Zizzi - York in York

We went today for a saturday afternoon lunch - party of 5 (my parents, myself, my teenager and my 8yo) to quietly celebrate my Mum’s birthday. Starting with the positives: the restaurant is clean and well maintained, nicely decorated and not over crowded. There are 2 floors, although only the ground floor level was being used when we ate today. There’s a good selection for children, and the staff were pleasant and engaging with my 8yo, making him feel valued and included. On to the negatives - service was, on the whole, sub par. Whilst polite, we were regularly “abandoned” for want of a better phrase. Had great difficulty attracting the attention of any staff (not just the server who’s section we were in). We ordered olives & pasta crisps, then mains - we waited 45 minutes from the olives being cleared to the first of the main meal doshes being set down. During that wait, we were table checked twice for drinks, only some of which actually arrived. The kids meal & the only pizza ordered finally hit the table - kids bolognaise was lukewarm but the pizza was stone cold. Then we had a wait of 10 minutes before the vegan lasagne was deivered, and another 5 minutes before the remaining 2 carbonara dishes were delivered. I’m all for not being rushed when eating, but taking 45 minutes to begin to deliver the main meals (and 15 minutes to actually get all the mains on the table) is beyond a joke. Pizza - inedible (unless you’re a veteran who’s lived off rations on active service … good job my Dad got the pizza!). Kids meal - lukewarm but enthusiastically consumed. Carbonara - the chef needs to learn the difference between “crispy” pancetta and “burned to a cinder”. Staff were allerted to the issue and appologised - the pizza and non delivered drinks were removed from the bill. They offered to recook the pizza, but at this point we’d waited that long and just wanted to eat as a family so the cold pizza was eaten. The absolute failure of the team was compounded by the fact that our server then came over mid meal (when we’d already discretely expressed our concerns to a member of staff who’d comp’d the pizza immediately) then asked “is everything ok with your meal?” … Disbelief is an understatement - do the staff not communicate with each other? And the same question again when the bill was paid - was everything ok? My Dad simply replied “we don’t want to make a fuss or a big thing about it, we’ve already discussed our concerns with your colleague, but no. Everything was about as far from ok as it could have been.” The staff did what they could - my Mum commented “they know they’ve mucked up” (polite phrasing) to rectify the situation, but suffice to say, next time we’re in York we’ll be eating elsewhere!

Elena, our excellent hostess, made us feel so welcome. The food was piping hot and exactly as described. I highly recommend the meatballs - they're delicious! The spiedini is also a tasty option for anyone watching their calorie intake. My calzone was perfectly cooked and generously filled. There are many Italian restaurants in York but this is a firm favourite, as the staff are always friendly and professional and the food is excellent.

We visited Zizzi tonight in York. And had a very enjoyable evening. The staff were friendly and helpful. We both enjoyed our meals. We had the three course menu. That was very good value for money. The food was excellent and plentiful. We came out full to the brim. We would definitely recommend.

The food was OK but it cooled down very quickly because the restaurant was cold even with heaters on. The corridor to the toilets and the toilets themselves were very cold and dirty. This was very disappointing.

Had the pleasure of coming back to Zizzi's York this weekend. After a long day of walking around, this resturant is just the place to visit. The staff here are absolutely lovely and have always provided a 5 star service. The food is amazing, theres a variety of options to choose from, and everything comes out hot and fresh. If you are visiting York, this is a must visit. Amazing food for an amazing price!!

Chef tonight was pretty handsome + KP, enjoyed the view. Shelby did amazing service. Will come again!

Absolutely 💯 excellent experience!! Thanks guys, for the service and the delicious food. Every time we come over from the Netherlands to the UK, Zizzi is our go to place. The restaurant in York, however, is an absolute topper.

Had a really lovely time at Zizzi’s in York. Our waitress Liv helped us when we were unsure on what to order as one of our friends has a gluten intolerance. She had patience and ran through all the options with him and made our experience amazing. The food we received was excellent and we are definitely returning when we visit York again ☺️

Visited York’s Zizzi a while ago and it needed improvement. Service was slow and the food could’ve been better. Decided to visit again last night and the service was amazing, as well as the food being delicious. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Came for a spot of lunch and had the privilege to talk to one of the chefs called reece really nice bloke very kins and polite had a great knowledge of the menu helping me choose what I would like ro eat. Thankyou and happy new year

Enjoyed a family meal here over the festive period. The service was great. Ryan and his team can’t do enough for you. The chef on at the time (think he was called Reece) was very accommodating to us when we needed some tweaks for a fussy eater, he understood the assignment. Food was great, no long waiting times. Fantastic. Would defo recommend.

We managed to book a table for our party of 9 (on the day) for New Year's day, which we were pleasantly surprised they could accommodate us. When we arrived there were only 6 people in the building, which did make me think, have we made a mistake! After a slight delay in seating us, we ordered our drinks and had a look at the menu. Now, it's not an easy task to keep 9 people happy with food, but I can honestly say our food was fantastic! From the garlic breads, to the carbonara and lasagne, and not to forget the risotto...all food was very tasty! No complaints at all from our party, and we will certainly return when we are next in York!

Bea was a lovely server today at Zizzi’s. Food was devine, lovely set menu with great choices.

Busy Saturday night, but tables available. Greeted and sat promptly, but next to the toilet door, which creates a draft every time it's opened. Only ordered mains, one pizza and one calzone. Food arrived extremely quickly (within 5 minutes of ordering). The sticky pig pizza was just about acceptable, with rather scarce topping. The calzone was barely half filled, and the filling just didn't taste right. So much so, and rather embarrassed, I asked for it to be sent back. Well handled by the server who was extremely apologetic and offered to get something else. To be honest, just not good enough, so chose not to eat st all. It's been a while since we were here last, and quite probably won't be back any time soon.

Does it take a review like this for you to check how filthy your toilets are in a food serving establishment? Shame on you both! the floors are begrimed with months of FILTH. It would take an hour to sort this, I almost did. Totally unacceptable. The service was good. My Pigpizza lacked filling, only 80% thin coverage, at about £17, but I ate it!! My partner’s Piccante and the next table was a dump of ingredients surrounded by excessive pastry. He refused embarrassing as it was. 1st visit for a long time when it was much more pleasureable and we will NOT be returning.

Called in on Friday night dead on our feet in the vain hope of finding a table. We were greeted warmly and fitted in but told we only had an hour. The pizzas were delicious and the Montepulciano did not disappoint either! Speedy service at a very good price. The highlight of our meal though had to be our server, Shelby, warm friendly and very accommodating. Proper warm norther hospitality at its finest. Non of the scripted Americanised spiel. Just good honest northern lass doing her job very well. We will be back and management should make sure the retain the staff as they were all brilliant!

Great fresh food, staff were nice. Toilets disgusting- back of loo was covered in weeks of fur, hair and grime. Floor was equally filthy. Let down a near perfect experience.

Absolutely shocking, never complained before but felt I needed to this time , served starters ok , then had over half hour wait for main courses to be served only to be told kitchen had forgotten them , 1 came hot and 1 came cold along side garlic bread , told the waitress who promptly took it away and said I will get you a fresh1 , on return my partner had almost eaten her meal , I commented on the bread now being cold , only to be told “ well it was hot when I served it “ needless to say we won’t be returning,

What a place to eat. The food was very nice definitely worth any wait at a busy time. The staff were very kind and made sure you were satisfied with your food. One of the waitresses Olivia was especially nice. The atmosphere was great too. It wasnt too loud and at the same time it wasnt too quiet. Very nice place definitely worth the cost. Would 100% recommend.

Poor service. Food wasn't even average. Atmosphere was poor and felt like we were not welcome. Other Zizzi restaurants I have been to are miles better. Sorry York but that was my experience.
