Zaalsha in Sandwell

Food was luke warm even though we live literally 3 minute drive from shop!. Chicken Tikka bhuna may aswel be changed to tomatoe sauce with chicken I requested mild that must mean they take all seasoning out of it no tatste as all. Everything tasted salty even the poppadoms. Hubby had lamb balti with extra chickpeas mild, again no taste and more chick peas than lamb!! Most tasteless meal we have ever had!!

Very nice place, fantastic service. Plenty of choice on the menu. Onion bhajis are lovely, the biryani sauce was different. Quite tasty but I prefer the biryani from another nearby place, just personal preference really.

We wanted to try our local Indian restaurant as we have recently moved to the area. We saw it had really good reviews so we thought we would give it a go. At first, the service was slow, but it was a busy Saturday night so we understood. However, the tables around us were getting served before us which was really annoying as we have waited over an hour for our food. We addressed this politely and they were sorry and said we will get it out right away. Once the food did turn up, it was bland and tasteless. You could tell they had rushed the order to get the food out. We were so disappointed as it was my partners birthday and the night wasn’t going so well! We did complain but the staff weren’t understanding, they were argumentative with my partner, making it a really terrible experience. I would avoid if you don’t want to be disappointed.

We decided to try somewhere different from our usual. I was told the food at Zaalsha was nice. We ordered a "Norwegian" prawn balti, mushroom pilau, palak paneer and baigan jhool and tandoori roti. My partner is Punjabi so knows a thing or two about Indian food. We got free poppadoms which was. The selection of food there is great. The mushroom rice was nice, the jhool ok, the roti wasn't very well cooked and the balti unfortunately tasted of, well, not very much at all. I had to add lemon juice to try and save it but it was really disappointing. Compared to Kashmir on Bearwood or the Covered Wagon in Billesley this doesn't come close to taste, and despite the nice selection of food and the nice looking restaurant, what makes you come back is how tasty the food was and this was just a bit dull unfortunately.

This is one of our favourite restaurants whether for a casual night out "just the two of us" or an evening with family and friends. The food is very good, there's a lovely ambiance and a welcome that can not be faulted.

This has got to be the best Indian restaurant ever … the food is absolutely delicious and the staff are the friendliest I’ve ever met…. I try to get here whenever I visit Birmingham and totally recommend others try it

My husband used this takeaway as our usual takeaway was closed. The prices were higher than our usual takeaway, but also a high cost for a takeaway! The initial reviews looked good and it made it look like the high cost was possibly reflected in their quality of food? What a complete disappointment, I had Shahi paneer masala and my husband had king prawn balti. Both dishes came in a bright red sauce (more tika), both were of a thick bright red paste-like consistency and very very sweet, nothing like they should look! Both of us have had such dishes on numerous occasions from other takeaways, and been very happy with them. It appears they had used the same paste/sauce for both dishes, which was quite in edible and had a disgusting taste!! The high cost is what it is, but to receive such food which does not in any way reflect the dishes ordered, is completely out of order and a disgrace !! Needless to say we would not use this indian takaway again and would definitely not recommend them . PLEASE TREAT CUSTOMERS WITH RESPECT!!!!

It's alright. Not the most authentic. Paneer was disappointingly sliced so thinly you'd barely know it was there, samosas were tiny.

Ordered here after so long . Food took over hour . The lamb tikka was bland. The lamb biryani tasted burnt and not something I've tasted before . The balti was OK again bland a little . The rice was sweet for some reason. Certainly agree with other review food seems to have changed. Last time I ordered was few months back and was lovely . Tonight was not to my liking . Just my own opinion not reflection on business as just my taste buds .The prices here are high so I'm expecting tasty quality food which I feel was not the case tonight

Best curry in Bearwood. Very tasty food and the service is very good too. Frequently ordered takeaway from here too, being a local resident. Never had a bad meal.

My reviews on Zaalsha are always 5 stars. That is because of the quality of the food, the staff and the ambience. Because of that I won’t repeat myself as all of these aspects are always excellent. What I have noticed is the number of regulars that this restaurant has . A clear sign that the value all that is this superb food establishment. I’ll say it again Zaalsha is the best restaurant in Birmingham.

Absolutely lovely food and brilliant service. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was exquisite. Veg dishes had a different flavour with each mouthful and the meat dishes were delightful too. Service brilliant and would thoroughly recommend. Excellent all round; will definitely come again.

Superb Bangladeshi restaurant with a great range of interesting dishes on the menu and superb service. We enjoyed some well presented dishes, which were delicious.

This time we were celebrating a special family occasion. There were seven adults and the same four children from before. Everyone of the party had a wonderful time due mostly to the food that they ate. In all eight different dishes were serve, five of them combination dishes( two half choices served separately). Each dish was superb . The quality of the food was excellent. In all we had twelve different dishes, six naans and four pilau rice. It was late on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was three quarters full of customers enjoying a quality experience. This has to be the best spice restaurant in Birmingham. Zac and his team pull all stops out to make the occasion go as well as possible. Thank you to all the staff both front of house and in the kitchen. If you haven’t tried this restaurant, what is stopping you?

Reviews are always a matter of opinion and clearly everyone has the right to have their say. To R7OU and katiebee 76 i emphatically say that you are both not right. The food at this restaurant is always very tasty and could never be considered ‘ bland’. I say this as a regular visitor since it opened. I also point out to them the number of five star ratings it has. This last visit was a family one with five adults and four children. Most of the adults had combination dishes so in total we sampled twelve dishes between us. We had a variety of heat within the meal and every single one was excellent. The variety of naans too were of the same standard. Zac and his team do care about each customer’s enjoyment and will go out of their way to make things right. I repeat my message from previous reviews: Zaalsha is the best restaurant in the south of Birmingham.

Food seems to have gone downhill over the last few years...not as tasty....more sauce than anything and a bit bland.

I'd been here before and enjoyed my food. Booked to go on my anniversary. Starters were OK at best - very dry. Main course was awful, literally no taste. I made staff aware and as I'd left nearly whole dish it was evident I wasn't enjoying it. Partners meals also not very tasty. Nann was dry and hard. Chips were nice! They refunded my meal but made me feel that my complaint about my meal was unjustified. Disappointing meal and service. I won't return which is sad. I think I would of put it down to one bad meal if I'd been dealt with in a more emphatic way rather than I'm wrong. Oh well, lots of other places local to try.

The restaurant is extremely clean & hygienic. The staff are respectable & polite & well mannered They treat there customers with kindness & sincerty, & special. The food is clean & cooked to a high standard, not to mention delicious aswell 10 out of 10 I certainly will be having a meal there again with friends🙏👌✨️

Lovely food, lovely setting, great staff. You're welcome to bring your own drinks, even though they gave a well stocked bar. Not many in on the night we were in, and it was a bit chilly. Otherwise fabulous

People reading this or any other of my reviews on Zaalsha might think that I’m a ringer. I’m not! I pay my way and speak my mind. When something is wrong I’m quick to challenge and equally when things are good I will praise. The age around tonight’s table was 4-/73, a hard to please group with a variety of tastes. The popadoms were warm and crisp, the trays of onions and sauces a gorgeous variety of spice and refreshing. Three of us had combinations and the other single dishes. That’s 10 dishes in total and all were delicious. Whether we had chicken, lamb or tiger prawns each were cooked to perfection, the meat’s soft and tender the prawns were huge and perfectly cooked. Our naans were lovely too! I have run out of superlatives to describe Zaalsha. The food, drink and service are exemplary and while some might say it’s on the pricey side, I would disagree. If it’s great food that you are after a visit to Zaalsha is a must!

We had our first takeaway from Zaalsha last Monday and, apart from the starters (we had chosen the vegetable stuffed pepper, the meal was tremendous. We are convinced that portions were bigger than they are in the restaurant. We probably made the wrong menu choice for our starter, for me, the (whole) pepper was stuffed with all the vegetables I either can't eat or just don't like ... But our main courses (Lamb Kaalia) were delicious (so much food I had to leave a bit, I was just so full) and wonderful hot/spicy ..... We had also ordered a cauliflower only bhaji, a spinach something, and mushroom bhaji. the spinach side was just wonderful, but we thought that the mushroom and cauli dishes were a bit on the sloppy side (they don't seem to come up that sloppy when you dine at the restaurant. However, that said, the meal was absolutely delicious!

I like my food packed with flavour and a bit of heat. Similarly do does the wife but with much less heat. Just for a change I went with a sag pathia, the wife a dupiaza. Superb chicken in both our mains, and we enjoyed the sides. One odd thing was that the Kulfi dessert comprised of two of those "dalek" looking portions. Not the cheapest around but well worth it especially as you can take your own alcohol. Parking may be an issue but it's definitely worth a short walk if needed.

Wife and l spent Christmas and New Year with our daughters in Harborne and Bournville, Birmingham. First time in years due to their shift rota! NHS. Having been a regular for a few years, we had to have a takeaway from Zaalshas Indian Restaurant. We all had different meals each and did the usual tasting of each others. Every meal was very tasty without being excessively hot or bland. The quantity of food allowed some ‘extra’ meals for the following day, again enjoyed! Certainly value for money and sooooo tasty, the sides of Bhaji’s, Samosa’s, Pakora’s etc etc were sublime, as was the rest of the meal. A big THANK YOU to all the guys working there. Looking forward to Feb 2023 for our next visit!

Visited Zaalsha tonight and the food was absolutely perfect. I would recommend visiting if you haven’t already. Zaak and the team were 10/10 for customer service and taking care of us and the food was levels above any Indian restaurant I’ve visited in the last 20 years - last time we had food this good was at teknaf 20 odd years ago (also owned by zaak) Wonderful as always and we will be back again soon

I had a palak paneer which was for me a little bit dry (however that could be my personal taste) & tarka dhal which was tasty. The rice pilaf could have been more soft - sort of had a raw ish rice taste - maybe could have cooked a bit more. My roti was nice fresh smelling with good texture . My friend had the potato & cauliflower curry with roti both were lovely. Poppadums were fresh and nice. All food was hot. Loved the fresh chopped onion that came with our poppadums'. Restaurant was busy. Great service. Cheerful and attentive waiters. Beautiful wall murals Looking forward to my next visit

Visited this place twice now and honestly I don’t understand what the fuss is about :/ both times the curry dish was bland. Service is good but definitely better curry houses around the area.

Tasty food in a friendly atmosphere. Nicely decorated and the team were really friendly and accommodating. We ate there before the Commonwealth Games and were very satisfied.

Nice interior and good service. Starters and sides very good and tasty but mains all tasted the same. The base gravy used lacked flavour so the dishes had quite a bland taste. A shame as everything else was good.

Eaten a couple of times inside and food was lovely. Ordered takeaway and completely different. Lamb chops were rubbery and bland. Balti was just acceptable and the Paspuran Khyberi Kari (highly recommended as a textured and balanced curry full of rich flavour) was bland and full of tomatoes. Naans were the smallest I’ve seen. Spent over £40 and it will be the last time I use the place. I don’t normally leave negative reviews but seriously overpriced for the quality. Menu is in bin. Asdas own microwave curry’s are a lot better.

I and my Family Regularly eat here and the food is always very good and the service always excellent. I know alot of people locally and from outside the area who agree with me when I have dicussed it with them.

We have just had the most amazing Indian take away from Zaalscha. The service has been amazing,even phoning to ask if the curry we'd chosen was ok as it was the hottest on the menu and we hadn't realised. Top food, top service.

Standard pourade sauce which was flavourless four pieces of dry chicken 8 pots of dips we didnt order but got charged for poperdoms where like rubber this is definitely the worst takeaway iv ever had avoid this takeaway there are better ones close by we only tryed this one to see what the food was like and we are so disappointed

We really enjoyed our meal at Zaalsha last Monday. We took advantage of the 'eat out to help out' offer and also brought our own alcohol. We were a group of seven and found the food and service to be very good. We ordered two shared platters as a starter which was very tasty. My mum ordered salmon and fruit and nut rice as her main. My husband had a chicken jalfresi, my eldest son ordered a chicken bhuna and I had a chicken pasanda. The pasanda was milder than I remembered so I wouldn't order that again but everyone else enjoyed their meal. I've never had a bad meal at this restaurant and would definitely recommend it to others.

Good food and atmosphere it was my 1st visit last week... it won't be my last 🙂

First girls night out since March. So we were really looking forward to a long overdue, face to face catch up, and some good food. This was my first time at Zaalsha and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is well presented with a hand sanitiser ready on entering. The tables and room were set up, taking into accounting social distancing requirements. The staff were all very considerate, polite and friendly. I was very impressed with the menu, which was a good selection of 'old' favourites, with plenty of dishes I'd not had before and all sounded delicious. Our food was nicely presented and tasted great. It was so nice to be able to go out, enjoy a great meal, and then sit with our drinks chatting away, not feeling pressured to hurry out the door. I definately recommend visiting Zaalsha and I will be going back.

I would like to reassure all that the food is of the same exeptional standard as when served in the restaurant, and the delivery is also first class. To make it easier you can also pay by card when ordering, which is good in these circumstances. I have placed two orders since the lockdown and both have been delivered at the time stated by a very friendly driver who kept to the social distancing rules.

After too many bad experiences in Indian restaurants this visit renewed my faith. Friendly, helpful staff; good, efficient service without long delays even for a fairly large number (8); and the first time I have had a lamb curry without grisly meat, and tender too! Delicious meal. Staff are willing to modify recipes according to taste and the presentation of food food on hot plates on the table is efficient and helpful. No loud or annoying music and nog overcrowded (early Sunday evening) but they do advise booking apparently.

Went here for a birthday meal on a recommendation and we were not disappointed. Chicken Chaat starter was amazing, and others had prawn puree and samosas which were all extremely good. 3 of chose different Naga currys and a Biryani. I have had naga many times before, but this was by far the best. I will definitely be coming back again, even though we live in Essex!
