I visited this Very lovely country pub with my partner and daughter and upon arrival was welcomed by a very lovely lady who couldn't do any more to help us and was very polite. I ordered the steak and ale pie, chips, peas, carrots and gravy which was absolutely lovely the price was 12.50p and the pie was homemade.my partner ordered the chicken burger which she absolutely loved and had 7 mini fillets on with homemade batter it also came with homemade onion rings, chips, salad and coleslaw all for 12.50p. My daughter ordered chicken nuggets which was homemade chicken chuncks and chips an peas for 7.50p and she loved it.To top it off my daughter knocked over 2 full cokes everywhere and instead of attitude or dirty looks the lady was amazing and so understanding.id recommended this pub to anybody and everybody who loves a well priced meal and amazing food also they have a good selection of homemade puddings and a log fire in the middle just to give it that extra country pub feel.

Nice pub with friendly staff and fellow customers. Only went in to keep warm before going to a Southwell Minster Evensong (we like sacred music and fab architecture). Beer okay, excellent home-made sausage rolls straight out of the oven - could have eaten three! Coffee poor but it doesn't set itself up to be a coffee shop. Overall worth a drop in.

Popped in for lunch around 12.15 (Thursday) first time visitors. The dining area is spacious and light with plenty of seating. We had bacon, leek, mushroom and Stilton pie (delicious and full of flavour), home made pork and caramelised onion sausage roll (tasty and stuffed with filling) and last but not least a tuna and cheese panini (just the right amount of filling and toasted just right). Staff were friendly, cheerful and served with a smile. We will definitely be returning in the near future to try out some more of the menu and specials. Highly recommended *****

Called enroute to Newark for lunch . Great food and service but be warned ! The prices are very steep . A cheese and ham panini albeit served with fresh small salad and a few crisps is top price at just under £13 ! Add a small dessert and tea for a £21.65 total is way up their for what is basically a cafe and not a restaurant experience .

As one earlier contributor mentioned it is ‘card only’ but is clearly stated on the door. What a wonderful pub this is. It’s like stepping back in time and has a super range of draft ales, craft ales, ciders and some stouts too. The beer was excellent and served by knowledgable bar staff who clearly know their subject. The interior of the pub retains a quirky railway theme and it was spotlessly clean and had a good trade mid afternoon on a wet Tuesday. There is plenty of choice for non beer drinkers too. A lovely range of bar snacks available too. A real gem of a pub and I’d strongly recommend a visit to this CAMRA award winning venue.
