We have always enjoyed our stays with you, this being our 4th visit, but our experience on this occasion was certainly not as expected or as our previous dining experience. Our room was lovely, the breakfast very good, but our evening meal was poor at best! We both ordered Plaice and at £22.00 each our expectations were high! The plaice arrived it was very small the skin did not come off and it was not fresh, this was accompanied by a bowl of boiled new pots in their skin, a chopped up tomato and three very overcooked green beans. We voiced our concerns to our lovely waitress, who said she would pass on our views, no apologies though. We then decided to share a desert, chocolate cake, whilst it tasted OK, presentation reminded me of school dinners and priced at £10.00 it again did not meet our expectations. It was very busy on Friday with a very large loud table in the dining room. We were moved into the bar by a really lovely member of staff So in conclusion - lovely attentive staff, lovely pub, lovely room and breakfast. I did email directly but did not get a response

We stayed here, hare room, on two separate occasions over the last week after meeting friends in the location. Room although compact was perfectly adequate for our stay, clean, comfortable, bed and bedding,tv, tea and coffee, water, fan and a decent shower Bathroom is also compact so I'd recommend larger folks booking a bigger room. We didn't stay over a weekend so don't know how noisy it would be then however over a Sunday, Monday and Tuesday night it was peaceful and quiet. Only sounds at night were the church bells. Pub food was lovely, the £5 Sunday and Monday meals were a steal, breakfast good also. Have to commend all the staff, bar staff, restaurant staff and breakfast lady, all went out of their way to chat, engage and make our stay great. It's a proper pub with rooms done well.

We came for lunch with no expectations and were very pleased with the interesting menu and great service. Finding a balance between over familiar and standoffish can be tricky, but it was perfect. The food was fresh, tasty and inventive. We’ll be back.

Beautiful location and a beautiful building. Staff were very personable, friendly and attentive. However, we came with two dogs and were charged £20 per dog with nothing to show for it. Usually in ‘dog friendly’ hotels/B&Bs, we are welcomed with dog bowls, blankets, dog treats and on occasions, brand new dog toys in the rooms we have been allocated. However, there was nothing in the room provided for our dogs. There was not even a dog bowl until we had to ask for one at the bar which was a small plastic bowl. The room we stayed in was very small and incredibly hot and due to being on the ground floor, we couldn’t keep the window open at night time due to safety reasons. The remote control did not work for the television and the small fan provided in the room blew hot air, not cold; the hairdryer and USB sockets next to the bed also didn’t work. If you do stay with dogs, you’ll have to drive to alternative locations for off lead walks as surrounding fields are private and land is council owned whereby signs state dogs are not allowed. I’m not sure we’d stay here again as unfortunately, it seems to be more of a money making establishment.

Lovely friendly, buzzy pub! We chose to sit in the garden which was surrounded by herbs and veg. Menu was a mix of traditional Sunday plus specials. Everything was delicious and service was attentive. We left enough room for pudding too! Good value at apx £30 per head for 3courses and the dog was welcome too. Excellent

We have just spent 3 nights at this delightful pub, while visiting the surrounding area. We had requested a garden room for mobility reasons, it was a small quirky room but had all we needed. The main highlights for us were the very friendly staff from our greeting on arrival to the restaurant/pub/breakfast staff. And the excellent food, the meal we had in the restaurant was well cooked and very good sized portions. Breakfasts were great, again good portion sizes. It is a village pub with rooms and definitely worth a visit. It was lovely to hear the church bells on Sunday too.

Parked the bikes on a rainy lunchtime and on entering the pub received a warm welcome from Joe. Enjoyed a superb and very reasonably priced lunch with a nice pint. The service was excellent, the food perfect and the pub is a really nice place. Totally recommend it.

Stopped over for 4 nights at the end of May, beautiful village off the beaten track and very lovely 17th century pub. Nice courtyard garden which we were able to have a few drinks in when we arrived. Friendly and welcoming on arrival and throughout. Slightly disappointed with our room 'Sheep' as was very tiny and not like the description of king room. No place to store bags, no chairs to relax on if weather bad, and no room to move around one side/end of the bed. Would suggest not a room for more than one or two nights stay at most. However, did look in one of the other rooms and much larger. Food was fine, and supper club on Monday where one dish was £5 was good value for money. Overall, it was a good location for us to explore Rutland and area which we had not been to before.

We stopped here to break our journey to Whitley Bay and what a fab time we had. We stayed in the Cow Room which had everything needed and more. Lovely comfy bed with many cushions and pillows. The food was amazing - we had the 3 course Sunday lunch - the white onion and thyme soup was delicious as was the roast beef, but the Eton Mess was outstanding. We went back for Supper Club which was yummy and the breakfast in the morning was just the perfect start to the day. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. There was a welcoming atmosphere and everyone was very friendly. 5 stars and then some

Just had a delightful experience at George and the Dragon and felt compelled to share! Located in a picturesque little village, this quaint pub exudes charm from the moment you arrive. One of the first things that struck me was the excellent parking availability, which is always a plus. However, it would be even better if they had a car charger for electric vehicles. Once inside, the cozy atmosphere immediately made me feel at home. The staff were friendly and attentive, providing excellent service throughout my visit. Now, onto the highlight: the food! Oh my, the food was simply fantastic. I opted for the venison, and it was a real standout. Cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor, it surpassed all expectations. Overall, George and the Dragon exceeded my expectations in every way. If you find yourself in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by for a meal—you won't be disappointed!

The food could not have been better. Perfectly cooked rare beef, with a good variety of tasty veg, and perfect roasties, sandwiched between an exceptional pate starter, and a divine panacotta to finish. One night stay on a longer journey. The pub was recommended by our daughter who raved about it when they stayed on their way to watch Leicester Tigers. Everyone including the lively locals were extremely friendly. We had a little village walk in the evening gloom and returned to a roaring wood burner. Lovely!! Our room (Stag) was clean, well presented, had a double aspect view plus everything that was needed. Evening meal was , as predicted, absolutely first class Staters of prawns plus a seafood thermidor. Both excellent, the thermidor, particularly so! Both mains were very locally sourced venison. Superbly cooked and top drawer. Fantastic! Overall, an excellent value room including many variations of cooked to order breakfast. Couldn’t fault it. Thank you!!

We booked dinner with friends online over 3 weeks ago. Today, with just over 1 week to go, we received a call to cancel our booking. We booked this pub for an overnight stay following a family party in Barrowden. The pub is pretty small with a restaurant side and a pub side. All the staff were really friendly (as were the locals!). The food was really tasty!!! We definitely would return for another meal The room was quite small and the bed was a bit short for hubby (he’s 6’2) but I found it super comfortable and slept well. They pack in a bathroom into the space which worked fine for me (hubby found the loo space a bit small). The pub downstairs wasn’t particularly noisy when we went to bed. Breakfast was great. Definitely would recommend as an alternative to the hotels in the area that are mostly over £200….. this place has a special charm that makes a stay enjoyable.

This year, we've eaten here twice and have always been very complimentary. This time we were unfortunately very disappointed. My daughter was with us for the weekend and we were looking forward to a great meal. I'd already told her what a great place it is and how good the food is...I left feeling very embarrased. We all had a starter, main and a cheeseboard to finish. The cheeseboard was very good, but you can't really screw up a cheeseboard, can you?!The starters very underwhelming. My partner and daughter each had the scallops...it sounded so nice. 2 tiny scallops on a cm thick piece of black pudding on a bed of mushy peas, served in a bowl, was fairly grim, and my souffle clearly hadn't risen as expected. It had been tipped out onto a plate then seared under the grill until bubbling...it looked horrific but actually tasted great! For her main, my partner had steak and fries. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious, as were the fries. My daughter had the duck with creamed leeks, rosti potato & blackberry jus. The duck was not well seasoned and pretty bland...and everything was served in a bowl, so the leek, rosti and jus turned into a soup. Not good.I had swordfish with sauteed potatoes and creamed samphire. The potatoes were nice. The samphire was awful, woody and tasteless. The swordfish was tiny (about 6cm across) and thinly sliced but it was nicely cooked. The biggest problem was this was also served in a bowl, so everything quickly turned to mush in the bottom!Perhaps chef was having a bad day...out of the 3 meals we've had here, 1 has been a car crash.

Following recommendations from friends, we decided to try it and we were not disappointed! There is a comprehensive, reasonably priced wine list, as well some fantastic, well-kept, locally brewed beers including the wonderful “1050”.The staff were attentive and observant, without being pushy.Refreshingly, there is not a vast variety of food on offer; what there is beautifully cooked and well presented. Our first course was salmon tian. It looked to be too much for a starter but it was surprisingly light, and delicious with capers running through it. A couple of pieces of lightly-toasted bread on the side was the perfect accompaniment.Mains were steak & chips, and sea bream with pak choi. The steak was cooked perfectly and just melted in the mouth, and although there was a lot of them, the chips were nicely cooked. The bream was outstanding. It came with pak choi, straw potatoes and a delicious pepper and butter sauce. The whole was sublime. My only criticism is that it was served in a bowl. This made cutting the veg a little awkward, and meant everything was pooled together in the sauce, but given the choice of no bream or bream in a bowl, I’ll take the latter!Pud was cheese and biscuits; I was initially underwhelmed but the homemade chutney brought it all together. Yummy, give me more!We will certainly be back, and soon!

Well, we got all of that at The George & Dragon with the added bonus of warm, friendly helpful hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Everything we wanted from the day we got in spades. So much so that it actually felt like that fate had meant us to be there on Oct 24th, rather than getting married. It and they turned a potentially tough weekend into wonderful one. Our squid starters were well-portioned and beautifully plated. I had a salmon nicoise salad, which was a great size and came with deliciously-roasted new potatoes. My partner's chicken with bacon and mushroom tagliatelle was gorgeous. The only slight dampener was my chocolate brownie was cold-although tasty, it would have been better warm. The Eton mess was great however. A lovely evening with friendly service

booked The George and Dragon in Seaton for 2 nights as we wanted to explore Rutland Water. On arrival we got upgraded to a bigger room, staff were incredible, very friendly, couldn't do enough for us. Room was lovely and well serviced. Pub garden was well set out and had heaters under cover for part of it. Good selection of wines and beers. Breakfast was lovely, clearly quality ingredients used. Fresh coffee. Basically allowed to come and go as we pleased. All covid-19 safety advice followed, loved the personalised face masks! Eat out to help out menu Mon-Weds was spot on. Squid and salmon both perfectly cooked, huge pork chop with veg. Again, the staff cannot do enough for you. Beautiful food, good value for money. If you are looking for the perfect retreat you would do well to stay here.

Just had such a lovely experience having dinner here with a friend. A warm welcome and really pleasant staff. A lovely three course meal & a nice pink gin on the side with fever tree. Perfect. We sat in the beautiful terraced area out back which was so relaxing. Love that I’m 5 mins drive away & look forward to returning soon x

We had a table of 2 booked for a special anniversary. Unfortunately with the announcement of pubs/restaurants being closed, we were unable to attend . Ralph suggested he now does takeaways and the food turned up steaming hot with a lovely bottle of chotes du Rhône. The food was delicious and this type of approach is why we will be returning once this blows over.

Lovely country pub. Had a mid week overnight stay which was good value for money. All staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our room was fine, clean and warm. The only slight niggle was the small en suite could really do with some hooks/ shelf, there was no where to hang anything or to put your bits and bobs down.Evening meal and breakfast was lovely, we ate in the bar which was a very cosy and welcoming space with leather armchairs and wood burning stove. Can highly recommend.

Visited again with friends for a Saturday dinner. Received a good welcome and given a nice table. While the menu has a limited choice, the food was good and tasty. Only issue was that the service was patchy: slow in parts and didn't really meet the standard of the food. Whilst the beer was in excellent condition for the meal, they'd run out coffee afterwards...

Having decided that the food at the White Hart in Lyddington was virtually uneatable our group of 8 came here for our last evening and realised what we had been missing. Excellent food, beautifully presented, extremely tasty and friendly and efficient service. If you're anywhere near you should dine here.

Sunday lunch was tasty but brocolli and cauliflower cheese only just warm. Asked for it to be heated up and came back hot but a little burned and dark brown crispy brocolli is not that appertising. Dessert of almond and plum tart was horrible tasted and smelled of chip pan oil and was just warm along with Luke warm creme anglaise. Couldn’t eat it and no apology and was not deducted from bill. Asked for wine list 3 times, water requested and asked for 3 times.

Stayed here overnight after attending a family function in Kings Cliffe.Very impressed with the"Stag" room.Decent size with large double bed and double aspect.Spotlessly clean with decent size towels and good quality toiletries.Bed very comfortable, with nice thick duvet although pillows a little soft(personal preference).En-suite compact but functional.Again spotlessly clean with a decent power shower.Nice size TV and a full length mirror which is always handy apparently.Could have done with more wardrobe space and room to put own toiletries in bathroom.Had a good nights sleep, with surprisingly minimal road noise especially as the room was overlooking a main road.Had an evening meal in the small bar part of the pub..there is also a very nice dining area as well. The bar was very cosy and comfortable and service was excellent. The food was very good if a little pricey..haddock and chips £15..although they were thick cut chips with lovely thick tartare sauce, mint pea puree and a lovely light batter on the fish. The bar was well stocked and all staff were really friendly and welcoming. The full English Breakfast in the morning was again very nice with good quality produce being used.Little disappointed there was no fresh orange juice..only Britvic mixers, and they ran out of those. All in all an excellent relaxing stay in a very nice pub and excellent value for money.Just what the doctor ordered after a very, very long drive and a challenging day. If you get the chance, walk down the slight hill by the church opposite. There is a public footpath that leads to breathtaking views of the Viaduct and surrounding countryside.

Our first visit and definitely not our last as it’s only 15 minutes from where we live. We had a really enjoyable time overall firstly with a couple of drinks in the afternoon in the garden. We then checked into our room, showered and changed for dinner. The food was as good as anything I’ve had with a sharing baked Camembert to start, I followed with pan fried sea bream and my wife with lamb. We then shared a pavlova. All washed down with a beautiful bottle of rosé which we finished off on a warm evening back in the garden before eventually retiring back to the room. We were in the Hare room which was really nice and comfortable. The next morning we had a lovely cooked breakfast before checking out. Absolutely recommend it. Great pub, staff, food, room, garden. Thanks Ralph and team.

A favourite pub stop coming home from work forty years ago, the George & Dragon is still recognizable, but now has three comfortable rooms above the pub/restaurant. Comfortable beds and a good meal. Recommended for those who don't want to stay in a town, but enjoy a Rutland village pub.

I visited The George and Dragon and had a 3 course lunch here. I was lucky enough to have won this as a prize at my local fete. The food here is in my opinion worthy of a Michelin star. Every course was delicious. I had a starter which consisted of crayfish in an amazing sauce with salad and the best toasted bread that I have ever tasted. I had the swordfish steak as a main and every aspect of this dish was really tasty. For desert I had the chocolate tart with cherry sauce and chocolate ice cream which was total chocolate heaven. The staff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere although just a Saturday lunchtime was good. The pub itself is very charming and I loved the art work which was displayed throughout. There is also a wonderful garden which has it's own bar outside. I will definitely be going back as we live quite local and will take our many visitors to this really wonderful jewel of a pub and restaurant.

The drinks were fine, but overall the food was disappointing. Overpriced for what it is, pork was dry and bland, risotto wasn’t as described and tasted like grass, chef refused to make a new meal until he was asked to come out and then quickly decided he would make the meal we asked for... waiters were lovely and helpful and the atmosphere was lovely but the table was really wobbly. No doubt whoever reads this in the pub will just put it down to a one-off but honestly this Restuarant has serious potential but the chef really isn’t doing it justice.

What a find! A lovely village pub in a beautiful village. The atmosphere was really warm and welcoming, and the young people who served us food and behind the bar were cheerful and friendly. Dogs are welcome anywhere except the restaurant.

These guys deserve to succeed. Small menu but original and freshly done: you know when it says pesto that doesn't mean out of a jar from sainsburys. Intimate pub setting with original touches. Book online rather than trying to get them to pick up the phone.

We have just had a Sunday roast and it was fantastic.. we have been all over locally for a good Sunday roast and always seem disappointed. Lovely staff, amazing food! Really couldn’t recommend more highly. Friends have eaten in the week and the lunch time menu is also very good. We will be back next weekend!

What an absolutely gorgeous 3 course Sunday lunch. Cannot fault the food, service and atmosphere. The “Pork& Chorizo” Scotch Egg starter was delicious as were the Scallops my wife had. For main I tucked into one of the best Roast Pork I have ever tasted! For puds there was in my opinion only one item on the menu to pick … Caramelised Apple Crumble with custard … yum yum! Cannot recommend The Old Pheasant enough now it’s under new ownership … big round of applause to Damon and Chef Robert.

We called in for lunch after completing an event at Rutland Water. The menu was limited, but offered some interesting choices. Unfortunately, the food did not fulfil our expectations and porportion sizes were small meaning my partner and son left hungry. Therefore an expensive meal. The service was adequate, but not overly friendly. Sadly, we will not be returning, despite the great location.

Excellent food and service. Friendly. Dogs allowed in bar and garden. Not a place for a quick meal but the wait is worth it.
