Ocean Fresh in Derby

Dished me up a mixed meat kebab with chips which resembled something from a gynaecology ward clinical waste bin, and charged nearly £10 for it!! 🤢 Had to pack up eating halfway through as it became increasingly repulsive to look at, never mind eat! My last visit here.

Steves and ocean fresh is the only place for fish snd chips takeaway but not only a takeaway we go most months for a family meal of 10-20people and honestly never ever had a bad meal..so much choice for everyone, from fish&chips, to pizza, to kebab, to burger to souvlaki honestly the options are endless with great drinks options too. It is so friendly, we wouldnt go anywhere else for our family gatherings. George, Andrea and all the family are SO SO welcoming to us!! We wouldnt go anywhere else!

Order Uber delivery of haddock and chips x2, several kebabs etc at a cost over £50. Having collected food from shop previously, I recommended it to relatives from overseas. Most of the food ended in the bin. 2 haddocks crammed into one box greasy and soggy batter, fish not particularly fresh and overcooked. Chips were were undercooked, pale, soft and soggy. Meat in kebabs was dry. So very disappointed so no more custom from me or family. Couldn't believe the difference in quality.

Just brought chips. Got home and they were reheats. Should not be allowed!

Great food and a superb family run business. The best place to eat in mickleover and derby. Two large cod and 1 large haddock and chips. So yummy and the crispy golden batter really is a treat.

Nearly always great fish and chips. Not great if not very busy. But more than often lovely, especially the battered cod

Absolutely disgusted with the portion size of the mixed meat and chips for 9.50! It was that small I could even shut the lid! Not impressed at all. Was such a good place aswell but I definitely won’t be making that mistake again of wasting my money at this over priced place.

Absolutely shocking at the food and also the price. It’s gone completely downhill. Portion sizes have decreased massively and prices have shot up. Will definitely not be going back. Waste of money!

Not been here for a good few years but was in the area. Was quiet so had to wait a bit but it was awful just like I remember. Batter was just too thick and insanely greasy and inside the fish had a strange taste. Defo barely won’t be bothering again it’s clearly not improved, for fish and chips at least can’t comment on anything else they do.

Excellent food and service. Cooked to order so couldn't be fresher. The Cod and chips and fish Goujon were excellent. Curry sauce is a must. Will definitely be back.

What a shame! This place used to be fantastic, with friendly service and great food. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they have changed ownership in the last year or so, however I had a very poor experience a couple of nights ago and quite a rude lady behind the counter (Manager/Owner?) The large fish, was soaked in oil on the bottom, which all stuck to the "greaseproof" paper and removed the whole underside of the batter?? The curry sauce was "gluepy" and had a strange aftertaste? The Saveloy sausage was stone cold too, maybe it had been sitting in cold water?? Not an experience I would like to replicate, which as I said is a shame because it used to be great!! Please can you give people what they are paying they're hard-earned money for...

Slow service and then the chips were cold when I finally got them. It is also expensive, won’t be going there again!

We have used this takeaway for 30 years but since using uber the quality has dived. We have threatened lots of times to stop using them but loyalty has made us go back. Not this time. We ordered at 15.05hrs with a 15-25 minute delivery time. It arrived at 15.50hrs and was obviously freezing so I asked the driver how many other deliveries he had done first. He said none so therefore the food must have left Ocean Fresh cold. £37 wasted ! As it was too cold to enjoy. Did it even come from Ocean Fresh ? I used to love the food at this place and feel sad to say that I would not recommend it to anyone now if it was from there. You can see from the photos what we left

Just moved into the area and we wanted a doner and chips. Really great meal. Glad we have you around the corner! Great service, generous portion, non greasy, and it all went down well. Thanks Steve and team. We'll be back!

Not the 1st time dining at Steve's fish bar in Mickleover,certainly wont be the last Always beautiful food cooked fresh and service so nicely. Would recommend highly finest Fish and Chips in the area for sure. Tried the Seafood platter today was excellent no less than i would have expected.

This chippy is just bad and customer service is shocking. I went there a year ago and I asked for slight amendment in my order: I just wanted some greek style chicken and some chips on the side, I was told by a rude guy wearing glasses, “that’s not on the menu” , the menu item was a wrap with the same chicken and chips on the side. Now, was I being awkward just not wanting the wrap but just the chicken? I was told “I can’t just make up the menu every time someone asks me” .. way to go to run business! Not impressed at all. Now I just went few hours ago , the young man serving me had his head up his back side: splashed salt and vinegar to everything I ordered without asking me and I didn’t want any, made me a mixed meet tray when I ordered only chicken, and on top of that I ordered a pot of beans and when I got home I found a pot of gravy. Very, very poor. Definitely won’t be going there again.

Came for dinner break, clean premises. google scores determined my visit. Only two chippies in the area. Average and bit on the expensive side.

Service was quick. Food reasonable. A bit pricey.

Tandoori chicken was all stewed from the bain Marie looked and tasted awful, seemed like it had been in there all day,threw it away and at £9.00 a pop??not its usual standards. Please let's have a quality check guys.

Absolute rubbish. Food all cooked at different times, some hot, some lukewarm. Messed the order up. Kept waiting for such a long time.

What a shame - the food here is actually tasty (although portion size is too large imo). The service however is so poor I will never visit again. Following an input error ( on their part ) I was incorrectly charged to the tune of £1. The extremely disrespectful woman serving demanded payment of the £1 and with no apology for their mistake talked herself out of any future business from me or my family. Please invest in some customer service training for staff . Well - her for sure.

I usually get takeaway rather than eat in. Great quality at a very fair price. I reccomened the souvlaki

Mate I PAID about £21 quid for a fish and chips! I pay for Uber one so I got it for like 17/18 quid! I will never order this again this should never cost more than a 7 quid😂😂😂 Oh I got some curry sauce too 🤣😂

The chips were cold and damp today. I also felt quite annoyed at the poor service - it’s not hard to smile at customers and say thank you. Found the man quite rude.

I definitely think it's the best fish and chips in mickleover. Doner is excellent, portion size is generous. Tandoori chicken not as expected very bland .I didn't get the taste of masala. Can be improved with some extra spice, tangyness Parking can sometimes be an issue. Chilli sauce definitely needs to be rethought off.

great souvlaki possibly the best in derby.good service, reasonably priced and fairly good selection. been on numerous occasions and have never been disappointed

Went here today with a group of friends to celebrate the anniversary of our group and to celebrate a couple of birthdays We were greeted my a young lady who was very pleasant and was our waitress Most of the group had the fish whilst 2 had meat pie and 1 had the vegetarian option which was garlic mushrooms and a vegetarian spring roll The comments around the table was very favourable The food was of ample portions too much for some An array of hot drinks went down well with the birthday cake. All of the group had a great experience in lovely surroundings complete with a fish tank of colourful fish.I can highly recommend this restaurant for its varied menu and good value .Well Done! Had the takeaway before which was amazing Had delivery before which was great And today we tried the Restaurant. My partner had the Beef Burger which came with Chips and we thought it was fantastic value at around £7.50 as you could easily go to any other Restaurant and pay £15+ for what he had. It was also presented really nicely. Next time I am going to try the Halloumi burger. I had a bowl of chips and the breaded mushrooms which were both lovely. We were served by a young lady (didn't catch her name) but she was really nice and welcoming so thank you to her. Everything was really clean and the seating was comfy. Will definitely be coming back.

This was our first visit to Ocean Fresh at lunchtime. Saturday lunchtime and we fancied some fish and chips. A lovely clean restaurant that serves not only fish and chips but a large selection of English and Greek meals. It's also licensed. We enjoyed our fish and chips, obviously cooked fresh with thin crispy batter. Together with a bottle of Chardonnay, a truly enjoyable meal. We'll be back, not just at lunchtime for fish and chips but in an evening to try some of the main dishes on the menu. Despite being fairly local, we've missed out on this gem for too long. Speaking to the staff, it seems that booking is advised.

Very clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is very tasty

When vacationing in the UK, we had fish and chips at various locations, but the one we had at Ocean Fresh was, by far, the best tasting F&C, period. And the next day, we returned for another round, but changed plans and got the doner meats. Again, the quality was absolutely top notch!!! A definite must have if you are spending time in Derby.

Ordered a battered sausage which was over cooked. Chips were good though

Shocking place. The worst kebab I've ever had with slimey, tasteless chicken. Chilli sauce didn't even have any chilli in. Chips were soft and oily not nicely cooked. Wouldn't go again!!

I’m annoyed at myself. I went here 2 years ago and it was rubbish and I returned this week..Chips soft and box goes soggy. Chicken kebab is slimy and has no taste. Exactly the same poor quality.

Very diappointed not to be able to buy drinks with food. They have too steps into the shop and no ramp. The owners wire previoysly had said just to ask if you needed help. Soi asked what drinks they had but they couldn't be bothered to help. Why board up access. But they help someone with obvious disabilities. Likewise there menuis above thw counter so i cant aee it. Just ask she said but i darent as they dont want to. Portion size was smaller than normal and lukewarm. This chippy must be making far too much moneyif they can afford to turn away £5ish for 3 bottles of pop. Last time i wrote a review they asked me to remove it. But i wont until ypu do something about your ablist attitude. The whole point of a sunflower lanyard is to let people who work in an establishment that you have hidden diaabilities. Some bother going here if ypu have disabilities as they news aware training in this matter. They think the term guide dog is acceptable not assistance dog. Go v shack much better. Rhere uaed to be a ramp n int he restaurant with access to the takeaway side. They cant say i have the attitude as i waited without saying word.

I have only been a dozen times this year since trying it out Steve's march. Very nice fish. Chips can be hit and miss but with our current stock of potatoes, I don't hold it against them. Fish and chip portions can be a bit all over the place. Have ordered a large fish once or twice to get just over a half of a half side of cod or haddock. We always order a small chips but sometimes get a medium and sometimes get a cones worth. Chicken kabab was really nice though I ended up being ill the next day though. Still finished off the left over half for lunch... 🤣 Curry sauce is very good. Peas are neon green though... Can't wait to try out some of the other menu items.

As been said by others over priced and no help in ordering I wanted a few chips and donner meat on a nan, and got charged £10.20 I found out after ordering looking at their website there was a cheaper option this should of been suggested buy senior staff . Ended up with far to much food that got chucked away .

We used to be regular customers at Ocean Fresh but got out of the habit during Covid. Today, therefore, was our first visit for a couple of years. First impression was that it's still immaculate. Service still friendly and efficient. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu to find that, in spite of soaring fish prices, the standard fish and chip meal is only £11.20. Drinks are still exceptionally good value. The food was up to expectations, very fresh and generous portions. We shall definitely become regular customers again.

Had fish and chips here twice in the past few weeks the first time was Excellent , on the second visit the fish had an ammonia taste which tells me it should have been fresher ! Did not make me I’ll ! But got me thinking !

It's not the best, it always amazes me how they offer you a "10p" bag. At the prices they charge I'm sure they could give them away!

By far the best chippy in Derby been to quite a few and this place is amazing from the food to the staff its a 10 out of 10 from me. When you come here like myself for the past 25yrs you know what to expect- the best fish N chips.

Visited with two grandchildren (2 & 4), friendly, helpful and fast! Great fish and chips, will definitely visit again!

We come here regularly maybe 1 fever 3 months and the battered Sausages are the best! Perfectly Crispy on the outside. The chips are massive portions and the curry sauce is delicious. My 4 year old loves the kids meals which is a small battered fish and chips there are other choices too. Very good value for money! We wouldn't go anywhere else.

Ordered online for 6pm. Arrived bang on 6pm and it was waiting for me. Hot and fresh. It was the best fish and chips I've had for along time. We have a meal for 5 of us and all the meals were 110%. Highly recommended

We are regular restaurant and takeaway visitors. Today 6.15 on 12th January I collected my gluten free large haddock small chips and large peas. NO BAG!!!!!! By the time I got home the fish and chips were almost unwrapped, fish was very soggy. Oh dear. What happened tonight. Usually great food and service. Totally et down and very disappointed. I will try again another week but look forward to your response.

Everything were delicious and fresh. The fish and mixed meat were tasty and full of flavor. Generous servings as well. Worth it. Highly recommended and will definitely order again in the future.

I hold Steve's up as the gold standard for what a chippy should be. They're reliably good quality. On Wednesday they serve gluten free fish and fritters.

It's a 5 out of 5.... Very good fish and chips.... Nice to have a side of curry sauce included.... However wife's salmon with Hollandaise sauce should have really come with some vegetable offering... Rather than having to order a side of garden peas... Feedback is a gift... The meal was as ever 5 out of 5. Just wished business could open more than 4 nights a week...

Have used this chip shop for 30 years and it's been great. Today was a big wake up call. Prices had gone up between £1 and £2 . The kebab meat and chips came without the usual salad. Oh and everything was ice cold . In fact all of what we ordered was rubbish. Hope you enjoy your new relationship with Uber

What a let down the chips were under cooked soft and almost white and lukewarm. The fish was in crunchy batter and was hot but on removing lots of batter there was not a large fish.

Sooo nice. Have known about this place for so long but always assumed they only did fish and chips. Lots of Greek selections and pizza. I went for a souvlaki, and it was absolutely delicious. Prices were rally reasonable too. Think it would be great to bring the kids too.

I went here thinking that the food would be your standard chip shop food, but I was pleasantly surprised. The chip have been very nice everytime I have gone there, always chrispy. Further more the fish they do are very tasty, I've only been in the restaurant once or twice but they have delivered my food to me promptly. Edit: Recently with covid 19 being in place they have added screens and have also added a door in the window for collections, the screen don't feel like that are in your way and the door as made it much easier for me to be able to collect my food as I o ly need to wait there for my order to be ready.

The fish which is always cooked fresh is amazing, the chips are good too, this is a good quality chip shop and when their dine in restaurant is open the portions are big and tasty.

the eat in restaurant when open sells great food with huge portions. the drinks are good to. the fish is especially fresh and cooked to perfection.

Without a doubt this is the best takeaway for fish, chips, pizza and Greek food. However I think I will not be using it again due to the £4 delivery charge for anywhere, even a mile away 😥

Really great experience. I had a Ocean Special Chicken Meat 🍖, Doner Meat and Chips in a tray plus salad. Proper tasty and the portion was super filling. A lockdown treat even though I'm supposed to be eating healthy... 😆 Really polite staff greeted me on entering. Three customers at a time due to C19. Worth the wait... also free parking right outside the store. I recommend you give them a try.

We had a small fish and chips each open, as it was a very cold night we thought it would be nice to eat them on the walk home. The fish was fresh and very delicious and the chips were awesome a very nice experience that we hope to enjoy again soon. A1++++

Definitely best chip shop for miles ! As usual the fish and chips were top quality and the kebab was huge and packed with .eat and salad. As for the pizza - wow ! Best one I have ever had. Thanks
