Best Indian food in the area! Great chicken tikka masala and the naan bread was perfect! Highly recommended

Absolutely amazing food, wide range of dishes available and really friendly staff. Can't fault the food or service or the price! Great value evening out, even more so with their 4 course set menu offer on a Sunday and Monday which itself includes the most popular dishes to please everyone! Who doesn't want a cheap but decent meal out?! At £11.95 for an adult it really can't be beaten! Honestly I can't recommend Ruby's enough, well worth a visit or a takeaway if you're a local or on holiday!

Lamb Biryani overcooked and dry. Vegetable Curry greasy. Got my order wrong, even missing an item off the order. One of life’s lessons, should have gone to the initial Indian I intended to go to.

Our friends from Mersea recommended this place so we all went out for an evening meal. We received a warm welcome upon arrival from the friendly staff. The service was prompt but best of all the food was stunning. Well presented,melt in the mouth lamb dishes were devoured all round. We look forward to returning again…🙂

Excellent, flavoursome food. There were four of us and we all had different dishes but tasted each other’s and enjoyed them all! Very personable young waiter, so attentive.

From arriving we were made to feel welcome and given the choice of where we wanted to sit. Service was efficient and friendly with a good knowledge of the menu and help deciding what we would enjoy most. Our mains were bought to the table via a serving trolly so all our meals arrived together once we’d finished our starters. Great food, wonderful atmosphere and price wise, very good considering the current financial climate. Thank you Rubys for a wonderful family evening out.

where to start firstly had to put 1 star which is to much you cant put none. next delivery found me eventually postman has no trouble.my keema nan looked like it had been handled in gauntlets and thrown into into the bag it tasted passable but looked horrible it was in pieces. next the veg curry when i removed lid red oil went all over my units when i drained the oil i saw the greenish brown mess underneath first thing that come to mind how do i get rid of it yuk. i then look to my special shahi biryani looks ok then i taste tough lamb dry chicken i could not it eat could not find the prawns found some very very small shrimps . not happy but hungry so i drove to rubys to ask what went wrong i was then told it would be investigated. he also said he would let me have my next meal half price. i laughed walked out feeling insulted . shame that a customer of a few times can be treated so badly .i wonder whose next GOOD LUCK

The restaurant staff are welcoming but after that the service felt a bit sullen. The menu was interesting and the starters were nice. We chose a main course that we had never seen before and it was nice, but not stand out. The decor is standard Indian restaurant - leather chairs etc. The music was annoying and loud. The toilets needed a revamp. We would not go again, sadly.

They advertise on their menu 20% discount if you have take away. But when you go to pay in cash I may add. You might get 10% if you book on line. As you cannot get through by phone. The food is crap compared to other Indian takeaways. In the local area so I will never step foot in this establishment ever again. If you want a sit down meal The service is just as bad. It seems that they take cash & card but if paying by card it’s also more expensive L rest my cash

Placed order through JustEat and already had a wait time of 1hour-1hour 20. After 90 mins of waiting called restaurant to enquire about location of food. The man who answered was very blunt and rude and shortly hung up on me. Tried for a further 45 mins to get through to the restaurant and never any answer! Will never order again and wouldn’t advise using their delivery service again.

Misleading menu, be careful what you order. Expensive main course dishes listed as including rice and nans but they don't. Staff couldnt care and not bothered to help resolve issue. Obviously don't need the business!

Having ordered food on JustEat it was clear that delivery was going to be a lot later than desired...OK, they're busy, surely a sign of a good restaurant, right? After 1.5 hours of waiting, I phoned to make sure that they'd actually received the order (just in case) and was told that the delivery was with the driver, great! After another half an hour I phoned again and was then told that the delivery left with the driver 10 minutes ago. How could this be when it apparently had left over 30 minutes prior?! Who was lying? The first or the second person I spoke to?? Well, as it turns out probably the first as the food turned up stone cold more than 2.5 hours after I ordered it. That'll be the first and last time I'll order from them!

We have used Ruby’s many times over the years and always been happy but lately we have been disappointed and yesterday’s take away prompted me to write this revue . I ordered Chicken Korma which when I opened the container had only got 5 small pieces of chicken in a very thin sauce and my partner had Chicken tikka masala also with very little chicken , we felt this was not value for money £21.00 and left us feeling that we would not go there again!

Ordered through 'just eat' as we do every week. They advised 19.15 as the delivery time, which normally they are about 30 mins early but tonight the text arrived at 19.20 saying food had left. 20.00 we left a urgent message as to non delivery via JustEat app and they did not respond, we phoned them as a rude man answered saying it might have left, if not he would get it out. We waited until 20.15 when the food turned up, it felt cold so I mentioned that to the driver who responded saying 'I was given 2no and came straight here' I said that it was 1 hour late and she responded that it was nothing to do with her she just delivers the food. The food was a bit overcooked and cold, which was not nice. I will not ear from there again and recommend others try elsewhere.Gave 2 stars as always was good but they have been getting worse for weeks in little ways.

First visit for us from Mersea island and I’m just gutted we’ve not come sooner. With 2 fussy boys eating out can sometimes be challenging. I can honestly say every plate was cleared, my boys tried food they normally wouldn’t . 10 out of 10 from my youngest. Delicious food, warm and friendly service, we’ll be back.

First ever visit tonight and the food was excellent. Restaurant is newly decorated and bright. Staff are friendly and menu is extensive with many restaurant specials. Would recommend the Rezetie which was topped with mushrooms and garlic, delicious. Indian is one of our favourites and Ruby’s did not disappoint. Highly recommended and enjoyed so much we have already booked for next week.

It's hard to find an Indian restaurant that does good Indian food not oily and repeating on you the next day never always good at Ruby's. We were warned when ordering that they were incredibly busy and it would probably take 90 minutes for delivery. They were pretty much spot on with that prediction and because we’d been warned, we didn’t mind waiting. We also knew we’d have a wait with further Covid restrictions making takeaways a more popular option than eating out.Our order arrived with profuse apologies from the very pleasant driver and was still lovely and hot. The order was spot on. Having had several takeaways from Ruby’s we have found that ordering direct seems more reliable than through Just Eat, no idea why. Telephone ordering has the advantage that you get a time estimate too and they always seem bang on with these.We ordered five meals and accompaniments, all were well cooked and packed full of flavour. My MIL was really looking forward to her Kathmandu, a dish she hasn’t found anywhere else. It didn’t disappoint!Well done Ruby’s!

I ordered a take away from here for the first time on Sunday evening. The food was very hot (temperature) and really flavoursome. It was not greasy at all and I will definitely be ordering from them again.

After saying we wouldn't go back to Rubys after the wrong order we thought we give them one last chance. After confirming the order 3 times with them and about to have our mains we found that we had the wrong order again. Spent the next 20 minutes on both telephone lines trying to get through to let them know and no response. 100% won’t be going back!

Have used this takeaway for a while and always asked for vegan options. Phoned up to order takeaway today to find the stuff we've been ordering isn't vegan, plenty won't be to concerned by this but if we had major food allergies it could of made us really ill. Won't be using again.

Shocking!!! Very poor service - received wrong order and told it’s not their fault! Manager refused come to the wrong. When eating the wrong order- the nan was under cooked and the lamb was stringy. Will never go back. Stay clear of this restaurant

Worst meal ever, ordered a takeaway, it turned up wrong, they refused to help us, manager refused to talk to me as he was too busy, when I fished up my main, you will see from the picture that value for money is non existent. Steer well clear

We have been to Ruby’s a lot in the past and its always great food! Their Sunday/Monday set menu deal they have on is amazing value! Staff Always very friendly

I have eaten in the restaurant, however we decided to eat in the comfort of our own home last night. The food was absolutely top notch! Ruby's do the best king prawns which are always succulent and quite large. Spices were perfect for my taste I had a Jalfrezi (Madras Hot), delivered in 30 mins to Tiptree too so not long to wait!

Friendly staff and great service. Delicious food and would highly recommend to anyone. First time my youngest daughter has eaten Indian food . Great deal on a Sunday and Monday at the moment, try it!!

We were visiting Tolleshunt D'Arcy and passed Ruby's on a Monday evening and were pleased to find it open. Although it was as expected very quiet, we were given a warm welcome by the staff. The menu had a few dishes on that we had not encountered before, so we tried the Chicken Rezetie which was topped with mushrooms and garlic, very tasty. The food was well cooked and naan breads fluffy and warm. We had a nice meal. Just a note though that they do not currently have a drinks licence, but you can bring your own. Opening hours appear to be:Lunch: 12:00pm to 2:00pmDinner: 5:00pm to 11:00pm (Sunday to Thursday)Dinenr: 5:00pm to 11:30pm (Friday & Saturday)Open 7 days a week including Bank Holidays

Absolute gem. Food was excellent and the staff so friendly really great evening definitely go again. Shame about the lack of alcohol licence as had to take own drinks although bill was much less

Our order arrived with one extra thing we didn’t order, and one thing we did. We had specified low salt but special balti and vegetable curries were so salty we couldn’t eat them. Very disappointed. Won’t order or visit again even though it’s only a couple of miles away. Oh, and more expensive than the CHELMSFORD curry restaurant we tend to visit. Altogether a sad meal.

So, after finishing work late, I really fancied a curry.

Brought to the door by a most pleasant and complimentary driver. The food - scrumptious! 3 different dishes, all cooked to perfection and DELICIOUS.

The food is amazing the chef will do whatever you fancy oustanding nan bread I love the cheese chilli garlic and onion nan .. Nothing is never a problem staff friendly and helpful .

I came for a meal on a Friday night for a couples meal. Very good food the best I’ve had in the area. Atmosphere and service was welcoming and spot on. Will be returning soon.

We go to Ruby’s quite regularly and sadly getting worse each time. A year ago we would of given 5 stars but with each visit it’s losing a point. Seems now they have lost alcohol licence they have lost interest. The last visit just after xmas the staff were shocking, food flavour non existent and the waiter although nice and tried his best really didn’t have a clue. I generally think they got him off the street. Poor bloke was well out his depth. Sadly Not sure if we will be going back. Hopefully things will improve as once upon a time you couldn’t keep us away.

This was the first and will be the last time we visit. Drinks menu on table when you sit down, then when asked what you would like you are told they do not sell alcohol. Food ok I guess but quite a wait. No warmers placed on table to keep your food warm, service like being in Fawlty Towers.

Just had another lovely meal , the food was absolutely amazing as always . We have been eating here since moving to the village and the quality of the food is always top notch. They do me an egg curry which is not on the menu but put themselves out to accommodate. Love this place and the management and staff ! Pay them a visit , you won’t be disappointed.

Had dinner there on a Wednesday night. Not impressed by the service nor the food. But the food was better than the service. Finally they were not able to provide a receipt for the dinner which now gives me trouble with our accounting department.

Excellent food and service as always. I have not found anywhere that cooks a Lamb Korahi so lovely and is pure succulent soft pieces of lamb without grissel

my wife have allergic from onion and garlic....we ask staff to make food without onion and gaelic.They made very nice dishes with good taste.We stayed at near hotel crown plaa so it was very near as well.

Food tasty enough but when I ordered I was told a wait time of 45 minutes, food eventually delivered after 1 hours 40 minutes after chasing I would have preferred an honest answer on wait time then I would have made alternative arrangements and tried them a different time.

Came here again Saturday for an evening with friends to celebrate a birthday we were greeted as we came in by all the staff sat down had our drinks and popadoms order taken the waiters would come to check we okay never felt rushed or pressured into ordering all in all great night great food and great atmosphere wasn’t my first time here and certainly won’t be my last

We was invited to a birthday celebration at this restaurant unfortunately the food still hasn't improved and the service was terrible, after our meal the Waiters come over to tell us he is closing up now and we have to leave ! Why asked 1 of our friends he then tell us he's been burgled and got to go home that's a shame but why as the restaurant got to close they had 7 people out front to serve . This really is the last time I go to this restaurant.

I have been a customer of Rubys since they opened 12 years ago! A modern Indian restaurant, Rubys (named after his wife, not the popular epithet!) Is quirkily in the small village of Tolleshunt D'Arcy, yet attracts custom from as far away as Colchester!

We visited as a family on Christmas Eve and the food was absolutely outstanding; freshly prepared, some really interesting choices on the menu. Will definitely visit again next time we are in the area.

Very hospitable, great family run restaurant. The food was tasty..we wanted it extra spicy and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Was staying at a local hotel and glad we ventured out instead of eating hotel food! Highly recommend this place.

Food was great I had a king prawn starter and it was delicious my wife had the Sheek kebab which also looked amazing. For mains I had the chicken noor-Jahan which was also delicious I would definitely have again and recommend to anyone my wife...

Dined here early mid week and had a great meal. Friendly staff, efficient service and great food! Usual Indian menu on offer but also a few good options in the Chefs Recommendations to stop you being too boring. It's not the largest restaurant and parking was difficult on this cold wet and windy night.

Staying at nearby Crowne Plaza so visited as I fancied a curry and only 5 minutes away. Limited parking and rather small

This was the second time we ordered a takeaway from here and had to throw it away , the Chicken tikka tasted like it had past it's sell by date , the Sauce was more like a tomato soup , Nam bread was cold, onion barges was swimming in Fat. At £27 and straight in the bin if you take my advice "Don't order from here" . I spoke to someone at the restaurant and he informed me the Manager was not there and ring back the next day. I'm still trying to speak to the manager...

Went down with family to eat inside couple of days ago, and this is without a doubt the best indian we had. The food was absolutely brilliant, I had a calamari dish which was very good (highly recommend it). The service was very good and fast which was a bonus considering they were very busy. Will definitely be visiting again!

So Saturday night we telephoned at 6.50pm to order a takeaway collection for 7.35pm as we were travelling back home from the NEC at Birmingham. We arrived dead on 7.35pm And we were told it would be 5 minutes. The restaurant was quite busy but there was a real sense of unease. As we waited and waited and waited for our takeaway we observed people st rd led getting agitated as they clearly were not getting service for drinks and orders. The phone kept ringing and orders kept being taken as we waited and waited and waited. Shut came up and said he had waited 1hour and 20 minutes for his order. The young girl without to the kitchen and bought it straight out- he enquired how long it had been sat there and she just shrugged and offered s laim apology. He should have been given his money back and the meal given as complimentary with massive apology.

We have eaten a Ruby's many times yet the last few occasions have not be great experiences. Last night the service was really slow and when the food arrived it was almost stone cold. Such a shame, but will have to give this restaurant a miss for the next few times we go out.

We eat here once a week and it just gets better each time. The food is amazing and they also do special requests, as I love egg curry and egg paratha but not many restaurants have it on the menu but I simply asked and it was done. The owner and all the waiters are so friendly and will do anything for you, they really make you feel welcome. I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Indian food in a nice clean and friendly place. Love it !

I reviewed this restaurant a few weeks ago, & although the food was lovely, the service on my last visit was absolutely dreadful, HOWEVER we went again this weekend and I am very pleased to say there was a 100% improvement, waiters were attentive, the order was exactly right and the food still 10 out of 10, the whole dining experience was excellent, I can only think I caught them on a bad day last time, glad I gave them a 2nd chance

This place was recommended by a work colleague & although I would give the food 10 out of 10, the service was absolutely appalling. The waiter who took our order messed the drinks up, I asked for my curry not to have corriander in it & it came covered in it so they said they would scrape it off, they bought 3 rice out of the two of us, we were not given hot flannels after our meal, never asked if we wanted dessert, we were overcharged on our bill, the restaurant was not over busy & they had plenty of waiting staff so I can see no reason for the terrible service.

I personally have eaten here several times! I recently commenced a relationship and wanted to impress my new partner who enjoys Indian food and although we are blessed with several good quality establishments Ruby's was the one selected! My partner enjoyed the ambiance and the meal and she proclaimed "the best curry I've ever eaten " Thank you Ruby's for making her very happy and me very satisfied with a the whole outcome of the evening!! I hope if you decide to visit you enjoy!!

this is the third rubbish meal i have had and thrown away from rubys,i orderd a chicken madras it was just cold chicken with a thin spicey soup over it,the rice and bombay potatos were cold,thought i wood give them one more chance butit was poor,never again

It was a very convivial evening with friends to celebrate my retirement. The dishes were wonderful. Well presented, freshly cooked and so tasty. The Naan Bread was exceptional. We're lucky to have such a place near Tollesbury.

We ordered takeaway when we got it home we were missing 3 dishes one being a main dish we rang the takeaway and they delivered it to is with a free bottle of Cobra beer for the inconvenience. We had to all wait while the rest of our take away was delivered we were very disappointed as the missing dishes were tasteless and the chicken dansk which was originally missing was very watery and tasteless the garlic naans which were originally missing were missing any garlic one of the dishes was a king Prawn Bhuna which was missing prawns just an object which didn't resemble any thing and tasted disgusting on the whole a complete nightmare will never order from here again disgusting horrible food!!!

We were staying at the Crown Plazza Hotel in Colchester some 3 miles from Rub's. Unfortunately the Crown Plazza stopped serving food at 9.30pm. A quick check of google and Ruby's was sourced. We made a reservation for 9.45pm. On turning up at the restaurant, it was completely empty. We didn't want to be the only diners in the restaurant and opted for take out food to take back to the hotel. the food was cooked freshly, was of a good portion size. Staff were polite, helpful friendly and efficient. It wasn't the 'greatest' Indian meal we've had, but it wasn't unpleasant. Good value, good service in this really remote location.

I started getting take aways from Ruby's a while ago and initially they were very good but the service has gone down hill. The staff a very rude. The last meal I had was also not great... A kind of curry I guess but more like soup with a couple of curly black hairs included at no extra cost. Needless to say I won't be visiting again.

I had a delivery from here, didn't use my usual place and tried this for a change. Chicken Dhansak was passableMushroom rice was goodBombay aloo was reasonable if a little oilyKeema naan again reasonableSaag paneer, well, I've really no idea what it was but spinach was in short supply. Kind of a curried custard with cubes of paneer. Not offensive, but not what a saag paneer is supposed to be!I can't imagine I'll be rushing back but if you're in a fix and need a quick and courteous delivery, it'll do.

I ordered a delivery for 4 adults and 2 kids. The order arrived after an hour and wasn't very hot and was a curry missing. I phoned up to inform them of this and they said that the curry wasn't written on the order but they would send one out. This would have been because the guy on the phone couldnt understand English very well. It arrived 45 mins later! I told the guy at the door that my nann bread, chips and rice was now cold and he asked me for £11. I refused to pay for the curry and he was very rude and said ok then ill take it back. I think this is disgusting customer service after i paid £65 for the food i did get. Wont be back

Love Ruby's Indian, we always order an Indian takeaway from here, i always order an off menu dish and they have no issue preparing this to an excellent standard. Would recommend eating in and take away from here!

Went here on Sunday evening and we had the set menu which was £9.95 for a starter, main and either rice or naan. The choice of food was very good there we're 4 or 5 starters and the same number of mains and good selection of sides to choose from.The waiter was very friendly and the food was well prepared and tasted excellent. The restaurant was very clean and bright and well spaced out. Will definitely visit here again.

Really poor service, ordered and told you shall have your food within 50mins-1hour. We rang to see where our food was, and because you had only one driver that was our problem that our food took an extra hour. Food came and it wasn't hot, minimal taste and a real let down. We used you all the time but after this, we will not be returning as a family.

Went tonight and had the best meal again as always. Asked for no coriander and that's exactly what was served up. One of the best Indian restaurants around. You need to try. Such lovely food. The tenderest lamb dishes you'll ever have. See you soon

Love Ruby's whenever I stay down the road at the CP 5 Lakes hotel, I come here for dinner, usually once a month. Being a creature of habit I always stick to the same dishes but they are delicious. South Indian Chilli Garlic Chicken or lamb if I am feeling adventurous is simply divine, paired with a garlic rice & nann bread you can't go wrong. Prices are fair, service is always good, food is portioned well. Lots of variety on the menu, never had a bad meal, just some more special than others.Generally quite during the week but I have dined at the weekend with my partner, to be fair the atmosphere is better when the restaurant is busy but that wouldn't stop me from dining on a week night when its quieter.

Staying at the five lakes again so called in for a curry. Met with friendly staff and seated at a table for two. (The tables are a bit small in my opinion). Chicken chat puree to start South Indian garlic chilli chicken as a main with pilau rice with a chapati. The starter was bang on but the main was very hot. I had the same dish a month ago and was no where near that hot. I love a madras but it was hotter than a vindaloo.

I love it here, the staff are so friendly and the food is to die for.I have tried most of the chef's recommendations and they are all fabulous.Nothing is ever too much and the staff will accommodate all your food needs.Cant wait for my next visit!

Staying at the five lakes up the road and called in here for a nice change to the mundane food served at hotel. Very friendly staff and the food was excellent. We ate in the week and would image it would be busy at the weekend.

Arrived early on a Friday evening without a reservation but they were very welcoming and even supplied a high chair for a 7 month old baby without any hesitation.Friendly staff and an excellent menu with great variety (but with the regular dishes available too). The only issue we had was the long wait for food once we had ordered which was difficult with children with us. However, the food was well worth waiting for - a taste above the normal. If you have time to make an evening of it and not in a rush - we would highly recommend.

Clean, friendly busy. Dont expect massive flavours as basic cooking skills. But that said its ok for a quick takeaway and good for a gathering.

Not been before even though we live walking distance. Recently refurbished and was impressed with food ,service and pricing.Not overly crowded on a Monday but reckon you would need to book at weekend as not that many covers.Will definitely go back.

very nice food of an average price we had 4 x 2 corse meal with two bottles of whine one house and one branded the place its self is not that special inside and the services was hit and miss but the food was very nice

A delivered takeaway is great value and there's plenty of it! The quality of the food is excellent too. I can't fault them -- and cheery service!

We visited Colchester in the Autumn term break and decided to stay in a nearby hotel for two nights and this is a little gem in the area. It is quite a remote part of Essex and the atmosphere is good. Food is fresh and excellent, full of flavors. Staffs are friendly and helpful. We will definitely come back again.
