Khyber Cafe in Newcastle upon Tyne

This place is great for everyone. The kind staff asked for our drinks order and came back within a couple of minutes and gave us the tastiest mango lassi ever. The pizzas were very cheesy. The chips were also chunky which is quite rare nowadays in Newcastle. The staff always made sure we were happy and it was easy to ask for assistance. Thank you Khyber Cafe

Rang tonight for a delivery the woman who answered phone had an attitude saying they no longer deal with food hub and just eat were on hold this is our first and last time trying to place an order. . You don’t speak to paying customers with an attitude. Please look at the staff you have answering your phones. !!!

Only 2 other families there. Restaraunt was freezing, condensation dripping off the windows- few heaters near windows where useless. Biryani was lukewarm and as place was so cold food got cold very quickly. Had mixed grill- lamb chops where awful tasted burnt and fleshy… only thing nice was naan bread and seekh kebabs where ok. Got desert to takeaway -school pudding- it was stale … 3rd time i have got desert from them and it has been stale … give up now wont be getting desert from there again!!!

Excellent place to have dinner/lunch/or just snacks. Visiting Newcastle from USA, one of the best Halal food places to have your meal. Biryani, Cicken Tikka Pizza, and Khyber Karhai.

Absolutely tasty food ordered khyber special grill and some desserts after that. Nice service and ambience.

Extremely cold in the restaurant. None of my family could take our coats off and be comfortable. Food took forever. Staff were very unorganised.

Called for the first time since takeover. Wish I hadn't. Not a soul in the place. Menu stated gluten free options available. Waitress didn't know what I was talking about. Offered the cheesecake or the brownies. Was told both were made with wheat. I settled for the banana split. Omg. 3 scoops of banana ice cream with sliced banana with some toffee sauce drizzled and a couple of squirts of aerosol cream. Definitely think I'll not bother ever again. Much better when Fazals.

Discusting behaviour we went fór dinner last night Rude servise took straw out of our hand Darinks štartér to clean the table after us kedy the table tilted my husband couldnt get out couldnt wait till we finished food kept looking and waiting inpacantly our taxi driver event ask us how was it he said the servise is the worst IT Has ever Been and ješ never going back samé hore fór us

Great food. Great service. Very attentive. Little bit expensive considering the quality. Strange pricing for the deserts. Much more expensive than the local desert cafes.

The worst Khyber chicken karahi I have tasted they add extra Salt & when I told the waitress she just looked & walked away & check your bill before you pay they added 2 cokes for £7 that I didn’t order

Ignore all the negative reviews go and check it out yourself. Much better than as it was a year ago.

Under new management since the last time we visited I think. They do seem to specialise in cake but I can recommend the biryani. Very good indeed. Under new management again I think. The food is utterly gorgeous (see the vegetarian comments). We also had lamb madras and chicken jalfrezi, both of which were fantastic. Service was excellent too. It was a little cold in the restaurant but the food more than makes up for that. Highly recommend trying the Khyber Cafe!

This place is a culinary disaster compared to how it was a year lago! Not only have they doubled the menu prices and stopped using seasoning apparently - I can't believe they served me an overcooked sea bass drowned in mayonnaise. It was like eating rubber drenched in goo. To make matters worse, it was freezing cold inside, and the dim lighting just added to the misery. The whole experience was a nightmare. Save your taste buds and money £££££ – avoid this place at all costs!

Service is absolutely terrible ask for anything there’s no reply at all , no good vibe given off one of the waiters foods decent , service is horrendous would not recommend !!!

We've been there numerous times before, and today we went around 5:30 pm. We ordered some starters: Sheek kebabs (10/10, our favorite), some cheesy keema samosas (7/10). For the main meal, we had 2 Lamb Biryani (9/10), Lamb Jalfrezi (10/10), Garlic Keema Nan (10/10), and Boiled Rice. The food came on time, and we got our main meal straight after the starters. The food was amazing today; I'm not sure if we were hungry or if the food just tasted exceptionally good. We've never given such a high score to any food outlet before and the bill was reasonable, so we're definitely coming back again."

Okra bhaji was exceptional! And the biryani was soooo nice.

We used to come here often and we used to enjoy it but recently it doesn’t feel right. Feels like the quality of the food has gone down, the service is very friendly and polite but a bit slow at times. Also it is slightly overpriced for what they offer

Very very slow was told to come 20mins after ordering a takeaway took 55mins!! The place has gone downhill!

Not sure what went wrong here... only the Punjabi Chicken Karai was nice. Garlic Keema naan... the keema was bland and appeared uncooked. The chips weren't cooked for long enough and almost soggy. But the worst item was the Chicken Pakoras - basically small strips of chicken fried with spice marinate... these are not pakoras!! And charged £6 for them as a starter... so over £1.00 a pakora!!

The lady working here is always so lovely and works really hard. The food is delicious and I would definitely recommend coming here to eat.

Went 2 time but food and shakes with no flavours Bharmingham khayber and KPK khayber are awesome but this khayber just upset as Food should be with flavours not just masalas

The best chicken tikka I’ve ever had! The pilau rice was was very flavoursome- lots of spices and very authentic.

Very slow service only one member of staff taking orders, serving food/drinks and seeing to desserts and other requests…. would start serving someone else whilst dealing with your request. Good choice of food on menu but desi stuff we ordered wasn’t very tasty. Pizza was ok. Interior is nice to sit with family and ice cream selection is good.

Waiters were very friendly, just call them over and they're happy to help. I've been here a few times and the food has always been delicious. Lamb chops, vindaloo, nan bread, chicken mozzarella starter are what keep me going back.

Enjoyed our coffee and cake. Will be back again to sample the menu.

We held a small party here last week, the owner himself and his staff worked hard to make sure everything was done as requested. Food was freshly made and served for 25 people at the same time. Fantastic place, food & staff.

Nice dessert but you can t feel comfortable as much as all the staff look at u when you ead when you walk when you go to toilet can't feel comfortable

Went here with my partner and wow we will be back. The food came red hot, fresh and a good sized portion, the meat was cooked perfectly and the pizza was very tasty and fresh. Deffo be returning to try the desserts soon. Staff very accommodating and friendly too. Price is very decent for the portion size.

Popped in for chai and it was GREAT!

The food was flavourless and over priced. Presentation was decent. Had cornflake tart pudding for dessert, sorry but it tasted old and not fresh. Custard was nice. Just being honest. Improvement definitely needed.

My third time here and i am not disappointed. Best food I have eaten so far. The staff are very nice and polite. Compliments to the chef. I will definitely come back again

Delicious fresh food which arrived very quickly upon making order. The staff at this place are always lovely and friendly with great customer service especially a young lady called Fozia 🥰

My first visit to khyber cafe in newcastle food was outstanding ordered a punjabi karahi was mouth watering we also ordered a mix grill for 2 was amazing service was on point staff was very friendly they have a huge menu to select from including desserts will defoes recommend khyber cafe well done guys.

Food was ok but the quantity is not good for the value. It's a bit expensive halwa puri channa breakfast.

Delicious Nutella waffle! I would highly recommend using butter paper underneath the waffle to preserve the chocolate from being absorbed as seen in the pics. Also, i recommend adding student discount.

Absolutely fantastic as always. The service takes a little time but that's because they make everything fresh. Great menu selection and they're always happy to help with adjustments. Highly recommended.

Food is lovely, staff are friendly, only downside is the service is extra slow, but definitely worth the wait. Great parking and a good selection of food and desserts.

Initially better, but visited with DS today for breakfast, DS had halwa poori. The channa and halwa appeared reheated. DS has neen having tummy cramps , diarrhoea and vomiting since. Will never return at least for bfast.

I live in America but I’ve contemplated getting on an airplane just to go and eat here again. I tried their chicken Diane about 5 years ago and I still think of it often!

Possibly the worst food place in ncl, dined it for birthday party of 8 people which was booked in advance. However two people had to sit without eating due to burgers was uncooked and meat was fully red once arrived. Had to place another order which came after 40mins while everyone was eating. Mixed grilled for 2 was ordered which came out horribly wrong, no flavour, bland and very dry. Extremely slow service and had to wait over hour and 30mins for first order. Highly do not recommend this place at all. Don’t waste your money!

Staying in the local area currently and this place caught my eye as soon as I saw it. We were seated within a minute of entering. The menu has a lot of traditional Indian dishes as well as burgers, pizzas and a fantastic charcoal grill. I ordered the chicken Punjabi karahi, a dish I'd never heard of before tonight but got to know very well about 10 minutes later, and can honestly say it might be the best curry I've ever had. A bold statement from an overweight English bloke. Between that, the house rice and the grilled lamb chop I nicked off my partner's plate, I barely made it half way through my keema garlic naan. Shame, as I was eyeing up the impressive dessert counter too. There's always next time!

Nice food. Food has always been spot on for me. Staff are friendly. Nice atomosphere. Desi Tea is good here.

Worst customer service. Here are two examples: 1) I asked one of the waiters if they could provide jalapenos with the nachos. He said “yes” and walked away. Five minutes later, another waiter asked us what we asked for. It turned out the first waiter couldn’t speak English, said “yes” to us and went and called for help. I ignored this as I didn’t want to be pedantic as he did eventually get help. Later, that same waiter dropped off a chicken curry to our table. We were confused as we hadn’t expected this to arrive before our starters. A couple of minutes later, another waiter came to his rescue (yet again) by apologising and telling us the curry was meant for another table. 2) I asked the waitress (another staff member to the above example) what spice level to choose for the curries and was told to get spicy rather than medium as it was ‘apna style’. She contradicted herself straight away by saying it was ‘quite spicy’. I was confused by the contradiction so asked her what she would recommend out of the two spice levels. She unhelpfully replied with “How would I know what spice you would like?” Although somewhat true, it came across rude, unhelpful and inattentive. In the end, we opted to go for the spicy option rather than medium, as we are Pakistani and wanted “apna style” as the waitress advised. Once this arrived, it was inedible. Our main course was ruined. I later told the waitress it was “overly spicy” and she replied with, “I told you so”. That was annoying as she didn’t or it wasn’t clear. I think it could have been avoided with better communication skills and more of an effort to understand the customers’ requirements. 3) I had to take my son to the disabled toilets for a nappy change. I walked into an unlocked toilet only to find the same waitress in part 2, stood texting on her phone. She panicked when she saw me and walked out of the toilet. This looked unprofessional and gave the impression she was using toilet breaks to get some phone time. Each to their own, but maybe lock the door next time. If not me, her boss could have caught her which may or may not have looked good. Average food quality. Starters were average, main course was inedible due to picking the wrong spice but I reckon it would have been average too. Desserts were average apart from the bubblegum cake. This was disgusting and tasted stale - cost £9 too. Extortionate prices. This was really expensive for the poor customer service and food quality. I have been to much better places such as Akbars and Aneesas buffet that would have cost almost half the price. For 3 adults it cost: £110 for starters, mains and desserts. We came home devastated. Final verdict: Avoid this restaurant for savoury foods. Maybe go for dessert but expect the staff to be incompetent with very poor communication skills. Expect to spend a lot of money; these guys are charging London restaurant prices for average quality food in a cheap run-down area such as the West Road; it’s not exactly town, where you might expect to pay more. Rating this as a 2-star is generous in my view.

Although taste was good but service wasn't very good!! Very slow service!! Traditional desi items as well as pasta, BBQ, pizza, desserts and ice-cream!! Rates slightly more than average!! Parking on site available usually out of office hours!! Overall a good option specially if looking for Halal and desi!!

Really good food, we go here weekly, if not twice a week! The curries are amazing, so many choices for other kitchens if you wish. We tried the Sunday dinner a few weeks ago which was on point! I recommend cakes/deserts too. We have tried everything at this point and It never disappoints! Definitely going back again and again. Thank you to the lovely staff aswel!

Really great food and service, we’re very local and have been here a few times but each time had been excellent. We particularly love their milkshakes! Affha has served us the last couple of times we’ve been and she’s always lovely. Will definitely keep coming back!

Cool place…Good Food… Family Friendly!!!

Was very quiet when I went and the food was lovely. Staff were friendly and service was great. Nice seating if you can get the booths or seating by the window. Limited free parking is also available outside. The restaurant is also away from the busy congested part of west road so you do not have to worry about stressful parking issues.

Great place. Not the most modern decor wise but has a nice clean open plan layout. Food is great with a range of dishes from punjab to pizza and lots of dessert and cakes to choose from. Not too expensive either.

I normally love coming to Kyber Cafe but I was a bit disappointed this time because they took a long time over 45 minute wait for the food and then my side order was forgotten. My dessert was missing a topping. I’m not happy this time.

We got there for 8.30pm as it said on Google they close at 10pm. We were rushing to order because we didn't want them to be late with closing. Found out after the close at 11pm. The food was great. My husband enjoyed his meal and My children wanted the dessert so they ate a bit of the pizza. I order the meat lasagna which was OK but had no spice. Overall its was great my children loved it and staff were great and friendly too.
