Bombay Spice in York

Had the Saturday lunch time special but you would never have guessed. Superb food with great presentation and a bargain price can't recommend highly enough.

Not very clean. Feels yuck overall. Average food.

I have been to a lot of curry houses in York(almost all of them) and this place is the best BY FAR. If you are in York and want curry this is THE BEST. Simply different gravy. Top tier scran. Service is top tier and food even better

Absolutely amazing service, all the staff were great, the food was brilliant. They provided free drinks after the meal, and then a cup of tea with biscuits. One of the best food experiences I’ve ever had, will definitely be coming back and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Excellent food, even better service. The restaurant has great personality, it is (by far) the best Indian in York. Great people, give it a shot, you won't regret.

They have waiting for 10-15 mints. The order served late 20-30 mints waiting. The portion of food is very less than we expected the prices are higher than the quantity of the food. As the biryani served in small bowl which is enough for having soup. We can serve curry in that bowl not the biryani’s and also the biryani curry some kind of vegetable should be their but they give us potatoes curry their is no vegetables inside the curry they serve with biryani. No vegetables in vegetable biryani. I don’t know how they prepare food or they don’t know to make vegetable biryani. Very poor vegetable biryani. Totally unsatisfactory with the food portion it’s for kid menu with the adult prices The garlic naan was cold and no butter in garlic and even garlic is also missing from the Naan so i don’t know what they served and what we ordered totally wrong served food or it’s same like they don’t know what to put in garlic naan or how to make it. I don’t know what they served wrong or take wrong order but our bill was right. The curry bowl is bigger than the vegetable biryani bowl I don’t know how it’s possible. Totally unprofessional chefs and the presentation of the food they don’t know which portions should served the quantity is not enough for 1 person also. The food taste was not so great it just no taste in food only tomatoes and no salt in food how it’s possible. No salt in food. Any food. Low standards food they charge higher than what they serve so I wouldn’t recommend this place. They have good ratings throughout but not up to the mark concerning its prices. Anyway we paid our bill and leave the restaurant with disappointment.

Good food but waiter took it upon himself to add a tip even though we put money in the service tray for a tip. Be careful when paying with card as they feel they can tip there selves

Oh wow, what can i say about this Indian restaurant?!?! I phoned up at about 5:30pm on Saturday 2nd March and asked if they had a table for 5 people that night at 8pm, it was no problem at all for them! We arrived early to the restaurant which was no problem for them, we were seated. The food was just beautiful. Has to be one of the, nicest Indian meals I have had. Great portian sizes, nice drinks, friendly enough staff, the place itself was lovely. At the end of the meal we were all offered a choice of two alcoholic drinks which was very nice of them, so we all enjoyed a baileys. I would definitely recommend this lovely Indian!!

Lovely meal, I had Chicken Dhansak and they were very good at accommodating for food intolerances and cooked it without any milk or cream in it. The onion baji's were lovely and not too spicy. The service was good and would def recommend. Would have given 5 * for food but the chicken was a little tougher than I would have liked.

Best Indian takeaway in york imo every dish I’ve had is really tasty. I pretty much order every week and have never been disappointed. The garlic chilli chicken balti is gorgeous and not too hot that it spoils the taste of all the other lovely spices.

Service was okay but food wise it was flavourles, The chicken and spinach curry tasted like I’d gone to the local park and chomped on a tree and the rogan Josh tasted like tomato purée, there is a lot better places to eat for the money, I really don’t mind paying for food but I must say I am very disappointed because I can’t cook for the life in me but honestly I could of done a better job

Lovely people. One dish was a little different to what was expected, hence only 4 stars. Atmosphere lovely downstairs, upstart less so, hence the 4 stars. Lager was expensive, but I often think this in a lot of places!

Me and my wife recently visited York and tried Indian food here, take my words these guys are the best by service and hospitality. Love the food and the beers.

Terrible service. Half way through popadoms and pickle tray(5mins after placing order) waiter brought our mains to the table and was trying to rush us to get table set up.Sent them back so he kept us waiting an age in spite, in a freezing cold restaurant before returning.Food bland.

An absoylute wonderful place to visit. The Staff are outstanding, helpful, friendly and totally go out of their way to give a fantastic service. The prices for the food are fair, a good choice of drinks also at reasonable prices. 10/10.

What I would do is walk a little bit further and go to Bengal Brassiere. The service in here is diabolical and the food not much better.

Was a walk-in, greeted at the door. Given a table near the front, was quite busy. Despite walking in an hour before closing, we were sorted for the meal. Many thanks.

It was alright. I still think the potato curry should be majorly made of chilli powder.

Went for a small lunch. Had 4 vegetable side dishes, plus chapatis. All food was freshly cooked, minimal oil/ghee, and very tasty. Very good.

Great looking places with lots of attentive and friendly staff. Poppadoms and chutneys to start were well priced and the Poppadoms were thin and not grease at all. I order the CHICKEN KARAHI and hubby the CHICKEN GARLIC CHILLI plus sides of rice, Chana masala, Saag aloo and garlic nan. Nan was thin and delicious, would return just to try the other types! Chana and Saag were delicious, great portions for sides and well priced. Hubby really enjoyed his garlic chilli dish. My Karahi however was spicier than his dish and I couldn't eat it. Therefore Hubby ate both chicken dishes and I ate the side dishes. I should has asked for yogurt but it didn't detract from how tasty the other food was. The man at the next table ordered the same and he commented to his partner how spicy it was too. We did tell the waiter at the end and he said no chilli or hot spices in the dish so probably best to check spice level if you're not used to as much heat! We would return but I would probably order a tikka masala or korma next time to be on the safe side

Fabulous dining at Bombay Spice in York, visited with our friends from out of town. The food choices in York are great but you won't find a better Indian Restaurant than Bombay Spice. My curry of choice is Garlic Chili Chicken - wow they get this dish bang on. Excellent service combined with excellent food makes this our No 1 spot for Indian cuisine in York - and it's on the way home as well!!

A good find in York. Very friendly staff, and a wide selection of dishes. Would recommend the Tandoori mix grill. Service was good and very attentive. Would definitely return. Would recommend but book because walk-ins are limited.

Food was delicious, starter lovely, curry on par- very tasty; however, meat to both dishes was overcooked. Service: cannot fault, attentive in all the right places. Gave enough time between courses and offered refreshments in-between. Even offered a night cap on the house. Atmosphere: cosy, warm, authentic, lights dimmed, music good

First time in York and chose dinner at Bombay Spice, we arrived just after opening at 5p.m & greeted with friendly smiling faces , service was lovely, and the food was delicious compliments too the chef , myself and hubby both pleased with our meals starter and main , personally my Chicken Tikka Masala was so tasty and rich creamy sauce , loved it and if it was up to me I would of eaten there for all 3 of our nights whilst in York. Highly recommend , thank you .

We visited with our 2-year-old for a family birthday meal. The food was pleasant, but we encountered an issue with the red wine we ordered—it was fizzy and tasted bad. Initially, we considered overlooking it, but after some quick online research, we realised the wine was spoiled, it happens when there's something wrong that makes the wine continue to ferment. We requested a replacement. Surprisingly, the second bottle was also fizzy. We felt uncomfortable voicing further complaints, as it seemed the staff doubted our claims. We reluctantly continued with the fizzy wine. To add to our disappointment, we were charged on the bill by approximately £3 for the first spoiled glass. I found this disgusting service, as it's likely they would have just served the remaining wine by the glass to other customers, and simply charged us for the disgusting fizzy glass. Despite these issues, we left a 5% tip, primarily because dining out with a toddler is challenging and we already felt like we'd been a huge hassle. However, we felt undervalued as patrons and won't be returning.

Deserves its Place at the Top of the Leader Board! We were looking for an Indian restaurant close by and the Bombay Spice jumped out on TA. Arriving at 1700, they have an early discounted menu until 1830 which we took advantage of. The food, starters and mains were excellent and we both particularly enjoyed the lemon rice. Service was quick, polite, efficient and friendly. Thoroughly recommended.

Our favourite Indian restaurant. Always great food and friendly staff. We definitely recommend this as one of if not the best we’ve had. It’s one we keep going back to. Well done Bombay Spice, keep up the great work!

Lovely, unassuming wee place. My daughter & I were the only customers initially but it soon started to fill. Food was delicious! With a very fussy child, to see her plate cleared is a sure sign of success!!

Hi we visited here on Saturday 23rd September 2023 We booked a table on the Thursday When we arrived there was no table booked for us but luckily enough there where a few spare tables We sat down then ordered drinks which took some time to arrive then we ordered our food which took a long time and the same as the bill I had to ask for it and the other table was waiting a while too I had to ask one of the staff to ask a lady customer to stock puffing on her vape as she was doing this non stop until her food arrived but nothing was mentioned We thought that the food overall was good but the staff where so disorganised It’s a shame to say we would go elsewhere when visiting York again

Found Bombay Spice whilst walking around York, and so glad we did. The food is pretty special and everyone was very friendly. I would recommend this restaurant if you enjoy Indian food.

Place was lovely, was our first time there. Unfortunately, we asked for fish pakora and poppadoms to start with, finished the poppadoms and suddenly our mains came, no pakora. We weren't charged for it, but chose the place mainly for the fish pakora. The butter paneer was delicious and full of flavour, pathia lacked flavour and sweetness, had a decent kick but no flavour and was watery. Naan bread small, expensive drinks.
