I've known of this pub for over 30 years but never visited due to relocating elsewhere so whilst in the area again decided to pop in for Sunday lunch then pub and restaurant were fully booked but the landlord kindly let us have a table due to a cancellation the roast beef was very generous and tasty and freshly cooked it was a pleasure to be in a beautiful real traditional pub and a real landlord the pub was clean and has a beer garden as well the toilets are stunning so much effort is made in this pub thank you for an amazing lunch

Lovely village pub and friendly staff. Sunday lunch was being served or a selection of specials - we were spoilt for choice. Served my a lovely smiley waitress Jess. Too full for a dessert but what was being served looked delicious. Well worth a visit.

This was just across the road from where we were staying so, very convenient. We had booked for seven o'clock and were there well beforehand. The friendly chap behind the bar took our drinks order and, showed us to our table. Our food orders were taken at seven o'clock by the same chap but, it was 7.45 before we received our starter, (delivered by the same chap, again), our main courses were delivered in good time after our starters. We have to say the food was really tasty and, we enjoyed our meal however, with that said, the service really was not up to scratch, it appeared that the barman and his wife, (chef), were the only staff there, not nearly enough to keep the customers happy!

While staying in Rockingham we visited this charming country pub for dinner. We received a warm welcome from the landlord Gene. The meals we had were absolutely delicious, good size portions and very reasonably priced. The desserts were to die for. We were so impressed that we returned a couple of evenings later only to have an even better meal. Thank you Debbie and Gene for a first class dining experience.

Great little country pub. We planned a visit here to meet up with family, the pub is charming, really nicely decorated and super clean. They have a great beer selection including local brewery ‘Bakers Dozen’, and rotating cask ales. The pub has also recently won a CAMRA ‘Pub of the Year’ award which is well deserved. The menu is tempting and the food was fab! Will definitely be back :)

We were staying at an air bnb in Caldecott and booked here for dinner. What a warm welcome we received! The menu was the blackboard with plenty of pub staples to choose from. I had a good chunky steak and Stilton pie, followed by raspberry and white chocolate brioche pudding. Good wholesome cooking supported by friendly and flexible service. I would recommend, but I think booking in advance might be advisable.

Seven of us went in the evening for my husbands birthday. The Plough haven't got lots of staff just 1 waitress and Debbie the landlady does all the cooking they have a menu but they have a large choice on a blackboard in the restaurant so you rarely need to see it as you have so many lovely choices you never need to look at that. You obviously have to wait a short while after you have ordered as as I mentioned before Debbie does everything. The wait is definitely worth it the meals are always fantastic.

I went to the plough inn with family for Sunday lunch. It was a nice little intimate pub with a cosy atmosphere but I was very disappointed in the food. The meat was chewy and the other food was bland and overcooked. The Yorkshire pudding was obviously frozen and it was hard to cut with my knife. The service was ok but it did take a while to receive our food. A real shame to have had an overall negative experience.

Little bit of a hostile welcome saying something about the chickens being chased near the road. Maybe put the chickens away stating you are dog friendly? Food nice, not outstanding. Opening times limited too. Hubby asked to buy a bottle of wine to take away and the owner stated no problem we will charge you £10 instead of £22, yep £22 was taken from the bank 🙄

Dropped by while staying in a nearby caravan site. Had dinner and a few pints in the large rear garden, accompanied by two friendly hens. The garden is fully enclosed and peaceful and also at the rear of the pub is a serving hatch which avoids the need to go inside to order. The menu was as expected for a rural pub and we shared a starter of salt and pepper squid (spicy and delicious) followed by a steak pie for me and braised beef for my wife. Both meals were generous and tasty. My pie was full of beautifully cooked chunks of tender beef with a lovely gravy. My wife’s beef in red wine was also very tender with a rich sauce. Our beers were good too. I can’t comment on the interior of the pub but our time eating out in the garden was lovely. Friendly and helpful staff made it even nicer. Our little old dog seemed to enjoy the attentions of the curious hens and I believe they could have been best buddies with a little more time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this pub.

We had our Easter Sunday lunch at The Plough. We have eaten here on numerous occasions and yet again “team Plough” delivered another delicious Sunday lunch. The food was piping hot, well cooked and a generous portion size. 4 of us opted for the Sunday roast which came with amazing crispy roast potatoes, 4 different types of vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. 2 in our family had suet pudding which came with the potatoes and vegetables. We all opted for dessert with my parents sharing a raspberry and apple pie. The rest of us had Belgian chocolate pudding, Baileys cheesecake and treacle sponge pudding. Again these were generous portions and tasted divine. Everything is very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend The Plough but they do get very busy with their “regulars” so it’s best to ring and book.

This is a basic pub with standard pub grub. The service was slow and the atmosphere was a little dull. I had lamb shank which could have been served a little warmer but it was nice enough. O/h had sirloin steak which was cooked as he wanted. The starters were the best for me little fishcakes although I couldn't taste the leek or cheese, but they did appear to be fresh. We visited this pub last night for a meal.It isn't the first time but we haven't been for a while.Parking is a bit difficult. If they have a car park,it isn't obvious. It was a Wednesday night and there were a few people eating in the curtained off restaurant area and also in the bar.Service was a bit slow but we got our drinks and sat down to look at the menu. The specials board was much more interesting.and we ordered off that.My partner had breaded mushrooms with a garlic dip to start and I had a delicious risotto which had peas and mushrooms in it.To follow,we both had crab and salmon lasagne, which came with salad and a bowl of chips.Everything was very hot and well worth the wait. The lasagne was the best I have ever tasted and my partner really enjoyed it too.We chatted to a few people in the pub and they all had nothing but praise for the food. The landlord seems to do everything, serve the drinks and food, clear the table, answer the phone. As I said service is slow and I can't imagine what it would be like if it was full but having said that,it is more than worth the wait for such delicious food and I can't wait to return.Lovely selection of gins, served beautifully. The landlord is a lovely, chatty man so another bonus.Thank you for such a wonderful meal.

We dropped in for a coffee at about 11:45 on a Sunday morning. Super welcome, good & nicely presented coffee in china cups and a sensible price. The whole place was beautifully clean - especially the loos - and we plan to come again when in the area - but this time we'll book to eat. Roadside pubs seem to be struggling these days but The Plough Inn deserves to be well frequented.

Have had the best meal tonight the chef is fantastic Gene the landlord is so welcoming you have to book in advance for a table on a Saturday night but that's fine don't mind waiting 2/3 weeks to get a table you just know it's going to be fantastic nom nom nom nom nom

We have been coming here regularly for several years, and in itself must be prove we love it,same as always many locals, but be warned you may find it full on many weekends owing to so many nearby attractions and venues lovely unspoilt pub with good beers and wines very reasonable food prices but that wouldn't matter if it was only ok so so but it exceedingly good, this pub is set in a pretty village and a couple of miles from Rockingham Castle. Highly recommended without breaking the bank.

Decided to drop in for food. Being Fathers Day it was busy but Gene was able to fit us in. Generous portion sizes on starters and main courses.....too stuffed to attempt dessert but very tempted by choices on offer. Only lack of parking lost a review point otherwise a very pleasant lunch.

Had an awesome roast dinner here today. Sharing platter which easily fed 2 adults and 2 children (with leftovers for two hungry and knackered dogs!) The meats were cooked to perfection and the veg was packed with flavour. Lovely presentation. Will definitely be back.

Visited on a trip to Oakham. It's Caffe Nero so you know what to expect but it's cosy with nice coffee. Only downside for me is that it seems to be one of the branches that allow dogs. And there were quite a lot squealing and clip clopping around on the wooden floors. Price you pay for being deep in the country I guess.

Using rooms rating instead for the food rating , as it was amazing. Started out with a 3 for £15 nibbles board between three of us, which was just the right amount for the wait until mains. Once they arrived, I was greeted by the best fish and chips I've had in my life, with amazing tartare sauce and the mushy peas were beautiful. Will be coming again for certain! The only negative I can think of was the service was slightly on the slower side, but still very professional and well done! Thank you for a wonderful evening! Edit: Been back twice since the reopening, and both times had amazing food and atmosphere!

A truly delicious lunch, all our food was well presented, tasty and on hot plates. Two of us enjoyed the chicken stuffed with spinach, tasty sauce and potatoes, another had scampi, another gammon. Very friendly waitress, Sharon, who had time to talk to us and offered a great service The pub offers a wide menu and specials of the day. It us situated in the middle of the village and just off the A1. Free parking on site, with tables outside as well
