Excellent food and service. Friendly. Dogs allowed in bar and garden. Not a place for a quick meal but the wait is worth it.

Another fantastic lunch at The Wheatsheaf today. All of our starters and main courses had clearly been carefully planned by the chef and were perfectly cooked and presented. A special mention is needed for the steamed Fowey mussels that were as fresh as you would find at a West Country harbourside restaurant. The service was impeccable as ever.

Stunning building, but I don’t know why they call themselves dog friendly… there was nothing friendly about them. Me and my sister came with our dog and who I assume was the manager behind the bar instantly looked annoyed and unapproachable which made us want to leave but we felt to awkward too. What I gather is 1) they are not dog friendly 2) they make the most effort with the locals.

Another fabulous night with excellent food drinks and service. The homemade bread and flavoured butter served alongside balsamic vinegar and olive oil a delicious start to our gastronomic experience. I had a lovely pear blue cheese and pecan salad and my husband made fresh oysters both terrific. I had the Cornish cod as main course which was absolutely delicious. I can’t recommend this place enough one of the best places I’ve ever visited and eaten in. Please book well in advance as it’s extremely popular.

Me and my boyfriend went in on a whim because we got turned away at another pub and we were so glad they had a table for us. The weather was lovely, so we sat outside and had a few pints and one of their open sandwiches. Both the ladies behind the bar and the gentleman that came out to serve us were lovely and made us feel very accommodating. Will definitely return in the future

Once again an amazing meal. We were treated by a friend who is a regular for our wedding anniversary and arrived to find a lovely card on our table congratulating us on our wedding anniversary from Scott, Carol and the team which was unexpected and made our day. As it was a Sunday we had the roast beef for me and the crispy belly pork for Nick. They were both delicious and the Yorkshire pudding! Wow is all I can say. It was enormous. The veg were tasty and cooked perfectly and the roast potatoes were something else. I pride myself on making good roasties but these were on another scale! As we had both had the delicious home made bread and starters, sadly we couldn’t manage a dessert although they all looked lovely and we were tempted to try. 😉. The service from everyone was impeccable and we really enjoyed our meal. Big call out to Scott whose attention to detail and service is outstanding. The whole team are what makes this place so good. We have been a few times over the years and have never had a bad experience here. I only wish we were more organised and could remember to book ahead as this place is so popular. 10/10 for food and service. Thank you for a lovely meal.

Scott and his staff at the Wheatsheaf are welcoming, highly attentive, they work with professional and with charm. The daily changing menu is interesting, inventive, and created by a chef with both expertise and presentation style. A varied wine list is sensibly priced and should satisfy most tastes - with a selection available by the glass and carafe – complemented by well-kept beers and lagers. We thought that this was a ‘find’ for us which, judging by the number of patrons, was a shared opinion.

Just called in for a coffee after a walk. The coffees were small but very tasty, just after we arrived we saw food being served to another table in the bar and it looked amazing, this was confirmed by all four plates being cleared by the customers. We asked to see a menu explaining that we had just eaten so unfortunately wouldn't be eating, no problem said the landlord. Prices were not extortionate and we will definitely eat there next time. Lots of pleasant staff and the place was large, spacious and clean. Dogs are welcome. Large car park at the rear and the entrance looked easy access for wheelchairs

Sad - this used to be a nice friendly pub. Called in for a drink, we were on our way to a BBQ so didn’t want anything to eat. There was a menu on the side so we were looking at it whilst waiting for our drinks to be poured We thought that we may return another day for something to eat. The barmaid returned with our drinks and asked: “Have you booked?” We replied “No”. She snatched the menu away and told us they were fully booked and the menu was only left there for someone else to order that had booked. We didn’t know if that meant we shouldn’t stay to have a drink too but she gave us those and charged us. So we sheepisly grabbed a table outside, necked our drinks and went to the Plough up the road that was such a better pub, really nice and friendly service. Lots of customers were ordering food at the Plough from a pizza man in the garden and we heard from locals that the previous night - an Argentina meat night - was fantastic. Good they served a different style of food each evening. Lovely friendly pub with great selection of drinks too.

Excellent country pub with great quality food. Our party tried the pate, camembert, steak tartare, terrine and cod cheeks starters. All were superb - well presented and delicious. For mains we had tiger prawns, duck breast, pork belly and steak. Again a good selection of the menu and not a single "miss" - everything was delicious. Good selection of ales and wines (I had a light vinho verde which was lovely). It's been a pleasure every time to visit the Wheatsheaf on many occasions over the years since my parents moved into the area, and where I also now live. The staff have always been very welcoming and attentive, and Scott and Carol have worked hard to earn a well deserved reputation for fabulous food, an awesome selection of wines, wholesome beers, and friendly hospitality in the region. I think I have tried most dishes on the menu and never been disappointed. It's hard to pick a favourite, but if you're undecided my dad invariably chooses the pork belly when it's on, and mum loves the panna cotta. It's well worth asking Scott for wine recommendations to go with your meal if you're not the designated driver, his knowledge is remarkable, although I prefer a pint of beer. Beautiful pub, gorgeous food and drink, and wonderful people. Highly recommended.

On a side note, it’s a stroke of genius to set the tables for the number of diners ie remove unnecessary chairs - 2 diners = 2 chairs, 3 diners = 3 etc Overall we’d highly recommend and will return soon to try the mid week menu which looked s amazing PS - they also gave a birthday card & candle on his dessert without me requesting

Warm welcome, fantastic service, delicious food and good value! We booked a table for 7 for a Saturday lunch in mid December. This was a family gathering/get together for a birthday celebration and included those from ages 3-70. We were warmly welcomed and shown to our table - a birthday card from the wheatshef team was a nice touch. Drinks were ordered and menus reviewed - great choices and everyone was able to find something they liked. They had a lovely fresh homemade children’s menu also. Starters ordered included Oysters (beautifully fresh) Baked Camembert Smoked salmon with sweetcorn pancakes Potted crayfish Steamed mussels All were absolutely delicious The bread was fantastic and served with seaweed butter. Mains included roast duck breast with a berry sauce, tiger prawns, roast pork belly, bavette steak. Food was lovely, generous portions and the pork crackling was out of this world. The only slight improvement was the bavette steak here was cut somewhat thickly so had a touch more chew than in past experience . A well curate wine list was offered and it’s great to see carafe as well as full bottles on offer - we enjoyed a delicious Plantagenet Lancaster shiraz carafe for £25.60 Dessert menu looked great but we were all too full, though complementary rocky road was brought out on a happy birthday plate - a lovely and welcome touch The staff were wonderful with our two youngest guests - very kind and patient. Overall we had a great meal in relaxed surroundings, the birthday guest of honour was made to feel special and I felt the menu offered delicious food and great value - I would 100% recommend

Firstly, terrific food, we'll definitely be returning. The free homemade olive bread with butter and oil was a great touch and absolutely delicious - so much so I didn't get a picture before we ate it. The Pork Belly was spectacular, the best pork I've ever tasted and I'd wholly recommend it. A full piece of crackling along the edge was great and made for a special treat. My beef was also excellent, not as flavoursome as the pork was but tender and still delicious. The roast potatoes were great too, hard crunchy outsides but a perfect fluffy softness inside, just how you want them, and the accompanying gravy was a decent thickness and full of flavour itself. The Yorkshire was huge and crunchy, maybe a little too well done on the outside edge which made it a tad dry but the body was great. Desserts were also very good, the creme brulee had a great top on it and the flavours worked very well together. The ginger sponge wasn't too heavy and the subtle sweet ginger was a nice end to the meal. Definitely recommended!

I have lived in France, I have travelled moderately far, I have never had mussels as good. The normal fare in cream etc are as good as you will ever get. However where this chef excels is when she adds a Curry or a spectacular Thai sauce to the menu. She will probably ban me for this review because I guess it adds complexity. But if you ask when you book it will be done. The reality is I am picking out a very specific dish, deliberately because it is so special though hardly alone at this eatery. There are only a small number of establishments across Rutland, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire that can stand shoulder to shoulder with this food. Give it a try! Oh and try the smoked sprats on toast, to die for! The Duck is also fantastic.

We love the Wheatsheaf and will take any opportunity we can to go there. The service is first class and feels like coming home. The food is incredible - homemade and excellent quality. The sticky ginger pudding is my personal favourite! Thank you team - no doubt we will see you again soon!

Really lovely, quality meal at The Wheatsheaf. The service was measured to ensure that there was no rush. Plates, cutlery and glassware, were clean and shiny, the plates of food were hot and the food was visibly attractive and tempting. All of the food was...

Fabulous food (we were there for lunch) with friendly and attentive staff. I’m dairy intolerant and they picked that up from the booking and adapted my choices to ensure that I could enjoy a DF experience. Wish we lived closer so that we could have enjoyed some wine from their extensive list!!

What an amazing find. Everything about this restaurant was excellent and the food was exceptional. A group of 6 and all absolutely loved it. Wine also good quality and staff wonderful. Menu both interesting and varied. No pub grub in sight.

This is the best place in Rutland for a meal, for good staff and caring service always. In fact it's not just the best place in Rutland but most likely in all of the South East.

“A royal disaster at the Kings Arms! Took the family out for what we hoped would be a hearty meal and instead got… well, a small sample size of a dinner! The much-anticipated muntjac main came out and looked more like an appetizer, served with all the grandeur of a bite-sized snack. When we politely asked the waitress if this was actually the main course, she snapped back with a cheery ‘Well, maybe you should eat before you come next time!’ Ah, the charm. Things only got weirder when the owner marched over, raised an eyebrow at us like we were some sort of Yelp/TripAdvisor/Google Review mafia, and kindly informed us, ‘You’d better not even think about leaving a review.’ Well, here we are, honoring her request… sort of. So, if you’re into dining experiences where you leave hungrier than you arrived and enjoy being mildly threatened, the Kings Arms is your kind of place!”

We called in for lunch after completing an event at Rutland Water. The menu was limited, but offered some interesting choices. Unfortunately, the food did not fulfil our expectations and porportion sizes were small meaning my partner and son left hungry. Therefore an expensive meal. The service was adequate, but not overly friendly. Sadly, we will not be returning, despite the great location.

The food was fine and of decent quality but nothing special. The service was below par. We weren't permitted to order until 20 minutes after we arrived because of a "big party" (it wasn't) and it was 80 minutes until we got our food from first arrival and one was a cold cheese platter! Ok ish in a Michelin star restaurant but not in Rutland for Sunday lunch. A shame as the location and venue is otherwise charming.
