My wife and myself went to our local restaurant on 13th March 2022 after many years of visits and found it as always beyond excellent! We started with a garlic bread pizza style; My wife had the chicken Cacciatoria which was brim full of the most tender chicken in a sauce that was to die for and with beautifully cooked vegetables. She was unable to finish her meal and at the Staff suggestion we had the remaining part of the dish boxed to take home. I ordered the 'normal' Chicken Kiev Calzone Pizza, it was huge!! the biggest I have ever had, and we have travelled a bit; the pastry casing was beautifully made and the filling heaven. I tried my best but could not eat it all...so again brought back home to eat tomorrow. The service was attentive and professional, and we noticed that they made special fuss of the children on the next table. The only sad, nay disastrous news, is that they are closing as the owner is subject to advancing years; they close after Easter this year...great sadness! we will miss it.

Although we live locally, this was our first visit to Luigi's to celebrate a birthday. Friends had recommended the food but we were very disappointed. The chicken liver pate starter was oddly topped with charred spring onion leaves, which were inedible, the pate was acceptable. The prawn cocktail was just a plate of prawns in sauce, not at all appealing. The risotto tasted soapy and the steak, gristly and fatty and not cooked as requested and in addition to the pepper sauce, it was topped by a large lettuce leaf!!

Been coming here regularly for the past few months and every time there is always something wrong with the order. This time the service was horrendous the person in charge was too concerned with the table of young women asking about drinks straight away and giving a free pizza bread while we and others had to wait. Order again was wrong and the dessert when questioned which was meant to have vanilla ice cream and a shot was not added was then aggressively taken away by the man in charge but we still had to ask for it be removed from the bill. Food is good compared to other restaurants but why bother going when the service is horrendous. We were not the only people returning food and frankly untrained 16 year old miserable boys serving is not what you expect when paying a premium price. It is a discredit to the kitchen team.

From receiving a warm welcome into the restaurant to being seated outside where heaters and mood lighting was provided so we could experience some al fresco dining for the first time we enjoyed it very much! The restaurant was busy and lively however the members of staff were ever so kind with explaining what drinks and what foods they would recommend to us. I was happy that they could do small portions of the food as I could not eat as much as my husband. The starter portions were huge we both were so surprised as the price wasn't much at all compared to what we received. As mentioned before the staff members were great especially the bubbly girl who served us. massive thanks to the chefs for producing top notch food! We will be coming again

We have been going to Luigis for years, we stopped when it was taken over as it had really gone down the pan. We returned recently and thoroughly enjoyed our family meal. We booked early tea time today as on our way home to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Sadly it was not a good idea. The garlic bread was overdone, hard, crisp and greasy. The pizza was the opposite, runny mushy anemic mess, we couldn't eat it. Waste of time and money. We were offered a free dessert, refused it. The waiter then advised they wouldn't be charging us for the pizza. Disappointing and sad as we will not be back.... to make matters worse there was only a handful of people in...wonder why?

We haven't been here for several years but loved it back then so gave it a go. Nice and busy, which is always a good sign. Waiting staff very friendly, busy and efficient. Didn't take long for us to give our orders. Service was prompt, given how busy they were. Starters were aubergine slices, king prawns, and prawn cocktail. All very good. Mains were lasagna, and pizza. All tasted really good. The only reason I didn't give a 5* rating was the lasagna was half a portion and was scooped from a larger portion but put upsidedown on the plate. We thought we'd been served the wrong dish. A little more care in the presentation would have been good. Puddings were cheesecake and affogato. Again really good. All in all, a good meal and would return again.

Visited with my wife and was really looking forward to dining here after years of passing by and always saying one day we will go there. Well tonight was the night me and my wife decided to treat ourselves.... we wish we had not bothered. I was completely devastated by how bad the food was! Service was slow, but polite. Starters were big in size but, tasteless. Not even seasoned. My wife had Bruschetta which was a massive portion, but very poor. I had the aubergine in tomato sauce with mozzarella which to be honest was the only decent part of the evening. Then for the mains... Just shocking. I had Calzone, which was massive and tasteless and full of cheap packet ham and cheese, nothing else to moisten it, very dry. It just tasted of nothing! As for my chips they were not even cooked properly. Rushed and no effort, just awful! My wife had Ravioli which was equally as poor, no seasoning, and again packet ham, very randomly stirred though the sauce. Maybe the ham was an afterthought? Overall, a very disappointing meal. Sadly we won't be returning.

Luigis had been our go to restaurant for years. Having moved from the locale we were excited to book and revisit an old haunt after 5 years away. Whilst one couldn't say the food was bad, so when asked by the waiters if everything was OK.. that was what it was, just OK. No freebies like other guests have said... Not even bread sticks at the table, no tap water provided. Tomato garlic bread was v light on the garlic but Ok. Calamari v generous portion for a starter - big enough for 2 and Ok. Meat feast pizza - pepperoni, spicy salami, ham and bacon as described then drowned in bolognaise sauce rather than spicy beef. Turned the dish into a soggy bottom! Sea bass - again v generous portion but the plate was swimming in the lemon butter with a few cherry tomatoes and wilted rocker, unappertising presentation. Side salad of iceberg, cucumber, tomato, olives and rocket that had wilted. Cheesecake was lovely (bought in) and the zabaglione as good as I remembered. Wine by the glass is house or one other option. Service attentive and Covid rules followed. Sadly Ok is not good enough to have us return.

Visted here after an afternoon on the beach at filey & rung about 45 mins prior to the booking time of 6:45pm and phone was answered courtiously & proffesionally by young lady. On arrival, the car park was pretty busy which is a good sign. I havent been here for about 5 years and had forgotten what a stylish restaurant this is. Tables are well spaced out and staff wear face masks which is comforting at this present moment in time. My good lady ordered steak with chips and salad and i opted for my favourite- spinach & riccota canelloni. We ordered a sparkling water & lemonade & lime to wash this down. We were given a complimentary garlic & tomato flatbread to share as starter. This has to be the best garlic & tomato flatbread i have ever tasted. So full of flavour ! My canelloni was complimented by a nice salad of mixed green leaves, tomato & black olives. Her ladyships steak came nicely presented too with salad & chips on seperate plates. The spinach in my dish was coarsely cut, which i prefer to the finely minced version some restaurants present. We were also given bread & butter to add to all this. We fully enjoyed our meals and were about to put up the shutters but then asked for the dessert menu. I opted for a real lemon, scooped out & filled with lemon sorbet. This was so yummy. Even salvo montalbano would love this while my good lady had the mango & passion fruit dessert equally nice & presented. Well done luigis ! We will be back very soon. Why go into the city centre when this is right next to the poppleton park & ride.

Starter was whitebait which had been deep fried until burnt. Pizza Sofia was supposed to be a special sausage pizza. It was a basic pepperoni with a soggy base and dry crust. We visited this excellent Italian restaurant after a day at Newby Hall. The place was full (always a good sign) and full of atmosphere. Service was cheerful and efficient. I started with a rather sloppy pate which was not entirely to my liking although extremely flavoursome. My son reported that the Spicy Chicken Wings were tender and appetising. The mains were also excellent with a chicken, prawn and saffron risotto particularly noteworthy. All in all a very good meal and somewhere I can recommend without hesitation.

Luigi's is out of town next to a garden centre so has plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is big with lots of tables extending out into a conservatory. The staff were nice enough, not overly friendly but reasonably efficient. One was a little more than unkempt which put me off my food a bit. I was sat next to a radiator and I should never have looked into it....but I did, and wished I had not. It was filthy and made me wonder what the kitchen was like. Food was average but at least they offered gluten free options which was a bonus. The pasta arrabiata was ok if a bit bland. The pizza was okay. Lacking in ambience and quite expensive for the quality of the food, there are much better places to grab an Italian in York.

The food as usual was very good, I had the avacado and prawns which were delicious and then a four cheese pizza which was thin and perfectly crispy. After reading many of the reviews I have to say I was a little apprehensive about coming to Luigi's, but after my visit on Saturday, I can honestly say that I can't see why some people have been so critical.Luigi's doesn't claim that all its food is homemade or that it's got a romantic cosy atmosphere or that it's got a Michelin star or that it's comparable to Jamie's Italian. It just claims to be a good Italian restaurant, owned and run by Italian people. The interior might be viewed as being a little 'practical' - tiled floors, marble topped tables, bright lighting etc, but that's typical of most Italian restaurants (Sant Angelo in Wetherby and Piccolinos in Collingham being very similar). That is just the Italian style. We came here with our friends and their 8 year old daughter early in the evening. The staff couldn't have been friendlier or more accommodating and I was surprised at how busy the restaurant was considering it was only 6pm. We were seated in the back area, which whilst in a conservatory is still quite warm. On arrival we were given some tomato garlic bread to share which was really lovely. For a starter I ordered the mussels in tomato sauce and wow, was I impressed! The mussels were freshly prepared and there was absolutely loads - all of them open too! For a main I had the Rustic salad ( new years resolutions and all that) which had tuna, cannellini beans, croutons and lots of healthy veg - very nice, whilst the others on our table had pasta or pizza. The portions were generous enough and although the pasta wasn't homemade, the sauces received much praise. There were certainly no complaints! We didn't go for a dessert as we didn't have room. The bill came to £100 for 5 of us which includes starters, mains and two rounds of drinks.Luigi's is a great little restaurant in my opinion and is good for family groups and parties. The carpark outside means you can also escape the hustle and bustle and overpriced parking charges of York City Centre and it's also convenient for those with younger children and has good disabled access. We will no doubt return soon.

It would be usual to start a restaurant review by talking about the food, or maybe the ambience, or perhaps the service. I'll start instead with the owner, Luigi - because he was the most notable thing about our visit.Luigi is a showman, and he appears to love to be the centre of attention. He literally dances around his restaurant, and was very keen to know if it was anyone's birthday as, he explained, he was also the singer. One unfortunate perosn on another table did admit it was, and Luigi duly sang 'Happy Birthday'. In full, very loudly. And let's just say if you're Simon Cowell and reading this, don't bother to check him out.Oh and don't, whatever you do, express any liking for anywhere in Italy other than Sorrento. Northern Italy in particular is, apparently, not really Italy, and Sorrento the only place worth going. If you want to know why, Luigi will tell you. At length. In fact he will tell you whether you want to know or not. It's not that Luigi isn't a nice enough chap - he probably is, and he really does try and make you feel welcome; it's just that 'the Luigi show' gets a bit overpowering after a while if it's not your thing. And it wasn'tNow - the food. We tried this because of some god reviews, but to us it was very overrated. True the menu is enormous. Pages and pages of it. Which I'm afraid always worries me - is all this really freshly prepared, in a fairly small restaurant? Now I wasn't about to do the Gordon Ramsey thing and ask Luigi - I'm quite attached to my teeth - but I can only give you our opinion based on taste; and the answer would be 'No'. Much of it tasted like it was out of a packet. Perhaps it wasn't, but that was how it tasted to us. It had a blandness I would not expect in a good Italian restaurant. The experience isn't helped by the ambiance. Don't get me wrong, it's a pleasant enough place but it is, in effect, like eating in a conservatory. And just like eating in a conservatory it's probably very nice for lunch on a sunny day, but for a dinner in winter it lacked any feeling of cosyness or intimacy you often find in nicer Italian restaurants. I'm not damning the place. In fact if I wanted a group booking for a 'fun' night out it would be fine, with the wide menu choice and reasonable prices, and Luigi to 'entertain' you. But if you want a quiet private dinner with really good Italian food, there are in my opinion much better places. And you don't have to go to Sorrento to find them.Sorry Luigi, and I'm sure Sorrento really is wonderful....

Visited Luigi's first time for a family dinner, 8 of us, on Christmas Eve.Luigi's is a "real" Italian, with real Italians running the place. So they have the right DNA for it. Clientele were mainly locals and it was obvious a lot had been there before. Nice touch on arrival at the table was a big pizza style garlic bread with tomato sauce. Next best thing, ordered as a starter, was a rosemary foccacia, also pizza style. The food was all good (total 131 pounds) but the pizza, thin Italian style as it should be, is first rate. I saw a review complaining about the range of drinks, especially beers, which I don't think is really a fair criticism of an Italian (go to a pub!!). Much more important is the wine, and both the house red and white wines were good, especially enjoyed the red which went down very well. The atmosphere is family style, and I suspect this is what they do best. The lighting in the place could be improved (how about a dimmer switch?), and if you want a romantic dinner for two you're probably better off going into York. Surprisingly there are not so many good dining options north of York. This is definitely one of the best and would gladly go again. Final winning touch was a gift of panettone. Grazie Luigi!

We use this restaurant quite a bit as a family as the quality of the food and service is always good and consistent, using fresh ingredients which you can view from the tables - nothing to hide here and definitely no microwave meals here. A little more pricey than some Italian restaurants, but we feel its worth paying the little extra as its authentic and worth it. Family owned and run, not a high street chain so there is real pride from the staff. Its always worth booking, they can often squeeze two in with sometimes a little wait, but more than that, I would definitely book as its very popular. There is free parking outside so no hassle there either. If there is any let down, its the deserts - the choice is not as vast a some places, but there is often never much room left for a pudding as the starters and mains are all huge, delicious and filling.

Visited on Thursday evening, we were greeted ok and shown to our table. The starters were ok, and then we both had a chicken dish, when we tasted it we both said at the same time it was off, it tasted discusting. We complained to the waitress and she took it away. When she came back she said the cheff would take it up with the butcher, she then asked us to choose something else, which we both chose piza. We did think that the manager should have come over and apologised, and not just sent the waitress ( I would like to say here that the waitress was fantastic and served us well under the circumstances) When the bill came we thought that they would have waived the main course charge, and just charged us for the drinks and the starter, but they had not. I then spoke to the waitress about this, and she went to get the manager, who came over and straight away started shouting at me and would not listen, he said don't pay for anything and go. Well safe to say I will never go back, and at the end of the day he lost money as we was prepared to pay for everyhting else apart from the main whcih was around £30. I will also advise other people I know not to go back there. I don't expect to be shouted at and humiliated over bad food that was not my fault.

My sister and I live near the restaurant and thought we'd try it for lunch. As soon as we walked in I was disappointed. The restaurant was very quiet and a few members of staff were stood near the kitchen chatting. The staff didn't even bother to greet us or come over to seat us so we chose a table and sat down. It was at least 5 minutes before someone came over to ask what we wanted to drink. It also appeared like the staff were whispering and staring at us - made us feel very uneasy. There wasn't a lunch menu which we assumed there would be as the prices aren't cheap. My sister then wanted to choose a filled pasta dish from the specials menu which was pasta filled with goats cheese. Because my sister's pregnant she asked the waitress to check with the chef if the rind was cut off the goats cheese. The waitress then came back with an empty frozen plastic bag with the list of ingredients on! We could not believe it! Not only could we see that the restaurant didn't make its pasta dishes fresh and that they pre buy frozen filled pasta but the chef and waitress couldn't even be bothered to check themselves and gave it to us to do ourselves. Never before have I been anywhere that did this. All of the staff had 'can't be bothered attitudes'. The head waiter (maybe the owner) is a very unpleasant man who particularly made us feel unwelcome. I can at least say the pizza was nice but for a quiet restaurant at lunch time, I would advise the staff to be a lot friendlier as they have put off locals who would have revisited. Really terrible experience of an Italian restaurant which we expected to be a warm and friendly place which can't even be bothered to cook its pasta dishes fresh! Avoid avoid avoid! Much nicer Italians in York. Not worth the money.

Have been meaning to go and try this place for a while. Tour de france out of the way, Yorkshire show finished here we go.Truly very disappointing, service was good, but the food absolutely tasteless.Pasta starter was barely warm enough, the tomato sauce was totally without any taste.Main was a spicey pizza with no spice, truly tasteless again. Wife had raviola which againwas bland and a waste of time eating, so very poor. Not cheap and certainly not worth a visit.

Thank goodness for a "real" Itlaian family business - so friendly, lively atmosphere, great food. Nice to find a restaurant on the outskirts of York with a City Centre vibe and easy parking too!

We've visited here a few times and the food has never disappointed. The garlic bread starter is yummy. The Calzone is huge and tasty. My lasagne was very nice, but it is a very large portion. Only drawback to this restaurant is parking, especially due to the massive roadworks on their doorstep at the moment.

Had a family meal here and we were made to feel very welcome on arrival and service continued to be of a good standard. It had a good choice of wine and the food was plentiful and tasty. The atmosphere was very authentic Italian lots of noise and laughter and friendly service. If I was to give any negative points it was the use of processed ham in the meals, in an italian restaurant it would my nice to have a more authentic choice of quality meats. The sardine starter was very nice and the calzone were large and tasty. Thank-you Luigi's for a nice evening.

My wife and I thought we would treat our respective Mum's to dinner at Luigi's on Mother's Day. We had booked a table for 6.30 pm and turned up at 6.25 pm. We were greeted by throngs of people blocking the doorway, the bar and the entrance vestibule. At first we thought this was ok as possibly people had turned up slightly early like us and were waiting. This was not the case - some people were booked in for 6 pm and were still not seated. When we approached a member of staff we mentioned we had a table booked for 6.30 pm and were told we would have a 30 minute wait. We didn't give a name, so could have simply walked off the street and claimed to have a table booked. It seemed a little shambolic! At this point I thought that maybe we would be offered a drink as we would be stood waiting but this was not the case. After 45 minutes, and having bought a round of drinks we were shown to a table. Then we sat and waited for our order to be taken. Eventually after trying to catch someone's eye we ordered and the food came relatively quickly. The food itself was very nice and the poor review doesn't reflect the food. The table next to us had placed their food order at the same time as us and yet we'd finished our meal and they still hadn't received theirs. They asked a member of staff, who seemed disinterested, and they found out their order had been lost. There was no real apology and only after speaking to a senior person did they get a free basil and mozzarella dish to keep them going!! Meanwhile we were waiting to order dessert and kept asking waiting staff to no avail. Finally someone bought some menus and we ordered. When the food came the order was wrong. When we pointed this out we were looked at with suspicion and were made to feel as if it was us in the wrong. Eventually they took the dish that was wrong back and we waited for the replacement. After 5 minutes we asked another member of staff and they went to check. It was simply a piece of tiramisu from the fridge, it wasn't as if it needed cooking or heating up, however it took about 7 minutes in total to get the replacement. Again, no apology! Whilst we were eating dessert the staff were relaying the table next to us. They slammed the table against ours and then pulled it back again - quite why I do not know. A trainee was then laying the table, wrongly as it turned out as a more senior member of staff was openly berating him. Overall the experience was neither relaxing or enjoyable and as it was meant to be a treat for our Mums we felt embarrassed by the whole thing. Like I said previously the food was very nice but the service simply let the whole experience down. If the manager had encouraged his staff to simply apologise for the fact they'd over-booked it would have made the experience more bearable but this simple lack of customer care has left a very poor taste in my mouth - I won't be returning!

On a visit to friends we decided to head out of town and passing Luigis previous, we decided to book party of 8 midweek. Very low on staff was first thing noticed. Was seated quickly polite member of staff. View of kitchen. We had just sat down when drink menu was thrust at us and then asked what we wanted to drink, which we hadn't digested the wine menu. Quite rude waiter, nearly knocking over drink and spilling hot soup on a minor. Understand, under staff but you don't take it out on your customers, unprofessional approach.Food was bland, 3 had mussels with majority not open fully if at all. Main courses were below par, 2 had veal and very rubbery and Palma ham took the creamyNess away. Sides were ok. fillet Steak ordered medium rare came well done. Pasta ravioli was nice. Desserts were the best. However staff changed after 3rd bottle Barolo was ordered. So, don't rush to Poppleton for an Italian.

Luigi's is a firm favourite of mine, and having been many times I can say that the service and food are always just as good. If you're looking for a very reasonably priced Italian and some home cooking then Luigi's beats Pizza Express any day. More choice and better-quality food. They're also great with kids so this is perfect for groups of friends, couples or families. It's also always busy, so book ahead!

This was the third visit in a row that Luigis has disappointed so it was time for a review. My daughter and I visited for lunch on a Tuesday this month. The service was fine, but the food was horrible, as it has been for several visits. Luigis pizzas are nice, but I didn't want a pizza. Having found their pasta dishes and salad of the season unappetising on recent visits, I went for a meat special. It was not cheap at £13, and it was awful. Chicken breast (ok) topped with ham (like the processed square stuff you get in a tub in a supermarket) and cheese (two squares of cheese slice), in a white wine sauce (tasted sweet and sickly and not of wine). My daughters pizza was ok. I wish they would change the menu too, so boring, old fashioned and totally unoriginal. I'd rather go into town now for a more contemporary and better quality Italian meal. That was certainly our last visit to Luigis.

This was the first time I have visited this restaurant, but everyone else in our party had previously been and raved about it - I wasn't dissapointed.Really easy to get to (just off the A59) and with plenty of parking, it is an imposing building with a welcoming feel.We had reserved a table, so were seated immediately by the attentive staff. The drinks and food followed very quickly - we were certainly well looked after. The food was great and they serve really generous portions here, so my advice is to arrive here hungry!!The only point I did notice though was that it was particularly quiet for a Friday night - school holidays maybe........anyway, we will be back.

Visited this restaurant on 5 October, to meet with friends we had not seen for some time.On arrival there was no front of house to meet, greet and welcome or anybody serving at the bar to take the drinks. So we stood and waited for at least five minutes. The restaurant whilst busy appeared disorganised with tables so close to one another it was uncomfortable. It was difficult to know who was the maître de. Not one employee looked happy to be serving the customer. The food took forever to arrive and when it did the risotto was bland. The drinks were forgotten on two occasions and the bill took forever to arrive.Coffee was served and not even a chocolate to accompany it - surely that small cost can be absorbed. Not one member of the staff that evening asked if everything was okay with the meal/service or if there was anything else they could get for us.Unacceptable - we will not be back.

Having visited a few times in the past it is a shame to say that it has gone downhill.... however it has! Having booked a table for 8.15 we were made to wait until 8.45 before sitting down which we wouldnt of usually minded had they simply apologised for the wait! The starter was nice however the main was very bland and tasteless!....then to top things off we had to ask a couple of times for the bill, which ended up being wrong and we were almost charged for an extra two dishes. safe to say we wont be back in a hurry!

Had the misfortune to visit on one of the hottest evenings which took the shine off a very good meal. Very hot and sticky, no air con or even a fan in evidence, so didn't enjoy the food as much as we would have done normally. No complaints at all, good menu and friendly service, which made us feel welcome. My wife enjoyed the calamari for a starter, saying it was among the best she had ever tasted. Portions were generous and well presented. The ice cream we consumed to cool us down was excellent, which is from Turin I believe. Can't wait to go back in the autumn when it cools down a little.

I'd heard great things about this place so went along on a Saturday night. We were seated quickly, and I ordered the garlic creamy mushrooms starter, I was disappointed when it came as the sauce was like water it was that runny, not a nice consistency. I did think it was a good idea they do small size versions of their pizzas, I ordered the tuna one but requested it to not come with the onions it said it did on the menu, then when it came it had onions all over it. Little things like that would put me off returning to a place. The guy I assume was the boss spent the whole evening just hovering around the tables not serving just watching and I felt sorry for his staff and it didnt create a nice atmosphere. I wouldn't hurry back.

Having visited on several occasions we were very disappointed with the service. Midweek and fairly busy but not full. Food was good but service very slow. Waiter had to ask us if we'd had our starter, then a long wait before main course. In the meantime we were just left without drinks and had to go to the bar to order more. When main course arrived were asked if we would like mozzarella but this didn't arrive. Finally my daughter asked if she could have her remaining pizza wrapped to be greeted with a dirty look and no response from the waiter. However, It was wrapped and returned. Disappointing and won't rush back.

I have eaten a number of times at Luigi's either as part of a couple or foursome and knew that the standard of both the food and service would be good. This is why I chose Luigi's as the venue for my Mother's 90th birthday celebration, a family gathering of 13 of us. This included a wide range of ages and tastes including a garlic allergy and a coeliac (gluten intolerant). Everyone was happy with their food, which was adapted to suit individual tastes, freshly cooked and arrived all together and with no drama (this is something which would not even merit a comment, if other restaurants were all as well run as Luigi's).Service was perfect. There whenever needed them and we were never rushed (in fact I had not even noticed that the restaurant had closed for the afternoon). Our waitress even took some group photo's for us outside. We each had two courses plus wine and a slice of lovely chocolate birthday cake. It worked out about £26 a head, which I think was very good value for money.Highly recommended.

I had calzone chicken and my husband had the scollops. Our friend had a vegetarian pizza. All the meals were lovely and nicely presented. We were full and could not manage desserts but they looked amazing. A bit off the beaten track and you would not know it was there if you weren't being taken to it but what a find! I came on here to review this restaurant and was quite shocked to read the previous 5* reviews. My friend and I had lunch here today, and arrived just after 12.15. Okay the place was just about empty, one other couple at a table, but even though we were given a table by the radiators (must have seen immediately that I was a southern wimp) it didn't have any kind of warmth or ambience at all. We were welcomed warmly, yes, our drinks came quickly, as did our food, but I have to say that my freshly baked pizza resembled a fossilised dustbin lid which even my serrated knife had difficulty sawing through. The staff were lovely and friendly but it just didn't do it for me. Maybe I was expecting too much. Three glasses of wine, two plain coffees and two middle of the range, simple pizzas, cost £35. Maybe it was a slow day....

Recently had dinner at Luigi's just outside York and all I can say is save your money and avoid. This is a basic restaurant which is fine but what is not fine is the very poor quality of food and its not cheap ! Example I had avocado and tuna for starter at over £7 which consisted of just an avocado cut in half and the stone taken out with a little tuna mayo on top, no effort in presentation what so ever, main course of veal was inedible, although to be fair the accompanying vegetables were well cooked. The house wine was also undrinkable so if you do go stick to Peroni!. Its such a shame as the place was busy and I guess that as they know they will fill the tables anyway that they can charge what they want then serve up rubbish. Honestly for a special occasion or in fact for any reason at all go somewhere else as all they are interested in is the profit margins, not food or service. York has far more to offer than this......
