Took my partner for a birthday meal because we were staying in york for the weekend. Very disappointed food full of grease and swimming in it personally uneatable. At the time we went 8 teenagers in their also coursing mayhem and nothing said to them at all by the owner or staff this is the place to avoid if you're planning on a nice meal and quiet relaxing time you got no chance. The staff are very arrogant and none helpful.

Called in here as we had never had an Indian meal in York before, and judging by how busy it looked, we thought it would be a good choice. How right we were. Fabulous service, piping hot delicious food at a great price. We were even offered a free drink. The chicken bhuna was succulent, with just the right amount of spice and my other half said that the meat platter starter was the best he had ever tasted! A fabulous end to our little break!

Not the best Indian food. The flavors were not very strong even though we ordered spicy and the portions were only for 1 person. The service was good but the restaurant really needs to improve the food.

Not great. I was with a group and I only wanted a starter. I clearly said "can I have it as a main, I haven't got much of an appetite" meaning I'd like to eat it with the others as they have their mains. The waiter then 'bulked it up' to a main size and price. I did think blimey they serve big portions, but didn't think any more of it and only ate half. The bill said otherwise. Really cheeky. Plus, a waitress scowled when we asked for the bill, as in 'you lot haven't spent enough yet'. Very strange. 50/50 for customer service overall.

Nice restaurant located in the center of York. Very friendly personell from Bangladesh. I ordered a Lamb Rogan Josh. Not the best I’ve had (I’ve eaten Rogan Josh at many Indian restaurants) but still very good. Very generous portions, and adequately spiced. Very recommended!

Gone massively downhill. Ordered a takeaway from here. Wrong stuff arrived and was really cold. Phoned them and they tried to blame the poor delivery driver for picking up the wrong bag - yet it had a label with the correct order written on it. They didn’t apologise, accepted no responsibility. Offered no solution and were generally very rude. Will never order from here or eat there again!

I think calling this “Chicken Tikka curry” should be considered crime. It’s literally just some coconut paste with artificial red color and 0 spices in it. Being an Indian and visiting UK for the first time and trying this is shocking. Add some spices to it for god sake. Scamming people for 12 pounds for this garbage. Very disappointed

Found the lamb to be tough and dry, tried to eat but preferred not too.

Small portions, very average curry (onion bhaji was nice). Terrible place if you're a vegan. I didn't like the offer of alcohol "on the house" at the end of the meal. This could be dangerous and should not be offered.

Very tasty curry and papadoms as well as Kingfisher on tap. Fast service that responds to customer requests. Unfortunately the ambience is just average. All in all it was a nice evening.

Nice place we went for our dinner and both got the lunch special you get a curry of ure choice rice and naan for £14. We got a lamb pathia and chicken Balti both tasty . only thing I would of liked the lamb a bit softer

Tried to find the curry house we visited a few years back but had no luck. So with Trip Advisor awards, we gave it a go. Hubby enjoyed his chicken tikka pathia. My chicken tikka masala was VERY red, and there was way too much sauce. I wanted a mixed veg side, but there wasn't one on the menu that I wanted, so we went for veg rice. The naan bread was overcooked. The restaurant itself was a bit chilly with the air-con on too low. Overall...a standard meal....but nothing special.

Can't complain, in a way, about the service but the food was dire. Seemed very a Ping Ping one to me.

We went in here for a spontaneous visit and we were so glad we did. Food was amazing. Served piping hot and the food was very fresh and flavoursome. Definitely worth a visit.

For anyone who loves Indian food then Bombay Spice should be on your list of restaurants to visit. Not only do you get amazing choice of food, you also get fantastic meals, served by staff who are friendly and helpful. We had a fantastic experience. There were 10 of us in for a Birthday party, once the drinks had been served all the food for all 10 people arrived together. Amazing service.

We just visited york and found this absolute gem!! Very posh and upper class decor, staff amazing, food was top level. Price was great also, would highly recommended and is also open until late!

Thursday evening meal whilst away visiting York City Centre with the ball and Chain. Lovely greeting for a ‘walk in’ guest during a busy period for the restaurant. Was appreciated. Sat immediately and provided menus. However, ordered a starter of meat sharing platter and then shared a Thali between 2. Excellent food, Perfect portion sizes, lovely variation in flavours and excellent value for money, for the food. One critique would be the price of the alcohol. Very expensive at 6/7 quid for a beer/cider - and expensive for a soft drink. Decor was nice and modern, looked very clean. All over, very pleasant experience and would certainly return to sample rest of menu - but may ask to bring my own beer!

We had a spontaneous trip away and walked passed this place. It was so cozy inside and great for people watching. The food was amazing and we even had a shot on the house. Great place, warm atmosphere and would definitely recommend.

We visited back in 2021 and had a fantastic meal and when we booked to stay in York for my wife’s birthday could not wait to return and it was just as good as our first visit. Service was quick and the food was delicious, the best onion bhaji I have tasted. The staff were so welcoming and helpful and surprised my wife after our meal with a lovely ice cream and chocolate brownie desert. We will definitely return when next in York.

Regular customers at this great little Indian restaurant in the heart of York. Friendly welcome, really good customer service throughout and wonderful food. Last visit, we had Chicken Jalfrazi and Chicken tikka Balti, both really tasty. Complimentary brandy afterwards...what is there not to like?

Absolutely amazing service, all the staff were great, the food was brilliant. They provided free drinks after the meal, and then a cup of tea with biscuits. One of the best food experiences I’ve ever had, will definitely be coming back and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

I have been to a lot of curry houses in York(almost all of them) and this place is the best BY FAR. If you are in York and want curry this is THE BEST. Simply different gravy. Top tier scran. Service is top tier and food even better

Absolute disgusting experience,asked for a plain chicken curry,we received chicken tikka masala which we don't particularly like.Spoke to the waiter who said it wasn't tikka masala,I've been eating curries all over the world for over forty years and know a tikka masala when I see one , garlic nan bread was like a biscuit, would never go to this restaurant again, it was that bad.

They have waiting for 10-15 mints. The order served late 20-30 mints waiting. The portion of food is very less than we expected the prices are higher than the quantity of the food. As the biryani served in small bowl which is enough for having soup. We can serve curry in that bowl not the biryani’s and also the biryani curry some kind of vegetable should be their but they give us potatoes curry their is no vegetables inside the curry they serve with biryani. No vegetables in vegetable biryani. I don’t know how they prepare food or they don’t know to make vegetable biryani. Very poor vegetable biryani. Totally unsatisfactory with the food portion it’s for kid menu with the adult prices The garlic naan was cold and no butter in garlic and even garlic is also missing from the Naan so i don’t know what they served and what we ordered totally wrong served food or it’s same like they don’t know what to put in garlic naan or how to make it. I don’t know what they served wrong or take wrong order but our bill was right. The curry bowl is bigger than the vegetable biryani bowl I don’t know how it’s possible. Totally unprofessional chefs and the presentation of the food they don’t know which portions should served the quantity is not enough for 1 person also. The food taste was not so great it just no taste in food only tomatoes and no salt in food how it’s possible. No salt in food. Any food. Low standards food they charge higher than what they serve so I wouldn’t recommend this place. They have good ratings throughout but not up to the mark concerning its prices. Anyway we paid our bill and leave the restaurant with disappointment.

Good quality (cooked nicely and not oily) and quantity( good ais portion) but no flavor in food. Spices were missing no flavor in dishes.

Turned up without a reservation but the waiter quickly found us a table. It was our first time here and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious and delivered very quickly. Too much so we took some home. Staff very friendly only downside to the evening the tables were too close together. We sat near the window and the table next to us were so close and loud we could hardly converse with each other. We felt very uncomfortable. I would come again and ask for a different table.

Oh wow, what can i say about this Indian restaurant?!?! I phoned up at about 5:30pm on Saturday 2nd March and asked if they had a table for 5 people that night at 8pm, it was no problem at all for them! We arrived early to the restaurant which was no problem for them, we were seated. The food was just beautiful. Has to be one of the, nicest Indian meals I have had. Great portian sizes, nice drinks, friendly enough staff, the place itself was lovely. At the end of the meal we were all offered a choice of two alcoholic drinks which was very nice of them, so we all enjoyed a baileys. I would definitely recommend this lovely Indian!!

Lovely meal, I had Chicken Dhansak and they were very good at accommodating for food intolerances and cooked it without any milk or cream in it. The onion baji's were lovely and not too spicy. The service was good and would def recommend. Would have given 5 * for food but the chicken was a little tougher than I would have liked.

Best Indian takeaway in york imo every dish I’ve had is really tasty. I pretty much order every week and have never been disappointed. The garlic chilli chicken balti is gorgeous and not too hot that it spoils the taste of all the other lovely spices.

Service was okay but food wise it was flavourles, The chicken and spinach curry tasted like I’d gone to the local park and chomped on a tree and the rogan Josh tasted like tomato purée, there is a lot better places to eat for the money, I really don’t mind paying for food but I must say I am very disappointed because I can’t cook for the life in me but honestly I could of done a better job

Lovely people. One dish was a little different to what was expected, hence only 4 stars. Atmosphere lovely downstairs, upstart less so, hence the 4 stars. Lager was expensive, but I often think this in a lot of places!

Terrible service. Half way through popadoms and pickle tray(5mins after placing order) waiter brought our mains to the table and was trying to rush us to get table set up.Sent them back so he kept us waiting an age in spite, in a freezing cold restaurant before returning.Food bland.

An absoylute wonderful place to visit. The Staff are outstanding, helpful, friendly and totally go out of their way to give a fantastic service. The prices for the food are fair, a good choice of drinks also at reasonable prices. 10/10.

What I would do is walk a little bit further and go to Bengal Brassiere. The service in here is diabolical and the food not much better.

Was a walk-in, greeted at the door. Given a table near the front, was quite busy. Despite walking in an hour before closing, we were sorted for the meal. Many thanks.

Went for a small lunch. Had 4 vegetable side dishes, plus chapatis. All food was freshly cooked, minimal oil/ghee, and very tasty. Very good.

Great looking places with lots of attentive and friendly staff. Poppadoms and chutneys to start were well priced and the Poppadoms were thin and not grease at all. I order the CHICKEN KARAHI and hubby the CHICKEN GARLIC CHILLI plus sides of rice, Chana masala, Saag aloo and garlic nan. Nan was thin and delicious, would return just to try the other types! Chana and Saag were delicious, great portions for sides and well priced. Hubby really enjoyed his garlic chilli dish. My Karahi however was spicier than his dish and I couldn't eat it. Therefore Hubby ate both chicken dishes and I ate the side dishes. I should has asked for yogurt but it didn't detract from how tasty the other food was. The man at the next table ordered the same and he commented to his partner how spicy it was too. We did tell the waiter at the end and he said no chilli or hot spices in the dish so probably best to check spice level if you're not used to as much heat! We would return but I would probably order a tikka masala or korma next time to be on the safe side
