Nice coffee shop, clean with friendly staff. On a housing estate

I ordered some sandwich platters for my husbands surprise 60th birthday party. They were delicious and there was so much. The homemade sausage rolls were gorgeous as well. Nothing was too much trouble. I would definatley recommend Coffee Hog for your party food. Excellent value for money. Thank you

We came on a warm sunny day in March around midday after a walk around Friday woods. The cafe is tucked away in a housing estate with a few other small businesses you wouldn’t know it was there. We ordered 4 coffees they came out in good time and tasted nice. Cheaper than your typical chain coffee shop. There is some parking outside but it’s limited. Seating is pretty limited but we managed to get a table outside.

Thank you for amazing lunch today. It made a difficult day a bit easier.

I visited this cafe for the first time on Thursday and it offers a relaxed ambience for customers to dine in! The play area dedicated to children is so innovative. I don't think I've been to a cafe here in Colchester that is accommodating towards children's needs. The food options are so lush as well! I ordered prawn marie rose jacket potatoes and pistachio white hot chocolate. The only improvement that could be made is offering soya milk as a dairy free alternative.

Another lovely lunch at coffee hog, the staff are so lovely always polite cheerful and always welcoming. Food as always is fresh, cooked lovely presented beautifully, and is always hot and tasty. We always feel welcome and the staff always seem happy to see us. The whole atmosphere is very welcoming.

Shambles! Called and booked and when arrived no tables. Then told was a table and then no. Ordered coffee to take away and watched them serve people before us! Shambles absolute nightmare. Also no idea what a flat white is, average latte at best. Avoid!

Dog friendly, nice place good food

We had our baby shower at Prettygate Coffee Hog and it was amazing. The venue is great, and the staff were so helpful and friendly, and would definitely recommend. A lovely atmosphere. Thank you!

Went for a lovely breakfast with my boo and our dog. Staff is super friendly, dogs get free biscuits, even customers were lovely too! Like a big family. Food was really nice. Lots of vegetarian options, beautiful, tasty sweets. Definitely will be back!

Expensive for a tiny cup of coffee and vinergary poached eggs on toast. 0830 and empty which says a lot about it. If going to charge a fortune then at least provide a decent ration to match a new mortgage. This is colchester....not Hoxton.

An establishment that offers various options, however l wasn't happy to be told that I had to leave due to a booking after being there for nearly two hours and even though there was other tables that was free. I will not go there again.

I bring my baby semi regularly to both branches of CH and we’re always made to feel welcome even when she’s crying or we’re making a mess! Food is freshly prepared abs portions are very generous, and it’s nice to have some baby food snacks available too. There’s a lovely play area for little ones and it’s breastfeeding friendly so always popular with mummies!

Food was great but service appalling at the pretty gate branch. Half the tables were empty but we were told we could only sit on the sofas to eat breakfast. 3 people in the party, I am 30 weeks pregnant and my partner is currently on crutches. So understandably tricky to lean and eat on a low down sofa.. Asked if we could use a table to eat which we were told no as they were booked which was fine - to the sofas it was. We were then asked to move to a 2 people high up table with stalls to eat for 3 of us when we were clearly mid convo sipping our coffees.. and they sat 2 young girls on the sofas instead! The high up table I couldn’t even reach the floor and being 30 weeks pregnant was not sturdy on a stall - my boyfriend on crutches had even more of a task. The entire time we were there none of the empty tables were used! Lady who asked us to move was very rude too. Will be sticking with the William Harris way shop in future and avoiding pretty gate at all costs!

Very rarely leave a review but visited today and it was excellent. Great food and coffee and the play are is such a great idea so my little ones were entertained. Lovely and clean and tidy too. We will be back!

Great little cafe for locals. I work in the area and regularly come here for lunch. I've had a few different things on the menu and always been great food. The breakfast in particular was amazing and well worth a stop off from work. Staff are always so friendly even when it's busy. Coffee is great too, the cafe is kept clean and there is parking right outside. Recommend this place to anyone passing or looking for a nice cafe.

Absolutely lovely cafe! Staff were all lovely n friendly, the options were on point! Plenty to chose from, drinks selection was good too. My O/H had the Nutella hot chocolate and O.M.G it was goooooood!! The photo is of the coffeehog pulled pork open sandwich with tatties, which, with some apple sauce (had to be requested) was BANGING! Solid 10/10 👏🏻👌🏻

very much overpriced for a back Street cafe nothing special the breakfast was basic one large and one half breakfast worked out the cost of purchased items by cafe could not have exceeded £3 for both plates frozen chips cheap, sausages to hard, bacon flat ordered toast got bread ! total cost with tea over £26 ! nothing exceptional at this cafe except the price !! my recommendation search round

I went here with my daughter, the place has a good feel about it. There was a small area for the little people to play and plenty of kids options on the menu. Some items were a little more expensive than others and whilst it was not cheap, it was reasonable in the most part. The young 'un decided on a cheese sandwich lunch which came with some crisps, a banana and a drink for five pounds. I went with the full english breakfast option which was thirteen pounds. The breakfast was very nice, although I ended up having to share it as the young 'un decided that it looked better than the sandwich! The only bit of feedback was that I had scrambled egg and it was a bit peppery. We finished our trip by buying some cakes to takeaway. They went perfectly at home with a beer in the evening!!

Such a lovely little place to grab a bite to eat and the Choices are great! The food is beautifully prepared and presented! We had the smashed avocado on toast, which was lovely! Lauren the manager was so sweet, such a happy smiley vibe and very professional! We can’t wait to come back :-)

Great food, really good customer service, I'd say possibly on the pricey side of things. The only thing that let my experience down was the fact that there were lots of chavs having a domestic just outside.

First time dining here with friends (they recommend) Safe to say, we will definitely be coming here again! Staff were great and food (breakfast) was amazing! Coffee superb too. Visited for the first time today and we are so impressed. The play area is a brilliant idea and kept the littles ones entertained whilst the food was prepared. The fried breakfast was delicious, great portions of quality food, was so tasty! We will definitely be back again.

Attentive staff who were able to accommodate my Aunt's wheel chair and who kept a table inside for us when it rained. Vegetarian dish was delicious as described by one of the guests. Open pulled pork sandwich was the next level of Deliciousness ! Great place to take little ones with an activity corner for them. Planning another trip soon to sample the array of cakes.

Best coffee place in town! Dog friendly, kid friendly, amazing food and drinks with specials and to top it all, the employees are extremely nice and excellent at their job! My favourite place to go during weekends!

Fab customer service. Chef came and asked if we wanted anything to replace what we didn't want on the breakfast. Chef also gave dairy free butter due to allergies. Drinks are really reasonably priced and food is always lovely. There is a play area for little ones, I'd say for under 3 year olds. Very nice atmosphere, clean and well maintained.

Had heard from friends how good it was so went with Hubby. He said he hadn’t had an English breakfast that good in a while and my eggs Benedict was cooked perfectly a lovely little place. Also orders their Easter box for the family. Very good sized portions of 4 treats. Plenty for our family of 3 to have a portion of each cake. Very good value for money.

Coffee was boiling hot and so milky I actually think they forgot to put some Coffee in

Went to Coffee hog for the first time today to try out their full English breakfast, I asked for fried eggs with my breakfast but when it turned up eggs were scrambled, so I told them straight away and they said they would change it and it would take 5 minutes, I thought that was quite a long time to cook a couple of fried eggs but when I received them I realised why because they were rock hard and completely burnt on the bottom!!!!! Not sure how they think this is acceptable to serve as I could smell how burnt they were before even turning them over! I definitely won't be back, very poor!!

Lovely sandwiches and great coffee

Stopped off for a full English around 11am on a weekday. The food was excellent, couldn’t fault the fry up, sausages and bacon were good quality, mushrooms fried in butter not oil, thick toast, fried eggs spot on. Service was friendly and quick. The only issue I had was it was packed with mums meeting each other and letting the kids run noisily around despite there being a dedicated play area, two toddlers came up to me while their mums chatted away oblivious and I witnessed two accidents, one of which was a sickening thud I’d head on floor. I appreciate that mums might be the target customer. Come here for the quality food, Just don’t expect a quiet relaxing ambience.

I’d seen the sign on the mini roundabout pointing in different directions in the past but never had time to look further, glad i did today. Had a quick ‘breakfast butty’ to takeaway which was delicious but the hash-brown (in or out???), that hot golden crispy triangular gatherer of all things nice on your palette was the best ever. Good job ppl. Thankfully this little gem is on the way home ;-)

Amazing little food find in Colchester! Second time of going and just as good as the first! Weve been to both locations and are so easy to get to aswell! The food portions are so big and such good value for money with a wide range of drinks. We found it was dog friendly too, which is brilliant as we haven't found many places are. The staff are so friendly, can't wait to take my family back here! Couldn't fault and would recommend for any type of lunch/brunch/cake get together!

As a tea drinker it's difficult to find a place to get a really good quality pot of tea. Everyone seems to cater for the coffee crowd so I was pleased to find that they have concidered the tea drinkers here and serve up a fantastic pot of tea. Well done, not only is the tea very good quality but it is served in a stunning glass pot with a jug of milk on the side and a large tea cup from which to enjoy it from. An experience that I am looking forward to indulging in again 😁

By far the best breakfast I have ever had and best jacket potatoes and besttttt of the best choclate milkshake. High recommendationnnn. Also the staff is super nice and friendly good customer service too

Lovely service Brilliant cup of coffee

Beautiful cafe, really enjoyed the biscuit decorating while we waited for our food (which wasn't long at all). (This is only available on special occasions, we did it for Halloween) Our meals were lovely and a healthy size! And came to under £10. There is also a small toy section here for small children to play while you relax. Very mum and child/baby friendly. Will definitely be returning.
