We enjoyed a superb meal at Zacry’s tonight. Every course was delicious and service was brilliant. We can’t wait to come back.

Lunch with friends. We had all eaten here before (albeit dinner not lunch) and had excellent food previously. Today all of us (not just myself) felt it was very forgettable. You could tell by watching the chefs work (it’s an open kitchen) that it was like it was not “their menu”. They worked like generic “jobbing chefs” going through the motions and this showed in the food they allowed to be served. Although more a reflection on a poor menu design than the chefs themselves. Always very happy to pay for good food cooked well. However, today at least, it was very much a case of paying through the nose for less than average. Hopefully this review is fair and is read and reflected upon by the management. We shall give you another try to see if you have take onboard the constructive feedback. Also if you are going to state “with a glass of Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc with every large main dish” on your website and then again re-state it at the table and then not even bother to bring it. That’s a shame.

I have been to this restaurant for over 20 years under different names and chefs. In its latest incarnation it does not disappoint. The service is first class, the set evening menu was delicious and full of surprises, the wine menu is great and the cocktails are worth the indulgence. All served in a unique location over hanging the beach so you can watch the surfers at sunset whilst you dine. Highly recommended.

Disappointed with both of our visits to this restaurant whilst staying at the hotel this week. The menu is very limited and repetitive. I am a frequent guest at the hotel but I have to say whilst the setting of the restaurant is beautiful, the choice and menu of the old Zachary's far exceeded what is now on offer. I have always found the food at Zachary's to be one of the biggest factors in booking the hotel but I now find myself looking for alternatives. I think the mixed reviews are interesting and I really hope the team at WGB consider the feedback. The service as always was impeccable.

An outstanding meal tonight at Zacry’s as part of our stay at the Watergate Bay Hotel. The service was very good - mentioning Kirsty and Luke, but all the staff were great. I would highly recommend and will definitely return. Recommend the white chocolate dessert - yum ! The view overlooking the sea was gorgeous.

Wonderful evening. Lovely welcome and fantastic service this place is a gem. Good seasonal choices on the menu. We were a party of 4, all of us went for 3 courses, mains included fish, vegetarian and meat, all well presented and pretty much flawless! Highly recommended and competes well with all in the area but the location and view is absolutely 2nd to none! We will definitely be back!

Wonderful location and exceptional staff….. but the food was very poor…reading some of the reviews certainly didnt reflect our experience and not a great menu for meat eaters….only a very fatty pork chop was on offer, champagne was flat and at £17 a glass you do expect it to have a few bubbles! Not good value at all !! One we definitely won’t be returning too !!

We visited last night to celebrate my birthday. From the moment we walked in the staff were all very welcoming and a real credit to the restaurant.The meal was amazing and very nicely presented. Will definitely be returning. Thank you for making my birthday meal so enjoyable

Very poor service on a moderately busy evening ( quite a few empty tables ). Took 5+ minutes for a waiter to approach after we’d been shown to our seats, then we had to chase the water that we’d ordered with for our initial drinks. Ordered starters and mains and were told that we’d get bread. Water finally arrived after another 15 mins, then waited another 5 before we had to call a waiter to chase our starters. Bread arrived after another 10 mins, and starters 10 mins after that. After 1 and a quarter hours we again have to stop a waiter to enquire after our mains…. “The kitchen is busy getting 5 tables orders out” Restaurant now only quarter full…Waited another 10 mins….What’s the food like you might say? - who cares, you’ll be long past caring when it does arrive.We decided against hanging on for desserts. Paid for our food. Told them what we thought of our evening. No apology.£120 to sit and wait to eat.Don’t bother.

Well what a terrible meal. £42 for t o courses. The octopus was chewy. The venison was chewy. The lamb could only be cooked rare or well done. Never heard anything so ridiculous. Overall bad meal and not worth the money

As part of staying at Watergate Bay we had breakfast each day in Zacry’s. The staff were excellent and made sure we had coffee/tea as soon as we were seated. The choice and quality of food was excellent. Make your own waffles is great for all ages. I often steer clear of a Buffet as the food is often dried up but not here. Local sourced meats and so much choice. Enjoy.

Really delicious meal. We had a lovely waiter called Wayne who chatted and joked with us through the evening and put us at ease. The service was attentive but relaxed so didn’t feel rushed and able to just enjoy the experience. Would highly recommend. Much more reasonably priced and better experience in comparison to Emily Scott’s where we ate the following night.

We’ve had some excellent meals here whilst staying at Watergate Bay, but last night’s meal was the best. Grilled prawns, steak sharer and the most delicious pudding of creme fraiche mousse, gingerbread, raspberries and hazelnuts. It was just divine ! Service was on the whole very good and a lovely atmosphere.

Having just had 3 nights at Watergate Bay I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant for both breakfast and dinner.Breakfast choice is fab - cereals, fruit, yoghurt, toast, full english, danish pastries and of course waffles that you make yourself that are divine! Dinner is incredible. Menu changes slightly each day but the quality and choice is second to none.Add to that the views you get across the bay and the top class customer service - bliss!Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and ate at Zacrys on the last night. Paying a slightly higher price I expect a higher service and I was not disappointed. The food was excellent where I had the mussels starter and the cauliflower pakora main. I’m not vegetarian but as I’m a reasonable home cook I’ll often choose the veggi option in better restaurants as I know it’s much harder for a chef to ‘wow’ with a plain cauliflower than a meat/fish dish. Chef Nick did a great job! It was a ‘wow.’ The service team similarly did an excellent job and I have no hesitation recommending Zacrys. We were sat in Zacry's this evening, and saw a diner walk by not wearing a mask. A fellow diner tackled the person, and then brought it to the attention of the staff. The staff did nothing. Then, when the one that complained walked past the table, the couple that had not worn the mask started swearing, get the 'f' out of my face etc, and then said to the guy let's go outside and sort this out. The staff were very poor, and failed to deal with it properly. We were sat next to the non-mask wearers, and it was a disgrace. The police then turned up. The management had a responsibility to deal with it properly.

A delicious wedding breakfast and wonderful flexible informal service. The chef changed the menu to suit vegetarians and he was very friendly.

Visited here and was really impressed by the COVID-19 measures the restaurant had raked, one way systems all staff wearing masks and hand sanitizers everywhere. Until we’re seated we too were asked to wear a mask. Now to the food , we were given complimentary bread with marmite butter. Unfortunately the bread was very very hard and could not be eaten. The rest of the food followed in a similar theme , it looked delicious but tasted average or poor. There was a lack of seasoning on all food. When serving fish on the coast make sure it’s fresh, the monkfish unfortunately wasn’t. The menu had so much potential but that’s what it remained. Of all three courses no more than 50% was eaten on every dish. The service was good and the staff can’t be faulted. With a lovely venue this could be improved so easily

We visited here with children for breakfast. We did feel like we were in the way from the moment we ordered. The food was average and the majority of the staff were OK but one of the waitors that served us was rather dismissive. I would say it was average for breakfast.

Every time we come down to Cornwall we make a point of eating in Zacry’s and it never disappoints. Last time we were here we discovered Marmite bearnaise and this time it was corn ribs. The food is wonderful, the staff are amazing and you couldn’t wish for a more perfect meal. If you get chance try the monkfish katzu curry it’s to die for.

Fabulous meal. Sea bass and Katsu curry were delicious as was the deconstructed cheesecake. Staff were very helpful and sorted our dietary requirements without any fuss. £100 for two courses for two and a bottle of fabulous Albariño was great value. So good we booked in for the following night

Second time (after a few years) for a family celebration and the menu persists with this shared steak concept. Great friendly service, lovely atmosphere and food tasted good. Wine a bit pricey but all good for a nice meal out.

Very expensive for something very ordinary £39 per head for a shared sirloin with chips and a panna cotta dessert, £26 for a fish main course. Very slow service in an almost empty restaurant. My husband and I ate here for our anniversary evening meal, while stay at Watergate Bay hotel as part of the three night Taste of the Bay offer. I love Zacry’s. It’s a lovely romantic space, with low lights and lots of candles. The team here are great and very attentive. You start with delicious sourdough bread with whipped salted butter. So yummy, I asked for seconds (happily obliged). We chose chargrilled squid and crispy prawns. Both very tasty. I then had a duck shepherds pie with pickled red cabbage. I’m still dreaming about that dish. So delicious.

The food is amazing but took ages to be served (nearly two hours for starter and main) and the restaurant is very very loud. I

Everything about the evening was perfect. The restaurant was not over busy and the noise level was low. The service was excellent and we ate at a nice slow pace. We had a wonderful Hungarian Furmint with our starter, I like Hungarian wines but can not get this quality. The main course was a lovely piece of sirloin for two, it was cooked exactly how we asked, very rare and it was succulent and tender. The large chips were also excellent and cooked to perfection. Finally, the deserts were bursting with flavours, unfortunately as this visit was at the end of our holiday we didn't have a chance to return this year.

I didn’t know what to expect when we visited Zacry’s. We were staying at the hotel and the restaurant looked nice but I was expecting a standard hotel restaurant. This was much better than expected. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Gorgeous food, good wine selection and all in a lovely setting. I only wish I could have tried more of the menu as it all sounded delicious.

A mixed experience. My husband had red pepper and goats cheese soup followed by lamb...both of which were delicious. I had squid with pork rillettes followed by pork belly and cheese board. The pork belly was amazing however the squid and 'pate' I wasn't keen on...not sure anyone would think that is a good combination...and none of the cheeses stood out, although the biscuits weren't really chosen to compliment their different flavours. Setting is lovely and service good but not the special evening we thought it would be...mainly down to my choices but I would expect every dish to be delicious.

A fantastic place to eat for special occasions.The food and service go hand in hand with each other,We was a group of 12, I understand it can be hard to cater for this many people, but this wasn’t a problem for the zacrys team very attentive.A fantastic selection for the vegan menu, I was very happy with the curried aubergine, Katsu curry, pak Choi and sticky coconut rice... Devine.Worth a visit, you will not be disappointed

Very enjoyable meal and excellent service. Have cocktails on the terrace and enjoy watching the surfers before hand.

Uninspiring menu coupled with slow service and overpriced, mediocre wine. Dined here as part of a full board stay at Watergate Bay Hotel. Food choice uninspiring and below expectations. Although the quality is better than most chain hotels it could be so much better. But it's a captive audience here, especially if you want a drink. In future, we'll probably drive over to Padstow for fine dining for similar money once you factor out the £35+ mediocre wine. Such a shame, a missed opportunity.

Such an interesting menu - all executed so well and well worth the treat. We had crab, venison and plaice - and an entirely unnecessary but delicious gooseberry fool to finish...and the service was just outstanding...friendly, knowledgeable and super efficient Matt O made us feel right at home but also special for just being there....which is rare in so many places even when the food is as good as here. Thanks Matt!

Had a lovely birthday celebration dinner at Zacrys two weekends ago with my family. Once again the whole evening was delightful. The food was amazing, being both beautifully cooked and artfully presented. The service was excellent as usual. A very special thanks to Nick in the kitchen for ensuring that our evening was one to remember. It certainly was!

Such amazing restaurant...and the food is to die for... And they really care about the customer. Not only the allergies, but your own personal dislikes...to the point of chef highlighting your own meal.

Consistent quality and flavour in a relaxed setting... albeit sans the garlic mash of last year. Chefs table is another element of entertainment worth enjoying.

The atmosphere is chilled, the restaurant does not look cheap at all but manages to not be pretentious. It may seem expensive but the food is really good and the portions are pretty big. Highly recommended especially after a swim at the hotel swimming club.

We had a lovely evening meal. The service was first rate with Finn particularly helpful and attentive. The food quality was high and portion sizes generous, especially given the reasonable pricing. The wine selection was wide and again not over priced. Well worth a visit.

Came here for my mums 60th birthday as a large group. The food was lovely with a varied menu and staff were fantastic. On the pricey side, but as it was a special meal, we didnt mind. The view of the sunset was beautiful!

Visited this place whilst on holiday in the area. Cocktails really good and the steak was excellent too. Staff helpful and knowledgable. Area seemed to be lacking lots of choice so this restaurant definitely delivered and is worth a visit if you are in the area.

Booked a wine and dine experience at this beautiful hotel. The food I actually had was amazing but the whole experience was lacking in service on the whole.

I ate here last night with my girlfriend for Valentine’s Day and I have to say this is by far the best food and best service either of us had ever had. Matt was so lovely and welcoming, he made our evening even more enjoyable.The mussels and the venison were incredible! Would 100% recommend this place to anyone staying in Newquay, it’s so worth it.

We booked late for Valentine's day tbh couldn't get a table anywhere else,so we turned up with not very high hopes. Well how wrong we were absolutely outstanding food and service. We will be back. The banana parfait is the most luxurious desert I have ever had. Our server Matt was so attentive with being intrusive. Thank you so much for a wonderful dining experience

Having visited Zacry's several times over a number of years it still comes out as one of my favourite restaurants. The service is good, friendly and efficient. The quality of the food excellent and the dishes turn out well.

We ate at Zacry's as part of our Taste of the Bay stay and were not disappointed. The food was good with a decent size menu - not a huge selection but that tends to be the trend nowadays. The only complaint being that we both ordered the slow roasted belly pork and they only had one left. Bearing in mind we had booked a table for 8.00 pm, so not too late, plus we came in just before quite a large party, I find it astonishing not to have one of the main courses on what I have already noted was not the longest of menus anyway. My wife went for the duck cottage pie which was, for us, too salty. The rest of the meal was fine, as was the choice of wine and the service was excellent with an attentive (but not overly so) waitress who could not have been more helpful. As I said in my title, a lovely meal, just spoilt by the fact we couldn't both actually eat what we wanted to eat.

If you want great / amazing food, great service and an attention to dietary needs this is your place. Not an ordinary hoteal restaurant. Nothing else to say. But it is also excellent value for money.

Stayed here for three nights and were never disappointed with the exception of the breakfasts which had a poor choice of cereals.

I have stayed in Watergate bay twice but never at the Watergate Bay hotel as it is beyond my price range (sadly ) . I have avoided dining in the hotel as I believed hotel food is often poor . I have tried the various celebrity chefs restaurants in the area and I have been disappointed in some and not exactly wowed by others .

For our second stay at the Watergate Bay Hotel we decided to try the taste of the bay, with a chance to eat at all 3 restaurants there.

A nice meal had at Zacry’s but not the fine dining experience we had hoped. The main meals were good but the starter (crab maccharoni) was a bit of a let down - no cheese sauce and instead a coriander and chilli dressing rather than a proper sauce. No candle lit at our table and no check back if our meal was ok. A pleasant evening but could be improved.

We stayed at the wonderful Watergate Bay Hotel and were booked for dinner for the three nights. The first night's dinner was truly delicious with friendly and attentive service. We thought we would try Fifteen for the second night but were pleased to be back at Zacry's for our last night. Probably haven't eaten anywhere better than Zacry's in many years visiting Cornwall. The menu was varied, food beautifully executed and the staff were all lovely. All in all a great culinary experience!

From start to finish there is nothing that we didn't like about this place, let them know before hand that we were vegetarians and they did not disappoint. We were seated with a sea view and given a menu clearly marked with what were our vegetarian options. We both had a starter and a main which were to die for. As vegetarians you can often feel like the choices are an after thought. But not here these were beautifully thought out and meals crafted by a truly wonderful chef . The service was exceptional and our every need was met. Can not recommend this place enough and will absolutely be coming back !! Thank you !!

Me and 2 friends came here as a last minute dinner. We’ve all dined at the ‘Living Space’ multiple times but thought we’d give ‘Zacrys’ ago. We were all thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious and different. Full of flavour and a blend of cuisines. The cocktails we had were great too. Highly recommend a - ‘Key Lime Pie’ cocktail - delicious!

We had an absolutely fantastic meal at Zacry’s last night. Everything ordered was cooked to perfection! I was blown away by the attention and service given to ensure that we had a wonderful experience. My son who is 11 years old suffers with a severe cashew and pistachio nut allergy. I emailed the restaurant beforehand and upon arrival all staff were aware, they had reviewed the evenings menu and ticked all the food that he could eat and highlighted exactly which dishes could contain nuts. As a parent, I generally spend the evening checking in my son and asking if he is ok, and him himself sometimes concerned to eat. However the attention provided by the staff made us all relax knowing we were being taken care off. My son commented on this being the best restaurant he has visited and when can he come back .

We had the most amazing meal at Zacry’s last weekend. Great setting, wonderful staff, relaxed atmosphere but still felt luxurious, amazing food and gorgeous wine. The crab starter was to die for! We’ll definitely be back :)

Breakfast is served here when you stay at The Watergate Bay - it is a really good breakfast with plenty of choices available. Dinner menu is really good and highly recommended.

We had a lovely dinner here on our final night in Cornwall. The food was top quality - and whoever thought to put truffled maccheroni with pork belly is a true genius! The menu had a good selection and they were very flexible with kid's options for our three year old (she opted for the fish and chips). The staff were all friendly and accommodating and all-in-all we had a very pleasant evening.

Ate breakfast and dinner here as part of DBB package. Wonderful food, fantastic selection for both breakfast and dinner, and knowledgeable and helpful staff. Couldn't ask for more. Very impressive wine list for dinner, and don't miss the chance to make your own waffles for breakfast!

We booked the restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday and received a welcome glass of sparkling wine on arrival. The menu choice was excellent and the food delicious. The service was attentive and unrushed. We will definitely be back and will recommend you to our friends and family.

Ate there on a quiet evening in early June at the invitation of a colleague. They were really good friendly staff and the chef quickly supplied a modified menu highlighting alternatives that could be done for vegan choices. Great.

We booked Zacrys for my daughters 30th birthday,drinks on the Terrance which was fantastic, staff were fantastic . Restaurant reminded me of being in dinning hall of Butlins at Bogner. Food was average.

Booked this place for the Monday of our weeks stay in Watergate bay after reading good reviews on trip advisor and it didn't disappoint! We parked in the council car park as parking is limited in the area but when we visited (first week of July) it was £1 from 6pm for the evening. We went into the reception of the Watergate bay hotel and it is on the right as you go in. We were greeting by smiling staff and chose a table (luckily we booked for quarter past 7 and it was empty but soon filled up!) The waiter was very good and took our drinks order then the food orders. I would say the menu is quite modern and is a little adventurous but I found it very tasty and presented wonderfully. We both enjoyed the experience and if in the area again on holiday would definitely return.

We have eaten in Zacry's several times before. The food is great, but if you want to taste what you're eating, choose carefully. The accompanying dishes (heavily Japanese influenced at the moment) meant that our monkfish & pork could have been anything - any flavour in the base main course was totally overwhelmed by the over flavoured ingredients. We saw a couple sharing a steak & really wished that we had chosen as they had.

Lovely restaurant, amazing breakfast and very good evening meals. Just a shame we experienced a lot of mistakes with orders. ie other people's drinks arriving on our table, kids meals not coming as requested, waiter not really knowing the menu too well. Despite this they always were very apologetic and rectified the issues, so we were still very satisfied.

We ate here on our last night. We chose the steak for 2. Cooked to perfection with a marmite based sauce which was outstanding. Service very good ambience relaxed atmosphere.

We were staying at the Watergate Bay Hotel and ate here as part of the “Taste of the Bay” deal. It was our second visit and once again it was superb. The view from our table was lovely, the restaurant is nicely presented, the staff are friendly, knowledgeable and attentive and the food was amazing. We love it.

A return visit from staying at the hotel, this time service was slow and a little uninformed yet we selected a simple offering of Sirloin Steak and Fries which I have to say was one of the best we have had, the steak is for 2, the fries three times cooked, and simple string beans to accompany. The chef prepared pepper sauce not on the menu and all was excellent. Unpretentious and excellent food.

On the last night of our holiday I took the wife here after being recommended the restaurant by hollie at wax.

We were staying nearby (not at Watergate Bay) in a not fantastic hotel, but coming across Zacrys made up for that. A wonderfully relaxed ambience, lovely seating on banquettes. The staff were helpful, polite, and brought the most delicious food to our table. We ate pork belly (to die for) with a truffled mac'n'cheese (truly magnificent) and venison with a ragu. Miso salted caramel tart was amazing. We loved it so much we returned the following evening (keen to escape Newquay and our hotel). The cocktails are also delicious.

The restaurant is situated within the Watergate Hotel on the edge of a beautiful North Cornish beach.

Visited recently with my husband as staying nearby and have enjoyed food here in the past. My main course of spice cauliflower soup was really tasty and spiced just to my liking. I ordered the whole plaice with cockles as a main and unfortunately was completely put off when my first taste of cockle was very gritty. As a result did not finish my meal. Manager was very apologetic and did remove part if the cost of the main course

Who knew that hotel restaurants were allowed to be this good. Never had anything less than a superb meal and staff are excellent.

Excellent service, clever interior design and lighting make a large space intimate. The dishes hearty, healthy, sophisticated. An interesting selection of wines with additional temporary selections that accompany the changing menu. Excellent value too.

I went to Zacrys to celebrate my husband’s 60 th Birthday with family. We mentioned this to staff on our arrival. We were asked where we would like to sit and my husband was given a complimentary drink straight away. We ordered the special which was stark and chips to share which was outstanding. We also ordered the venison and pork which was also very tasty.

We ate dinner here. My daughter's dinner order was incorrect, my starter was bland (fig and mozzarella salad), the veg on my main course was undercooked and a cake I had ordered for a surprise took an age to be brought to our table.

Really gorgeous meal - had two courses both were excellent & beautifully presented. The venison was lush. The staff are ultra nice & really attentive without being intrusive. Only downside is the very pricey wine, even so it was very good. Highly recommended.

My wife Amy and myself booked for a evening meal. Lovely venue and loads of atmosphere in the restaurant, the service was excellent and the food outstanding, we were lucky they had lobster on the specials and it was great.
