If you can get in after having to wait for the one out of 10 staff who is allowed to actually seat anyone, you will then be charged through the nose. £9 for 2 micro waffles and then an extra charge of £1 for syrup!!!!! And one teabag per 2 people’s tea that is the equivalent to dishwater but I was told it’s actually just specialty breakfast tea and my 15mins of letting it brew in my single cup of water wasn’t long enough! It’s run so ridiculously poorly it’s almost laughable- we watch a minimum of 3 decent groups of people leave because they just couldn’t get into the door of an empty restaurant!!!

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely lunch at The Boatyard for her birthday. It was just about warm enough to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful river views. The food was excellent, as it was on a previous visit for my birthday. I had the chicken burger and my wife had a brie and cranberry open sandwich. Service was friendly and efficient. We’ll be back!

Only popped in for a coffee ☕️ and a piece of cake. Although the food that was being served looked amazing, so will definitely be going back to try it. Service was excellent and nothing was to much trouble. Great views watching people on the rowing boats and paddle boards. Great day out would highly recommend it.

A lovely place to visit, especially if the weather is nice as you can sit outside and enjoy the river views. I recently visited for brunch and can recommend the eggs and avo on toast. I also bought some deli items to take home - delicious quiche and the cheesecake was lovely! The food is very tasty and great quality.

If you want to have a drink watching the shananagans going on on the river then great place, but food is poor, Greasy batter, uncooked fish, ceasar salad limp almost off lettuce, dry pre packed chicken with four croutons. At £17- 18 per meal would not recommend, wont be going back look at the other pubs in dedham much better food

Really disappointed and feel shameful to leave a review but I cannot be confrontational in person and just kind of suck it up at the time. Myself and my husband got 2 x chicken and waffles, an orange juice and a mimosa which came to just over £51! I asked for the potatoes that came with the chicken and waffles to be replaced with eggs and some fruit and got charged about £14 extra for the pleasure. The eggs were £1.75 each and they gave us 4, the fruit was about £3.50 and to change the breakfasts we were charged £4 too.... I'm not sure why the eggs couldn't just replace the potatoes and why we were charged a £4 'change up' fee for it either but it was a bit of a shock. This was not explained to me when I was making the order, nor was my receipt handed to me. It was only after awkwardly paying, I told my husband who went and retrieved the receipt from the girl at the counter. I stopped my husband from going back inside and saying something as I do get very anxious. The staff are so nice but I feel this is super steep for 2 breakfasts and 2 drinks, and on top of it all the chicken was so bland. Really disappointed and we shall not be returning. Such a shame as the scenery is beautiful and we enjoy the rowboats (although £25 an hour is ridiculous when it used to be £10!) but the food is a no. I have left a photo to show what just over £51 looks like.

Turned up to the restaurant and they said it will be a 30 min wait, which is fair enough as they were busy. So we walked along the river for a little bit and we came back 30mins later and they said they were fully booked. I then received a parking fine for being there 35 mins of £100 (£60 if you pay early). Staff didn’t really bother mentioning it at all and now we have to pay the fine without the help of the restaurant. So we left without trying their food/drinks and left with a parking fine.

Quite disappointed with the Sunday lunch. Roast beef consisted of a couple of slithers of the smallest pieces of beef I have ever seen. After taking off all the fat on it, it was only a few mouthfuls. Served with just a drizzle of what I would describe as a jus (not gravy). Extra jus was provided when we asked. Roast potatoes were chewy and must have been cooked in a strange way (not par boiled and roasted for example). Yorkshire had grapes on cocktail sticks wrapped in small pieces of the beef, which was odd. Service was slow at times. This place clearly trades on its location. It may be ok for a light lunch, but I wouldn't risk it again.

We were a group of 8 having breakfast there for the first time. Beautiful setting and service was good. However, our breakfasts were very disappointing. The Boatyard breakfasts were cold, we were given one mushroom each, the size of a 50 pence piece, 3 cherry tomatoes, baked beans served in an egg cup, the poached eggs were solid. The one slice of toast was really tough because it was cold. We won't be back.

I had the special lunch of Turkey sandwich. I wasn't told at the time of taking my order how much it would cost. It was more like a stuffing sandwich with very soggy salad inside. When I looked at my receipt at home it cost me £12.50 (for a sandwich). It was a joint payment with my daughters lunch so I didn't realise. I am so annoyed, I feel like I've been totally ripped off. Wanted to try this place because we heard that Sip and Tuck owners had taken it over. It felt familiar but different. Things we liked: at last, non watery poached eggs (we fell out over this once and we found their response somewhat arrogant and dismissive); beautifully presented delicious food and coffee and a lovely peaceful atmosphere. Things that could have been a little better: no sourdough; awful cups (heavy and clumsy) but I forgave this because it’s the best coffee I’ve had in Colchester for about a year.

As a note Veggie sausages come in all sorts of styles and these were like quorn one's ( I don't know exactly as I didn't ask) they were very nice. But be warned they have a spicy kick which might not be to your liking. Service was good and staff were quick to point out that your car registration was required if parking there. Presently it is 3 hours free parking. Also having a new puppy we were pleased we could sit inside as it was cool outside for sitting in our inappropriate clothes for the temperature. Beautiful scenery, but menu was very limited....mainly burgers and sandwiches, no healthy dishes. I tried chicken with waffles in maple syrup, but they didn't compliment each other at all. Business setting didn't work either...waiting for to be seated and then asked to queue at the counter to order your food was not pleasant. Instead of enjoying scenery you had to stand inside to get your order in. There was 9 people behind the counter and only one serving till. It took us good 10 minutes before we could order the food or drinks. Really disappointing experience. I would recommend business owners to rethink their business model as with so many staff you would expect much efficient service. Even a second till or having qr codes on the table to order your food would resolve the queuing problem.

The extremely hot weather early September boosted their trade, but overwhelmed their capabilities. Planned to eat in the restaurant, but the slow moving queue at the bar to order put us off. Purchased some snacks from the kiosk with the boat hire. Expensive and served by a grumbling lady who moaned that the queue was going the wrong way. Overflowing bins & uncleared tables. I can accept that they're overwhelmed during mini heat waves, but it's a licence to print money on that location, so some more preparedness (staff) would help. Purchased some drinks from the vendor pitched up opposite in the field as they were a fraction of the price, colder and quicker (friendlier!) service. It's hard to distinguish between the venue and the clientele.

Shocking visit. Burnt vegetable tart to be told it isn’t burnt it’s caramelised, I’ve never seen caramelised pastry before. Owners rude and clearly very stressed. The chef had walked out mid service apparently, owners words not mine. People queuing for very long periods of time to order food. Such a shame as it is in a lovely location

We were served by Tasmin who was wonderfully attentive and friendly. I have a gluten intolerance, and the food was excellent & my dietary requirements were treated with care. I had the gluten free eggs royale, and my boyfriend had the steak and chips. Our meals were perfect and the atmosphere was lovely.

Been here a few times for a relaxing drink, today we decided to go for a family breakfast. Something to note is my wife has allergies towards nuts and praprika, which is not always listed. I have to say going out for food can be challenging at tines, but out waitress Karen at the Swan was a absolute gem, Karen went above and beyond to ensure my wife was comfortable with what she was ordering and gonna be served. The whole experience was really well managed thanks to Karen. We really had a lovelly time and the food was great. Such a cosy place to eat. Swan owners need to look at their staff and really appreciate what hey do day in and out. Especially the ones that gonabove and beyond like Karen. Thanks again

Steer clear of the Burrito 🌯. My friends ordered an English breakfast that looked fab 👌. I unfortunately ordered disappointment in a wrap. A whole sausage, a rasher of bacon 🥓 and lump of possible microwaved egg concealed in something that was not a tortilla. Not a hint of spice, not even sauce. Dry, chewy, bland, tasteless. Call it reheated and wrapped because calling it a Burrito is am insult to Mexico 🇲🇽.
