Duke of Cumberland in East Riding of Yorkshire

Went on a Sunday. Checked the menu online. Saw some nice sounding dishes, namely sandwiches, that I wanted to try. Got there and on a Sunday they have a limited menu with none of the stuff I wanted to try. Ordered beef. Not a good idea. Tough and chewy. Service was fine and atmosphere was nice. Shame about the menu and food.

Food was excellent fresh vegetables, homemade meaty pie with loads of filling and a nice pint of beer. Great staff friendly and helpful, Altogether a NICE‼️place to go.

Called today at about 5.30, I had steak pie and my wife had scampi. The food was on the table in minutes, and the portions were massive. The steak pie was rammed with lovely tender steak, loads of veg and triple fried chips, all spot on and piping hot. Would definitely recommend. Good choice beers, and polite and friendly staff.

Came for a bite to eat before a Rod Stewart show in the civic hall next door. The place was very busy & we ordered fish & chips & a hot steak & onion ciabatta. Despite being extremely busy the food came out pretty quick & it didn’t disappoint. Great atmosphere & good portions & prices. Well worth a visit

Everyone else's food was great I ordered the roast of the day gammon, I was rather hungry & ready for my meal, food arrived & gammon is meant to be on the pinkish side mine was more grayish, I asked waitress if it was OK, she took my plate back to chef who told the waitress it was not pink as its kept warm in water & that's why it was not pink, all the chef did was take the grey meat off... hence I didn't eat the meat as didn't want an iffy tummy the next day, I've had plenty of meals there before & not a problem, but if I was to eat there again & there was only the gammon on the roast menu I would choose something different, just a shame as the rest was all OK,

Can only comment an honest review of our local bar & restaurant, bar staff ..manager..landlady 110% , having been in the pub trade in a previous life the keg & cask ales are constantly on top form , highly recommend anybody from the village & all surrounding areas to come through the door to experience the best atmosphere & smiles / laughter you'll experience within the Hu16/Hu17 area x

Stopped off here before our disco for grown ups across the road, great food...great atmosphere...fast food to the table....great friendly staff too

Great coffee, amazing food. Got a vegan curry, one of the nicest ive ever had. Very clean, quick service and very lovely staff. Its a shame i dont live here or else id be a regular! Got 2 coffees for £6 and 2 main meals for about £23 together. Worth the price 100%

Had a great meal here today with my Wife and Mother in Law. Three light bites and three drinks less than £37 Service was great, we even got to choose our vegetables. It’s been decades since I visited, it will not be decades until my next visit.

The Christmas decor had a lot of time spent on it so nice to see however the v loud guy at the bar that everyone had to listen to spoilt it. He was vaping at the bar too, bit inconsiderate.

Stopped in for a pint while waiting for a bus stayed longer nice pint friendly staff and locals worth a visit

Absolutely terrible the bar staff especially the chap with the beard was more interested in watching the tv instead of serving the customers and the food was terrible just microwaved terrible food

Staff are absolutely shocking.. ordered a vodka coke. As the staff member turned his back he said Pepsi, without giving us a choice or asking. He refused to fill my tiny glass up with more Pepsi because of the ‘pubs costs’ and he would charge us for more Pepsi. Overall the interactions we encountered was rude.

The Duke of Cumberland in Cott is a great pub, and I had the pleasure of running into an old friend here. The beer selection was decent, and the warm and friendly atmosphere made it even better. The pub's appearance also added to the overall positive experience.

Call I.this pub most weeks. I meet up with a small group of friends. Last Wednesday evening we had our Christmas dinner get-together here. It was excellent food and service, plus great value for money. £25 per head for three courses. Christmas menu. Could not fault the food. Huge portions. I elected for the homemade soup ( delicious ) with. Soft roll. For mains, I had salmon with fresh vegetables and a tarragon white sauce. Christmas pudding but many went for the cheesecake. The decor in the pub is amazing with fabulous Christmas trees and decorations everywhere. Highly recommend.

Great old pub in the centre of Cottingham. Good food at reasonable prices. Good prices and friendly staff. Dog friendly. Nice outdoor area with a BBQ on special days, also great for families.

We visited on a Saturday afternoon and was really impressed by the excellent food, service and atmosphere. A great local pub please support.

Not a bad pub, but it took ages for a glass wash to come and clear our table. Place was nearly empty by 10.30 on a Saturday night

Highly recommend this pub for food. We use this pub for a family lunch a couple of times a month, usually greeted by Stan. Wayne the chef is a brilliant chef and we always enjoy the food that he produces. Deb is fantastic and goes out of her way to make sure we have everything we need. My uncle has a brain disability and she goes out of her way to reassure him and make him feel comfortable. Brilliantly run, Local pub.

Speedy drinks service with lovely attentive staff. Ordered food for 2 adults and our 2 year old son. Great pricing, especially for the big portion sizes. We all loved the food and will definitely be returning regularly. Fantastic atmosphere and so cosy with the log burner.

Great atmosphere that was it, waited over 50 minutes for a roast on a Sunday, paxo stuffing, piping hot veggies (clearly been microwaved) and took over 50 minutes, the meat was like rubber would not recommend at all ! Also asked for lamb got beef !

This was our first visit and first impressions were good.Food and drinks order taken quickly.Food menu is pretty standard for this type of establishment but it seemed highly priced.When our food came it looked appetising and the steak pie was stuffed with meat,good start.Alas the vegetables were only shown the hot water for a few seconds.Now I know everybody says veg should be crunchy but some cooking is required.For us the meal was let down by the uneatable veg.On informing the lady who cleared our table she basically told me “that’s how the chef does it so hard luck”.What happened to customer satisfaction?For the undercooked vegetables and the poor attitude of that member of staff you get a 3 when with just a smidgen of care you would have got 5,☹️☹️☹️

Dirty glasses, covered in lipstick, given same drink just poored into another glass. Given ice when not even asked in another drink. Staff were lovely though. Chap that served us was new to be fair. Will visit again. 😊

Fabulous roast dinner, so much meat and veg. If I realised how big the portion was I would have ordered smaller option. Staff were lovely, found us a table even though we hadn't booked. Wish I had taken a photo when meal arrived

We’ve been for dinner and always enjoyed the food, but either they’ve now got a new chef or he’s forgotten how to cook! I ordered a curry and tbh sundered how it could have been called ‘a curry’. The chicken was over cooked and dry. The onions were crispy as if they’d been thrown in as an after thought at the end. There was also bits of bacon which seemed so out of place? The gammon my husband ordered was extremely fatty and the chips looked and tasted as if they’d been left over chips from yesterday that had been fried again today. They were dry and burnt. Considering it cost over £40 with one drink each, it was a disappointment. Enough to put you off returning.

Was going to give a negative review only problem went a few weeks ago was really nice but today was awful chips was like scraps salad was very dry cheap condiments steak pie was poor. Sadly the problem with pub food it’s so hit and miss

I was undecided in which public house to eat - either The Duke or its sister pub The King Billy. Firstly I arrived at The Duke and settled with some friends for a drink. I really wanted to go to try one of King Billy's Pizzas from its new menu. But was settled. I cheekily asked if I could have one delivered and to my surprize was told no problem - Which one would you like? Around 20 minutes a later arrived what I can describe as the best Pepperoni pizza I have eaten. Well done to both teams for delivering such great service & quality.

Very popular pub in Cottingham, usually pop in here when we visit this area. Well worth calling in for food & a beer! We didn’t eat on this occasion but from previous visits I can say the meals are very nice!

Cannot fault anything! We were a group of 8 and a baby and we was looked after from sitting down to leaving. The baby is dairy intolerant and they asked us for any allergies and they was very honest with us. They actually gave us hot water to heat up babies dinner. All our food arrived together and all hot and cooked amazingly. Everything was very tasty. Staff were very attentive polite and always had a smile. Give them a try you won't be disappointed! We have never been in The Duke of Cumberland before just popped in when passing for a sandwich. Service was excellent as was the food. We wanted things replacing or omitting that were in the sandwiches and the staff were very obliging. Thoroughly recommend this place

We are at The Duke of Cumberland last night with my elderly parents.The staff were lovely and the food was excellent.We had fish and chips and the roast of the day ( gammon ) .All the food was beautifully cooked,well presented and really tasty.We will certainly eat here again.

Staff are very rude and treat us with utter disrespect i advise anyone to stay well away from this place. The barmaid who served us was treating not only myself but other members of the public very disrespectfully and after complaining about the way we was spoke to the manager natalie did not care and proceeded to block me from the facebook page and said i was the one in the wrong.

DO NOT GO TO THIS PUB THE STAFF ARE DISGUSTING !!! The way the staff treat us here was absolutely appalling, was spoke to with disrespect and when trying to complain we was given a false name from a member of staff then mislead by the other. The manager whose name is natalie i believe didnt not really care and blocked me.

The Duke of Cumberland is a nice community pub in the heart of Cottingham. It has a well deserved reputation for its excellent food. The beer is also first rate with a nice selection of hand pulled cask conditioned real ale. Quite a few pubs that are food orientated seem to fall down when it comes to the beer, but not here the beer is excellent. It's a big pub with several rooms excellent for dining and there is a nice secluded beer garden at the back by the Old stable block. A great pub highly recommended.

This was probably the best 'Club Sandwich' I've ever had. That plus its value for money, excellent triple cooked chips and all washed down with excellent beer. Hardly surprising it was so busy.

Called in for a drink as my husband worked in this area many years ago .. we were met with a pretty young girl however the sadest young girl ever..I actually said to cheer up ..fingers crossed your shift is nearly finished. She muttered something under her breath and looked over at a girl at the of the bar and stared laughing at us ..I ordered a wine and my husband ordered a pint of beer ..not a thank you.. just stood at the end of the bar with her friends laughing...i actually felt a little uncomfortable.we drank our drinks and left .so thank you for making us feel unwelcome .

Went for lunch and wasn't dissapointed. We both had a sandwich each, Ham and cheese and a club sandwich... fresh and very tasty, really good portion size and reasonably priced too. Only negative was ghe chap serving and complaining he was fed up of making tea and coffee, barring his whinge we enjoyed our visit.

After reading the reviews, we came here to dine for our daughter’s birthday. Food is a let down as everything was not made fresh. Beer is good so we guess that’s why the bar was packed with people.
