Surprising find in this pretty Suffolk village. Dedham has all the necessary shops, carefully positioned in original buildings, no garish signage here and The Old Bakery Cafe is no exception. It’s a somewhat spacious and neat enterprise tucked away on a corner with plenty of free parking to be had close by An instant recognition and friendly greeting from the staff, and neatly spaced out tables held menus for breakfast / brunch, lunch and then our eyes were taken by a cabinet of cakes for those there later for tea. There is no shortage of choice at TOBC. We ate two imaginative and well put together brunch dishes of back bacon, halloumi, chilli jam on sourdough toast with a good sprig of salad leaves, beetroot and baby tomatoes which made a substantial and reasonably priced dish. Excellent coffee too The staff, the menu and the presentation suited us down to the ground. You’ve got it bang-on

WOULD BE GREAT IN THE SUMMER BUT NOT IDEAL FOR A WINTER SPA. the positive points: the house and grounds are stunning, well maintained to a very high standard. The staff are exceedingly attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the negative points: The check in is great and the lounge and fire are gorgeous, we were shown to our deluxe suite, which lived up to the expectations visually. However we were directed to the spa, which is a few hundred meters away from the main hotel. It was a freezing cold day and so we had to put coats and boots on and take all our swimming stuff across in a bag. Unfortunately we did not realise that all spa facilities are outside. Luckily it was not raining otherwise it would have been a total waste of time. We ran to the jacuzzi which was only warm, definitely not HOT, we managed to stay in there for 5 mins before trying the steam room, which is tiny, with 4 of us in there it was not possible to lie down and other guests had to wait as there was no room when they tried to join us. We went inside for our treatments and when we came out we tried to sit in the outdoor lounge, with fire, but even with the hot water bottles and blankets provided it was just to cold to enjoy this area. We return to our room at 5 PM, we noticed that it was very cold in the room as well. I turned each individual radiator up to the maximum. However, after an hour, the radiators were still just tepid, not even warm. We asked reception and they were exceedingly helpful and could see we were getting ready for our meal at Mason talbooth and would look at it when we went out. This meant we had to get ready feeling very cold. We also noticed at this point that we wished to blow dry our hair after washing it and discovered that there was not a dressing table with a mirror. Or at the bare minimum a plug point near a mirror, we had to blow dry our hair sitting on the floor with no reflection. I don't expect to be doing this in such a high-end establishment. We returned from our room after our meal and it was still cold. The receptionist explained that she had turned the boiler to the oil setting as the pellets did not seem to be working and this should solve the problem. Unfortunately as the room is so luxurious and large, the radiators were not sufficient to heat the room and all 3 of us had to sleep in thick pyjamas, socks and dressing gowns which was not conducive to a good night's sleep. Thankfully, this was not a romantic break as there would definitely have been no romance.!! So this place was great but we ere cold from the time we arrived until we left. I have emailed them 4 days ago, but have received no response

Excellent eating experience with a fabulous menu. The staff were welcoming and friendly. Came here for an anniversary dinner, all the staff took note and welcomed us and wished us a happy anniversary. Food was divine, and the chocolate delice was exceptional, I highly recommend.

This is welcome spot to refuel if you’re on the Constable walk. The service was prompt and friendly, the cafe was spotlessly clean and very pleasant to sit in, but sadly the food was pretty poor. A sweet potato and spinach slice was limp (possibly microwaved) and the salad although very fresh came with no trace nor offer of dressing. A little thought on how to improve the food would go a long way. I didn’t have any cake, but they did look really good.

The food was OK but some elements were poor and really should not have been served had anyone taken the care to check. They served a pork belly that was so tough that we couldn't cut it even with a steak knife. It had probably been pre-cooked and then warmed up. The service was very slow. We took 2.5 hours to get through 3 courses. The most common comment was "It isn't what it used to be."

Food was fantastic , all dishes , compliments to the chef! Staff were delightful too! The wine however is overpriced, when did two glasses of medium wine cost the same as a main dish ? Leaves a sour taste in your mouth even if the food was delicious !

This is the second time we have stayed here this year. We stayed in Butchers room which is just lovely. The bed is very comfortable & the pillows are amazing. We dined in the restaurant both times & the choice & quality of the food is great. Breakfast was very good, the offer continental as well as a fresh cooked selection. The bar area is nice with an open fire & cosy sofas. Plenty of parking. I can’t say enough good about this place. Well worth a visit if you like a relaxing break.

Great pub, good food. 4 friends ate here after golf. I had an excellent burger with bacon and cheese, one of my friends had the steak. Both were cooked really well and were very tasty. Can’t remember what the other 2 had but i know they loved it. Great service, the young lad that waited on us was friendly and efficient. The owner/boss was doing a sterling job operating as chef. Lots of beers, 3 real ales on draught to choose from. The wainwrights bitter was delicious. Price wise, typical pub prices, no problem there. Thanks very much to Sally and her team for looking after us so well.

Lovely staff, very polite and helpful, but wrong meal arrived, my husband had finished his by the time the correct meal arrived. The hot meal was served on a cold plate and the food was not thoroughly heated. Not an enjoyable meal or experience. We were offered 1 x complimentary drink to compensate. :(
