Zaffran in East Riding of Yorkshire

Been here several times, and is no secret that I have for a long time, stated this to be the best restaurant in the world! Food is always top notch, service is always spot on and as always did not disappoint. Also Saffron offers a little bit of sanity in a mad world right now, with minimal covid nonsensing, the restaurant doing what it has to by law, but no stupidity and silly stickers, just common sense and letting people enjoy themselves. Saffron Lounge excels in the delicious food and the dining experience.

Stunning! Superb food great delivery absolutely brilliant! Beautifully prepared, fresh and delicious!

The quality and taste of food here is lovely however there is not alot of meat in the dish considering the amount paid. If you eat in the restaurant ask to reserve a table towards the back as our table was near the front door and it constantly was opening for takeway pick ups and you felt like you couldn’t relax and take your time due to being watched by people stood waiting in their pj bottoms. Staff are friendly and we will eat hear again just will ask for a table further in the restaurant.

visited at the end of September food was good although perhaps not up to normal standard, I would question the quality of my steak, and service was unusually slow and seem distracted. However I will go back as i have had lots of very good meals here so will certainly return

Having visited regularly both before and after the refurb and change of ownership, I am pleased to say that Ash and his team have made improvements that now make this our favourite Indian Restaurant in the area. Staff are friendly and hospitable and the food is always delicious. Even takeaways are consistently great too and well worthy of consideration for your next weekend treat.

My wife and I booked in advance for a Friday night at 7:30. We were shown to our table in what was already a busy restaurant. Staff were really busy but taking it in their stride and still delivering excellent service. A waitress took our drinks order and returned quickly to take the order for food. She knew the menu well and was able to explain the difference between a couple of dishes and advise which I was likely to prefer. We had pappadoms and pickles to start. The main course arrived with no delay and was hot and very tasty. We had a glass of wine and two large bottles of Bangla beer. The total bill was under £45 and represented great value for money. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant any night of the week for both special occasions and ad hoc dinners.

As ever food second to none. Don’t want to criticise the slow service too much as Ash fitted us in at short notice. However, highly recommended. I would book for a Saturday night visit to make sure you get in. Reasonably priced as well.

Having stayed away from Zaffran for about a year because of a real bad experience I'm glad to say that it's back to it's best. Ash (owner) has re-employed some previous staff making customers feel welcome again. My Balti chicken dish was extremely tasteful as I love spicy food (in terms of spices used as opposed to heat). From the poppadoms to the starter and garlic nan, the food was delicious. We visited on the 2nd Saturday after the new year expecting very few customers, it was full. If planning to go on a Saturday night, I would pre book. Highly recommended.

Wonderful meal! We staff where brilliant - one of the small children on our table ordered chips and then asked for some tomato sauce and the waiter say they didn’t have any but he went out to a nearby shop and specially bought some. Would definitely recommend and I would definitely come back.

We had three curries, all three were none greasy, full of flavour, the naan was cooked and tasted amazing, would highly recommend......5*

Three of us went on a Friday night in May and the first time in since the refurb and new menu (presume new owners). Two of us eat Indian all over the UK due to work so quite experienced nowadays. The staff didn’t seem too interested and the service was a bit slow even though it had quietened down by the time we got in. The popadoms tasted bought in and the pickle tray was the worst I’ve had. The menu choice was good with some authentic dishes. The starters were good but not great as some of the meat was over cooked / dry and they also literally give you a spoon of salad. The mains were better though with fresh rice and good meat and sauces. We all found it very disappointing except for the mains which I’m gutted about as it’s around the corner. Maybe we were too late in the night but 915pm isn’t late. 5/10 for me at best.

Has now changed its name to Saffron Lounge. Got a takeaway from here it was gorgeous, they forgot to include the naan but offered to deliver it but my partner popped back to collect it. They very kindly gave us a free bottle of wine as a way of an apology. We will definitely be back, best Indian around this area.

This Indian restaurant is under new ownership and recently re-furbished with a slight change of name from Zaffran to Saffron Lounge. We pre-booked for a week-night tea-time and were intrigued to see the new decor which is a subtle fusion of different cultures. There are fabulous rose-gold Moroccan-styled light shades, a bubble wall behind the optics and a contemporary designed interior. It was our first visit to the restaurant so we were unable to compare it to the previous decor. The restaurant extends quite a long way back so there are plenty of tables. It was not over busy the night we visited. There seemed to be a wide choice on the menu, including a few veggie options for my vegetarian friend. We started with a pickle tray and poppadoms followed by a vegetarian korma and a lamb passanda with pilau rice and a naan bread to share. Everything was tasty, hot and well cooked. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly and kept checking that everything was OK but were a little over-keen to remove plates before we had completely finished! We asked for the sweet menu and sadly there is none yet! They need to get a freezer apparently. Sorry, but had to mark you down for that! We were a little disappointed but ordered more drinks instead. The total bill was about £43 with drinks. The bar bill was totalled on the hand written bill so it was a little hard to work out what we both owed as one of us was on wine and the other on soft drinks. However we coped and will be quite happy to return another time.

Enjoyed a lovely meal here with my friend - we were both really really hungry ( busy mums who’ve not eaten all day ) We ordered enough food to feed an army (we thought).... popadoms and pickle tray to start , 2 main courses off the specialty menu , rice , naan bread , Tarka Dahl and sag paneer sides !!!!, however , portions were very, very small , the smallest I have ever seen in a restaurant - the prices do not reflect this. This is the only reason I have marked down to 4 out of 5. Food all presented well, staff friendly , food spot on absolutely delicious just not enough of it.

Our first takeaway from here, it did not start well as we planned it on my birthday which was a Monday, on arrival at the restaurant we found that Zaffran now do not open on a Monday so people should make note of this change. We had to do plan b "fish and chips"and then get a takeaway the next night. Food was excellent as normal, a delivery service would be handy from here. Will definitely visit again.

A very pleasant night out. Service was cheerful and friendly and there was a good range of dishes for vegetarians and carnivores. Food was very tasty. No alcohol licence at present (starts in February) so took our own booze, which made it great value. There's an off licence next door if you forget. Will definitely go again.

Well worth a visit, as we had not been before the waitress went through the menu and recommended several dishes. The food was great. Will go back again.

Four of us went for a birthday meal, first time for 2 of us. Staff very thin on the ground but really helpful and knowledgeable. Our waiter was patient in explaining some of the dishes before we chose. Sat near to a party of around 12 on a stag do and the noise was very loud, with the rest of the restaurant having to talk loudly to overcome this. Food and service were great, the very few staff were run off their feet with this stag party taking over at the detriment of the rest of the diners. Once they left the restaurant returned to a decent atmosphere but by this time we were due to leave. Would like to return to experience it at it's best. Have to repeat the food was hot and tasty and the staff great.

First visit for quite a while so when a friend visited the area from out of town it was an opportunity to try it out. I was there slightly early so ordered two pints of Cobra for both of us and perused the menu whilst waiting for my friend. Staff were patient and on hand to take our order when we were ready. As usual there were quite a few tables occupied mid week which is a good sign for this area. Went through the menu starting with poppadums and pickle tray , mixed kebab starters and two chicken dishes sharing rice and peshwari Nan. The food was delivered in a timely fashion and plates cleared as appropriate The food was really good and for a traditional Indian restaurant is about as good as it gets.

Zaffran looks great externally and builds expectations. Interior is modern and menu offers a number of choices and a special deal of 4 courses for just less than £13. I suspect this special deal represents a large element of its trade. Focus seems to be value as opposed to quality. Dishes lacked any depth of flavour and could never be described as complex. Service was enthusiastic. Overall experience was very average. A disappointment for us but if your looking for a good value the meal deal may be for you ?

Not from the area but stumbled upon this place, hadn't booked and we wanted a table for 5. Staff were great and accommodated us quickly. Service was fantastic and staff good with the children too. Ordered from the set menu which was good value and food was excellent. Had a great time with family.

We went tea time last night (18/7/17) with hubby and Mum and Dad ...got the set menu for £11/95 all got different starters and mains but all thought it was excellent. ..naan bread was delicious ...service very good and we would definitely recommend going here ..we will absolutely be going back and soon ..also do take away which is handy

This was a recomandation so we tried it and we wern't dissapointed the whole experiance great from walking in the food was some of the best indian we have had very well presented and really tasty my chickrn tikka jalfrazzie came in a sizzleind dish and was one of the best I have hadthe other-half had a tasty madras so from starter to main course 100% no complaints and not expensive at £40 for 2 courses plus drinks.Would recommend this place without hesitation.Staff were also very polite and helpful TNX guys

Six of us went for an evening meal and had a variety of meals, everyone agreed that there's was excellent. I had a Chicken Madras, which was spicy and full of flavour, which was delicious. The service was very friendly.Thanks to Brian for treating us on his birthday.

Attended with OH mid week and it was perhaps not surprisingly very quiet. We elected to try the four course special which is £11.95 each . The first course is the usual poppadum's with a dipping tray and they were quite nice. We then started with a chicken tikka and a lamb tikka both were okay without being special. For main course I upgraded to a ultra garlic chicken curry I think it was called and the OH had a beef masala. The main courses were very good. We ordered a garlic naan to share and coffee was the 4th course with drinks the bill was just shy of £35 which was about its worth. The service was very good I wouldn't rush back but equally I will probably try again at some stage.

Great vegetarian options. Food and service was wonderful. I was particularly impressed with the almost theatrical way our main course was presented. It almost warranted a round of applause but I restrained myself. The staff were friendly which added to the relaxed atmosphere. A truly enjoyable evening.

Zaffran is by far the best Indian restaurant in the area. The food is always delicious and the service is great too. Also do a weekday deal which is good value. Take away is great too just wish there was delivery!

Visited this Indian Restauant for our xmas cricket dinner, third year we have had a meal here at xmas, excellent food, great menu, good service, be prepared to wait if you are in a large party we had 20 plus people to serve, all food is cooked to order, but always with friends you have a lot to talk about, we had also pompadoms and dips brought to our table while we waited for our main meals, all on the house.

we visited for my partners birthday in november along with her mum and dad, we enjoyed a really nice curry on the 4 course offer which is brilliant value for money, only complaint about the night was the poor service as it was a bit long between courses and no second drink offered. wont be rushing back

This was our first experience of Zaffran - a takeaway on the way home. Food was ready when I arrived and everything was in the bag.All the food was really nice.Will return.

Recently visited Zaffran Restaurant with some of my my friends and family, we were welcomed into restaurant by one of the head waiters known as Faran, he was very friendly aswell as his colleagues and all we experienced excellent customer service by all members of staff. The food quality was also excellent, would definitely recommend the restaurant and will be back soon

Had good meal with tasty curries and lovely breads, relaxed service, lager on draft. Good portion sizes of main meals 4 different curries ordered all tasted completely different and full of flavour will be going back!!

As the Zaffran is now within walking distance of our new home, a walk and a curry was essential we thought. The food is good the service is pretty good too, when the restaurant is full it has a great atmosphere too. I usually find medium dishes in Indian restaurants too hot for me but here they are perfect, so if you like it medium go for hot!! The Zaffran is going to be a regular walk now!

Always visit Zaffran and I am never disappointed with the food, atmosphere or service. 10/10. Sunday to Thursday menu is brilliant with 4 courses for around £11.

The food in Zaffran is to die for it is so delicious and is accessible for anybody it is a romantic place but is also a good place for the family

Our family spent an enjoyable time here for a family birthday celebration, this was not the first time we had ate at this INDIAN restauant, we have always enjoyed the service and the food.The standard menu does not seem to have altered, but a selection of specials are always available should you vancy something different from the normal menu

Seven of us ate here for a birthday meal, only one other group of four diners in on a Sunday at 7.30pm. Ordered drinks and poppadum’s and while waiting for them they took the orders for starters and mains, a good ten minutes after the poppadum’s were finished they brought the mains which to be fair looked OK but were cold, not sure why they felt the need to bring the food out on a stupidly low wooden trolley like your grandma used to have, the kitchen is only 8 feet from where we were sat and three of them were "unloading " said trolley, we asked for more drinks as no one asked us.Mains were just average, the curries didn't appear to have any depth of flavour and were a bit skimpy on the meat ingredients, none of the staff engaged with us and actually only spoke if we asked for something, Sunday is obviously the day when they wear their own clothes as no one really looked like a waiter or barman.Won’t be returning to spend another £150 when better food, service and customer respect are only a couple of streets away.

Visited here for the first time in a group of four and following a warm welcome we were soon seated with menus and drink orders. Despite it being a busy Saturday evening the service was decent and drinks were replaced as necessary. For starters I went for the prawn puree which was delicious. Other starters included onion bhajees which were some of the best I've tried. I then opted for the Tandoori mixed grill which came with its own rice and sauce. This huge portion was cooked well with great flavours but not many king prawns. Everyone else enjoyed their dishes but comment was made on the apparent high salt content. Overall a very enjoyable meal at a reasonable cost. Recommended

Visited here on a recommendation from friends. Firstly the parking isn't great as the area it is in is only street parking and it gets very busy. We visited here on a Friday night and it was busy so we had booked a table. Food is good and decent portions. Would visit again when next in the area.

Went there last night . The staff were very friendly , couldn't do enough for you . The restaurant itself is well spaced and laid out very comfy seating . The food was excellent and very reasonably priced . We weren't waiting too long between courses but we certainly wasn't rushed . Thank you Zaffran staff for a great night . Try the place you won't be disappointed! We intend to go again .

Wednesday night business dinner. Very friendly service but on the whole food was borderline. I had chicken begum bahar which was lacking in cream and so came dry and had a powdery mouth feel. Chapati were small and undercooked. Overall OK but as a Brummie I'm used to better.

We have visited this restaurant numerous times and have never been disappointed. The service is outstanding and the food excellent. We visited again for my partners birthday last week and again made to feel valued and our every desire met with a passion for good service and great food. Top job Zaffran

Quite by chance we managed to get a table for four. Good service despite being full and the food was really good. Would recommend and revisit.

Went for a group dinner with family. There was 16 of us. The service was great, however most of the food, was either under cooked, off or just simply reused. It was well over priced for the quantity and quality of food we received. Overall, a very unsatisfactory meal for the event.

Haven't been to Zaffran for a while now, however I have visited with friends many times. Very tasty food, with lots of variety and a great atmosphere, with extremely nice staff. Would recommend to any Indian Food Lover. Zaffran also provide a takeaway service that has to be picked up from the restaurant, as they don't deliver. When visiting, parking can be an issue, however it will not dissappoint. Perfect for any family outing or with friends.

Had a lovely meal here. We had Shashlik. The food was well cooked and not at all heavy or so smothered in sauce you couldn't taste anything else. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. Not expensive either. Would definitely recommend.

I went with a friend on a Wednesday night and it was quite busy which is a good sign. The food was good and the friendly young waiters gave a very good polite service all night. The food was also well priced and my Southern friend was shocked at how cheap our bill was at the end. The Tandoori mixed grill was good as was the mushroom rice and both curries. The only slight thing is the chicken in my curry was ok at best but other than that very good. I would go back 7,5/10.

Me and 3 friends visited here on a Friday night. It was very busy which is always a good sign! I wasn't amassive fan of Indian food, but this place has changed that. It was gorgeous!! Staff were lovely too. Planning to return very soon x

2nd visit and found it very good again, menu a touch confusing and felt I was overcharged for one meal but overall a top night and would go again. Overall excellent value, also chance to go into NU bar!

Had a take away from here, sunday 3rd may . What a disgrace, plastic containers as you would expect , and as everyone accepts from takeaways... Only problem with this container was it was not even 1/4 full.. The portion size was disgraceful, rice was extra and for 5 meals, I, use the term Meals ... Loosely.. . £40.. Advice..."""DO NOT GET TAKEAWAY "". Will never go,back again..

The food won't blow you way but the staff are very friendly and the food does eat well enough if your out for a chat with friends.

Have been clients at this families other restaurants for many years and this provides exactly the same experience, well cooked/presented dishes and good service. The special 4 course menu available Sunday-Thursday evening is really good value.

Had the takeaway from here as had seemed a nice place. But I guess this is why it's a restaurant and not a takeaway as didn't give full order and when u get 11 pieces of chicken in 2 meals and no poppadoms for spending a bit is not what we think is reasonable place had no one inside so leads me to think what like when actually busy. To then ring and inform them of items missing to have what seemed to be a debate with there work colleague was poor guest satisfaction just sorry sorry sorry. Would not recommend the takeaway and will after the poor service never be using this establishment again.

Visited here last night (Saturday) with a group of 15. The staff were great & really looked after us. The place was well presented, clean with a good atmosphere. The food was the best & tastiest curry ever! It was fantastic & we can't wait to return.

Eaten here loads of times alwayscenjoy the food and the experience. These guys have been serving good indian food in Hull for decades. Same people who have Tandoor Mahal on Anlaby road and thats always been good. Would recommended spot on loads of seating good atmosphere.

I often visit Zaffran with friends and the food and atmosphere are always very good. Your dishes are wonderful and such a splendid choice, all reasonably priced too. The staff are so very polite with just the right value of attention to customers

I really like Zaffran. Staff were excellent, surroundings good, food lovely and great value for money. I'll certainly be visiting this treasure again.

We've dined here several times and never been let down by the food or the service. Staff are friendly knowledgeable and helpful. The menu includes all the usual fare along with a good selection of specials. If you fancy something that's not on the menu or something that is, but would like it cooked hotter/milder; it's never a problem. On this occasion, two couples ate and all were very happy with the whole experience. We'll definitely be back.

Nice resaurant with friendly staff .set menus very extensive .we went for the house recommendations and very nice too. Food full of flavour without over powering the taste of the meats . It was our first visit but shall not be our last .If you can visit but at weekends reservations should be made to avoid disappointment Great meal

4 & 1/2 stars for this restaurant makes a bit of a mokery of trip advisor and the fact currently there are only 14 reviews with the emphasis on "excellent" is a joke. The decor alone negates anything above 3 1/2 . The waiters were unatentive, portions minute, I've never seen so little chicken on a plate. The sauce looked & tasted more like it was out of a jar! And to top off the evening a spurious amount appeared on the hand written bill for a fictional amount! Subsequently removed , but how in these times are bills not printed line for line, rather than an unreadable scrawl very unprofessional . Worst Indian I've had in Hull.

Visited on a Thursday. Its a trad style Indian restaurant, but bright and clean and with good service, great value.A place we'll return to.

Popped in on a Thursday evening and was surprised to see that it wasn't that busy. That soon changed - it always is and that should be recommendation enough. The staff greet you like you are a regular customer (have only been three other times this year) and the service is excellent. Had poppadums and pickle tray with a lamb tikka starter , colleague had chicken puru both were excellent. We both went for the specials and shared both of them. A nice touch was being served in bowls rather than the metal bowls you get elsewhere. The portions looked small but in reality ere not leaving us both amp,y satisfied. The food really was excellent and my colleague , visiting from Cheshire was very impressed with the quality - he's been to a few Indian restaurants in the area and not been over impressed so I think this speaks volumes. I can't wait to go back and having Nu bar as a neighbour simply enhances the evening.

We visited on the 17th July for our sons 13th Birthday ( he loves Indian food!). The service was excellent and the food fantastic. We only mentioned in passing it was a birthday treat and when we came to pay the bill we were told our sons dessert was complimentary which was a lovely touch. A great local restaurant which we visit regularly. Also worth mentioning that the quality of the take away food is as good as the restaurant food which makes a nice change.

Visited Zaffran on Saturday evening with some friends, we had a late table at 9.00pm and quite often when you go to a restaurant late, it is obvious that the staff want to go home, however there was no sign of this, the staff were very patient attentive and did not make us feel rushed in the slightest! The food was delicious, highly recommend the beef bhuna and peshwari naan. Overall very enjoyable experience and we will certainly be back!

Just returned from an evening at Zaffran in Willerby. We had the fixed price menu. The food, ambiance and service were all excellent!

Me my partner and my step daughter visited here last night for a meal, when making the booking the staff were very polite and helpful we arrived a little late and when I rang to inform them that we would be slightly late there was no problem with that which reassured me! We all ordered starters which arrived promptly and the onion bhaji was delicious to say the least! We then ordered our currys and extras which again came very quickly the naan bread was dvine and definitely enough to share between three the meal portions are very far from small, chips were slightly tepped in heat but that was no great issue! The resturant was busy but by no means compromised the service the atmosphere is relaxed and the decor is simple but effective only thing I can fault really is the toilets are a long way upstairs and across the landing one big effort when ur stuffed!! Very reasonable prices can't grumble a bottle of red a few rosé wines 3 starters mains and extras not much more over £60 recommended resturant ill be back!

We visited the Zaffran Indian restaurant this week, a group of 10 of us. Well priced for the set menu at £10.95 per head. Plenty of choice on menu and it was served quite quickly and tasted very nice. No complaints, and I would return again.

Visited with a friend mid week. Chose the 3 course fixed price option. Food was good, but we were seated right at the front of the restraunt and felt we were a bit " out of the way" and the waiters pretty much left us alone. No check back to see if we were happy with our meals.

we went here for our wedding anniversary recently. During the week (Sunday to Thursday) they do a fixed menu for £10.95 which is a four course menu. This is great value for money and the food was great, fresh and cooked to order. Will definatly be returning. They also do a takeaway service which im sure we will try as well sometime.

A warm and friendly place to eat. Attentive staff and good food. Reasonably priced. Only drawback is that it is difficult to park if you have driven there. Either walk, get a bus or a taxi.

This restaurant was recommended to us as we were staying at a nearby hotel. The food was lovely, and for once we weren't rushed there was a break in between courses, which at some Indian restaurants isn't the case. Very reasonably priced too. Also a good choice of foods.

But the food at Zaffron is good and very good value. Their 4 course Mon – Thur Special menus at £9.95 are well worth it even if we never get round to the 4th tea/coffee course. We find that the Popadoms/ Chutney tray, Bargis/Samosas and mains fill us up pretty well first.For us, the menu is restricted to fish or vegetarian, as this Indian Restaurant is owned by Bangladeshis who only serve Halal meats and we are unhappy with this slaughter method. It would be better if this was stated on the menu. Doesn’t stop us enjoying the meals that we can eat.
