The members of staff were fantastic, great service, friendly and good fun

Not a good exerience here, the Calzone Pizza they cooked me looked like a starter. To be fair I complained at the time and the refunded the cost of the meal. Fortunately my Wife is on a diet so she shared her pizza with me or I would have gone hungry. Pencil in image for scale.

Won’t answer the phone at all, just hang up on us 10 times. We ordered a take away and can’t eat anchovies or cows cheese so we rang to edit the order and no one answered. Customer services can’t ring through for you and the app does not allow you to customise your order unless it’s ’vegan Or gluten free’. Very disappointing. We’re loyal customers and we’re just giving up on pizza express now as it’s such a ballache place to order in or from if you can’t eat certain foods … we’ve now spent over £40 on an order we can’t eat (and can’t cancel) because their website advises contacting the branch you order from after an order is placed and not before! Cheers guys !

We ordered a gluten free pizza and a normal pizza and the gluten free pizza has hardly no cheese or sauce on it at all(wouldn’t call this a pizza) and then with the normal pizza the dough was see through. Didn’t have time to take it back as we were going to a concert. We have had issues with other pizza express’s in the past but this just topped them all. I will not use pizza express again, it’s terrible considering the price you have to pay. DO NOT USE THIS PIZZA EXPRESS AT ALL

Was such a lovely environment and the food was great, our waitress Logan was so kind and very accommodating of my allergy !

Had an absolutely delicious pizza here yesterday; bottom just crispy enough, nice fluffy edges, service attentive but not invasive. Perfect! They might not have the beautiful interior of the Lendal branch, but the staff front and back of house are superior (although in the Lendal manager's defence, he is excellent). Thank you!

I’ve sampled Pizza Express in many locations but I have to say the experience at Sampson Square in York was exceptional. We were made to feel so very welcome the moment we walked in the door and service was quick and great. We will definitely return to this particular Pizza Express again and again due to this great experience. Thank you to all the staff for giving us such a great evening

Re heated pizza base delivered in about 3 minutes, undercooked ingredients, shocker!

Service was slow yet there was hardly anyone in there. Large bottle of prosecco was served unopened and we were asked to open it ourselves. They forgot one of our desserts and we had to remind the staff. The other dessert wasn't served as it was shown on the website. The cleanliness was very poor especially in the downstairs disabled access toilet.

Very nice restaurant with good ambience. Zee was very courteous and pleasant.

Zee was so lovely to us all night she gave us recommendations for desserts that we loved, and her service was impeccable :)

The food was excellent. Not many people where there and zee was particularly brilliant.

The staff were lovely, so this comment is not about them at all, but Pizza Express as a chain. I have been to 2 different restaurants now and have to eat gluten free as I have coeliac disease. The menu says that there are 2 GF bases that can be ordered for pizza, but the classic base seems to be the the only one available. It is good there is a GF offer, but it's tiny when compared to the other bases so is rather disappointing and costs the same as a larger one. Can this be sorted out as my choices are limited as it is!

We booked a family meal for 16 people travelling from all around the country and I can’t praise Alice our server more highly. From the moment we arrived she made us feel welcome and looked after us with drinks while we waited for the rest of the group. We had preordered our food and it all arrived together about 15-20 mins after we sat down - food was delicious and service was excellent

We had a great evening thanks to Arthur. Very attentive, polite and made us feel very relaxed. Great with our 3 year old daughter and went over and above to make sure we enjoyed our meal and evening. An absolute credit to this restaurant, hope he gets the recognition he deserves 👏

Another superb 'post-panto' trip to Pizza Express with the family. Second year on the bounce we've had Alex looking after us and once again she delivered an outstanding service. Being a large party on a busy December Saturday night it takes someone extra special to offer such excellent service, and Alex didn't miss a beat. She was attentive to the young kids as well as us big kids and overall made for a very enjoyable and relaxed evening for us all. Thanks again Alex, we'll see you next year if not before!

Me and my girlfriend came on the 21st of November 2023 and both agree we have never service like it . Our waiter Artur was amazing , he seated us straight away and was very accommodating. When we ordered I asked it was possible to not have the honey mustard with the dough balls and straight away he offered me other things I could have that I didn’t even see on the menu , and the same for a pizza I ordered . He even offered to take a photo of us and couldn’t possible do anything more to help . The food was also amazing can’t recommend any more . And if you have Artur your definitely in good hands .

We had our table booked for 19:30, however as it was raining we asked at 19:00 if our table was free to come in and order drinks whilst we waited for the rest of our party which was accommodated. The waitress upstairs was unusual to say the least. Some of our party wanted to order starters as their main meals (we had a larger than expected afternoon tea earlier in the day) she then started shouting that she used to be a chef and wanted mains first….. something to do with the way it shows on the order tab in the kitchen…..she went around the table, missed out various members of the party and then was in such a rush nearly didn’t take any side orders or starter orders. Once we had resolved this, we moved onto drinks, she eye rolled as one lady changed her drink order. 20 mins later, despite being asked for all the food to come out together, out come the starters and nothing else. Waitress apologised and said the rest of the food would follow shortly. 20 mins later, the rest appears. She then goes on to say she fetched the missing halloumi bites, we repeatedly told her we wasn’t missing any and had only ordered 2. 5 mins later, she appeared with more halloumi and looked annoyed that no one was claiming them. She then said she would just place them on the table. I told her that was fine but we wasn’t going to pay for them. After a reminder they were removed from the bill. The food was nice overall and arrived hot and was tasty. When we had almost finished (1 person still eating) the waitress returned and started to clear the table. She also decided to sit at our table as she did this, overall we found her strange, impatient and unwelcoming, we felt like an inconvenience to her. I checked the bill on the app and a £28 tip had been added, I asked for this to be removed as we found the service to be below the standard we would expect. I recommend that the management look at getting this lady some training going forward.

Great location in York. It’s quite a small restaurant with jazz pictures on the wall. Go upstairs for wonky floors and a sense of the old building. We had lunch which was quickly served, hot & tasty. Artur served us who was a charming character who engaged with my step daughter which added to the lunch.

We visited for the first time today and we were seen to by Alice, she was the best waitress I w ever had, she was lovely welcoming and her attitude and overall vibe was immaculate! She made our day!

Lovely meal and the atmosphere is great. The staff were very friendly, especially Arthur, who was very attentive to us.

A disappointing experience. My son's pasta was hard and bland and he left it. The kids dessert was supposed to come with a babycinno but didn't. The brownie was rock hard, you couldn't get a spoon through it. The toilet door lock was broken, along with one of the hand dryers and a empty soap despenser. We have been to many other pizza express and loved them. This was a very expensive and disappointing visit.

We had a wonderful dining experience at Pizza Express at 10 St Samson square in York today.A very caring staff, Alison served us the food. She was very attentive, friendly and made us feel right at home. She was very helpful to other customers as she opens the door for people with the pram. This was a sudden decision. To be sure we booked by phone as it was getting late in the evening and nearing our tea time. But they didn’t disappoint us. The pizza was very good and so was the garlic balls. The service was good. Apart from the girl at the front desk all the other was too serious for my liking. They should have been more welcoming and jovial.

We visited for the first time today after the theatre and were wonderfully surprised by both the service & food alike! The team took the care to send through food for our daughter speedily (nothing worse than a hangry child in a restaurant!) and ours wasn’t far behind. Clearly freshly made and extremely tasty. Team were friendly and welcoming without being overbearing, I would have said honestly this was more of an independent style experience rather than what we are used to with chain restaurants and was hugely appreciated not to feel pressured during our visit. Considering how busy it was, tables were cleared fast and the place looked & smelt lovely. We’ll definitely recommend to others, thank you!

Restaurant wasn’t busy but we got placed right in the middle of the room next to another couple. Wasn’t impressed with where the table was and it was quite loud with people behind us. Also, was not happy as we felt watched by the staff the whole time we were eating. It was generally a bit of an awkward place to be sat. Commenting on the staff again, there was a lady who was quite disturbing. She would hover around the tables and sit down to take orders? A bit confused why you would do that. Felt a little invaded. The food was nice, enjoyed the pizza and pasta. However, the pizza was not cooked properly and there was no offer of a pizza wheel. Would not come again.

Love pizza express but this one is terrible Really small and we had the worst seats right next to the fridge and coffee machine - never relaxed as there is always a member of staff next to you at the counter or the fridge - no music playing either. The pizzas we ordered were out of stock so we had to order different pizzas after the order was placed - ran out of wine that I was drinking so had to have something different (I said I would have a Malbec and of course they picked the most expensive one ) The pizza were actually good but seemed smaller than what you normally get ( should of be Romona but got the classic ) but we just excepted them. The new lime sorbet was also not available. Forgot to mention the wonky chairs and table - the waitress did help fix the table but we had to ask to get it sorted, you would think someone would of noticed on cleaning the table. One thing to note is the restaurant is next to a pub so you get the smoke from those outside - they might as well be inside. The waitress was very nice and apologies a lot - could of knocked off something or given a round of drinks but there you go. I have been to pizza express's all over the uk and this was the worst. With the high prices these days feels a terrible waste and not an enjoyable evening.

Oh, I just had the most amazing time at Pizza Express in York, and you won't believe how awesome our waitress, Adhu, was! She chatted with us like we were old pals and made us feel right at home. And let me tell you, she knows that menu inside out. Nice atmosphere, I'd like to thank our waitress Adhu for providing us with a great experience. Throughout the course of the meal, Adhu's service was impeccable.
