The best restaurants in Dedham and Langham Colchester East of England

An INCREDIBLE family run cafe definitely worth stopping off at. Food was delicious, service was impeccable. My biggest compliments to Phil, friendliest cafe server I’ve had for a very long time! He deserves a raise!

Booked a room to spend a night with my wife to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It was amazing, as soon as we arrived we were served welcome drinks, room was incredible. The attention to detail in the service really is like nothing I have experienced before. The spa facilities are tranquil, everywhere was spotless and the Christmas Dec's magical. Thank you for making it such a special night. We will definitely return.

Had lunch here and then came back for the evening BBQ summer event. The lunch and BBQ were very well done. The service at both were good. Having lunch by the river was nice.

Quite disappointed with the Sunday lunch. Roast beef consisted of a couple of slithers of the smallest pieces of beef I have ever seen. After taking off all the fat on it, it was only a few mouthfuls. Served with just a drizzle of what I would describe as a jus (not gravy). Extra jus was provided when we asked. Roast potatoes were chewy and must have been cooked in a strange way (not par boiled and roasted for example). Yorkshire had grapes on cocktail sticks wrapped in small pieces of the beef, which was odd. Service was slow at times. This place clearly trades on its location. It may be ok for a light lunch, but I wouldn't risk it again.

We visited a few weeks ago for a family meal and enjoyed our experience. The food was “fine” generally, but really the memorable experience was our server, Tom. Tom’s attitude towards my elderly mother was really lovely to see and he was warm with our young children. His sincerely friendly and charming nature shone through and really made our visit here special. This young man is a testament to the business and I hope he is rewarded accordingly. I suggest you ask for Tom to be your server next time you visit here!

This was a lovely pretty tea room overlooking the high street. The staff were friendly and pleasant. The lunch menu was very varied and the food we ordered was of a very good standard.

This is welcome spot to refuel if you’re on the Constable walk. The service was prompt and friendly, the cafe was spotlessly clean and very pleasant to sit in, but sadly the food was pretty poor. A sweet potato and spinach slice was limp (possibly microwaved) and the salad although very fresh came with no trace nor offer of dressing. A little thought on how to improve the food would go a long way. I didn’t have any cake, but they did look really good.

I had a lovely evening at The Crown with some friends, the atmosphere was very inviting. Kewan served us at the bar, he was very friendly and welcoming upon arrival and also for the entirety of our stay

Absolutely fantastic local pub, we have just moved to Dedham and this place is truly an absolute highlight of the village. Friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Kids and dogs made to feel welcome and still a proper 'pub' vibe for the grown-ups. Unpretentious menu, top quality food and excellent beers. We LOVE the Marlborough.

The pub has a warm, welcoming feel with a lovely atmosphere. The staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home from the moment we arrived. The food was excellent — proper homecooked meals, full of flavour and clearly made with care. It’s the kind of place where you can relax, enjoy good company, and have a great meal without any fuss.

So we arrived around 5pm tonight, one young lady at the bar - clearly under staffed but she done her best to cope. We then went through to the restaurant for a meal, the special was a lamb stew, you could see to the bottom of the dish like a concentrartion camp soup, seriously for £28! My burger arrived and was burnt on the oustise and luke warm in the middle, TBH Mcdonalds is better. Whilst eating the meal we we kept having to slap off the flies and its not even summer, I counted 11 on the beams over my head. Despite all this negativity the staff were very good. Less than impressed and well over priced for this poor meal.

Sadly this restaurant has really declined. It used to be somewhere we’d go frequently, but following a recent visit for a table of 5 adults and 4 children, we won’t be returning. We waited an hour for the food to arrive. It came out cold. The rib-eye steak we ordered as a medium was more than well done! The manager was rude, didn’t apologise or follow up when we told her. Service needs a huge improvement.

Excellent table service, cheerful and prompt. Food very tasty, ordered and cooked within 15 minutes. Good ambience, great views if outside, all m all a good stop for brunch, will be back. The counter food looked delicious !

Lovely staff, very polite and helpful, but wrong meal arrived, my husband had finished his by the time the correct meal arrived. The hot meal was served on a cold plate and the food was not thoroughly heated. Not an enjoyable meal or experience. We were offered 1 x complimentary drink to compensate. :(
