Lovely staff, very polite and helpful, but wrong meal arrived, my husband had finished his by the time the correct meal arrived. The hot meal was served on a cold plate and the food was not thoroughly heated. Not an enjoyable meal or experience. We were offered 1 x complimentary drink to compensate. :(

I stay at the hotel frequently but never ate here because they had no vegan food. New menu has 2 hot vegan mains, a salad and a burger. The vegan starters are hummus or falafel so I didn’t bother. Neither of the hot mains were available so I went with the burger. The meat burger came with a free beer, but not the vegan one. So in effect it’s £4 more. When it finally arrived after quite a long wait it was truly uninspired. It was small pathetic looking sat on a plate with just a small basket of fries. The slaw mentioned on the menu was no where to be seen. The bun was hard, there was no sauce (meant to have red onion chutney) the square slice of vegan cheese hung over the burger it was that so small. The burger was a fried bean burger of the type you’d get four for a pound at the frozen section of a supermarket. The fries were ok, they were skin, well seasoned on but not crisp. No vegan mayonnaise, no BBQ sauce (or they forgot to bring it). For £10.50 I expect in 2019 to have a decent vegan burger, with some sauce and some fries. Not what appears to be a cheap frozen bean burger with a slice of cheese from a packet in a hard bun with no sauce. Luckily I wasn’t in the mood for a desert, as they don’t have any vegan desserts. Really disappointed

Afternoon Tea Advised of severe nut allergy at point of booking. Served coffee and walnut cake !!! Waiter took it away and said its only touching a couple of other slices. Brought back 2 plates, one with the coffee & walnut cake and another without and proceeded to place both back on the table ! Severe nut allergy means severe nut allergy !!! Cakes were shop bought and not fresh, one small scone each, brown bread sandwiches stale. The pot of tea was lovely and the highlight

Great food, however I’ve been here a few times now and the staff are so rude in comparison to the staff in the store. Such a shame because the food is really good especially the kids summer food deal.

Possibly the worst café on the planet, maybe even this galaxy, drinks that never arrived, food that took so long to arrive that I saw young boys grow into long trousers and staff that make it so obvious that they do not want to be there I’m surprised they don’t put up as sign advertising that customers will seriously inconvenience them. If you are expecting service, courtesy and food, do not go to the Sainsbury’s café at Tollgate.
