The best burrito spot ever , must try if you have the opportunity.Best place to enjoy mexican food and culture.

After a long trek along the dusty trail, my steed and I spied a red star rise on the horizon. With bellies a'hungry and tongues a'dry the scent of spiced meats and sight of refrigerated beverages had us bounding to this fine establishment's gates. The server, a kind-lookin' lady with funky hair, immediately diagnosed our issue and sprang to quell our needs. The food was delicious - and a much needed nourishment in comparison to the canned beans the long trail had me acclimated to. With a belly full of burrito and in my hand a lemonade can, with a tip of the hat I bid the kind lady fair-well and continued down the trail. My companion and I highly recommend this establishment to all a wanderin' folk.

Have always loved going to zapatista for food, but this was the best experience! The food and atmosphere was lovely and my server Emma made the experience so much better - made me feel very comfortable and welcomed and it was great talking to her ! I was being indecisive with my order and she was extremely patient and helpful x

I eat here whenever I'm passing by the station. The store is always really clean and the food is well priced and very filling. Staff are also lovely, especially Kyle who always takes the time to ask about my day!

Not my first visit to this establishment, good quality fast food that leaves you full and satisfied. The staff were lovely as soon as we walked in. Helpfully explained what they had and did not have, unfortunately one of the machines broke when it came to my order. But no worries as both ladies were very happy to suggest other alternatives. Worst burrito ever. If you can call it that. Don’t know how this place gets any good reviews. The food looks and tastes like it’s been sat there for many days. Barely edible… threw most of it away and now looking for lunch elsewhere.

Lovely little lunch spot for a quick bite! You can’t help but have a little boogie to the music whilst you wait in the queue! Staff are always lovely and super accommodating. Would recommend!

Used to be the best in Newcastle, portion sizes have decreased (or they’re just far stricter now), quality has decreased and the chicken is always bland and dry. The staff are super friendly but often seem a little untrained now.

Come here often when in the area but tonight was so disappointing. 6pm and there was barely anything left. £10 for a half empty burrito bowl, no fillings left or even lettuce and when I asked the server if they had anything else I was just offered some red onion? Supposedly still open for another 2 hours but serving what I don’t know. Everything had a skin on it and so wont be going back.

We got a take our order one evening. The food was nice and hot. The menu has a great selection of fresh and tasty fillings. The burrito has chicken, rice, salas, onions, a vegetarian filling with chickpeas/spices for added flavour and protein. It came with an amazing quack dip and tortilla chips. Overall extremely happy with the order but we did get 40% off which meant it was really worth it and a great portion size with the discount. For the full price I’d need to be really craving a burrito to get one at the price but I’d only go here!!

Chipotle mayo is falsely advertised as mild, it is not. Most of the sauces tasted like feet not nice. And they forgot lettuce with my order (even though I didn’t order rice with it, and burrito lovers know that the lettuce is needed to make up for no rice)

Disappointed with flavour, all elements were really bland, particularly the rice. The whole burrito bowl tasted like tinned tomatoes and overpowering raw red onion in the pico de gallo. Sweet potato curry had zero seasoning and there was only a tiny bit of cheese. Positive aspect was the fact that the food did taste fresh and it was a decent portion.

I have visited Zapatista a number of times over the years however in recent visits I have not noticed that the prices continue to rise and the quality & standard of the food continues to fall. The Hot Salsa there this week was severely watered down and lacking any real flavour at all, the Crispy tacos were all so stale. I won’t be back.

Visited Zapatista yesterday (25/07). Firstly the group wanted to sit outside so I asked the server to clear the outside tables. She said she was the only staff on, so I said okay I'll clear them. She then said we couldn't move the tables together because she'd have to move them back. I said there is seven of us, I'm already clearing the tables and we will put the table together. She said I was rude and refused to serve us! I had already cleared the tables for her and then she refused to serve seven people cocktails and burritos!

We were given the wrong fries but everything else was spot on. Big portions, tasty food, will be back!

Got my food and walked out and the bag ripped and the food fell out - guy made me a new bowl free of charge. Kind gesture that I appreciated.

Great food provided hot and well worth the money

This is a relatively comfortable, student-oriented space with some nice wall art. The burritos are produced in the style of Chipotle (or Subway) with a limited set of options to fill them. We found the food a little bland, the pork unexpectedly sweet - we were expecting something closer to carnitas in flavor. The chicken burrito was fine, saved from blandness by a liberal portion of their spiciest sauce. To be fair, we're from California so have certain expectations for Mexican food that may not pertain to tastes in Newcastle.

Cold burrito, cold chips. Environment is cool, Team member who made the food was quiet and moody.

Had a lovely burrito but this wasn't the highlight of my experience, my server was one of the nicest staff I've ever met, very polite and had a smile on his face constantly, he should be very valued as an employee making the restaurant brighter, he was wearing pink shorts, had some tattoos on his arm (31/05/24, 16:15)

Just queued 15 mins. Got to front only to be told you couldn't sit cos they were closing due to being short staffed. Ridiculous. Could they not tell you earlier. That was a 6.30 pm. Awful service.

The burrito was nice but as I never been here before it would have been very helpful if the staff makes you aware of what is included and what is not, and what you can add on as an extra. I felt like the lady who served me was a bit annoyed by me asking what i can have in etc. The guy was much friendlier. The tables were a bit messy and a bit annoying that you do not provide toothpicks. Now I have to walk around Newcastle with food stuck in my teeth. :p

Repeat customer. Food was fantastic, medium burrito was so generously filled. Delivery was slow, but no fault of Zaps and the driver was from Just Eat.

Food is delicious as usual, but unfortunately didn’t arrive for almost 2 hours. Chips were quite cold when they arrived. Unsure whether this was entirely due to courier availability, the restaurant being busy or both, but would have been better if the original delivery time estimate had been more honest.

Always used to rave about Zapatista, but the last two visits have been quite poor, the "lime" rice has no flavour like it used to and is incredibly dry, and the Pork on the last two occasions has had pieces of this tough Jelly-like stuff in it, not very pleasant.

Ate here yesterday, I've always loved Zapatistas since it first opened but I have noticed a slight decline in quality over the years. It's still delicious .... Just not as delicious. I ordered 3 tacos. 2 pork and one chicken with spicy beans, extra hot salsa (not that hot), sour cream and cheese. The pork tacos were great But the chicken tacos were so dry I nearly choked to death, in which I would have fell into an eternal slumber only dreaming of moister taco goodness. The young lad who served me was a nice enough dude but it would of been nice if the young lass got off her phone and attended to customer needs. Still though the foods decent and at 12 quid with a beer in Newcastle City centre it's a good deal x

We were so excited to try this place after being on the train and had spare time until I nxt connection oh boy was I wrong too this was by far the Worst ever Quesadillia I have ever seen or tasted. The chargrilled chicken was tasteless and had no seasoning, salsa or sour cream, literally flat . Guacamole is not just mashed Avocado like what was served, disgusting. No homemade nachos these were out of a bag, nothing authentic about it at all. Pico was tasteless too Fast food! Definitely but no care in making it whatsoever. The customer service was very poor as a chap stood for ages until he was acknowledged as staff too busy talking to their Alexa and faffing about in the background which could of waited. Waste of money as the meal was left due to being unedible The 1st 2 photos are of the meal purchased, the other 2 are if what a real Quesadillia should look like

Food and delivery was good but missing our dips

This place used to be great. Not bad now, but nothing stupendous. My last visit I think. Will try somewhere else next time.

paid for 2 meats the burrito was much smaller than usual and be lucky if it actualy had 1 portion of meat in it, never have I had a large burrito from here with 2 meat and still been hungry after, if this is the new norm then IL probably not bother any more, shame because it was my favourite place, not cheap but was worth it not so much now it seems, the order before this was very late and cold no good 😔

Such a shame, years ago the Ridley Place shop used to serve up the best burritos in Newcastle - however the last few orders from this newer offspring of Zapatista have done nothing but disappoint. There’s two flavour options for your burrito now, spicy or bland. I persevered a few times in case it was just an ‘off day’. Sadly if anything they’ve just got worse. The OG lime and coriander rice from Ridley Place used to taste of just that, now both rice options are often undercooked cardboard tasting pellets with no discernible flavour difference. With so many other Mexican eateries popping up in Newcastle, albeit with better offerings, tonight’s order from Zaps will be the last.

Great food plenty of flavor and arrived early

Waiting for my train so had the large burrito meal deal, very filling.

All food was delicious as per usual - but the menu says there are 8 chicken strips in the family bundle and we only received 5. Otherwise perfect though!

Zaps will always be Newcastles most banging burrito but we are going to be avoiding the Grainger street store from now solely because of one member of staff. I didnt ask her for her name or complain directly in-store as she seemed to be in charge (bossing her colleagues around in horrible fashion) so didnt think my complaint would see the light of day, however, this young girl is truly awful. When we were ordering she was aggressively confronting her colleagues who were trying to serve us, making us feel really uncomfortable. When i pointed out that behaviour was ridiculously unprofessional she must have overheard me and was serving other customers whilst staring at me like she was going to fight me! 😂😂 I wasnt intimidated at all but couldnt help but feel that she could've really scared someone with her bully-ish aggressive behaviour. Needless to say.. IF i ever return to the Grainger street zaps. She will not be serving me, i feel terrible for the poor souls who have to work with her too.

Food cold. Ordered a meal deal with seasoned fries and an extra portion of seasoned fries and got rubbish portion of tortilla chips instead. Very disappointing

Staff seemed nice enough. Food tasted old , there is 1 vegan option, it was disappointing and tasteless . Meat option had a bit more flavour . Chips well seasoned . Overall disappointing but big burrito, chips and drink for £9 isn't too bad . There's other places that do that with more flavour though.

Food would have been good and the staff were lovely on the phone at the restaurant, but just eat themselves took over 2 hours to deliver the order. Unfortunately, the nachos had gone soft by then and it was essentially mush.

I ordered a fajita with halloumi, butternut squash and chickpeas as the filling due to being vegetarian and was given chicken instead, which I only realised after taking a bite since they're wrapped with closed ends. It was also missing the rest of the fajita extras aside from the rice. The order also took 40 minutes longer than originally estimated.

Been to the Zapatista near Central Station many times for great burritos over the years. In the last year or so it's sometimes been understaffed and slow even at peak times, but the food is usually always tasty.

My burrito was cold and needed heating up in the microwave. Otherwise a good portion and delivered quickly.

Very nice place, and the food is delicious and come in big portions. Price is a bit much but still justifiable for what you get.

Compared to my usual orders from here, the portion size was significantly smaller than what I have received in the past. With the cost of delivery and additional fees, this ended up being a very expensive snack. Hesitant to ordered again as this has typically always been good.

Not Zapatistas fault at all, it's the best place for burritos it's amazing and I order regularly but Food was freezing cold and soggy the delivery driver decided to go pick up more orders probably from a different app I saw him sitting at chilli PADI for 10 mins then drove to jesmond to drop it off and picked something else up in jesmond and dropped it off before me aswell awefull worst service I've ever had then he had the cheek to say it was just traffic, fed it to the dog, propper joke spending 23 quid on a meal for a dog.

This was a great find after traveling over 10 hours from the US. Needed something different and this was it. Spicy squash was awesome in the bowl. The workers were helpful too!

Some of the chicken was undercooked and the food was cold. This was not due to delivery time as the delivery time was quick, therefore it just be left the restaurant cold, appalling.

I normally love Zapatista but it wasn’t great today. All the meat/cheese was wedged in one end of the fajita and then the other end was all rice/veg. It must have been rolled up wrong. Hoping this is a one-off mistake!

Lettuce begin. Here's my beef, I'm not going to chicken out, you have pork'ustomer service, clearly it's nacho strong point. I hate to sound like a sour cream but I'm never going guac. For the last two years I've done nothing but be jalapeño business. Even when I'm desperado for some good food I'll be taco'ing my custom elsewhere. I'm sorry to pepper you with insults, it's bean nice knowing you, but for me that's a wrap. See you next week.

A really lovely informal, great tasting mexican food. Recommend the butternut squash and halloumi burritos and dirty margaritas. Fantastic service and fun decor.

Great choice of really fresh food. I was helped by a lovely girl called Courtney, as I wasn't au fait with the ordering process and choice of fillings. I wasn't disappointed. I wanted something hot (I haven't had a curry for a while) and chose Tacos with Chilli with the hot sauce. It was lovely, washed down with a San Miguel, outside in some long awaited sunshine 🌞 A great experience 😀

The sealable bags for the tortilla chips were much better than the boxes, the food was fast and tasty as usual, and the delivery driver was kind and courteous.

Chips were so dry they were hard to eat and the delivery could not follow instructions. Considering the cost of the delivery and that I had to walk to meet the driver and that the chips were £3 (almost) and are practically inedible.

Never open until 8pm as stated on their opening hours. Love the food but always disappointed to find them closed very early. The other day I got there at 7.35 and they were closed already. I'd understand 10 minutes early to close properly but this is a joke.

Delicious food, on time. Unfortunately the sauce lids all came off (please consider wrapping them like everywhere else does, in a paper bag, foil or cling film, or even just some tape) so everything was drenched in toffee syrup. Recommend the food but have wet wipes on hand and your own sauces at home
