How can the chips be burnt, soggy, greasy, hard and undercooked all at the same time I commend you on what should be an unachievable task what an extremely disappointing meal do not let this shops fancy look trick you worst chips in all my life

The food is fine here, not too oily and tastes good. However, since they started doing online orders with deliveroo / uber the waiting time is ridiculous. You can hear the online orders pinging through and the drivers hanging around outside having parked on the zig zags or anywhere else they fancy….meanwhile we all stand patiently in line. The poor staff look done in trying to keep up. I just wish they didnt do online orders and just served the people who turn up more quickly. Waiting 30 minutes to get a bag of chips is daft.

I ordered a child's meal for myself, (appetite not what it was!), the girl who served me was very rude, almost scathing, had to remind her twice I wanted salt & vinegar, her comment "not on a kids meal". No sauce was offered to accompany my kebab. I asked if I could have the meal in an adult box to be told, "not for a kids meal" The kids boxes are very flimsy, and the food was cold when I got home, about a mile from the store.... I had to zap it, which ruined it. The fact a number of senior staff were present, and they weren't busy, yet not one of them took steps to correct her behaviour. Very disappointing, I've been a customer for over 10 years, and will not be using Zanfish Littleover again

Further to a previous review - yes, the GF availability is great but we've now had a couple of meals that could have been better. The chips were flabby and rather greasy, and my fish was 90% batter. But, no doubt we'll try again.

Staff were friendly and helpful food was delicious and very hot.next time we are up this way will definitely be ordering from here again.

The Zanfish in Spondon has pleasant staff, but from ordering your food to getting it takes for ever, they are slow slow. The food is fantastic with large portions and great value.

Ordered and paid for 3x mini fish, chips and curry with a £1.50 side of Peas. Selected for ASAP collection. When I arrived I was told that I was early, the lady hastily put the order together. I arrived home to find no peas. The tiny fish was dry and of a grey colour ( not white) the chips were cold, hard, and tasteless. Were they lunchtime leftovers?. NEVER AGAIN.! Rubbish and poor value. I’m not going to bother about the £1.50 worth of peas, they would possibly be like bullets.

First visit in awhile, and won't be back quickly to Zanfish, slow service with only person in the place and three members of staff, ordered then found out not available, then a long wait for a regular fish, slow

Just this minute visited to order a fish for my partner. Female with glasses asked where our masks were. When informing her of our exemption, she rolled her eyes saying “That’s what they all say”, and was visibly hostile. The fish was lovely though.

Chips dry as a bone hard some almost like toe nails . One wonders in light of current situation if losses due to pandemic are trying to be recouped by reheating yesterdays left overs ....meat pie similar

Lovely service, food is always great! Prices are decent, more expensive than other fish and chip shops in the area but you are paying for higher quality.

Decided to try mini fish and chips twice. Most of it ended up in the bin. Chips were very old and fish was soggy. The batter should have been crisp. Absolute garbage - never again.

I visit every other week to get the mini fish meal for my elderly father. Its consistently superb quality, fish, chips and peas for £6. Lovely treat, friendly staff. Served in a convenient box. Always good!

Soggy oily chips and the fish was exactly the same. Another family member had a pie that must have been in the warmer too long as it was very hard on the sides but the top was soggy. It’s also been the same at the Stenson road branch on several occasions in a row so we won’t be eating at Zanfish again. Saddened really as we’ve been eating here for years and andards have definitely dropped.

Whether you eat in or have the takeaway this is a fine fish and chip provider. It has a wide array of foods to choose from. We like to have the cod fried in breadcrumbs. A simple dish that tastes wonderful. Only when you move away from your local area and try other fish and chips do you realise how lucky we are to have this family provider for your favorite fast meal. John Roseblade

The worst undercooked chips I have had in a long time went in the bin.They were dry and some were hard

Chicken Kebabs cost an astronomical £15.00 for two, Chicken was terribly dry and as hard as a ROCK (inedible).. it also tasted off..cold nan bread...we had to bin them. What a waste of money!!!!I feel robbed. Disgusting all round.

I ordered the Halloumi special. Thought that it would be grilled (the way that it should be cooked), but it was cooked in batter and was an inedible mush. Shame but as a regular custom I won't go again

I can't fault the food. BUT what I can fault is 3 members of staff laughing and pointing at an old lady having her lunch. We felt very uncomfortable, you may not have thought the lady could hear but she quiet clearly could. I won't be going again and I doubt that lady will. Truly despicable.

Afraid to say staff let it down , they don’t listen to order , no customer service , fish Ok but any thing else is disappointing , I will be trying to find some were else , I emailed them about my complaint no reply , that says it all not bothered with customers

It’s not easy these days to find fish and chip places where you can eat on the premises unless the name Harry Ramsden is over the door.

After a long journey, we were very tired and were looking forward to a fish and chip supper. It was a spectacular disappointment! The chips were better than the fish but that was not much competition. It had obviously "been around a bit" and was practically inedible. The batter was tough as leather and was so welded to the fish that it was impossible to remove. Virtually the entire fish was thrown away. As of the chips, they were of very poor quality. Pale and wan and tasteless and soggy and also leathery if that's possible! The mushy peas were ok but a price of £7.80 for one fish, small peas and small chips is a bit on the steep side. Especially since it was so poor. We'd been told that if you eat-in, the food was very different but since Zanfish is a takeaway outlet, the quality should be constant. This was not even mediocre and I can't see us visiting again.

Went to Zanfish in Heatherton village tonight at 19.20, asked for 2 potato fritters, to be told, we have none, it’s ok I don’t mind waiting. We have run out, I said, run out, are you kidding me, yes we have no cut potatoes, only chips! When we run out we don’t do anymore, that’s me done there.

Me and my family recently went in and ordered one of the 19.95 deals with the fish and chips. Well the chips were soggy the fish tastes off and the fish cakes were ransid! Uncooked and awful service as soon as we had finished eating we all felt ill and it made us ill. I don't think we will return !

My meal deal fish, being scrawny and cold, my measily chip portion also cold! one of the worst services i have ever had from Allenton store in all the 15yrs ive been a customer to under different trading names!

Visited here today and DEFINITELY will not be going again. Jacket potato was almost solid inside, baked beans portion was no more than a tablespoon and a sprinkle of cheese, I know this can't be there usual portion size as last month I had one with Cheese, beans and tuna mayo and portions on all 3 toppings were VERY generous and the potato was soft. Staff talked down to customers. Although I have an update food hygiene certificate common sense would tell anyone you DON'T chew chewing gum while you are serving food!! If I could give half a star I would have done. In future I will go to the Zan Fish at Heatherton as food and staff here always nice or the chip shop at Mickleover.

No excuse for this continual error. Not the first time it has happened but gave them the benefit of the doubt!!!

Here we are again in Zanfish, waiting for my nice chunk of Cod in breadcrumbs, with double-fried chips and their (very), mushy peas - which I already know will be wonderful. This is my favourite fish restaurant in the Derby area - and is one of eight extraordinary eateries - though the only one with a sit-down restaurant attached. So, if you’re anywhere near Littleover, just off the Southern Ring Road, pull in & park outside Iceland, then sit down in Zanfish and prepare for fish & chips at their finest. They even have a very naughty Sticky Toffee pudding on their dessert menu - if you have room!

Madre tomó para un almuerzo rápido en el área de comer. Tuvimos un cod y una solla, tanto servido con patatas fritas y guisantes blandos y una cerveza cada uno. Por £9. 25 cada uno incluye las bebidas (que también se puede tomar vino o un refresco), era una excelente relación calidad-precio. I visited Sinfin Zan fish last Friday night . It was very busy and had to wait a while , but it was worth the wait .The staff where pleasant and polite and served me quickly . Have been going to zanfish for an extended period of time now, and they do not disappoint when it comes to the quality of the food. However, my most recent visit left me with a sour taste in my mouth when they had no large fish in. A minor problem, I will admit that, but we don't all have 10 minutes to wait for one to be fried up. The line moves down relatively slow as well. All in all, a must visit for amazing fish and chips but do be prepared to wait. Thankfully, most of the time it is worth it.

I stopped by on my way into the city and just wanted a quick lunch. Attentive service from a young chap who cleaned my table and took my order.Food came very quivkly and was pipping hot. The portion was huge however looked very appetising. The fish was excellent. Superior quality flaky cod fish witch tasted heavenly. The chips and peas were not far far behind.The restaurant was very clean and tidy. Main thing is. Id definetley go back again

Never mind anybody else!Normally the heatherton one I visit but all the zanfish chippies are just on another level, the fish and chips are always perfectly cooked - dead crispy and bloody lovely.Kebabs are great too, and I'm a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to donner so mark my words, you won't be disappointed

This is a great place to meet with our friends as it is well placed for the shops. We always opt for a pensioner's size special fish and chips as you get just enough to enjoy to the last mouthful. The staff are always very welcoming and remember if you have visited before.

The fish is great - the shop is bright and clean. However, I really wish I could get a smaller portion of chips. I want a portion similar to what I would get in a restaurant and I would expect to pay about 90pence. The chip portion is okay if you can share them - but when I go it is usually just for myself and I love the haddock - but the portion of chips either defeats me - or I end up throwing some away. I sometimes opt for a home made fishcake instead of a wasteful portion of chips. Please - serve a smaller portion!

Me and my family always go to the village one absolutely fantastic quality food always fresh good portions and the staff there are very nice and friendly and smiling. I've eaten from alot of chippy in Derby and I have to say zan fish is the best for me I won't go anywhere else and all my family love it too and eat from there every week. I visited the Spondon Shop on Thursday evening and asked for Cod and Chips. I was asked of I wanted mini fish and chips and I said yes as it was quite late. The total for this meal was £4.80. The fish was large and the fish excellent quality-white with good crisp batter. The chips and mushy peas were very good. The whole meal was too large and this was a mini portion size. Excellent meal, the best we have had in a long time. The only downside is that Gluten free is on a specific night only and the shop that does GF all the time was too far to travel for us on that night.

Went to zanfish at SpondonWent here as was recommended to me.Wasn't disappointed!! Best fish and chips around and will go again. Bought large portion and shared with other half. Fish was fresh, white and chips where lovely. Great service too.

I stay and work in Derby about 9 months of the year and sick of hotel food one of the staff recommended zanfish and even though dubious I decided to go for it. I'm glad I did it's rated as the best fish restaurants in the derby area. I went to the one on Allenton Road. COD and chips it was a good size portion the cod was sweet and fresh and the batter light. What can I say about the chips I love earthy chips with scraps and they did it! Wonderful! An being more north than Watford I had the obligatory gravy fantastic. I will be going again and thoroughly recommend it. Can't go too often or I'll be a fat boy on tour. Staff were friendly and professional and it was a lovely meal that hit the right note. I'd recommend this to any business person who want a change the locals all recommend and rave about it and they're right! It was lovely

I called in here to order a cod and chips and the cod was cooked fresh so had high hopes. Sadly when I got it home I was horrified that the fish was grey and mushy. This had to be the worst piece of fish I have ever had and won't go back in a hurry

If you want quality fish and chips then the only place to visit is Zan Fish .The quality of food is good its always fresh and value for money also portions are huge.Which ever branch you visit the standard of everything is excellent.

All hail the Zanfish team in every shop they have, I am not afilliated in any way to the owners but I feel i have to sing out when a company "Gets it Right" Why? The Fish is consistent in all shops the portions are just right and the cleanliness is second to none. The staff are well trained and polite and if you would like to order food without queing then just call the shop in advance and it will be ready in 10 mins. All round it's no wonder they are expanding because as long as they keep up this business model is should turn into one of the UK's best fish and chip businesses ever!

Go to Zanfish in Littleover to meet with friends on a regular basis. The restaurant is such a friendly place where we are welcomed by Christine and sometimes The Boss. Seating is comfortable but tables a little small,this is more than compensated by the excellent meals and service provided by Christine or her Daughter.We are pensioners so get a special meal that includes tea.We usually have fish and chips but occasionally I have the home made fishcake which is out of this world.Well done Zanfish see you next time.

This is our local chippy and is definitely the best around! Delicious crispy battered fish and great non greasy chips. Portions are just right (if not a bit on the large side) - the meal deals being excellent value for money.

We have visited many fish n chip shops and this by far has to be the best my husband and I have ever tasted. We ordered Fish n Haddock with Peas, Gravy and Curry.It was so fresh and wonderful for sure we will return.Also the chippy was very clean. Good job to you all.

This Chippy used to be great but unfortunately over the last few months it has gone really hit and miss. Portion sizes vary depending on who serves you and the food is sometimes ok, sometimes barely edible. Such a shame!

Was back in derby visiting relatives and wanted a quick tea. Popped out to crest of the wave in Allenton, only to find it had changed to zanfish.But when folks are queuing out of the door, that's got to be a good sign surely?Yes it was, lovely crispy batter, great chips too.And scallops as well.All in all a great chippy.

I've often had takeaways from Zan fish and last Wednesday was the first time I had eaten in! I have say it was great! The service was extremely quick and they staff very helpful.

Never tried any of the Zan fish restaurants before however its been recommended a few times by friends and it definitely lived up to my expectations! The food was delicious, the portion sizes were huge and for the lunch time menu the prices are brilliant!

I love this chip shop. We eat in 9/10 times and it is just lovely.It is busy which I think is a good sign, the quality if the food is unmatched! I travel 10+ miles to eat in this fish and chip restaurant and always have a fantastic meal!Keep it up!

Best fish and chips in Derby by far. Eat in and take away. Menu choice is excellent and special diets catered for too. Staff are amazing and very friendly. Its like dining with family. Highly recommended.

I have been a regular customer ever since they took it over from the previous owners and for the customer it was very good news because these people have turned retail fish and chips from its British roots of being down market working class cuisine and reinvented it to lead the market for good quality food in a spotlessly clean environment that is astheticaly attractive and comfortable to be in. How? It is to my knowledge a story that goes back decades and springs from identifying their customers needs and wants and adjusting their ways to meet those needs in a disciplined and determined way. Myself I have noticed that if there are any lapses or mistakes they acknowledge them and learn quickly. In short they do not take their customers for granted. One only has to look at their competitors to see the chasm that exists in every department. My recent visit was at lunchtime where I had the OAP special of mini fish and chips curry sauce with bread and butter and a pot of tea served in the restaraunt. Lovely environment and very attentive staff who give evidence that they are enjoying your company and are constantly checking to make sure everything is exceptional. Another thing that caught my eye was that when a table is vacated, they are very quick to notice and service the table so that adjacent diners do not have to gaze at a used table. also as they set the tables they make sure that the cutlery is placed on the right hand side of the plate on top of the serviette and that the table is uniform. This is of course having a passion for your customers and takes effort which is in everyone's interest. HOWEVER the challenge is of of course when you achive such high standards it is then incumbent that you not just maintain but advance them. I always say if someone asks me am i satisfied with my performance? . No.You can always find ways to improve. If you stand still, you allow your competitors to overtake. So in concluding I say well done Zanfish and may it continue.

Visited on a busy friday lunchtime.The meal deals were good value for money. Service was slow on this occasion and found the chips to be very greasy & soggy.

Go here regularly and generally no complaints. The meal deals are great. Not yet eaten in the cafe but looks nice and usually quite busy. Staff all very friendly.

We try to eat at ZanFish in LIttleover at least once a week. The fish and chips are brilliant and the service even more so. We used to go to Georges years ago, and then Sea Fish at Ripley which we found better, now we always go to ZanFish and are totally satisfied. Friendly service, nice, very clean, but practical, surroundings. Fish always fresh and the place never smells of cooking unlike Georges. Prices are good too.

Several visits variously. The service and standard of fish and chips deserve high commendations for all their outlets. Littleover and Stenson Road are both exemplary in their service and frying. The level of care is as good as any restaurant - never mind fish and chip shops. Never had cause to regret. Love 'em!!

Having worked all over Britain and visited quite a few chippy s in my time, I'm really lucky to have the best on my doorstep . Really good quality and affordable food and generous portions.In the heart of Littleover with friendly staff and even tables for you to sit down you will not be disappointed

this has been our local chippy for a while and it is consistently good. The portions are genuinely huge (especially the chips where one portion feeds four of us). The best bit though is to eat in their cafe area. the staff are lovely and the food is better for not having been wrapped up. It's great as a takeaway, don't get me wrong, but straight to plate is hard to beat. They also do meal deals where you get a beer or a glass of wine with your food. I genuinely can't imagine a nicer chippy

This chippy has been here ages in Allenton , Derby but has recently been fully refurbished and brought bang up to date, and what a fantastic result. In a word it's a really classy joint, but with a twist, it serves very affordable food. I don't know how they do it to be truthful. We had home made fishcake, chips and one side with a cold drink and ate inside for £3.75p each. They have a very varied menu. The take away price for the fishcake and chips alone to take away was £3.25p, go figure! The food was cooked to order, piping hot and fresh. The portion size was enormous, we were stuffed. Our server was a friendly and attentive young lady who was cheerful and efficient. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and having discovered this little jem intend to make our visit a bi-monthly affair. Go check it out yourself, you won't regret it. Oh and lots of free parking, even right close to the entrance!

Great service from taking your order to leaving the restaurant. We had a selection of dishes including jacket potatoes, fish and pies. All were of high quality and the cod was crispy. The tables were clean and the decor modern and bright. The customer service was excellent both at the counter and in the eating area. The management should look at training some of their staff at the sister store Heatherton in the same manner. There seems to be a lot of turnover in young staff there who do not offer the same quality of service. For example, being told there are no potatoes left on a Friday to make fritters! I and many of my friends drive past Heatherton to eat at Littleover, one of the best fish and chips shops in Derby.

I used to go to the same place 35 yes ago when under different ownership (only changed few years ago) went back to revisit after all those years and this is one of the best fish and chip shops in the country huge portions and good fish. Only the magpie in Whitby beats it !!!

I'm a great fan of the traditional 'chippy' and I recently moved to littleover about a year or so ago and not far from littleover village and found Zanfish fish bar.The staff are friendly and now remember order as soon as I come in, and pop me a large cod in, I normally take my daughter with me and they're so polite with her, they also have a few internal offers on their menu which are excellent value for money.The portion sizes are a good size as well. If I have one gripe and it no way reflects on them at all, is don't go when the kids get out of school as it gets packed and the queue is long but the food is worth waiting for if you do!!

In the heart of Littleover is the fish and chip heaven that is Zanfish, you can eat in or take away, it is generally busy. Either way, it does not matter the food is freshly cooked and well present on a plate or wrapped. My wife and I visit regularly mostly to take away, but occasionally to eat in, when you get the food fresh out of the fryer - Cod, Chips and mushy peas are my favourite and are just superb, if it take your fancy you can get a glass of wine to accompany your meal.If you haven't tried it and like Fish & Chips give it a go, you won't be disappointed.
