ZHUG in Nottingham

I was so happy to find a Lebanese cuisine until i visited today but unfortunately the restaurant is far from a mediterranean kitchen and philosophy. What they call as Gyros is just thigh pieces fried. Chewy and tasteless. Side salad is just some lettuce and onion. Rice is from the cheapest brand. Can you believe you eat so call authentic food but no trace of olive oil!!! No way. Falafel is the same, slightly better. Hummus is okay but too little. Portions are small, taste is just above a standard take away but the prices are as if you eat in a good restaurant. + %service charge while you need to go to the bar and order there. They dont take orders at the table. There are so many things to say however in a Nutshell, a fake Lebanese. Some midrange decoration and instagram ads. PLEASE SPEND SOME MONEY FOR BETTER INGRIDIENTS. DONT FOOL PEOPLE JUST BECAUSE THEY cannot UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCE.

Had an amazing birthday meal at Zhug! I would definately return and recommend the Speciality Hummus, Gambas, and the Rose Meringue to anyone visiting 😋

The best meal I’ve ever had in my entire life. I am super serious. If you don’t eat here you have wasted your time on this planet.

Food was lovely - had the Gyros chicken pitta. Unfortunately side order of fries was forgotten despite us being the only people there and so had almost finished eating before they arrived.

Incredible high quality food that offers something different to its neighbours. The staff are friendly, welcoming and effortless with helping to accommodate our party of 8, from kids to grandparents as well as helping with vegan options 💚 Will definitely be back after this first visit.

One of our new favourite spots! And really vegan friendly. Couldn’t see any vegan desserts on the menu but they put one together for me so I could join in with my family. 10/10

This is my 5th time visiting Zhug and it has become one of my favourite restaurants! Food is always amazing and such lovely and friendly staff and quick service!

Stumbled across Zhug accidentally. Service was on point, the guys working her are super friendly! Food’s absolutely stunning, really impressed that Nottingham’s finally got a decent Lebanese restaurant. Final point, and if you have a sweet tooth, the baklava is bangin’!

It’s okay. Had the falafel “platter” that was basically just 4 falafel balls and a few pieces of cheap veggies and loads of rice. They skimped on the sauces, just barely drizzling tzatziki with basically a tablespoon of Zhug on the side. Definitely not worth the 15 quid. Flavor of falafel was good though. Wouldn’t recommend the platters, but the pitas looked okay. Interior is a cute industrial vibe, but really loud.

Came here for our joint birthday meal and had such a fun and cosy evening. The food is really tasty and served hot. The service is friendly and helpful. The restaurant is relatively calm and has a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely go back!

The food is really nice but unfortunately the service is really poor. There were only 3 tables at the start of the night and plenty of staff but they didn’t seem interested in taking our order for an age. No one checked back and we wanted extra pitta so had to get someone’s attention. We only had one drink but if we were asked we would have ordered another. We were also asked if we wanted a dessert, asked for the menu and it never came so didn’t bother. This is lost revenue. Then getting the bill took an age and trying to pay after that. The staff don’t seem attentive to what’s going on which lets the experience down unfortunately. Kind of felt like an inconvenience. In a market dominated by great eateries people vote with their feet. So much potential here though the food was fab.

Me and my wife ate here with our 18 month old daughter. She loved it, they were very accommodating and friendly. The food was also very flavourful and didn’t take long at all from the kitchen too the table.

We have eaten in and more often take away excellent Pittas. Outside and inside tables are simple and the service is excellent. The menu is extensive. Everything is clean and fresh.

The food was good. The service was pretty slow though. Had to try really hard to get the staff’s attention to even get some tap water!

The food was one of the best takeouts we’ve had in a long time, and certainly the best Mediterranean locally!

The food was nice albeit not very hot but i felt that the portions were small for the price. For example the loaded fries were very small and not suitable for sharing. We found the service to be poor in general. For example no cutlery on our table even by the time our food arrived even though we'd booked ahead. My first drink order was wrong but was quickly rectified however my friend ordered a mojito that really did taste like lime water but they refused to rectify it or offer an alternate drink which was disappointing considering the price of a cocktail. I think maybe we just had a bad night but I wouldn't rush to return or recommend friends sorry.

Only thing hot was the salad, somehow. Some nice flavours however the food was cold on arrival. The rice reminded me of microwave packet rice, that hadn't been heated up properly. Not worth the high price for a meal.

Spotted this restaurant on instagram and couldn’t wait to visit.. however the restaurant was chilly and at least half the diners kept their outside jackets on. The food has all the right elements in place - fresh, vibrant, well presented and tasty but the Lebanese chicken within my fluffy pitta albeit cooked was cold, the knafeh rather than the menu’s description of taking 15 mins to arrive, was on the table in 5 mins and instead of the stringy gooeyness portrayed on insta was at minimum lukewarm and had to be cut with a knife.. I can’t speak for everyone but when a service charge is added to my bill it suggests that I should’ve at the least, had a hot meal in a warm restaurant.

Unbelievable…. This place is the bomb! The food was fresh and cooked to order the bread made in house for the pitta was so soft and fresh it brought you to the next level! The only downside is there isn’t one near me … a neighbourhood great.

As a family of food lovers we love supporting authentic places. You won’t be disappointed . A great range on the menu all ours were delicious, lovely staff, friendly and busy without any stress. Definitely worth the trip.

Absolutely brilliant fab food and great service

Absolute waste of time! Far too many tables for the size of the room, clearly not enough staff on shift (3 floor and 1 bar for a full restaurant on a friday!), incredibly long wait times both for orders to be taken and for food to arrive. A waiter told us twice that he would be with us in a moment and said our food with be with us in a few minutes, and we were left waiting each time. We ordered 2 drinks together and they arrived separately (obviously not a huge deal but with everything else it was just another sign of bad service and no organisation). Over an hour and 20 minutes later when our food arrived it was simply boring. Dry lamb, bland vegetables, unseasoned fries, cold untoasted store bought pitta and overcooked dry falafel on a bed of undressed flavourless shredded lettuce. Tables that were seated after us were eating before us. We had to flag down staff every single time rather than having an assigned waiter checking on us. As a waitress myself I would be completely embarrassed by every part of the service given but I do not blame the floor staff as they were clearly overbooked and understaffed. There was no sign of a manager in control of the situation. When given the bill they had the cheek to add on a service charge after not even doing simple acts of service like taking orders in a timely manner, checking back on the food or pouring wine. Overall it was a complete waste of our evening.

We waited an hour for our food and drinks orders to get taken, our food arrived an hour and a half after we sat down. Servers ignored us but the table next to us, which was sat after us, was served free drinks for the lack of service they had, gave free deserts and served this table food before me and girlfriend as we watched this with an empty table and empty glasses. Overall the dining experience was horrendous, the dining area was over subscribed with guests and the servers really struggled to walk between tables - there was no flow or organisation with regards to service. The kitchen seemed highly inexperienced with no communication or leadership - the open kitchen made this clear. The food was bland and not hot - in spice and temperature. The hummus was perhaps the only redeemable dish we had but even then it was nothing special. To summarise, distinctly average food for its price, and certainly not its service. I’d like to return in the next few months to see if anything gets better but every angle of this restaurant needs to be improved on.

We ordered for collection tonight and the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and our 4-year old. Really polite and patient and the food was delicious. Thanks to all the staff

Really lovely first experience eating at Zhug. We were spoilt for choice with the menu and the food we did order was delicious. The flavours were amazing and the food came to the table quickly. Staff were friendly and attentive. We will be back!

Lovely meal with friends after work. Took a while to get served and some bits if the order was missed or wrong. However the food is lovely and atmosphere was great. In its defense it was busy and they had a new staff member. Eat here often and it was a one off.

4.5 stars ⭐️ First time visiting ZHUG and the food was delicious. We ordered the cheezy gyros chicken and the mediterranean lamb, however, the gyros chicken had very little meat and it was mostly fries and cheese which was a little disappointing for the price point. The chicken that it did come with was absolutely delicious, so it would’ve been lovely to have some more! We were accidentally brought a halloumi pitta (main) instead of the halloumi fries (side) that we ordered, however staff were very generous and offered us to have this at no extra cost. The restaurant has a cosy, neighborhood atmosphere with friendly and welcoming staff. We would definitely return to ZHUG!

First visit to Zhug today at lunchtime. Lovely atmosphere and restaurant. The food was all delicious, fresh and well cooked. We had two main meals an extra side and two drinks which came to about £50. We'll definitely be recommending and returning!

Found this on insta and loved the content have been waiting to come. So worth the wait! Gorgeous. Only downside is the hummus wasn’t available and we would have had to wait so will save that for next time!!

My wife and I went for lunch today and the overall experience was great. They accommodated our request to ‘deconstruct’ a pita dish and the service was spot on. Food was delicious and fresh. Would recommend to visit.

As usual, food was delish, servings (pita fillings) were generous, & the staff, both waiting & in the kitchen, were friendly yet professional. The Mediterranean chicken meal was on point & my partner enjoyed her halloumi pitta. The sweet potato fries were crispy, yum. Definitely coming back. Again. And again.

Lovely, calm setting in a busy thoroughfare, with delicious fresh food and a well-stocked bar. Heaven!

Lovely food but quite expensive given the portion size. I was served the wrong cocktail which was also pretty small given the price. The restaurant was busy and bustling but unfortunately this meant that we were let down by the service. Waited over 45 minutes after we had finished to be offered more drinks or dessert/coffee or just to be offered the bill. In the end, we had to call the waiter over twice before we eventually got the bill. The waiter was very apologetic but did not offer a good will gesture which I felt was disappointing given how reasonable we had been regarding the drink mix-up and the poor service.

Food is super fresh, healthy and tasty. Great place, great service.
