Called in here twice in one week while at work in the area. Absolutely lovely chips and that's important for a chippy because while most other items are the same whichever chippy you visit, the chips being cooked right are what makes it stand out from the rest. I was at first taken aback by the older lady who works there, she came across as a bit rude at first, I asked for curry sauce and when she asked which type, chip shop or Chinese, I replied "oh it's got to be chip shop style" and she mocked me and repeated what I said, which at first I thought was rude but I soon realised she is a tough old leathery boot and that's just her sense of humour, which is fine with me as she reminded me of my Nan's personality. Service is fast, the food is delicious big portions too. I would definitely come back again.

Go to Shelton fish bar every Friday to get fish & chips for my father who is 86 & I’m convinced him having they’re quality food every week is one of the reasons he’s still going strong keep up the good work ,all the staff are fantastic & helpful.

Actually never been in as I was working in the co op next door but all the customers and my colleagues that came in all say its amazing..my colleagues even went in for their dinner ! Will definitely try it!

Nice food. Big portion sizes. The batter wasn't what we expected, didn't have the normal crisp that you get. Was like a flat batter. Chips were OK, scampi nice. Good service. Friendly! Relatively busy but great order to take out time.

The chips were undercooked and soggy. My partner had fish which he said was fine. We also had a tray of chicken tikka meat which was just vile as it had loads of crunchy cartlidge bits in it, we couldn't eat it. We're not sure how it's been voted the best chippy. The lady serving was very friendly though.

Tues night, arrived 830pm fish was cooked to order which is normal ....was told 10 mins, 25 mins later was still waiting...at 850pm people were still walking into the shop, (5 people waiting) yet the manageress refused to put the rumbler on to make more chips as they had ran out. If the shop is open until 9 you need to make sure you've got enough chips for your orders, saying "I'm not turning the rumbler on at 2050" and talking about payrises to the boss, isn't acceptable! It was clearly too much trouble to grab a peeler and do a few by hand to forefill customers orders too, they wouldn't have a job if they worked for me!! paid £4.20 for a large chips and after getting home and opening them up hoping to share them with my son, to find enough chips to feed the cat is a joke!! sharing the remaining chips out between the customers that were left in the shop when they are paying full price for their order is not on!! especially as the order was placed 30 mins before closing time, that would explain why they offering free pies sausages to people to make up for the fact there were no chips because the staff were too Lazy to make any. Although the fish was nice, the batter was very thick and stodgy, peas were dry. Was really looking forward to trying Shelton Lock out as heard so many good things about the place but was disappointed beyond belief, Iv never in my life waited 25 mins in a chip shop to then walk out with half my order. What a s*** show.

We've lived in derby for a long time but this was the first time trying Shelton lock fish bar, and I'm not going anywhere else. Excellent traditional fish and chips, delicious delicious white fish, good chips and the portions are very generous, highly recommended. I'm just sorry to be this late to the party!!

I have to say that on a Saturday night the week before Christmas the queue was long, not unexpected given how good this chip shop is. But to see how hard everyone works behind that counter and the food was still absolutely top notch. Well done to all.

Great chippy! We had a child's fish goujon meal with chips and curry and a large fruit shoot for£4.50. Worth every penny and would easily do an adult. The goujon was the size of a mini fish with loads of chips, and genuine fruit shoot, not a cheap look- a -like. Clean place, friendly, efficient, polite staff. I'll definitely go again and have no hesitation in recommending👍🏻

The BEST chip shop in Derby, despite 3 chip shops in walking distance from me I would sooner get the car out and come for my fish and chips from the Shelton Lock Fish Bar, forget Zanfish, George's and Steve's they haven't a clue . 5 plus stars.

If I got to complain about something, it’s their customer service. I had an awful experience when I came for collecting an order. I was in the queue and was about to collect an order, but a few teenagers were mimicking my accent, which was not something I could stand for, but the restaurants have no say on that. They didn’t even bother to speak up against those bullies. The restaurant should either bring up or stand on discrimination policy. They shouldn't be watching silent when people face discrimination within their premises. Also, I’ve been a regular customer of this place, but on very few occasions, I had a good experience with their service. I know it's not good to give 1 star for the experiences I had with their customer service considering the quality of the food. I’ve now changed my rating to 3 stars.

Regular customer of SLFB, having lived in the area for some time now. When my family visit it's always rave reviews following a 'chippie tea'. Don't realise how great they are at SLFB until you go elsewhere and you wished you'd waited until you got home!

sorry but was the best chip shop in derby,but not now. gone downhill since covid. chips nowhere near as nice any more and the same with the sausages. think they are cutting costs on the potatoes they buy in and the same with the frozen sausages. last 3 visits have been poor. will try and find better now somewhere else.

Visited Kendel Jade hair who is based here. Got in with a consultation appointment for my 12 year old daughter, she was very friendly and put my daughter at ease as she has a bit of social anxiety. Was happy to go through ideas, talk about how her hair would be, came back the next week for the haircut decided, my 12 year old was thrilled to bits with her new look. Relaxing atmosphere, lovely set up. I reccomend her. I will be going back with my own hair requirements soon.
