Just had the most delicious lunch. We had steak and ale pie, fish and chips followed by fudge brownie and blackberry/apple crumble. Staff all friendly, clean and tidy and great value. My only gripe is having dogs walking past as I’m eating indoors, I’ve never agreed with dogs in a restaurant especially if they’re halfway through a walk and been near other animals and what other animals leave behind. Not against dogs in a pub just not where people are eating. Other than that we had a great time.

Stopped in for a tea, coffee and scone for the first time this weekend as we happened to drive past. It was all lovely and reasonably priced. However it is disappointing that a venue in such a prime countryside location doesn’t at least allow dogs inside somewhere. I imagine their foot traffic would increase substantially if dog walkers could come in for a post/pre walk refreshment.

Since our local cafe Harpers closed at Pepperstock, we've missed having somewhere to drop in for coffee or a light lunch. Right on cue, The Woodyard, just off the A1081 on the Luton Hoo Estate, is filling the gap. It's an attractively converted workshop, all timber framed and tastefully furnished. Under the new management of Viv and her team, it's bubbling with enthusiasm and great food. My scrambled egg on toast was delicious and the £6-95 price tag seemed very reasonable. I'll be back!

Friend called in to book table for following evening as phone number appeared not to connect. Arranged for 6 pm the following evening. Arrived just before 6, gate to car park shut. Drove around waiting until just after 6, gate still closed, attended a third time around 6.30, gate still closed. Nowhere to park given location and busy junction so we gave up. Shame, their loss!
