Amazing. Maybe the best Thai I've ever eaten. Crazy busy atmosphere but fun and welcoming. Highly recommend. I hope to dine there again.

Undoubtedly the food here was great. We are both vegetarian and loved the meat free options. It was good value and tasted lovely. The service could be improved honestly. It was slow for our order to be taken, food took quite a long time for street food to arrive at the table and clearly forgot our drinks as these arrived after the food. Then took a long time to get our bill and a 10% service charge has already been added which is a bit cheeky when the service wasn’t all that great. We were asked to fill in a feedback film on the tablet but then a waitress watched me filling it in so I felt too awkward to be totally honest about the experience…

I had the khao soi soup which was delicious and just like the real thing in northern Thailand!

Loved our visit. One waiter was especially warm and friendly and helped show me the 'right' way to eat a dish that I thought was absolutely delicious. There was a winter special on the menu with a type of Thai sausage served with sticky rice that I had never had before. I asked him how to eat it as it was served with lots of different things- and he explained- take a bite of the sausage, the chilli, the raw garlic and then the sticky rice. The combination was incredible (and wonderfully spicy) and I would never have thought to try it that way. I can't think of a Thai dish I've enjoyed more- in fact I joked to my wife that if we went back I would order the same dish as a starter and a main! The menu is comprehensive, there are so many enticing things on it. Also loved trying a chicken satay bao bun and my brown sugar bubble tea was excellent (and excellent value too). All in all, a wonderful lunch.

Was quite recommended by many, but for us the food taste was quite okay. Ordered a starter and couple of dishes, would say 3.5/5 , but nothing exceptional. Thai milk tea was very good though

been going to the leeds zaap thai for years and im happy to report that the york branch is just as wonderful!! such good decor and just unbelievably delicious food!

So grateful to have Zaap in York. They do what they do very well. Food always good quality, service always friendly and so many tasty vegan things on the menu. Reasonably priced too. Cocktails not for me as they seem to be on the sweeter side but that's just a personal preference. Buzzy atmosphere like a Thai street food place with a couple of tuk tuk seating booths and bright and breezy Thai advertising signs on the walls. There is a upstairs seating too so don't be put off if it looks full downstairs.

A good selection of food with reasonable sized portions. If I’m honest I have had significantly better quality Thai food so if a gastronomic experience is what you are after this isn’t the place for you. Generally an ok experience though.

Standard Thai food and atmosphere Stopped in for a quick bite to eat and had Prawn Pad Thai. Flavour was ok, but nothing stunning. Atmosphere was buzzy, mostly with students. Overall, it’s a little bit pricey for what it’s offering - my noodles were £13.95 and they tacked on an automatic service charge.

Great food, good frendly service, flet like a little bit of Thailand in the middle of York

Was recommended this restaurant by a work colleague and have to say we were not disappointed. Service was great, staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the food was excellent- great choices and all very reasonably priced. Nice touches with the decor to give you that look and feel that you were actually in a genuine street food scene. We would definitely recommend it.

First visit to Zaap in York, but I have been to the Sheffield one a few times, so know the score. The vibe here is street food and this lively restaurant, with open kitchen, does that well. Seated immediately (Sunday 8pm) and service really quick. Bangkok platter to start, with chicken pad kra pao after. So good. Such authentic spice. You can have a fried egg on your pad kra pao. Heaven. Egg heaven. Pandan pancake with ice cream to close. Tasty. The beer was singha. Singha for the people. Fantastic meal. Great place for sharing or individual meals. Choose your preferred method. I like to share; but it does depend who else is there. Some people don’t know how to and you wouldn’t want to risk it.

A nice little place for Thai food if you are looking for authentic flavour. The food here is tasty and hit all the right note you were looking for in Thai food. The pad thai is nice. The only thing for me is the service a bit slow here given the place was quiet when we visit during lunch hour. Also table and menu could do abit of cleaning as it was sticky stain on it.

Fast service for both of us. Hot and freshly prepared food from a great menu with plenty of choice. Chilli pepper symbols denote level of spiciness. Staff are friendly and efficient. I thoroughly recommend Zaap.

I cannot recommend this restaurant due to its poor service, rushed dining experience, and potential discriminatory practices against Asian customers. A respectful and enjoyable dining experience should be the standard, which was starkly missing here. I visited this Thai restaurant during the York festival weekend and was deeply disappointed. After waiting in a queue outside despite empty seats inside, we were finally seated. We faced a long wait of over ten minutes for our food, which, upon arrival, had a noticeable burnt smell, forcing us to eat quickly. The dining experience was further spoiled by the service. Within less than 30 minutes of receiving our meal, we were pressed by the staff to pay and leave. This rush was particularly upsetting as I hadn't even finished my tea. Additionally, a 10% service charge was added to our bill without prior notice. I observed a potential discriminatory practice; British guests were not hurried like Asian customers, suggesting bias in treatment. When my friend later approached the staff to discuss our concerns, the response was merely perfunctory, with a hastily written apology note that lacked sincerity. This dismissive attitude compounded our disappointment. The manager's lukewarm response and reluctant refund offer for the service charge did little to amend the situation. The overall experience was unwelcoming and deeply upsetting, ruining our evening.

Really enjoyed. Great team. Food was tasty and definitely will bring you back to Thailand if you have been there. A place that can definitely become your regular hang out once a week. Bravo.

Yummy Thai food in York. Probably my favorite Thai restaurant in the U.K. Amazing authentic Thai taste and friendly staff. I miss this place.

Ordered from deliveroo, green curry and laab were fantastic, but the pad kee Mao was strangely lacking in flavour and completely void of spice, like they had forgotten to finish it/season it and was also very light on the pork. Shame as the other two dishes were excellent, left my partner a bit disappointed with what was essentially a £13.50 box of noodles.

It was an impulse and it paid off fantastic food loads of variety and the waiting staff were totally charming.

Food was fresh and great...service spot on..certainly return, long time since we ate out and was both delighted...well done Zaap...TOPS..

best bubble tea 🫶🤌 I tried their soups before and i Didn't know they do Bubble tea, quantity was perfect and you can customize your drinks (sugar level , ice cubes , sizes ). Recommended to try their Drinks.

I always thoroughly enjoy eating here and regard it as a special treat, the food is wonderful, the bubble tea was amazing. Everyone looked so happy and the servers are always very polite, welcoming and friendly. I’ll be coming back many times in the future !!

Love Thai food and the food here was really good.

Blown away by the food, drink and service here we were served by Apple who was so lovely and friendly as well as being attentive throughout the meal. The food is very authentic and tastes absolutely amazing! With a huge variety of different meals to try you could eat here every day and never get bored. Apple even helped us through the expansive menu and recommended some favourites. I would highly recommend stopping in for a great experience.

I was there yesterday and it was a tragedy. I ordered a bao bun with pork and a soup, I don't remember the name, but with chicken and coconut milk. the bun was raw and did not want to peel off from the foil/packaging, 3/4 of the meat was fat and parts that you couldn't bite, there were so many inedible leaves in the soup that you had to take the leaves out of your mouth every second spoon, and the waitress She outdid herself, while eating, she came up to me and asked if I was finished and if I wanted to pay, seeing that I was eating and had half a bowl of soup. I was there for the second time, for the first time. it was ok, but yesterday it was some drama. shame.

Do yourself a favor and visit this Thai restaurant if you want to eat authentic Thai food!!! The service was great The food was amazing, especially Papaya Salad (Som Tam Poo Pla Rah). Highly recommend!

Great Thai Street food and very authentic even down to the enamelled plates. Mains were good tasty and reasonable value. The fish cake starters were tasty but overpriced/ small portion. Gyoza were disappointing. Not keen on service charge being added to bill.

Not my first visit but I'd only been once before and that was a long time ago. For context, we visited at lunch time and it was fairly quiet. The overall atmosphere is really great. A lot of effort and imagination has gone into the theming. The lighting, music and view of the central kitchen add to the experience. Service was very good. Attentive and friendly. The menus are interesting, and provide useful descriptions of the origin of the dishes. There's a plant based section, plus many of the dishes have meat or tofu options. The food... I was underwhelmed. I do love Thai food. I just found the flavours lacking, and I found the noodles too oily. Portion sizes were okay. Certainly worth a try if you're in the area.

Absolutely wonderful. We were told from the getgo that they were busy and so everything would be served at the same time but not an issue. Food....well where to start...the fish cakes and crackers superb. My wife had red curry with chicken and I had my favourite, green with king prawns...NOT disappointed! Probably the best Thai meal I have had since being in Thailand....and, considering what we were told...not rushed. Thank you. Will be back! 😀

Went with friends, all male over 60. Not had Thai food before but had starters and mains. Very friendly and patient staff. The food was very good and wasn't long in coming. The food was very tasty and not expensive, very good value for money. Price was £35 each including 2 bottles of beer each.

Brought my girlfriend for her first experience of Thai food - she's a convert! Loved the variety of options, and especially the dessert selection. Excellent food all around.

I paid 45 pounds for two starters two mains a glass of coke and a small mocktail . They gave me the wrong starter and refused to change it because “they decided to give me something else” I tried to question this and the waitress walked away. My main came out cold so i asked for it to be fixed . They put the same food back on the wok and handed it back to me . Overall the experience was poor and the food was underwhelming .

Visited this restaurant with two colleagues for a quick lunch. Firstly music was very loud even though we asked them to drop it a few decibels Biggest issue was that when they brought the bill we where not offered an itemised bill. We paid and left £5 tip, the waiter accepted this tip but failed to tell us that 10% service charge was already on the bill. Would have noticed this with an itemised bill. Total tip now £13.50 for mediocre food in small portions with loud music. Beware of the tip con if you choose to visit this place We won’t be going back

Been twice now, both times been really good. Food was deffo fresh and the flavours were super nice and tasty. The service was awesome but I only have 4 due to the business and the server actually forgot our drinks for quite sometime. We were happy as it was a nice meal out and totally understand that they were busy and rushing around. Easily done. Get to this place you will love it!!

I was looking forward to eating here as it is so well reviewed and the decor looks great. Unfortunately a big chunk of the pork served with my meal was raw. I did mention this to the manager and she was apologetic and I know mistakes happen. However I thought it could've been handled better and at least I would have expected the service charge to be removed from my bill. Other than that Im hoping that this is a rare experience and that I don't become unwell in the next day or so. Raw pork and proper food probing is something I would hope a chain is on top of. Other than that lovely staff.

We normally visit the Thai at The Shambles market, which is great, but on a cold and wet Monday in November, indoor eating beckoned. We had been to the Leeds branch and really enjoyed the experience. York did not disappoint, very warm welcome, help with the gluten free options (loads) and offers to dial down the heat on dishes if required. I chose the soup... 'best in the world' and was blown away with the presentation and flavour. Huge bowl, enough for 2 people, just enough bite in the liquid to remind me it was Thai, loads of bean sprouts and noodles, with a birds nest topping and chicken on the bone for protein. Service was great and friendly. Food prices very reasonable, drinks less so. Look forward to our next visit.

Always return as so much on the menu so always something new to try. Full of Thai diners so that's a good sign it's decent. Great food and even better cocktails.

The food was brilliant and there's no shortage of options, there's almost too much to choose from. Staff is kind, and the service is quick. The decertations within the restaurant itself are above and beyond, with many Thai billboards hanging from the celling, and some walls even covered with Thai grafiti. It feels like being in Bangkok, this place truly does take you back to the streets of that city. No complaints, would come back again.

Another visit to York, another visit to Zaap. Good Thai food served well. Good friendly staff. Does get busy quickly just after opening every day.

As a returning customer to Zapp having a surprising and positive experience in the Newcastle branch I brought my partner for the first time, so we could try this one together. (Second visit to Zapp, first visit in York) +The Venue: Themed to provide the feel of an authentic Thai street vendor. With tables arranged to provide ample space for guests. It makes the atmosphere both personal, while always makes you feel like you are part of a crowd. The chairs can become a little uncomfortable. (Did not see any of the Tuktuk seating booths they have else where). +The Food: As previously enjoyed, the food does not disappoint. Hearty with authentic taste and ingredients. The portion sizes are good, especially considering how filling they are. Suitable options for all allergies. Vegetarian and Vegan friendly. A big range of refreshment on offer, with imported largers. Thai cocktails, mocktails and soft drinks. -The Service: The welcome and seating was fast. Although we were not offered any particular seating areas. Our order was taken in reasonable time, along with the meal arriving fresh and hot, without leaving us wondering how long. And a check a short time later to make sure the food was alright. Unfortunately, that is where the service element ended for us that evening. Simply due to the fact we were given minimal opportunity for any interaction there after. No check for additional drinks, clearing of plates or provision for further food or desserts. The hardest part was gaining attention for the bill, once we decided that we were not going to get attended for anything further. We eventually paid the bill... almost 25 minutes after finishing out meal, and well after finishing our drinks. +The Cost: Reasonably priced, affordable. Obviously not as cheap as a street market. It could become expensive depending on how many dishes or what drinks are served. Main courses around £13 a dish no matter the option of meat or vegetarian, which was a bonus. Alternatively, build a meal from Dim Sum dishes! There is also a 10% service tip. Overall: Based on this occasion, delicious, authentic Thai food, with fitting venue. Poor level of service, mostly through lack of interaction. Hints & Tips: First time? Explore the Dim Sum. Very filling. Imported largers!

oh my god ! best food i’ve had EVER in york and possibly anywhere. service was fantastic and staff were knowledgeable and helpful. the food was insane! spring rolls and bao buns were absolutely brilliant. the curries were amazing, bright and flavourful. the value for money is spot on. couldn’t recommend more !

This was dismal even for a chain. The starter platter tasted like it was bought in a supermarket (and not a good one). The mains for our table turned up at different times, mine ten minutes after the first two. Mine was meant to be “Crispy egg noodles in thick Thai gravy sauce with pork” according to the menu/my choice but there was no pork, and the noodles were virtually uncooked, just laid on top of the gravy. Just chunks of cabbage, carrot and mushrooms in gravy, essentially. The other dishes at the table looked pretty bland too. Also the online menu doesn’t correspond to reality: to save time I’d earlier decided on Bao Buns but when you get the hard copy menu they only serve them till 6pm. So then you have to look through the double-sided A3 size menu of dozens and dozens of options (itself a red flag). All round, really rubbish meal.

We were visiting York and wanted a place to eat that was non chain. Although Zaap does have other branches, we have none local to us. A lovely meal in relaxed but comfy surroundings. A very extensive menu too although I did opt for a Phad Thai. This was very tasty and is perhaps a sign of the menu at large. Such great service too! Fast (but not rushed) efficient and friendly.

Paid £10 for two Boa Buns which were disappointing. The bun holding them together was damp and tasteless while the duck tasted as though it was previously frozen and covered in sauce to cover this fact. The chicken of the chicken and mango bun was crispy but the mango was awful. The fizzy bubble tea was not fizzy at all, very mediocre in fact with very little flavour. Would not recommend for the prices paid.

York Zaap not the best as I’ve been to others. Starter was good but the mains were disappointing. I had Morning Glory with ginger garlic and Pork Belly which was inedible and my wife had Pad Thai with Pork which also was inedible. The service...

We called in to ZAAP for lunch while on visit to York, not knowing what to expect. What a fantastic result. The food was superb, we chose 5 starters between the two of us as it was late lunch time. Everything was really nice (and we are by no means connoisseurs of Thai food). Nothing was too spicy. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was spot on. All at very reasonable prices. We'll certainly make ZAAP the first port of call on our next visit

My partner and I found Zap while walking around York, the menu looked extensive, with lots of tasty dishes. We were seated quickly even though we didn't have a reservation. Our orders were quickly taken and arrived not long after that. The food was hot...

I ate twice in this place in a span of a week. It says a lot of how well they cook and present Thai cuisine. I was also welcomed and served warmly by the waiters and waitresses.

The most delicious Thai food I've had in England. I'm spoiled for choice in London and this is still the best. I'm coming back to York just for this place. Very reasonably priced, the staff are really charismatic and charming, they all know the menu really well and are happy to give you suggestions if you're unsure. Really glad we came here on our last night in York.

Thai dishes are average and bland. Better to go to a proper Thai restaurant for authentic Thai.
