Visited with my husband, 2 children (8&5yrs) and small elderly dog. I had looked ahead to check it was dog-friendly and was pleased when we arrived that yes, well behaved dogs are welcomed. The service was polite and prompt for the most part. The food was very nice and reasonable on price. I was pleasantly surprised that the chicken nuggets were proper chicken breast. My hubby was very happy with his burger. My fish was nice, the batter was quite oily rather than crisp as I prefer but not something to complain about. Had there been less of a delay in taking our clear plates we may have stated for desert but paid & left before anyone came to ask about desert. Normally wouldn't mention this but they weren't especially busy so this stood out in an otherwise very good visit, hence 4 instead of 5 rating. Overall we enjoyed it and would return, and indeed have already recommended to a friend.

I've known of this pub for over 30 years but never visited due to relocating elsewhere so whilst in the area again decided to pop in for Sunday lunch then pub and restaurant were fully booked but the landlord kindly let us have a table due to a cancellation the roast beef was very generous and tasty and freshly cooked it was a pleasure to be in a beautiful real traditional pub and a real landlord the pub was clean and has a beer garden as well the toilets are stunning so much effort is made in this pub thank you for an amazing lunch

Loverly country pub and the room we stayed in was good value for money and breakfast included. Ideal for last minute stay drinks where a bit pricey and no Guinness left.

To make it clear this pub has been taken over by new management since November 2024 so some of the reviews are old and no reflective of the new management. We stayed here for one night whilst visiting Stamford/Rutland. On arrival we were given our key to room 7 a twin bedded room. The lights in the bathroom were flickering and one bulb gad gone. In the bedroom there was two blinds one that was a blackout blind was broken no chain to pull it up. We returned to the reception to let them know and they kindly moved us to another room. The room was clean however it was extremely hot and we had no way of regulating the temperature. The radiator was actually on! The walls are very thin you could literally hear everything from the next room. The chair in our room was falling to bits. The carpet was stained and look like it had seen better days. Needs a revamp. We ate at the pub and unfortunately our food was not good. The onion bhajis were dry, over cooked and no flavour. The vegetable samosa had nothing inside it just pastry and tasteless. The chilli chicken pieces were so small that they were over cooked and chicken was hard and dry. A very disappointing meal. Had a reasonable selection of beers, lager and wines. Met a few of the locals from the village who were very friendly. Breakfast was a complete shambles. Breakfast is from 8am to 9.30am (Sunday) we arrived just before 9am and it was not very busy around 6 other guests seated. Have to help yourself to tea, coffee and juice. Only one type of milk full fat no other choices. Coffee was filtered and was very weak and not pleasant. You had to have a cheap white mug no choice of a cup & saucer (they had cup & saucer in the rooms). We ordered our full English breakfast and waited an hour! When it eventually arrived mine was cold and my Husband’s was like warm. The quality of the produce was poor. Sausage was a cheap catering sausage the scrambled egg was not cooked through. The baked beans were inedible due to being cold. All in all a bad experience and very disappointed. They were either struggling with staff in the kitchen or just not able to cope. The staff we engaged with were polite but feel their hospitality skills need to be reviewed.
