Zara Indian Cuisine in Maldon

We got a takeaway from here while staying at a nearby caravan park. The food was still hot when we sat down to eat and was full of flavours. Definitely worth a visit.

We have been there a number of times know and it's all been good but on the last time on Sunday night with friends it was very poor the food was not up to usual standard and the waiters didn't look like they were interested in there customers literally just through the cutlery and food on the table and we expect a lot more than that as this was not a cheap night.

I can definitely say that this is one of the best Indian restaurant for flavors that i have been to in many years. I have tried many dishes here and all are just mouth watering and the flavors are just out of this world, The staff are very friendly and welcoming too.

The food and service were great! A really enjoyable meal, sad that it’s not around the corner to us as this would definitely be our go to place! Currently on holiday in Steeple Bay. Value for money! 10/10

We have eaten here before and enjoyed it so we thought we'd return, but.... having seen their hugely increased prices we have now booked elsewhere. They have lost our custom and will probably lose a lot more going forward as they are now surely the most expensive Indian restaurant in the Dengie.

Had a takeaway for two, the price of the meals in the old menu was 45 pounds when I picked the meals up they charged me 54 pounds, the price for my main meal alone had gone up from 13.50 to 16.95 , the food was as usual very good but i am afraid they are gonna lose business if they continue to treat their customers like this.

Had my usual takeaway Which normally costs me £26 this week it cost me £32. That's 25% increase. The reason I was given was the price of chicken has gone up. Considering iam a vegetarian and we only had one chicken main meal that must have been a very expensive bit of chicken. The food was it's usually high standard but not worth the much higher price. Now looking for a new takeaway.

Had a take away from this restaurant, the food was excellent compared to some of the crap we have had from burnham indians . Thoroughly recommend the mayland mill.

Booked a table for 7:30 for 6 although there were 7 of us on the night, got sat down at the table at 8, waited until 9:15/9:30 for food which was brought after we expressed our dissatisfaction, the waiter basically threw our dishes wherever he could then left us to sort out who’s dish was who’s. Took 30 mins to get a drink at the table after asking 2 waiters, they seemed more interested in clearing tables and polishing cutlery. Also waiter couldn’t understand what we were asking for so instead of getting someone that could understand just ignored our requests. Food was nice when it finally arrived but service was abysmal and for this reason we will not be revisiting. They’re more interested in getting more people in and seated than looking after the people that are already seated.

We have been to zar a many times and food is always excellent the staff are friendly and efficient. It is in maylan d mill and has been there for 12 years at least. We do try other india n restaurants but always return to zar a It is the best in the area

Really love Zara’s restaurant. Service is great, and food is consistently good. Tandoori chicken tikka is always soft and succulent (the tandoor chef needs a medal).

Every time I've been here the food has been great,fresh tasting ingredients,and cold cobra on tap. Perfect.

Recently moved to latchingdon and just had our first meal and it won’t be the last , excellent staff and excellent food too , keep up the good work ,will be back soon

We went here on a Saturday night without booking and were seated very quickly. The young man that was serving us was very polite and gave very good service. The food was very nice and well portioned. Great Indian food. Will visit again.

we should have read the warning signs from the start!. The person taking our order was so unprofessional, talking and laughing with someone else! put on hold 3 times! waited over an hour and 10 mins for delivery! spent over £45 and no complimentary anything!!! food was bland and sparse! never again!!

Grabbed a takeout from here to bring home to the family. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. We are Indians and cool mostly Indian food at home so getting a take out is rare. Food was of quality standard although the menu is a typical Bengali style restaurant with your usual tikka masala, madras etc. You can go for more authentic Indian cuisine by selecting dishes such as tarka daal and aloo gobi. Good service and food prepared fresh on order, will definitely use again

Came here at lunch for the Sunday Buffet and the food and service were great I could not fault them I even got a candle on my ice cream.

Despite living just in the next village, this was our first visit and most definitely wont be our last. The chicken tikka was perfectly cooked, not wet and rubbery inside like a lot of places but not dry either, just perfect. In fact my teenage son said it was the best he had ever tasted (high praise indeed from a particularly fussy eater). Madras was sweet and hot and spicy in exactly the right mix, hubby was very impressed. My chicken tikka biriyani was amazing and I even loved the veg curry that comes with it and I never eat veg!! and the onion bahjee's are without doubt the best I have ever tasted.

Went here for lunch on Sunday with my daughter and son-in-law. The choice of the buffet is a culinary delight! Fresh and hot. Warm plates are put out for you when you arrive. My all time favourite Indian restaurant - the boys are always courteous, prompt and can't do enough for you. See you soon Zara!

We ate here last night but have been many times before.It is one of my 2 favourite Indians in the area (the other being Curry Nights in Maldon).The food here is always of the highest quality but they are very slow when they have more than 3 tables going.The management has changed since our previous visit but it was still slow service albeit they were full.If service speed improves I may post an updated review

A good choice of dishes available and the food was fresh and hot. The restaurant is quite large and was quiet when we were there for an early lunch but understand that later it could get quite busy

Went to Zara Mayland for a change last night. Everything looked fine on arrival then they stuck us out the end with just one other table. Served drinks and poppadoms almost immediately then we didn't see anyone to take our order for over half an hour, and that was only because we complained! Another half hour went by before we complained to the girl on the bar about the wait to which she grunted "yeah that's normal" no apology, no offer to chase up the kitchen staff or a complimentary drink while we waited.Food arrived eventually served by the most miserable waiter I've encountered in a long while and to be fair the food was excellent but again no apology for the wait.Certainly won't be going back in a hurry.

Went for friends birthday. Restaurant NOT full - takeaways buoyant. Waited over an hour for our order which I enquires about. Woman behind bar said ' an hour us normal'Couple on opposite table seated before us - they too not served.Drank bottle of wine and jug of water before food arrived.Don't get me wrong - food as good as their takeaway.Even more disappointed to see waiter reading questionnaire card of couple on other table and laughing.Please don't laugh - we pay for service as well as good food.No tip left and seriously will never eat here again. I had been to their sister restaurant in Danbury which was very good and as this is only round the corner I thought I'd give it a try. I am so pleased I did the meal was excellent, freshly cooked very tasty and a cut above your local Indian takeaway. Inside the restaurant is great far better than you would imagine from the outside, the staff were attentive and knowledgeable. I asked for suggestions and they were very helpful, and the wine was pretty good as well. Also on the plus side it was inexpensive and I shall definitely return. This restaurant should be number one in Mayland and second Hardys. Unfortunately Tripadviser can be slightly rigged by friends reviewing certain establishments but I can only say I have nothing to do with either Zara or Hardys and this review is completely genuine on a great night out,

We regularly get a takeaway from Zara (we travel from South Woodham Ferrers to get it). Had one tonight, restaurant was full, one chef short in the Kitchen, and despite that, the food was still 100% Spot on! Keep it up guys and girls :)

We eat from Zara's frequently. We usually get a take away, but also eat in sometimes. The food has always been delicious, and the staff are always attentive and helpful. We have, on occasion, requested things off-menu, and they are always happy to oblige where possible! 5/5!

We had a meal at the Zara on New Years Eve and the food was great. I was disappointed to be overcharged by £25 for a £65 meal, good job I checked the bill.

Only went in there after the one we were going to was closed for refurbishment.a pleasant surprise. We were seated very quickly and the staff were courteous and helpful. We were offered drinks which came quickly and our orders were taken promptly. The food that we were served was well cooked and hot and we enjoyed it very much. We could finish it all and the rest of it was packed up in take out boxes for us to take home and enjoy the following day, which we did. We will definitely be revisiting this venue.

Visited this restaurant whilst on holiday. I was plesantly surprised by the ambience and food quality. Plenty of food choice was available at a very reasonable £10.95pp. Staff were attentive and answered all questions promptly and were courteous at all times. We were slightly concerned over some previously mixed reviews but are glad to report these were not accurate when we visited on Sunday 18th September 2016. Would recommend you give it a try.

What can I say, it's amazing! We visited on Saturday 27th August for our anniversary meal. We both enjoy a Indian takeaway but had never been to a restaurant before. We were seated immediately, the table was laid with fresh white tablecloths and had a single rose, clean silverware and we were served drinks straight away. We were also given complementary pomadoms with an array of dips which were bursting with flavour. You could tell they were made with good fresh ingredients. We ordered our mains and side dishes which came out steaming hot and again full of flavour. Our waiter was so helpful, attentive but didn't keep coming over (which can be annoying) on leaving we were given complementary shots of bailys, mints and after eight mints. 10/10 can't wait to return.

Ordered a takeaway from Zara, very disappointed with the food. Jalfrezi sauce was very watery and not enough meat in it. New Indian has popped up in the town so will be frequenting there from now on!

Ordered for delivery. Fair price. Lovely tastes. Meat a bit dry and portions average. Long wait for food. However, Korma ,rice,samosa, saag aloo? Peshwari naan all lovely. Would use again.

Ordered from Zara a few times and haven't had any problems. Ordered a takeaway and specifically asked for a dish without onions and explained this was due to an onion allergy. Dish delivered full of onions, rung them up and they denied there was any onions in the dish but then backtracked and said the spinach has onions in it, so not only did they try to lie they effectively served a dish knowing full well there was an ingredient which could of left someone very unwell, despite this they still didn't bother to offer any solutions. Will not be ordering from them again and would strongly advise anyone ordering to double check all of their food if they have an allergy as this restaurant seem to disregard it.

We have been here many times but I wasn't as happy on this occasion the side salad was dried out not sure why. The plain chicken Tikka was very nice and service good. The food is always fresh and is by far the best Indian in the area.

My husband and I decided to drop in for Sunday lunch on our way home after a very early start. The staff were attentive and friendly and the food was well laid out and very appetising. The variety of dishes on the menu was very wide, with starters, salad and pickles readily available. The food was hot and freshly prepared, with the various dishes being constantly replenished and the serving area kept clean of drips and spills. The food was well spiced and for a buffet was very high in quality. It was a very enjoyable visit and will be repeated.

This is our new local Indian and the food and service are both good. Would recommend you give the garlic naan a try - they offer it with extra garlic if you would like it, which is lovely

We popped into Zara for an evening meal on friday, on our weekend visit to Steeple Bay.We received a friendly welcome, seated quickly even though we had not booked and were served by three different members of staff, who were all very friendly and helpful.The food was lovely, full of flavour, with just the right heat for each dish.The restaurant is very beautifully laid out with white table linen , nice tall ceilings with dark oak beams, very nice.

We have been going to Zara's most weeks since it opened and have always received great service and great food.There is a nice seating area in the bar for pre dinner drinks and the 2 girls serving behind the bar are excellent.

We were a party of four and had been going there for several years,then last year we went on a special celebration visit, after being sat in the large seating area,we then waited 1 hour for a drinks order! then another 20 mins to get them.Tried to order meal but couldn't get waiter's eye who walked past us at least 10 times,finally got up and complained to the manager who apologised and offered the drinks for free (which were later charged for then retracted!).Then waited further 20 minutes for second drinks order with waiters walking by totally oblivious as to their customer needs. Still waited for ordered food which took another 30 minutes to arrive, that was after getting up for a second time to complain! When the meal finally came it was disgraceful, poorly cooked, no spice, small amounts.I used to recommend it and often took the whole family and friends with up to 12 people at a time.I would never go back and "offering to not charge for one round of drinks" is not a good recipe (excuse the pun) for a good dining out experience.

Zara Indian (the old Mayland Mill/Green Mangos) Is without a doubt one of the finest restaurants in this area. The food is always freshly cooked to perfection and the staff as attentive as ever. You really should give this place a go. Superb food and the Sunday buffet is always hot and wit a great choice.

It was good, we will return.. My husband, myself and our toddler were given a perfect table near other families with a little space next to the table suitable for playing if little one became fidgety. Being near other families made me less conscious of noise we may make which was nice for us. It was unlucky for us that on our first visit they were short staffed and were unusually busy for a Sunday. The fact they dealt with this situation so very well made me forgiving of my forgotten tea and the long wait for popadoms :)It was Sunday buffet, the food was lovely, my husband enjoyed his & so did I. I am vegetarian, the selection wasn't great, just chickpeas and potatoes, but when I asked for some more veggie dishes they happily obliged ..This was a good all round experience. Welcoming for families, even when my toddler was having a 'difficult time' upon leaving we weren't made to feel uncomfortable. What a lovely place.

Not a good experience on Friday 1 January. My daughters Duck Brest was as good as usual. My Husband and I had King Prawn Danzak and the prawns were very over cooked by the time they reached the table. Probably faster service would have saved the dishes. My complaint was responded to with the usual corporate platitude. "Sorry" so I pressed the point for a reduction on the bill. I would have paid the full bill and returned to the restaurant if I and my complaint had been treated with respect. Back to the Balti in Maldon until Zara gets its act together. Sad.

I took for daughter out for a meal on Xmas Eve to cheer her up as she has been unwell. Was my first and last visit to this restaurant. The restaurant was busy, but then that was to be expected, but took over an hour for us to get our meal. I had to ask 3 times for a glass of water. The staff seemed to be working very hard, but obviously not enough of them. Food was OK, but nothing special. Will not be rushing back.

Excellent flavours of Indian food. Service very good. Entertainment has been enjoyable in the past. Easy parking, nice dining room.

Went to Zara on Friday 4th December for a friends birthday and will never be going again! The service was dreadful and as well as serving minors alcohol even though they didn't have any ID, they overcharged us by £100! Staff were so rude except two girls behind the bar. Think it's awful that they can add small little things to your bill and increase how much you have to pay and refuse to take it off! The food was okay but will never ever be going in for a sit down meal again! You'd think that for a table of twenty they would make the effort to be welcoming, but no. Absolutely awful service.

Incredible food, some of the best Indian food I've eaten. The restaurant has a very good atmosphere and the service was fantastic.

So i thought what I lovely idea to go and have an Indian buffet on a Sunday, how wrong was I, the food was OK, nothing to boast about, but there highchair was filthy and we was the first family in there how this is except and rated a 4 in cleaniness beats me we won't be going again anytime soon!!

My partner and I are regular customers at Zara and always enjoy great food with good service. They are always accommodating and friendly. We often dine as a couple but they will go out of their way to accommodate younger family members when we dine as a bigger group. My 9 year old has previously had dishes that are altered or made up on the spot! e.g. 'plain salmon' or 'plain chicken' with chips and cucumber!!We try to vary our menu choices and I don't think I have ever been disappointed - their Sag Paneer is sublime :)P.S. Take away lives up to the same great standard as dining in.

Zara never disappoints. The food is always good. Staff always friendly. They have some good entertainment nights. Also do a Sunday buffet that is always plentiful.

We've dined here several times previously and on each occasion (bar one) the food and service were to a high standard. Our last visit was no exception with great food and friendly, efficient service. The menu is extensive and the food generally to a much higher standard than the "average" curry house. Whilst not really a venue for a special occasion Zara is undoubtedly a great option for a pleasant dinner in relaxed surrounding.

We've eaten here many times and the service has never been good but the food was so we've put up with it! Last night however was not only the worst service I've received anywhere but the food was very poor too. It took almost an hour and a half to get our main course and when that did arrive some of it was wrong and some main course dishes only has 3 or 4 pieces of chicken in. We were in the middle of ordering a round of drinks from the waiter when someone from the next table called him to order their drinks so he left our table mid order and went to serve them, we had to call him back to say we'd like to finish ordering our drinks and he laughed! We spoke to who we believed to be the manager about the poor service and even he didn't care. I don't think we'll bother going back, they really don't deserve their customers.

This our Local, always has a table even though its busy, the food is excellent, the prices are good, the service is spot on. Its a clean friendly efficiently run restaurant that i would recommend without hesitation.

Love the setting, the food is in my opinion, the best I have ever tasted and way above any other restaurant in this area. The fact the dining is always full goes some way to confirm this. Great service always, very friendly and helpful staff, nothing is too much bother and always happy to get samples for you to try if you are keen on sampling a new dish. The Sunday Buffet is amazing £8.95 for adults and the variety of dishes is great. If you like Indian food, you have to try Zara.

Having been to this establishment on many previous occasions I was very disappointed with the presentation of the food of which most of it was already cold due to being served up on stone cold crockery. The food warmer that the dishes were placed on we're luke warm and were next to useless. The service was very poor and you got the feeling that you were being rushed through the whole time you were there.Some items of the meal had to be returned and was either reheated/re cooked, but the overall feeling from our table of 4 was that of a bad experience.

I love the old building that Zara lives in! There have always been rumours of ghosts in the minstrels galllery! Zara's menu is excellent and the food and service match. We had Chicken Tikka Balti, Saag Paneer, Kormas and Pasandas - fantastic quality and reasonably priced. The wine is also extremely well priced.
