Zany was a great character to Chinese food fresh and good customer service but I've noticed the food is quite lacking taste and warmed up tasteless food as a disappointment to chips have been reusable to the rice bland without taste delivery is cash only with card payment on pick up Car parking is only 15m due to the pub has paid parking More disappointing points to the good points Also not available on a Monday evening

Slimy chicken balls raw chips told to bring take away back! Overall waste money an everyone felt unwell after family of 5. Won’t be back

Ordered a takeaway of a few item which one of the items was sweet and sour chicken balls. I drove the 8 miles to pick this up payed for it and then drove home. When un packing the Chinese there was no chicken balls I rang them up and told the young lad ( who has no customer skills) that I was missing my chicken balls to be told to go and pick them up I told them that I live 8 miles away so can they deliver them they said no. I asked for a refund and they hung up, I rang back and asked to speak to the manager to be told no I eventually got the refund after a couple of attempts. I will never eat here again. Very rude and incompetent staff

We ordered from Zan on a Saturday evening and all agreed it was the best Chinese takeaway we’ve ever had. Great menu selection, top quality and very generous portions. It took just over an hour to arrive which was expected given it was a Saturday night, but the food arrived hot and fresh. The food wasn’t sticky and greasy like other takeaways we’ve had in the past. Would thoroughly recommend!

After seeing some bad reviews I was sceptical about ordering, however ordered here a few times now and never has let me down, great tasty Chinese food!!!

We had a fixed price takeaway meal for two. Whilst being more expensive than nearby other Chinese takeaways, it was certainly high quality.

We phoned to order a take away from Zan’s and we were really surprised with how nice it was given that a lot of reviews on TripAdvisor are slightly negative. I’m Vegan and found they ad a lot of choices to suit my diet. When we ordered they weren’t sure on how many fritters in a portion so we ordered 2 and they phoned back to say there a lot in it so we said one portion would be enough and it was. Nice on the phone too. Everything was hot and tasty. Will defo be ordering from them again.

As our friends fancied Chinese food, we once again used Zan in the centre of Hawkhurst , about 5 miles from their house. Phoned order & went to pick up meals . As we have had various parts of our order missing last visit - which I made a point to the young assistant- we tried our best to check the contents , left in front of the window of the premises- shooing away flies .. although, in vain - turned out we were short on the spring rolls my partner ordered.. I’m fed up with the poor service of this takeaway, it’s expensive- the restaurant (although temporarily closed) was another poor experience previously, and if our friends want Chinese food, we will bring it from another shop- I will not use this one again.

Excellent take away. Great service Ordered over the phone. Went along to collect our order at the appointed time. Order was ready within 5 minutes. Alwas welcomed by staff. Great food.

We called to place an order for delivery. We were put on hold and after 5 minutes of holding, they then hung up on us without a word! How rude. We kept calling back only to get an answering machine saying that there was no one to answer the call. Horrible delivery line service!

Me and my partner love a Chinese takeaway, and are very fussy when it come to food, we have tried so many Chinese takeaways over the years, but Zan is by far the best Chinese takeaway we have had! Quick delivery and the food is always hot and on point. Would highly recommend!

We drive a 40 minute round trip for this take away and its always been wonderful food, pipping hot. The staff are always very polite and helpful. We eat in last night for the 1st time and did the £19 per person. CLEARLY states if you waste food or wish to take it away with you £5 fee per dish will be charged and too right too, there's no need to be wasteful. States in on the menu and the staff also made that clear about charges as we ordered. Really lovely meal and split lots of dishes between us which was lovely. As said in the other reviews the restaurant is cold which is the only down side. But we will be back to eat in or have further take aways.

There was no atmosphere as we were the only ones eating in. The staff showed no real interest in us even though they clearly weren’t busy, in fact they didn’t engage at all even when putting food in front of is. One dish was more onion than chicken but when it arrived it looked as though there was a lot on the plate. The other dishes were ok. I had to put my coat back on as it was so cold, radiators were no on and the heater next to us didn’t work. No staff noticed this! Really disappointing.

Worst takeaway I’ve been too. Rude staff. Took 2 hours to get my food and it was cold twice in a row so will not be going there again.

We have eaten here a few times. Decided one Sunday lunchtime we would eat there again. We walked in, Chinese girl greeted us with ‘yes’. We said we would like lunch, ok. Given the menu, which was half the size that it was previously. We decided on the eat as much as you like menu. We ordered four starters, which were excellent, asked for small portion of squid, but were told no as it is already portioned! We then decided on duck, we ate about half. My husband who has COPD, doesn’t each much sometimes because of his condition, as he finds it difficult to swallow. However he decided he would like 1 portion of rice with 1 chicken dish, to finish. We were told NO you haven’t eaten your duck so you can’t have anything else, unless you finish it first. Or if we wanted to buy a plastic dish for £5 we could take it home! I was shocked, reminded me of school. We paid and left Should also say there is no heating and it’s freezing in there.

Family birthday dinner. We were a bit apprehensive as reviews were very mixed. We needn’t have worried. The food was superb. Not much atmosphere as we were the only customers, nevertheless, we all enjoyed our meal and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend. The only complaint is that the restaurant was freezing!

Please avoid at all cost even if you are hungry crap outfit, ordered delivery at 7, still not arrived by 830 to be told on its way left 10 mins ago, call back at 9 to say order lost!! Would have been much better if they said can’t be bothered to deliver try someone else we don’t value customer service thanks very much for nothing 1 star too much for them

We used to order from another takeaway in Hawkhurst, but the quality has dropped, so thought we would take a chance on Zan. We had visitors staying, so ordered a large quantity of food. We then realised they could deliver! Bonus! Nobody had to go out and I paid over the phone by card. They said it would be delivered in about 45 mins. We were really shocked when the food arrived only 35 mins later. It was a big box full, including free prawn crackers. The food was hot, plentiful and absolutely delicious. We all really, really enjoyed it and agreed it was the best Chinese takeaway we’ve had for a long time. Will definitely be using them again! Loved the satay chicken!

The staff were helpful, the food was excellent and the service was super quick. The food was lovely and hot, not overly large portions, reasonable price for the area, but we loved the food so much we ate there again the next evening

Food was lovely, reasonably priced. Prawn crackers on arrival which was nice and fortune cookies with the bill. We made the mistake of not mentioning to the waitress that we wanted to do the special offer of £19 order as much as you can eat when ordering food, but she did reluctantly change the bill. If doing this offer, please take note that they may charge you for any wastage/leftovers. Overall we had a lovely meal and would like to go back soon.

So I just spent 40 quid on take away for myself and the mrs. Got it home to find all the food was inedible. Duck was as dry as ghandis flip flop and dont even get me started on the horrifically over cooked chicken balls and rice. I called to let them know the food was awful to be told food was fine when it went out but offered 10% off my next order. Now this just isnt acceptable! Now this wasnt the first time I've eaten from here but it will definatly the last! Stay clear unless you have no taste buds.

Hubby and I popped in for a meal after a visit to the local cinema. The food prices are ok BUT OMG!!! £6.40 for two small lime and sodas was extortionate and the most we have ever paid. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING!!!!!

we have eaten in and also had many takeaway's from this restaurant every time the food has been perfect. the service is good but the decor could do with a little updating but will eat here many times.

Zans Chinese in Hawkhurst used to be very good. It may still be OK as a takeaway but the restaurant is not that busy anymore. It was empty when we went on Monday. The service was poor. A small boy was crawling under our table looking for his mobile phone which was very annoying. We paid £65 off the menu for 2 which we found expensive. Eat all you want for £19 each is better value but certain things are excluded.

WE had a takeaway last night for 5 people. The standard of the food was excellent. I particularly liked the Duck and pineapple, but all of the food was great. They also gave us Prawn toasts free of charge. A really good meal at a very reasonable price.

Just the two of us. Tested it a few weeks ago one Saturday lunchtime and it was so good we went back again. High hopes that were surpassed by the service and top food. We love it! We will be going back time and time again. Well done to everyone there!

Just uninspiring very dull barely edible food, nice staff - but crikey they need to up their game - the restaurant is in a great situation, they could have a cracking restaurant if they could get it together, but I wouldn’t return as things stand! A real shame!

10 of us ate. Very quiet not a lot of atmosphere. We had the £19 each as much as you like but laughed at the note on the table if we left any a surcharge of £5 each would be charged. Food was ok service not bad but nothing special. Whole place could do with a makeover and clean.

This is not a pleasant dining experience. This is basically a Chinese takeaway with some tables. The food is average but the overall experience is poor. We were rushed through our meal and charged £45 and we didn't even order alcohol. The service charge was added to our bill and not properly itemized. Avoid at all costs. Use one of the two takeaways opposite.

Avoid at all costs. Had a delivery from this restaurant assumed it was ordered by our other halves who were on their way home as receipt had our address and phone details listed and a card receipt showing it had been paid. Served up the food for the children and ourselves leaving food for our other halves who returned and said they hadn't ordered anything. At this point it was too late to take it back and roughly an hour later a staff member showed up on our doorstep demanding payment. We explained the situation getting no where fast. Things then became heated unfair words were used I.e. calling us racist. We were regular customers of this restaurant and things could have been handled much better on their part considering they had messed up not us. We will not be using again.

Myself and my wife ate there recently for the first (and last!) time, having recently moved to the area.

Had a great meal tonight Saturday 7th April food very hot and tasty, the service charge has gone which is great news. Now all that needs to happen is a few little changes and the villagers of Hawkhurst to get behind the staff to keep this restaraunt on an upwards direction and we will have 2 great sit downs with the Indian as the most popular at present. Sorry guys but on this occasion only the food was not as expected, if it was warm would have been a bonus,always been ok but this visit was not acceptable, time to find somewhere else

Only recently moved into Hawkhurst to find this gem of a Chinese. Not only do they deliver, but the salt/chilli squid is absolutely delicious, along with everything else on the menu. The only thing I would fault would be the squid is not as crisp when delivered (understandably), but still divine. Will continue dining here.

Went there for Chinese takeaway had to wait a Long time not very friendly, also food was to a poor standard will not be returning again.

Been here to eat and food was tasty and staff was friendly, however it was extremely cold for a restaurant. I was hoping to warm up after being outside, but the radiator seemed to be off, even though we was told that they had turned the heating on.

Just what you would expect good wise, though delicious dumplings. The waiter who probably owns it was very pleasant too. Reasonably priced.

The food was not great, service non existence and the bill was shocking. There was 15% service charge and all in Chinese so couldn't check. Never again.

Last time I ordered it took 3 hours to Derliver but I thought I would give them a another try because they might off been really busy lol Never again £7.50 Derlivery I live just up the road so I had to pick it up and then they only took cash so had go cash point the sesame prawn toast only had about 3 bits for 4.50 the dishes are expensive and really small portions I can get double the food and £10 cheaper at the other Chinese in head corn for the same food order .never go back lady was really rude as well never ever again messed my evening meal up twice won't be a 3rd time

Three of us went here and althoughthe food was beautiful it was rather expensive for the amount of food, as we were the only people in here there was no atmosphere, the staff were friendly

I first dined at Zan over 30 years ago and living locally frequented it on a minimum monthly basis. It was great for family meals as well as the occasional 'date night'.This was the first time I had been back for 15 years and I can only say just how good it still was. Great food and super service at a fair price.We had reservations at the neighbouring Kino cinema and advised of this upon arrival at Zan. Our whole meal was orchestrated to ensure that we enjoyed he experience and were able to leave with time to stroll to the cinema and get seated in time for the start of the main feature.Well done to the chef and the staff, particularly the young folk who waited on us.

I like the resturant, I like the food, I like the staff, I like the way they are improving. However I don't like the service charge I have eaten here several times and will always tip. But I do suggest the service charge is dropped

I think the restaurant has been taken over in the last year, we had a takeaway last night and while some of the food was nicely presented it wasn't as good tasting as before, We had the hot platter for 3 which seemed like it was for 2 small quantities and no won ton. The chilli prawns were good but there was only 6 in the portion, we had ordered half a crispy duck but we received a disappointing box of minced duck meat, no crispy skin and the meat had been very finely minced not at all nice. The bill for this was over £45 for a takeaway, for this I would expect a lot more food of good quality, won't be rushing back.

Had a takeaway from here on Saturday 8th Oct. It was great food. I had it delivered so I didn't even need to leave the house. Food was piping hot and tasted great. Would recommend to my friends.

Quick early evening meal on the way home. We enjoyed a noodle dish and the waiter explained to us how to make it at home, it was particularly well seasoned and very tasty. My partner enjoyed beef in black bean sauce with egg fried rice. It couldn't have been more appetising.The ambiance is very Chinese with bright colours.Apparently their Chinese New Year banquet is one to remember.

We had a nice meal the Lemon Chicken was fresh batter thin and hot very tasty too. Rice was good. The starters chicken satay very good and peanut sauce excellent. The ribs nice very sticky sauce we needed a finger bowl. Overall it was enjoyable.

We travelled over 30 miles as this restaurant was recommended to us and as we are always keen to try another Chinese restaurant we decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself was not that busy for a Saturday night but seemed to have a good take away trade. We had to wait a bit longer than we wanted to for our food but when it did come it was very nice indeed. However when we asked for the bill we thought it was a bit on the high side so we queried it ( it was in Chinese) we were told there was a mistake on it and they had also added a service charge of 10% which we were not aware of, after getting the extra costs taken off and also the service charge taken off our bill was reduced by nearly £15. Unfortunately we will not be going back as we were made to feel it was our fault there was nobody who came to the table to apologise, to provide any goodwill gesture, so if you decide to go and eat there check your bill carefully.

Meal was OK but when the bill came in it was clearly wrong to the extent of over 17%. Anyone can make mistakes but then for the blame to be passed to others was shameful. Will not be going back.

We ordered a take away, after waiting an hour and twenty minutes we called and was told it would be another 20 minutes, it arrived 25 minutes later with no apology or explanation. We then ate the Chinese (very bland) and got to the final few chicken balls and realised they were raw. We then called them to complain about the rawness of the chicken balls. I was then offered a refund for 3 chicken balls...because we ate the rest unknowing they were raw. After I explained that a refund of 3 chicken balls was unexceplable, the manager then went on to explain I didn't specify whether I would like the chicken balls 'well done' or 'raw'...??!!! I'll have to remember that next time i order chicken!! Terrible UN-COOKED food, and even worse customer services. That's the last time I'll be eating from there again!!

Went here prior to the cinema. Sadly service was dreadful so we ended up cutting short our meal to make the cinema in time. The take away service was high priority and the restaurant was not a priority at all. We won't be going here again. The lady who was serving was trying her best but was overwhelmed by a full restaurant and wasn't helped at all by a staff member who didn't have a clue and was standing around ignoring the tables full of used plates etc

Great to have a chinese restaurent close at hand in the country . Makes a welcome change from " pub grub".Menu has the usual favourites plus a few extras. Service wonderful and friendly.

I've never been to this restaurant because it just looks old and the atmosphere ain't great so I just ordered a delivery but it took more than 2 hours!

Zan has been taken over recently (last 6 months). We were ushered to the back room and sat next to quite a lot of junk and take away food bags. The bill was alarmingly expensive as compared with the previous owners and the food was not as good.

I orded my food at 6 pm arrived at 9.15 pm stone cold put it in air fryer and oven food was small portions never ever would I ring and eat from this take away again staff kept saying we don't know we're the food is like talking to kids not good food not got service never again watch out

What's happened? Upon walking into Zan for our half seven table we were greeted by a girl who led us over to our table crammed in the corner of the restaurant. She then turned the lights on. Why weren't the lights on? We'd booked, you knew we were coming?I've never known a Chinese to look so shabby, run down or out dated as this restaurant did. No white table clothes or linen napkins just a tacky plastic table and paper napkins. Plastic table flowers are simply hideous, why is that still s thing, we are not in the nineties anymore. The entire place lacked that ambience that you get when having a dine in Chinese meal. The lack of oriental decoration for a start was disappointing. I had to ask for the heating to be turned on as I was sat wearing my coat. Not only that but I also asked for music to be played for the young waiter to reply 'what sort of music?'. I replied 'Chinese' as after all the whole point of being here is for the experience.The food was ok but not much of it and one of the dishes we ordered never even turned up. It's so sad to see a restaurant I grew up with turn into the state it has become. What a shame. But it's safe to say I won't return until it's under new management or I hear that they've changed their ways.

No very happy with telephone service for takeaway , was put on hold twice for server to other telephone orders , then once order was taken then told there was an hour wait plus delivery , would understand if resturant was busy , but was very dissapointed with service ....

Many moons ago, people used to travel from London to eat here, so I'll admit, my expectations were probably a little higher than they should have been!We ordered a takeaway on a Saturday night, so expected a bit of a delay and were told it would take up to an hour for food to arrive - fair enough. The hour passed - no food. After another 15 mins we called to be told that the food would be another 15 mins. After about 1 hour 40, the food arrived (and wasn't that hot either). I appreciate that there may be delays at peak times, but had we been told the full wait time or had had an amazing meal, I wouldn't have been so cross...as it was, the food was average and luke warm....quite a few of the dishes we ordered were battered despite not mentioning this in the menu and the smoked chicken, whilst quite yummy as a chicken dish, did not taste smoked.Overall a disappointing experience - we won't be ordering from them again any time soon.

We have just tried their delivery service for the first time and found no problems at all.I had egg fried rice with beef curry, there was a good sized portion of both and plenty of tender lean beef. I was told that the meal would be up to 45 minutes but it was less than thirty minutes.Well done

It was very very cold, everyone sat in their coats. I had the only radiator in the restaurant next to me and we were offering to share it with other diners. Used to have nice white tablecloths but was just bare tables and plastic flowers. Wine was surprisingly good, food very average. They are definitely focussed on takeaways and not the restaurant. Wouldnt go back.

I went to this restaurant to eat a few times, but whether it is the Chinese New Year or holidays, waiting time is a little longer, but the store is really something good to eat! This is really a place where people come to pick up takaways. The small restaurant section is cold, has irritatingly flickering lights (which the staff could do nothing about) has uncomfortable seating and a very sad decor. The service was pleasant enough but did not do justice to the 10% automatically added to the bill. Food was reasonable, but approx £70 for a very basic set meal with no extras for 3, a non alcoholic drink each and no dessert, this was far too much to pay. We were the only diners - everyone else watched as they waited for their takeaways! They all knew better!Give it a miss.

My partner and I have visited Zans on a number of occasions and unfortunately will not be returning after our last experience. We ordered two starters, two main courses and rice for our meal. One of the starters arrived, together with a sauce which accompanied the second starter, I insisted that my partner ate his starter whilst it was still hot, after waiting for at least five minutes my starter still had not arrived, at this point my partner asked where the other starter was, we were told that it would be with us shortly. My partner had almost finished his starter before mine had arrived. The starter plates were then cleared away and the plates and bowls for the main course were brought to the table, a couple of minutes later my partners main course and rice were served, again I told my partner to eat before the food got cold, again I waited and waited for my main course, approximately ten minutes later we asked the owner/manager where the rest of the food was, her reply was rather curt and she said "well it takes longer to cook as the seafood is frozen"! I waited a further couple of minutes and my partner had almost finished his food and I decided that I had had enough and told a different waitress not to bother as I had waited too long and that we had wanted to eat at the same time. Just after this the food appeared, I told them it was too late, we asked for the bill, they had taken my main course off but had not taken into account the dreadful service that we had endured. I explained that I hadn't been able to eat any of the rice as I hadn't had anything to go with it, the owner/manager was again very curt and said that we had to pay as my partner had eaten some of the rice. They also had the audacity to add a 10% service charge to the bill, when this was questioned she said that it states on the menu that a 10% service charge will be added, I informed her that I would not be paying 10% for terrible service. She then removed this from the bill. After this she literally plonked the bill, hot towels and mints on the table without a word. We then left the restaurant and she did not even have the courtesy to apologise or say goodbye. Unfortunately we will not return which is a shame as some of the food (when you eventually get it) is rather good.

A regular Chinese restaurant with a good selection of food, including several vegetarian options. However, the vegetarian food arrived considerably later than the other dishes, and one was found to be contaminated with chicken. Despite this disappointment, the non vegetarians were generally pleased. Definately avoid if you do not eat meat or have any allergies sensitive to kitchen contaminations.

Called in Saturday evening early. Restaurant was empty but phone didn't stop ringing for takeaways. Was cold in the restaurant and music too loud. Service quite slow my husband's main course arrived and I waited seven minutes for mine - he had nearly finished!Waitress was dealing with takeaways as well as tables. When we go out for a meal it's nice to eat together. I ordered a shredded chicken but it was just large strips of chicken. Disappointing and expensive. Will not return.

Ordered a takeaway for New Years Eve. When ordering we were told 45 minutes. As it was a big order and New Years Eve we arrived after an hour to find quite a few people waiting. The front of House happily took our CASH but didn't mention any long delays even though there were obviously problems. Several people had been waiting nearly 2 hours. Even when they asked how much longer the answer was consistently another 10 minutes. The restaurant only had one small group so i hate to think what it would have been like if that had been really busy too. It was appalling. We did get offered a drink and some prawn crackers that kids had been putting their hands all over! There were a lot of unhappy people- too late to go elsewhere. They couldn't offer any reasonable compensation (£5 on a £100 order for one person) They then closed both the restaurant and takeaway. Bit too late really - they should not have kept taking orders a lot earlier when they obviously could not cope with the demand. Our order ended up being over 2 hours as well. 9.30 by this time. Got home to find 2 dishes not included, dried out rice dishes and food just generally ok. I accept that it was busy for New Years Eve but certainly don't recommend and wont be ordering from here again.

Ordered a take away for new years eve. Told 45 mins. Went to pick the take away up and we waited another 40 mins. Others in front if us had been waiting nearly 2 hours. It was a joke. They would only take cash for take away orders, but cards for customers in the restaurant. When we finally got the food home it was barely warm. I would not recommend this Chinese to anyone.

Put an order through for pick up after hearing mixed reviews of the new ownership from friends. Turned up in 10 minutes which was fine as the food was ready only to find i was served by someone who was distinctly not of Asian descent (not a problem, just found this very bizarre, you would assume front of house in a Chinese restaurant would be Chinese?). Got home with my food to find the prawn toast was unbelievably salty, conversely the crispy seaweed had half a kilo of sugar on it and special fried rice had 3 prawns in it and virtually no other chicken/pork etc. Service was fine, pleasant enough but for food i'd say Lovely's across the road is still better and good value for money, or Wintex in Cranbrook

Just popped in to see how this restaurant is nowadays - not having visited for some time as it had gone downhill. New people running it now, and a new delivery service available (which is a good idea and hopefully will work well after hearing of a few teething problems). We were made very welcome by the young staff, and the menu is certainly interesting with all the old favourites and some intriguing new dishes. We only wanted something quick and easy as it was getting late, and we were perfectly happy with our starters - the satay chicken was delicious, as was the prawn toast and other bits and pieces. Followed by aromatic duck which was cooked beautifully with nice crunchy bits and moist meat. Quick Toffee apple as a desert- very yummy. All plates were kept warm, all extras were well presented. The wine was very good and we both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I don't know what it is like at the weekends, and wonder if the staff would be able to cope with a busy evening with people eating in, taking out and asking for deliveries, as they did seem a little disorganised at times, but still very charming. However, I would recommend trying it - we will certainly return and try out some of the more interesting dishes on the menu, which is also being revamped soon.The take away menu doesn't represent what is available when eating in house, but hopefully it will do soon when the changes are made.

We've eaten there many times but this time was very disappointing. The crispy duck was dry and over crispy and the cucumber had been sitting around for some time. The char Sui was also dried out. I asked to speak to the manager and I explained via the waitress as interpreter how disappointed we were which he accepted. But did nothing to compensate for how we felt. End of! We won't be going back there again.

Leaflet dropped yesterday? Don't bother! Advanced ordered at 6pm for delivery at 8pm, 8.20pm had to chase. After waiting ages for the phone to be answered, the man on the other end didn't say a word to me it was after my third hello that he grunted. So taking this opportunity of communication I asked where the food was, appreciating the fact they were busy (hence the advanced order) he grunted it would be a further 15 minutes. It arrived at 8.45pm - cold and congealed, (25 further minutes later). To top it off they charge a fiver for delivery, if that was written on said leaflet I wouldn't have bothered. And now I never will again!

In today's over-hyped world, sometimes, it is refreshing to come across something that says what it does on the tin. In my opinion, that is Zan.Zan is not pretentious. It is not a Michelin Star wunder-dining establishment.No.But it is a clean, honest Chinese food restaurant, based in a little town.The staff is efficient and food comes as expected. The Sake is served HOT, just like it should be.The food is just as you would expect it to be. And getting what you want, when you want it, at the price you expect to pay sounds like a fair deal to me.I will not over hype this place. But I will not talk it down either. It delivers what it promises.And as a local guy, looking for some decent Chinese food that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and that is served in a clean, pleasant environment, it ticks all of my boxes.

Lovely evening starting with the mixed starter which was excellent, followed by 6 delicious dishes, every one was cooked to perfection, good value. The decor could do with a bit of TLC but that is my only criticism.

I'd previously heard good things about this restaurant so I thought I'd give it a go myself. I decided to opt for a take out rather than a sit down meal, so I'm unsure as to whether or not that affected my experience of the food. Ordering was simple as is usually the case with take outs, I arrived to collect and was surprised to find that I was to collect my food from the bar area right next to the seated restaurant diners, which on a busy weekend I would find very disruptive if I were dining within the restaurant, this small misjudgement gives a very bad first impression.The food itself was nothing other than average, some dishes were nicer than others, namely the more simple ones. I found an overall lack of seasoning and the lemon chicken was especially poor in this area, I found it to be very bland indeed. The price was fair, however it was slightly more expensive than the competing outlet which is just across the road and has been my first choice for a couple of years now since I moved into the area.Dining in? Maybe give it a go. Take out? Go across the road.

We ordered 5 items for our main meal for 2, 1 of them never came, however the 4 items that did came were sufficient to fill us up, that did not stop them trying to charge us for it, What with the take-away service they provide they appeared a little rushed and disorganised. The total bill with a bottle of wine and 2 other drinks came to £48 which I thought was a little steep for just a main course. Much better value next door in The Royal Oak.

Decided on a last minute family treat, quite early in the evening and was lucky to get a table in a restaurant that was heaving!! Really enjoyed our food and will return in the future

Love this place, have been coming here since I was at boarding school in hawkhurst, our final meal as a family before term time started.

Another great takeaway from zan. Only minor critique was the (free) prawn crackers were not up to scratch. Everything else was superb

vistied on a Saturday night and was seated and seen to in good time, the service was very good with nothing being to much trouble, the food came out in good time and was served at a good temperature. the Chow mein and lemon chicken was very nice and one of the best I have had for a long time, also the crispy duck and satay chicken and sauce was to die for one of the best... all round very good experience and would visit again

The restaurant is, to put it mildly, unprepossessing. We were a party of 16, a little too large for the venue, but they squeezed us in. The decor was ... dated and tired - things did not look good. However, the food was excellent: we had the Feast For Six doubled up and a few vegetarian options - all of the food, without exception, was tasty and well-presented (and the vegetarians said the bean curd dishes actually tasted good!) With drinks, the bill came to £30 a head, including tips. The only criticism - apart from the decor - was that service was slow: hence the increased drinks consumption and the slightly high bill.We will certainly return.

I've eaten at Zan many times over the years when I travel to the UK, but this year the food was quite disappointing and flavorless. It was like the chef had forgotten to add any spices, so I used some of the table condiments which added some heat. There was only one other table of diners and one person picking up a take-out order, so perhaps business reflects this change. Hope they make some changes.

Zan is a family run business that provides tasty Chinese cooking. You get a lot for what you pay and it is all cooked to order. If you ever get the chance to go I recommend getting one of the set meals. The staff are extremely friendly and can't do enough to help you, they are soo attentive. The atmosphere inside of the restaurant is a relaxing one, and is one of the many treats of going there. If you are in Hawkhurst you will see there is a wide range of restaurants offering Chinese food but none of them offer the quantity or quality of Zan. This is the best Chinese restaurants there is. I went there with my family and it was brilliant.

OK, so it could do with a makeover inside but the food is good. There are 3 Chinese takeaways in Hawkhurst but we always use Zans. Sometimes we eat in: the food is always freshly prepared and arrives quickly. The prices are average.

We booked a table at this restaurant on the 28/3 for a birthday meal, it was a really good night the food was excellent and we didn't have to wait for it to come to the table, the only downside (and its no fault of the restaurant) is the amount of food there was loads. Would defiantly eat here again

Very tasty food and accomodating service (especially as I had my two year old son with me). Although restaurant was dated, I would be returning as the food made up for it.

this is right next door to the pub.. food is very varied and tasty. they have plenty of parking outside. the staff are helpful. they do take away too.
