My favourite sushi place in the UK. I go here every time I visit Portsmouth. Could not recommend more.

We were in a rush and ordered takeaway but the food was really nice!

Impromptu visit for lunch, absolutely blown away by my delicious mini don dish. Highly impressed oggling fabulous sushi chosen by my dining neighbour who was served mini stacks of moreish seafood topped by unique sauces and dressing. Can't wait to return for a blowout meal sometime as flavours truly authentic. Thank you to the Chef who deserves every success.

This is the place to go if you are looking for Japanese Culinary art ! Been there a few times now & every time they surprised us with brilliant food presentation on top of their mouth watering japanese food !

This authentic Japanese restaurant is a unique place to go and have food. The food was excellent and even though they messed up my ramen order, the staff was quick to fix it, with no hesitation. The way the food is served is like no other and the atmosphere is beautiful. The layout of the restaurant makes you feel like you are in Japan and the food is the best Japanese food I ever had - full of unique flavours. The food takes a little long to make but I was completely fine with that because you can easily tell that the chefs care about the food they make and want to deliver their best food. They also let you enjoy your starter before delivering your main which helps not clustering up the table. There was only a small downside during the process of booking a table as I did it in the restaurant and the lady I have spoken to seemed a little confused about me asking her to book my table and she ended up the conversation by saying "make sure you show up" or somsthing similar. However, she was really nice with us while we were dining there and the rest of the staff was great as well. There was one young Japanese lady I want to particularly thank to as she was really great and quick to respond when my ramen order got messed up. Overall, I can easily say I had a unique and incredible dining experience.

I haven’t left a review before but did feel very disappointed after the ramen. I read someone else’s comment about the ramen but saw the other brilliant reviews so thought I would give it a go. Didn’t get to try the sushi but and reckon they might be brilliant but the ramen just wasn’t it. The service was… odd to begin with. There’s no menu online or displayed outside so I went in and asked for a menu. The staff member behind the sushi bar probably could see me but just didn’t acknowledge my existence and I just stood there awkwardly for a while. The lady then came out to serve but we had a little bit of tug of war about seeing the menu (she gestured me to sit down and will show me it but I just wanted to see what do they serve before sitting down - I mean she was very polite but I suppose the company’s policy was a little odd?) which she then did kindly. Another staff member then asked what I’d like for drinks but then I realised I’ve never got a drinks menu. Anyways, fast forward to the food… I was expecting it to come out almost piping hot given it’s got a broth that’s supposed to be simmering this whole time. It was warm at most, the noodles, broth and beef slices were just big disappointments. The broth taste of nothing (this is spicy beef ramen), the seaweed sheet was chewy (meant to be crisp), broth was a little bit spicy which is what I asked for but has no umami or any taste of what a broth should be, the noodles… I suspect they’re just cheap packet ones cause there’s no taste. The beef slices were the biggest disappointment of them all, I’m almost certain they’re just use the frozen beef slices you get from Chinese supermarkets and they didn’t even season it. I did like how the bamboo shoot and egg was marinated but overall I do not recommend the ramen and was greatly disappointed. This ramen has got a London price tag but I make better ramen at home than this sadly.

A nice and cozy Japanese place. Counter seats are great reminiscence of Izakaya. Ordered one serving of uramaki (inside out) rolls and one pork katsu donburi (rice bowl). The uramaki was surprisingly good: crab meat and aburi (scorched) tuna on top, overall it goes very well with the dip. The katsu don was okay; perhaps my only complaint was the rice was not freshly made — some part of it was too dry and was not so much a pleasant texture. Overall, good experience & will definitely recommend the sushi rolls.

These guys are amazing. They make wonderful food, it looks amazing and tastes even better. The staff are the best.

lovely atmosphere, a bit pricey but you can tell they used quality ingredients, wasnt a big fan of the ramen but the chicken karage was awesome and a generous portion of salmon sashimi

Experience was great food was great and the people were great at the place. It was just a lovely atmosphere.

The cocktails are amazing, especially all of the Sake cocktails that they have. Very interesting and unique drinks. The food was amazing, fairly priced and well presented. I loved the vegetarian options that they had. The service was also lovely because the staff were polite.

Today I had the worst ramen I ever had - We have ordered roasted pork & spicy beef ramens. The noodles was overcooked & it has unbalanced mixing of flavours. The place is cozy and very clean especially the toilet. Service was great as staff were very attentive to customers. Total price was not worth it for the food that we had.

I’ve dined at this authentic Japanese restaurant multiple times, and each visit has been a memorable experience. Every dish is crafted with care and precision, and the flavors are consistently exceptional. The salmon sashimi is particularly delicious, with fresh, high-quality ingredients that stand out. The Tsukemono-salmon sashimi , seasoned with Beetroot, is another must-try—it’s a unique and flavorful choice that I highly recommend. The seasonal menu changes add a nice variety. During my recent visit, I tried the sashimi, which was incredibly fresh and cut into perfect, bite-sized portions—just right for savoring. The mix seafood tempura also a must try option. The staff here are wonderful, always friendly and patient. Despite a few clumsy moments when I dropped my chopsticks, they were quick to help and made me feel welcome and comfortable. Overall, my dining experiences here have been fantastic. Both the food quality and service are outstanding. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in Portsmouth, whether you’re a local or just visiting—it’s definitely worth a stop! I will come back again !!!

My partner and I came here as a little treat after giving notice of our marriage, and we booked in hope of it being a special lunch for us both- we were not disappointed, this place is incredible! We have both spent a lot of time in Japan and the food and atmosphere is just like we experienced there. The staff were so friendly and the food was just unreal. We will be back to try the Shabu Shabu!!! You should absolutely give this place a try!

It was my first time at a Japanese restraunt and I was blown away. The food was delicious and superbly presented, and the staff were efficient and very kind and patient with us as we navigated the menu. It would be folly to overlook this restraunt.

I came in for the first time the staff were very friendly and helpful when helping me choose things off the menu . I ordered the spicy miso tofu seaweed soup recommended by a staff member and salmon avocado cheese sushi . The food was amazing and soo tasty . I highly recommend this place I will Be returning again soon for sure!

I absolutely love this place. The food is spectacular. Everything is beautifully crafted and delicious.

We walked in at 10.15 last night just as they were about to close however they let us order take away and although it’s was a little pricey I thought we’d give it a go. And I’m glad we did! Next leval sushi!!! The pork curry rice was lush. IGNORE THE KARINS LEAVING 1 STAR REVIEWS. This place is worth the dining experience and I will be back for more.

We found this place through the JustEat app but decided to go ourselves... if you can, please don't order through JustEat! Yukchinhon is both a physical experience as well as food experience. Wanted to go to the east without spending thousands on a plane ticket? Now you can, right here in Portsmouth. The dishes are meticulously crafted in an oriental style, and sometimes you can see them work on the food in front of you. Your table is a desk you can heat and keep your food warm if you want, which is super cool, but bear this in mind if you bring children with you. As for the food itself, it's very delicious! I plan to go again next year, so maybe check it out yourself. It's a very one of a kind experience.

Carefully and skilfully prepared authentic Japanese food. Love every dish I have ordered, especially their maki with salmon is very delicious. The marinated raw prawn is a must to order for. It is marinated with kimchi. I had travel to this restaurant couple times, I found out their menu had changed for season. I try some sashimi. It is fresh and delicious, size of each slice of sashimi is a bite size. It literally just right for me. Staff in there is so nice and patient even through I drop my chopsticks for many times, they always get prepared to me. Overall, I have a nice dining experience in there. And the quality of food and services are above standard. Really appreciate people in Portsmouth or tourist take action to visit this Japanese restaurant when you see this comment.

The only issue I can fault with this place is that if you try sushi here, you won't want sushi anywhere else. The staff were very friendly, welcoming & polite. They also were helpful with allergies & provided good gluten free options. The place was spotlessly clean & nicely decorated. Our food arrived fast & was well presented. Along with this, both my partner & I said that this was 'the best sushi we had ever eaten'; it was skillfully prepared, creative & delicious. The sort of food that makes you smile when tasted & gives impressively exciting flavors. Absolutely worth every penny and a true hidden gem.

Upon arrival, we were surprised to notice that there was no chef in the kitchen. Instead, the bartender was preparing our food, which was quite concerning for a restaurant that markets itself as a quality Japanese dining spot. The service was incredibly slow and disorganized. Our main courses were delivered one by one over the span of more than an hour, making it impossible for us to enjoy our meal together. By the time the last person received their food, the first person was already finished. This staggered service completely ruined what should have been a pleasant group lunch. To add to the frustration, I ordered a can of Coke with ice. The bartender filled half a glass with ice, poured the Coke into it, and then kept the rest of the can, claiming that the glass held the full volume of the can. This felt both misleading and unprofessional, leaving me unsatisfied with the beverage service. Overall, Yukchinhon fell far short of our expectations. The lack of a dedicated chef, the slow service, and the questionable handling of even simple drink orders suggest serious management issues. I would not recommend this restaurant based on our experience. There are plenty of other options in Portsmouth where you can get better service and a proper dining experience.

What an amazing experience. We had the seasonal starter set as recommended by the amazing staff and I struggle to pick what item we loved most. The pumpkin cake was replaced some super fresh salmon, which was an unexpected delight. The main (pork ramen) was just as good, so much flavour, and the portion was just the right size. Drinks were great too, sake bellini pictured and the melting snow were veeeery drinkable. They were also very aware of dietary requirements and allergies too. Will definitely be returning the next time we are in town!

As I sit can contemplate life finer things I am treated to a journey of delight. I’ve never been to Portsmouth but my son found a restaurant called Yukchinhon innovation Japanese Cuisine. They were able to fit us in, my wife, daughter, son & I. We walked to this restaurant from where we were staying not mowing what to expect at all but I have been brought to almost tears of this beautiful tranquil place which is a heavenly place. The journey of food we were guided through by the wonderful staff which was truly hand crafted art in front of us blow us away. We can’t leave this place, it’s just out of this world. Now I’ve eaten in one or two Michelin. Star restaurants in my time and the quality, freshness and art which was laid in front of us was truly beyond any word I can write. If you wish a gourmet journey of excellence then I hand on heart tell you to head to this restaurant. Thank you Yukchinhon for an experience we will never forget. Would we be back, what do you truly think!!!! Give your delft time here and enjoy the experience of a life time.

Highly recommended! This lovely little restaurant was the biggest surprise we had during our stay in Portsmouth. We walked in without a reservation, expecting some simple sushi and instead had the most delicious and beautifully presented food we’ve had the whole trip. Every dish was an original take on classic flavour combinations and a feast for both the eyes and tastebuds. Add the lovely staff, nice atmosphere and fair prices and you’ll understand we’ll definitely eat here again on a future trip!

Very cozy restaurant, of course a little small place but it is not a big problem. The food is delicious, as it tastes like it looks. We were passing through so if I am in this city I will definitely go to this restaurant.

I had a wonderful meal here with my boyfriend, we had the chicken coconut hotpot which was absolutely delicious, the food is so fresh, I could not fault it at all. The staff are welcoming and friendly. The decor is cosy and intimate. It is so rare to have this experience dining out these days. We will absolutely be back and are looking forward to trying more delicious food!

Definitely worth it, really enjoyed the set menu

Visited on a Friday evening. We tried a selection of the starters and some sushi. Completely worth the money. Food was incredible, staff were amazing. And the drinks selection was enjoyable in itself! The restaurant itself is small and intimate making for a great dining experience. We will be visiting again and again for sure!

It is not a Japanese food at all . For those who are very few to eat the Japanese food, you may find it is acceptable particularly it is food setting which looks nice in photos. But for a Japanese or Japanese food fans , I will not recommend. And price is far too expensive compared to its quality. Additionally, we wait for a long time for the food. But service is good.

Oysters are bitter, think they are not fresh. Pork ramen is just there. Egg and pork is cold. Won’t come again.

A chance to try Japanese food a bit away from the run of the mill. Michelin quality food, service and presentation (though to be fait the furniture may not pass muster) but the prices are less than most neighbourhood restaurants. People of Portsmouth are lucky to have this little gem.

I came here as a surprise for my birthday and was not disappointed. The dining experience was amazing, and the restaurant itself is very attractive. The staff are extremely kind, funny, and will go out of their way to please you. The food is expertly made, and the cocktails are perfect. Once again, the staff here are the best of the best, Thank you!

Food was ok, over priced, and the portions are small. Took an hour for my food to come, and my partners food arrived 15 minutes after that. When we entered we were the only customers, 3 other tables came and went before we got our food, despite ours being cold, and theirs being hot (we could see everything being prepared in front of us). We weren’t given cutlery and the staff were inattentive the whole time we were in there (two hours). We won’t be coming back; if you want to get sushi in Posrtmouth go to Sakura instead.

Absolutely beautiful, with very kind people who work there. Perfect if you want to try Japanese food with your own company. Very comfortable and the drinks were also delicious.

This is our new favourite Japanese Sushi restaurant in the area. We sat at the counter where we could watch the incredible chefs prepare the fresh sushi. The sushi was the best that we have ever had in the UK. The attention to detail and presentation of each dish was spectacular. Incredible food with fantastic service. We went all out with the Wagyu beef and the Lobster and Mango Sushi which was out of the world. We did not try any of the hot dishes but from what we saw around the restaurant they looked amazing. Make sure that you book a table in advance, not surprisingly it was full when we were there.

What a find! Just popped in for lunch as I was in the area and chose a set menu. Absolutely delicious, and beautifully presented. Authentic Japanese dining atmosphere.

I remember having a takeaway from Yukchinhon a while back. And it was so good and today me and my partner decided to book a table to the restaurant. The staff were very nice and helpful. One of the most important thing at the start of our meal, the chef asked if we had any allergies. Anyhow we opted for the set menu. Starter and main. Wow! Wow! I've never seen anything like it. The presentation was pristine and the food was so good. I'm inclined to try Sushami the next time we visit. As our food was so fresh. And to finish off our meal we had a Dessert. I honestly couldn't say how excited I was to eat it. It was so nicely presented I didn't want to mess it up. But anyhow I dived in. My brain couldn't get enough and my stomach was just enjoying every moment. And washed down with non-alcoholic Sake Beer. Thank you Yukchinhon for an amazing experience. Yes it's £££ but worth every penny. The restaurant is easy to get to using the buses.

Went for a brilliant birthday meal last night with my wife. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful and compact that looks and feels very authentic. Its close to a pay and display car park which is 2.60 for two hours. On street parking is a bit hit and miss. The service was very pleasant throughout and the staff attentive without being intrusive. The menu is large and I went for one of the set meals while my wife picked a couple of different sushi roll options. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. It became very apparent we'd over ordered and had to take some back home with us - while I barely made a dent in my main course having dived in to help my wife out with hers. Overall its highly recommended and I recommend to any lover of Japanese food. Thank you very much!

Extraordinary food, the menu may be a little challenging to the vanilla but after a couple of visits can confirm everything has been delicious and there's an excellent selection of saki to go with. Tuesday was quiet but I can't dock a star when that meant we got the booth and more personal service. Won't be our last visit.

By far the best and most authentic Japanese Restaurant i’ve tried in Portsmouth. Absolutely Delicious!!! Had the Hell Spicy Beef Ramen Level 2 Spicyness and had extra spicy sauce on the side made it a level 4 and had my cheeks blush, nostrils flaring up and forehead sweating 😂😂😂. They go up to level 10 but i would not recommend it to be able to enjoy the natural flavor of the ramen. Had one of if not the best Sushi Roll the “Aquaman Uramaki” which is an explosion of flavor!! Loved it!!

Good food ,good service not many people there

Called in on my own as it was near to where I was staying and I didn’t want a heavy meal. Turned out to be of the best meals I have ever eaten, and I only ordered quite simple dishes (salmon sashimi and spicy beef ramen). Very good price too. I will definitely be back!
