The Abbey Arms in Colchester

Went in their tonight for the first time... I have to say I felt very welcomed and people were so friendly saying hello and goodbye. I really enjoyed it...

If you were driving along the main road it would be easy to not notice the Abbey Arms, especially as the entrance faces the other way and I didn't see any classic pub signage hanging... Inside you will get served by friendly staff and have a large choice of drinks to choose from. There is a table to play at, and a large screen to watch the footy. I didn't think there was loads of seating inside, and to be fair if your having a quick pint, it probably doesn't matter. Whilst they have some benches outside, it is hard to ignore the busy road!

Really nice pub, great selection of drinks and knowledgeable staff. Seemed really popular with the locals but was very welcoming to strangers.

Good pub within striking distance of town. Pool table, darts and multiple TVs showing sports. Good selection of ales. USB charging ports on the Guinness pump is a nice idea. Comfortable seating and plenty of tables. Clean and fresh.

Great atmosphere, bar staff are friendly and make you feel welcome the moment you walk, great place to meet friends, play pool and unwind anyway of the week.

Great large and beer. Also one of the only places that really have a great choice for females that dont want beer and actually want a decent choice of drinks. More gin, rum, vodka and wine choices that you can shake a stick at. 4 different screens to watch sports on and staff are great!

What a brilliant pub! We went in to watch the football - within minutes the big screen was down! Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff - we were even allowed to order a just eat to the pub whilst there!

Good as a "sports bar". Plenty of big screens, and decent lager/ IPA's, but the ale was in such bad condition we had to give up on it. Was hoping for a bit better.

This is the closest pub to where I live and it has a good selection of local and standard beers. The place is very clean and the people are very friendly. Super cool beers are available and all major sports events should be on when you need them.

Best local in Colchester friendly staff nice decor toilets refurbished and smell clean no carling but plenty of other beers to enjoy and its got the footie with sky and BT what more can you ask for!

Used to be my local for years, real old fashioned pub. It's had a modern makeover, and is more of a sports bar now. Still and ok little pub though. Decent beer selection.

Shitiest pub in colchester. Racists. Had an ID from Greece and they tuneed around and said that only English and Tai people are allowed to buy drinks.doesn't even deserve one start

This used to be a very popular pub in the past. its less busy now but still very good and well worth a visit, its very close to town.

Nuestras esperanzas no eran altos cuando entramos en lo que es un dingey, pub antiguo y con olor a rancio, pero nos quedamos con hambre y necesario para conseguir ir, así que nos quedamos. Todas las comidas son en la pizarra para escribir y todo cuesta 5,95 libras, así que supongo que tienes que coger lo que viene. Para ser justos mis huevos, patatas fritas y jamón no estaban mal, especialmente en los huevos y patatas, pero el jamón que esperaba era la parrilla/asado y troceados, pero me dieron 5 rodajas de enrollar carne fría en el supermercado. Mi compañero de trabajo ordenados tiras crujientes de pollo. Lo que me dieron fue una hamburguesa de pollo congelada, fritos y cortados en trozos. Dijo que estaba realmente horrible. Mi pinta de cola no era una pinta - media en el mejor de los casos, pero era barato y nos pudimos ir en dos juegos completos de piscina y una larga conversación antes por fin llegó la comida. El camarero y barman/cocinar era bastante amable. Si la escena local pub es suya, quizás sólo como este lugar.

Had a Sunday roast at this pub & was excellent. Tasted home made. Carol, the landlady, very polite & helpful as are the barstaff. Weekday meals also very good. Worth having a meal with your pint.

We were unanimous with my mates - best pub in England. Not pricey, food was great (large portions too!) and, most importantly - great service. The landlady was extremelly nice, let us bring our bikes in, so they don't get stolen, plus she gave us some free bread when she heard we cycled there from London. Strongly recommended.
