Zooby's Sandwich Deli & Fairtrade Coffee Bar in Sheffield

Staff prioritising chatting over service during busy dinner period - chatting is fine, but maybe do it at less busy times. Baguette was buttered when I asked it not to be, but just as well since the bread was so dry. Plenty of better places to go in Sheffield city centre these days.

From the £3.80 kids lunchbox, to the freshly made sandwiches to the cheap and cheerful coffee and cake, this place is great. Fine dining it is not, but it is budget Sheffield institution.

Long queue, workers just want to spend their time chatting with their colleagues instead of serving customers. Nasty coffee. Weak as piss. No flavour at all. Don’t go here, instead walk just across the road and go to Starbucks!

Despite my sandwich eventually being lovely it took so long to make I nearly walked away. Staff would be better concentrating on their customers and the orders rather than chatting between themselves. I had to constantly keep reminding the lad who served me what I had ordered he just wasn’t interested in what he was doing. As well as terrible service the coffee was awful too. I won’t be going back and will go to Greggs instead.

Happened across this spot in the WinterGardens - what a gem! Lovely coffee in a range of sizes, and costing nothing more than the regular high street chains. Friendly, kind staff!

Just don't bother going here..plenty of good options in town. Staff were very rude to us everything was too much trouble. Definitely wasn't service with a smile and it's not like it is cheap either. Tables needed a good clean (all of them).

Obviously others have had a better experience Coffee OK….panino completely tasteless Then, couldn’t change a £20 note….really!, a whole £20 Assume not prepared to carry any sort of float.

Visited Sheffield for the Snooker, Zoobys was definitely our first choice for breakfast/ brunch. Wonderful friendly service, excellent fresh food and a wide selection of choice. Highly recommended.

Situated in the Winter Garden, this is a friendly little coffee/sandwich shop. The paninis/baguettes are made fresh to order and even though there was a queue, service was prompt! Very good value for money.

The staff, mainly student aged, aren't particularly very organised and scrabbling around the place knocking off things. They are also not very hospitable. Hygiene is not a priority at all. The surfaces behind the counter are unclean as I have seen lots of crumbs scattered all over the place and stains which is disgusting. I'm not confident that the toaster is any cleaner. Also, it takes a long time to wait and finding seating can be an issue meaning you are left standing like a lemon waiting (15 mins+ approx for a pannini) for staff to deliver your order. Ironically, while staff can take a while to prepare the order, they don't give the customer much time to make a decision over what you want and you are left under pressure looking at the black board with them overbearing asking you what you want.

Good choice and made to order. I have eaten here before with my family and was just passing so called in for a sandwich. They have a lit of choice and I ordered a tuna, cheese and lemon panini on olive and pesto bread. Cooked quickly and delivered to my table. Lovely area to sit and people watch. I thought it was good value for money. Only reason it's not 5 stars is because it was a bit messy to eat! Would definitely visit again. Great selection for kids too as my 5 year old can be picky.

I called in to Zoobys for a bite in between the morning and afternoon sessions at the Snooker, like I have done in previous years. They have a wide choice of sandwich fillings, not just the 'ham, cheese etc' you get at most places. Service was prompt and friendly, they offer white and brown rolls, and I chose a Bacon and Brie panini, on an olive flavoured roll. It only took 5 mins to prepare and cook, although they do have other choices ready made. When it came it was so tasty, nicely toasted, not overdone and though quite large it wasn't stodgy. I look forward to going to the Snooker, partly as I know where I'm going for lunch. They also do tasty cakes !

It’s so sad because I used to love Zoobies but it’s gone bad now; staff are clueless and I had to repeat my order over and over again. She ended up forgetting mine and when she eventually gave me it, the panini was so overdone and dry and had hardly any filling in it. My friend ordered a sandwich and they used to fill them so well but now you hardly get anything. I won’t be going back until they get a grip, really a shame as such a great location. Deffo avoid

Worst flat white ever, had to throw it in the bin after waiting 15 mins to be served on a quiet day. Avoid.

Nice location inside the winter gardens. Good selection of lunch items. I had the Jerk chicken panini but they had run out of chutney which it needed. Tasted ok but had better. Would return and try something different as it definitely has potential.

Very nice cafe inside the winter gardens and it's usually busy. The coffee and snacks are very reasonable prices and great coffee and lovely fresh sandwiches. It's a must stop when you visit the winter gardens.

Terrible. Staff are unfriendly and inefficient, they have always run out of everything and the queues are always huge. Basically if you want to wait for a long time and then be unable to get anything you want, go here. Much better places nearby.

Me encanta una mocha y Zooby's tiene uno de los mejores que he encontrado. Fuimos a tomar un café durante el fin de semana con amigos: café con leche de muy mala calidad, ¡el té no se preparó lo suficiente antes de que se vierta la leche! Ahora todo esto se reduce al abogado del día, el mío definitivamente necesita más entrenamiento sobre cómo hacer buenas bebidas para un buen paladar.

El jardín de invierno siempre merece una visita y este lugar de café y sándwich tiene un amplio espacio de mesa para justificar una parada de un día en la ciudad. Hay una gran variedad de bocadillos que incluyen opciones de pastel pequeño si está tratando de ser restringido.

Fuimos a tomar un sándwich y un café y nos atendió un encantador miembro del personal llamado Lauren que me dio buenos consejos para elegir mi pannini. Qué lugar tan encantador para sentarse y relajarse después de las compras navideñas. Como vivo fuera de la ciudad, encontré esta cafetería por casualidad, pero sin duda volveré a visitarla y la comida también era deliciosa.

We had a quick coffee and lovely bacon sarnie at Zooby's Sandwich bar which is inside the Winter Gardens. It was lovely and relaxing and good quality at a reasonable price.

On the day after the Special Olympics finishes, I went around the Sheffield town centre, looking for a lunch. Then I found this deli within the Winter Gardens. I had the Bacon and Brie Panini, Yorkshire Crisps (w/ Henderson's Relish) and a can of 7UP Free. Good location, good outdoor seating, nice food. You'll like it!

I visited here because I heard that they offered decent veggie food. I ordered a veggie sausage sandwich on a granary baguette. It was delicious and good value for money. The staff were friendly and I will definitely visit again!

Zooby's is somewhere I often go when shopping or otherwise in Sheffield. It is very good value, especially the coffee and cake for £2.00. It is also rather pleasant to sit in the Winter Gardens surrounded by interesting plants. The food is freshly prepared.

Found it in the corner of Sheffield Winter Gardens and ordered the BLT and an Americano. Both came a few minutes later. The BLT was a good size and the coffee was great. Pleasant surrounding too.

When visiting the Sheffield Winter Gardens and in need of refreshment, this top class sandwich and deli bar is a welcome surprise. Not just the usual unimaginative range, bus some really signature bites, hot and cold drinks, plenty of places to sit. Ideal for shoppers, visitors, students and workers to sit for lunch, morning coffee or afternoon tea.

A good range of food available here. We just had a very good coffee and toasted teacake. To sit and relax for a while inside the winter gardens is an added bonus. Good friendly staff and reasonable prices.

This is ideally located by the main window in the Winter Garden and one can obtain sandwiches, snacks, tea and coffee etc. Sometimes there is quite a queue but ideal place to sit and people watch.

My sun in law is blind he went to counter to get chocolate cake and a drink the staff gave him date and walnut cake he had took a bite of the cake to find this out he went back to counter and tried to swap it but they would not swap it . When we were being served the girls behind the counter were not very helpful would not use this place again

Popped in today for a spot of lunch prior to a visit to the Lyceum. We ordered 2 Pannini sand cofffees. After a slightly long wait out came the food. I had tuna mayo with cheddar and lemon dill. It was superb- up there with best ever. Lovely filling and lightly toasted bread. My wife had a smokey bacon and Brie - her favourite and that was given the thumbs up as well. It's situated in the Winter gardens next to the plantation. Definitely worth a visit and a few quid spent.

This is a cafe inside the Winter Gardens (which is a huge greenhouse in the centre of Sheffield). They have an excellent range of vegetarian/vegan meals (if you're that way inclined) but I had a bacon butty & hot chocolate which were very good. Nice to sit amongst the foliage. Could do with cleaning tables down quicker but nice stop for snack/drink.

We stayed at the mercure hotel and did not want the big production breakfast. Zooby's was perfect. Location meant that we did not have to go outside as the hotel connects to the winter gardens. Plenty of seating under the palms. Great for marmalade and toast and a latte all for under a fiver! Recommended.

We usually eat lunch here when we pop into town as the paninis are excellent and good value for money, coffee not expensive either, its nice to sit and look at the lovely plants in the Winter Garden whilst eating.

Wow never have I been to a deli where the staff looked so unhappy and miserable. The food was average and the service barely functional. Didn't listen to my order so got it wrong then the girl serving told me "that's not what you said". Yes it is. Then I ordered simple toast and marmite for our son, one request, very little marmite please, it came lathered in it. Such a shame as lovely surroundings, just depressing service.

I have visited multiple times and never been able to get a smoothie despite the large sign advertising them. When I asked about them I was told "it's summer innit" and then tried to order a sandwich only to be told we could only have the ready made sandwiches. Staff were fairly rude, but seemed pretty cool with me drinking my smoothie from the nearby Starbucks (good backup for a reliable smoothie- at least capitalism is consistent, am I right?)

Exposed sandwich drop on floor, had to argue with several staff for new sandwich.Having made my sandwich the staff member was struggling to detach the bag for it from the other bags and knocked the only semi covered baguette onto the floor. As the staff member continued to struggle the shift manager came over to help and spent almost a minute extraditing the bag from its string. Several members of staff walked past and began to doubt whether or not I saw the sandwich fall to the ground, 'surely someone would have picked it up by now...' I thought.Only then to see the staff member finally pick it up and continue to bag it to hand it over. I mention that it has been on the floor and have no desire to eat floor food, Staff member and then shift manager continue to point out that the sandwich is wrapped, I agree with them, it is now wrapped, AFTER it was knocked to the floor.A new sandwich is grudgingly offered but not before the manager tries once again to convince me that its not 'that' bad its been on the floor and that it can't be as dirty as I think as only the ends of the sandwich were exposed.Dear reader, well done for making it this far but I believe you also would not want floor sandwich.

This is a great place for lunch. Lots of choices for sandwiches and jacket potatoes etc including a great veggie and vegan selection. The staff are nice and very friendly. There aren't too many tables and chairs outside but if you can get one its a great place to eat lunch inside the winter gardens.

Called in today for a sandwich with my husband and parents for a quick sandwich and was terribly dissapointed. The bagettes we ordered took a long time to make up and we're very dissapointing. I had the lemon chicken with basil which sounds really nice. I imagined a lovely crusty granary bagettes with a mixture of tender chicken done in a lemon mayonnaise with some basil mixed in. What I got couldn't be far from that. I got a dry bagette with a few slices of chicken in with a sprinkling of lemon juice on from a bottle followed with a few bits of basil!!! I had to ask for some majo on it before my server closed the bagette. The other sandwiches we ordered were of pretty much the same standard. They seriously need to look at their menu and what they actually produce. A waste of money and very dissapointed

I love Zooby's because they serve the most wonderful veggie sausage sandwiches along with a whole variety of snacks, many of which are Fair Trade. There are a great range of teas and coffees and the staff are friendly and efficient. Another positive is Zooby's exclusive tables in the Winter Gardens. Lovely place to chat or just watch the world go by

There's so much to choose from at this little cafe I never know which to have. Different breads, loads of filling combinations and a great range of drinks too - loads of interesting things for vegetarians to indulge in. Then you can take it away or eat in the seating area in the lovely setting of the Winter Gardens. Yum!

This cafe looks very nice on first sight, however the tables aren't cleaned between customers and the drinks didn't live up to our expectations.

Sit and enjoy the Winter Gardens from a table at Zooby's or look over Tudor Square and just people watch. Good value fresh sandwiches and breakfasts and where else can you get a tea for a pound?

Not sure if Zoobys has changed hands but the staff don't look at all familiar these days and the service and quality aren't what they used to be. Nevertheless we had a reasonable panini on a Saturday afternoon after being unable to decide where to eat. We waited ages as they only appear to be able to cook 2 paninis at a time. I had tuna and cheddar with lemon and dill but it was extremely dry. My husband had a panini as well and said his was good. Coffee is good. Tables need to be cleared and cleaned more often! I do still have a soft spot for Zoobys though and will go back again and hope the next experience will be better.

I stopped at Zooby's for a hot drink and a snack. £2 for a tea and an excellent cake, a slice of carrot cake, what a treat at an unbeatable price, especially in the Winter gardens at the city centre. I really appreciated to be able to have a drink at a different place than Sta*****ks which seems to invade England with other chains, it's good to find small coffee shops with an ethics. I would definitely visit very often if I lived in Sheffield, would you consider opening a shop in Bordeaux, please?!

Great food and friendly service in a lovely location. We had soup which was fantastic. Staff were great. Now a definite stop when we visit Sheffield.

Zooby's is really handy for a snack or drink bang in the centre of Sheffield. There are tables in the Winter Gardens, some of which overlook Tudor Square so it's a great place to people watch. Some good vegetarian options are available and there jacket potatoes are very good, though the coffee can be a bit variable!

No problem with the food. What I have a problem with is the terrible music they have blaring out at a ridiculous volume level and the staff shouting over the top of it.

I visit Zooby's regularly when visiting Sheffield. It is located inside the Winter Gardens and a great place to be. The seating area is quite basic and can get quite full. However, I don't ever remember not being able to find a seat. This has actually meant at times that I've shared a table with a stranger and we've struck up really good conversations. So it's a friendly place to be. I am vegan and Zooby's offers a range of sandwiches - on big fluffy rolls, baguettes etc - cold and hot to suit. Of course it has foodstuffs to suit veggies and carnivores too. The drinks are reasonably priced and good quality and there are some luscious cakes too, including a vegan one. There are several eateries to choose from in the city centre which cater for vegans but it's rare that Zooby's doesn't win out with me! I meet up with a friend/friendsfor lunch there on occasion.

We are regular visitors to Zoobys in the Winter Gardens in Sheffield city centre. They have a fantastic selection of sandwich fillings, including vegetarian options as well as different bread options, including granary rolls and baguettes, paninis, plain white rolls and baguettes. They also sell yummy cakes and slices, ice cream, a good selection of cold drinks, delicious coffee, wonderful Yorkshire crisps, soup, fruit and other snacks. My favourite is vegetarian pate with chargrilled vegetables on a granary roll. They have a few tables just outside the shop and a few more a short distance away by the front entrance to the Winter Garden. The only grumble I would have is that the tables are nearly always dirty so we end up having to fetch a cloth and clean them ourselves or get out the pack of wet wipes. I think that this is testament to the fact that they are always so busy and maybe don't have time to clean up!!!
