Zen in Cotswold

It was discussing first time ever we had a bad meal from there it was so overcooked it was hard I could of used it as a hammer prawn balls hard to hard to cut and full of oil unedable chicken balls hard and discusting spring rolls full of oil and crispy inside unetable

Prices gone up, ingredients gone down I ordered Singapore chow mien It was just all noodles , no spice or even a kick They need a kick up the Arse , shocking 😲

Beautiful, Amazing, Spectacular! probably one of the best chinese takeaway restaurants we have eaten at ever and we have tried many. Food was fresh, hot and tasty. The best cantonese sweet & sour chicken! The children ate all of their food! Delivery was great, ordered via One-delivery we had continual notification and could track our delivery. The delivery guy was very friendly. Every time we are in Cotswolds we will be eating here. It's a must!

Food was tasty, quick coming out so no much waiting time, friendly staff, and good prices, i would definitely recommend!

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Zen's Chinese Takeaway. My food never arrived, and when I contacted them, I was immediately accused of theft and fraud. I asked for proof of delivery from the driver, which they couldn't provide. After that, they stopped replying to me altogether. I'm now seeking legal options as the company owes me £42. This is unacceptable, and I would not recommend Zen's Chinese Takeaway to anyone. AVOID

Online and the menu said they opened at 4pm. We arrived at 4 and waited until 4:42. Nobody turned up. It was a Wednesday too so they should have been opened. If you have opening times. STICK TO THEM

Very good range of tasty food which is always good value due to the taste and large portions. We always seem to have food left for the next day!

Busy little local Chinese takeaway! They only take cash so make sure you have some. Very reasonably priced and very tasty roast duck and lots of pancakes given! We also ordered the chicken with black bean sauce and a spring roll which was the biggest spring roll i’ve ever seen! Egg fried rice was decent as well as a chicken and mushroom curry. Not disappointing and would eat here again, pretty quick turnaround. Thank you!

Ive been getting my Chinese takeaway from Zen for more than ten years now and, especially compared to the dismal offerings elsewhere in town, the food here is always colourful, tasty, fresh and delicious. Always perfectly prepared and they will even take requests within reason - i always ask them to debone and shred the Crispy Duck (which is superb) for me, which they do without hesitation. Soups are great, especially the Hot & Sour. Pancake rolls are enormous and packed with beansprouts, shrimp and Char Sui. The House Special Fried rice is a high point - a large container of tasty rice under thick layer of Char Sui, beef, chicken, king prawns and mixed vegetables in a tasty sauce. Singapore chow mein is fragrant and slightly spicy, their Beef in Oyster Sauce is a perfect example of umami at work and that old classic, chicken chow mein, is still executed wonderfully, a balance of tender chicken, beansprouts (that still have a little crunch) and noodles, a hint of garlic and translucent, caramelised onions. I cant say enough good things about Zen - possibly my favourite takeaway, ever. Oh...the staff are always consistently friendly, polite and keen to try to accomodate any requests you might have, although Nicholas is very missed! 😊 Edit - please note that they don’t currently deliver, although they are affiliated to Ubereats and they currently only accept cash. There’s a cash machine in the corner shop a few doors up, if you get caught out, which is open until 8pm, I think.

First time for us and everything we ordered was piping hot, plentiful and really delicious, we will definitely use again.

Just enjoyed our set meal (C) for two. All the dishes were tasty. If we weren’t here on holiday I’d definitely use this establishment again. Only issue is parking outside the take away but everyone else was parked on the double yellow lines so I did the same - didn’t have to wait long as had ordered by phone.

As usuall saterdays takeaway was as good as ever, but while waiting for my meal people were coming into the shop without a mask and nothing was said. signs were up asking people to wear them so why wasnt it enforced. Sadly this has put me off visiting in this current climate , shame food is good but im not supporting you if you cant enforce the rules.

Always a fantastic meal... repeat customers... ive eaten Chinese all over the country and this is one of the best takeaways I've had! We regularly order for the office and will do 20-30 orders in one night! Highly recommend!

I was sad and disappointed in the quality of the food. Even the fortune cookies was not nice, had no flavour.

Quedarse en la zona de vacaciones y estaba buscando comida china para llevar y este era el más cercano. La señora detrás del mostrador no nos entendió muy bien, pero logramos hacer nuestro pedido. Pedimos pollo y patatas fritas, ternera agridulce con patatas fritas y rollitos de primavera de pato. Llegó a los 15. Efectivo solo aquí. Regresé al albergue de vacaciones solo para encontrar ninguna ficha. El pollo era la mitad de un pájaro muy pequeño que había sido arrojado a la freidora y la porción de rollitos de primavera era pequeña para el precio. La salsa en un plato de ternera era como un almíbar y muy dulce. Muy decepcionante. Es irritante volver a nuestra cabaña y encontrar que faltaba la mitad de la comida. Cantidad ridícula de comida por el precio. ¡Mantenerse claro!

What can I say apart from the fact that I have literally had thicker cup a soups, the beef curry was average at best, but boy watering is a compliment, probably the worst I've had, take yourself to marks kitchen in town far better, if not a supermarket one would still be nicer than this slop, my last visit here

Man serving had greasy hair and looked unclean, was rude and more obsessed with his phone than the customers. The waiting area was filthy dirty, shabby and in disrepair. As for the food it was just disgusting. We are not from this area and can not understand how this business has survived in this lovely village. If I lived locally I would encourage everyone to boycott this disgusting food outlet.

I visit two Chinese takeaways in Cirencester for different dishes and this is one. The parking and access (up a deep step and in through a glass door) are less than ideal, the decor is pretty dreadful and any magazines tend to be tatty and dog-eared. The clientele occasionally a tad more down at heel than it's smarter competitor. The people are kind, when I feel down between the kerb outside and my car in the dark a few years ago and couldn't get up (I wasn't drunk, I have MS) a passerby helped me into my car and the man serving in the takeaway insisted on cooking me a fresh batch of food which he handed to me in the car. Sometimes, as tonight I sent a taxi to collect my food (T4 are helpful for this and it was Lawrence who originally reccomended the place to me many years ago on the strength of it's salt and pepper chicken wings). My favourite dishes here are the salt and pepper King prawns which are fresh and in a light batter. (Though either I was extra hungry or the portion sizes seem to have shrunk a bit. The salt and pepper chicken wings are nice, as is the duck, all the standards are pretty good. Though the choice would be enhanced with a lack of green vegetables, and a drier, more consistant chilli beef on the whole I am happy if not over-awed. The fortune cookie alternative to greasy prawn crackers on request is a nice touch. I generally recommend it and it is reasonably priced with orders fulfilled with care and attention.

We have been to zen a few times & the last time was awful, so thought we would give it one more try. This time was even worse! The chicken was just mush & I literally had to spit it out, it made me gag! Will never go back ever again.

Me and my partner stopped near Cirencester today and really fancied a Chinese, I looked up some local ones which was Zen and read the reviews from this site which were good. As we was eating the food we discovered that the chips were not fit for seagulls, the chicken (in the curry) was like jelly and not cooked enough, the chicken balls were not cooked enough, noodles were dry and the prawn crackers were slightly stale. I should have turned around when I saw how grotty the place looked inside, I looked for a Hygiene certificate but could not find one...I wonder why?! If I had to give them a positive it would be that I didn't have to wait too long...kind of explains why the food wasn't cook to basic standards. I am only putting a review on here as I wouldn't like to imagine another poor soul having the same poor quality food we had. I would not recommend going here at all, McDonalds is just around the corner.

Food was OK but very bland not as good as other Chinese takeaways from where I am from. Food was hot and you got plenty of it but it's was very bland and the quality of the chicken was pretty poor.

I have been using this takeaway for several years. Food always hot and tasty. Can get a bit expensive if you over-order. (then again, leftovers good for next day!). Best Chinese in town. Staff always polite which is a bonus.

We've used this takeaway for years while we stay nearby for the airshow at RAF Fairford. We were concerned to hear that it was under new ownership and even more concerned at the negative reviews on here. We need not have worried though, because both the food and service were as excellent as before on all 6 nights we visited. Highly recommended.

Was our Chinese of choice for years but recent meals have fallen well below the standard of the previous owners - in particular sticky fried rice and lower standard of ingredients in main dishes. Sorry, I regret leaving a poor review but it is based on years of purchasing meals bought there and we have given the new owners 4 or 5 opportunities to impress us but that has not happened. One suggestion - the counter chap needs to wash his hair and smarten up, 1st impressions count but I have not allowed that to influence this review.

Quite simply the worst Chinese I have ever had. I had the chrispy duck and the cucumber was rotten to the point where it was a solid lump of green s**t in the Tupperware. The duck was as soft as a wet fish and the source was watered down mucus.then I had the sweat and sour chicken which was just a disgrace as it also had formed into a cogeled mess that resembled a giant sneeze. I can't explain how truly disgusting the whole experience was but I think the place needs to be shut down and the chef band from the kitchen. Please if you love Chinese and yoyothink this is your only option go to m&s and get a ready made meal.if you find yourself in Zen run like ****

There are a lot of take always in the area this is a good one, menue the same as most , price the same as most but the most important the quality of the good is spot on.

Never had a bad meal from here; always tasty and well prepared. They never get the order wrong which makes a nice change these days.

I feel this takeaway has gone downhill recently, persuaded by my other half to give it another shot. The plain chow mein was tasty enough, but Duck in plum sauce was presented with sliced carrots and a huge amount of ? Pineapple pieces? - not a plum flavour in sight

me and my wife get takeaway usually once a week from zen and we are always greeted with a smile and lovely food

Food I had this evening was absolutely awful & disgusting . There just was not any flavour what so ever .It would of been far better if I had eaten a cardboard box. I feel very angry that I spent my money at Zen on food that was not edible .It is now in the bin .I was tempted to take it back and ask them to taste it and tell me if they think that what they are serving is acceptable.I have previously had takeaways which have been lovely from Zen . This has definitely put me off Zen and I wont be buying from them again.

The last few time I have tried this takeaway my group and I ended up with severe food poisoning. Though the food was freshly cooked within an hour of eating it the vomiting started and the diarrhoea followed very shortly with severe stomach pain. If you want to get revenge on an enemy, recommend this takeaway. You may even get to see Chinese hardcore pornography on the TV that is in the waiting area. Not good at all.

We very rarely have a Chinese takeaway. That's because they're usually uninspiring and unappetizing, with bright orange or glutinous, congealed sauces and unidentifiable meat. Zen is a really good find. I am so glad we tried them because finally we might be able to have Chinese more often.The food looked and tasted freshly cooked. None of the meals had glutinous sauces and none were luminous! The chicken was absolutely lovely and definitely good quality. Well done, Zen, you've restored my faith in Chinese takeaways.

We have used Zen many, many times and have yet to be let down. Their fixed meal options offer a great range and the food is very well cooked and prepared. Never greasy, full of flavor and well priced too.

Prompted by the rave reviews - albeit from some months ago - we had a takeaway from Zen. On the positive side the crispy duck was excellent and if we had stopped at that, our review would have been different. Sadly we found the rest of the food bland and tasteless. This is a shame because I am sure that they mean well, there was plenty of food and the guy who took the order was friendly and efficient. Lets hope that this was just a blip.

This has to be one of the best takeaways in the UK. The food is reasonably priced. However the food is out of this world!!! Even if you want something that is off menu or you want something changing slightly.... it seems like no issue for this place. The Gentleman who takes the orders is always friendly and very chirpy!! If you are in the area, Zens is a must!!!!

Without a doubt the finest Chinese takeaway I live only 5 minutes from a Chinese takeaway but I will always travel 20 miles to get from Zen instead. They have the most friendly person serving. Highly highly recommended!!!

If you like Crispy Duck this is the place to get it. Also, the Singapore (rice) noodles are absolutely delicious too. I used to live in Cirencester and only return once or twice a year and never without a takeaway from Zen! During my recent visit early October, I had Crispy Duck and other Chinese food from a completely different part of the UK and there was no comparison to Zen - it is the best. They are also friendly in taking and handing over your order.
