If you’re looking for an authentic Greek dining experience in Portsmouth, El Greco is the perfect choice. I visited with friends, and we had a great time. The menu was big and had many options to choose from. We tried the Greek salad followed by tzatziki and feta cheese with honey which were good and on point. We also tried lamb kleftiko, chicken souvlaki, and mousaka as main dishes. Each dish was rich in flavor and cooked to perfection. The Makedonikos red wine was a great choice for us. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with traditional blue-and-white decor that transports you straight to a Greek Island. The service was incredibly friendly and attentive, making the experience feel even more personal and genuine. El Greco is a true gem in Southsea—a must-visit spot where food, hospitality, and atmosphere create the perfect Greek getaway right here in Portsmouth. Would highly recommend and would come back.

The food was great! The waitresses were really polite and attentive. The overall atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and enjoyable with Greek music playing in the background.

We wandered in hoping to feel and taste the flavors of a vacation many years before (1991) to Rhodes and the Cycladic Islands and we weren't disappointed. Fabulous service, calming Greek atmosphere, delicious food, great Greek wine and a reasonable price made this a meal never to forget. If you haven't been here yet, GO! It's a vacation without a passport or airport.

It is so overpriced and not authentic at all. It's nothing like Greece. I am lucky enough to have visited 13 islands so have been all around the greek foods. I can't get my head around this restaurant, service was bad, food was very overpriced and plain and simple. Almost batch made which is fine but not for the pricing.. The greek fast food place on Clarence pier is far better and 70% cheaper.

What a find this was, we were staying in hotel opposite and happened to see this restaurant, the atmosphere and ambience was really inviting, was greeted when walked in really impressed. This is a place for greek food, when on our journey to the Iow we shall certainly be calling in.

I dined recently at El Greco with my family, and had the time of our lives! We had gone to Kerkyra on holidays during the previous summer, my kids could not stop asking for Greek food, and so, I found this little gem at Portsmouth. Staff was friendly, and made sure we were all satisfied with their service, food was exceptional, and the place...graphic to say the least. Definitely going back soon!!!

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, making it an ideal spot for a meal with family and friends. As for the service I have to say that it was exceptional! The staff were attentive and friendly. We had heard great things about El Greco so we booked a table to celebrate the fact that it was a year before our wedding day! We took a while to choose our meal as the menu sounded so tempting. We went for a selection of dips and pitta as we didn’t want to feel too full before our mains arrived. The dips were really tasty and we asked to keep the remainder for our mains. I ordered Moussaka and my fiancé ordered the mixed souvlaki. When the plates arrived we just looked at each other is surprise. Usually I’m one of those people who stop everyone from eating before I take a food photo….this time it was far from my mind! My moussaka looked (and tasted) very bland, to add some taste to it, I mixed the dressing from my ‘salad’ with it. The salad was merely a pile of bagged lettuce which I had to remove the hard stems from….not a Greek salad to me! My fiancé was shocked to see that his mixed souvlaki was served on a plate of chunky frozen chips but we celebrated that he found 3halves of cherry tomatoes underneath his leaves. The older members of staff didn’t seem very engaging with the customers and didn’t seem happy to be there which was sad to see as it was busy and the venue looks beautiful. The majority of the diners looked happy so maybe we ordered the wrong dishes but sadly we won’t be returning and will continue to dine at Steki, and Agora in future to get our Mediterranean food fix!

I'm surprised and annoyed at myself like how come I've not visited THIS place Before! As a lover of Greek cuisine definitely I'm revisiting them! They helped to celebrate a surprise birthday party as well, with a cake, candle and HBD music 🥰 thank you so much!

A very traditional family run Greek restaurant, the food was amazing, the cocktails were something else, wonderful service they couldn't do enough to make sure you were happy and enjoying your food, great atmosphere the restaurant was decorated in the traditional blue and white with beautiful Greek music playing, we had a lovely evening and shall definitely be visiting there again soon

Food is worth the price. A little bit crowded and noisy if you don’t like music and chit chat of people as it was pretty full house.

This was a disappointing experience, the reviews here were suggesting it is meant to be really nice and it could be that we were unlucky, but the food was far from great. The moussaka - I could taste the cheap bechamel sauce, it was soggy and not nice in my opinion. The souvlaki was dry and bland. It wasn’t cheap either for what you get, I am always giving places the benefit of a doubt, but here everything was far from good.

Very expensive. The food tasted very salty, herbs and the food didn't taste great. Not worth 40 quid for 2 kebab wraps. Sorry but won't order from here again

Popular, busy, buzzy restaurant. These are few and far between in Portsmouth so I'm prepared to overlook any shortcomings in food, service and atmosphere at this place because they are very minor. I'd happily go back again!

We had a very pleasant evening at El Greco! The food was amazing and the waitresses, Fabiona & Eleana, were fantastic. They gave great food suggestions and were dynamic and proactive throughout. We will certainly be coming back soon! 100% recommended

Not bad, but not great. Had a table for 2, arrived just after opening, and were the only 2 customers. From this point of view, we had excellent personal dining, no complaints. Starters were excellent, I had calamari, and my wife had hallomi chips. Both plates were fresh, and portions were generous. The mains were a bit hit and miss. We had moussaka and chicken gyros. Both dishes looked and tasted a bit warmed up from the day before. I'm not saying they were, but they didn't seem as fresh as the starters. The moussaka came with 2 chips! On the whole not bad. I didn't feel ripped off, but unlikely to rush back.

What an incredible dining experience! The lamb kleftiko was out of this world – so tender and flavorful, it practically melted in my mouth. The service was top-notch, with friendly and efficient staff who made us feel truly welcome. From the warm greeting to the heartfelt thanks at the end, every moment was a delight. Can't wait to return!

I'm not sure what happened the night we went but it was not good atall. The bread we ordered was rock hard having worked in the catering industry I could tell it had been heated up in a microwave. The starters were not great and my partners main was just OK my chicken gyros was disgusting . No one checked if we where OK so we just left most of it even when collecting my plate no mention of why I'd left it. To be honest the atmosphere was not good and we didn't feel welcome so we just paid and left never to return. We have eaten at a few other Greek restraunts and this didn't come anywhere near on value, quality or atmosphere. Wish we had saved ourselves the money and gone next door but lesson learnt.

It didn't feel like we were his customers, we felt as close as friends. ✅️ The restaurant is warm and cosy, with traditional and tasteful Greek decor (not stereotypical) throughout. 🇬🇷 ✅️ Food...just look at those portions! Absolutely scrumptious food and such generous portions! Gyros, souvlakia, Tzatziki, Greek salads, pittas, sharing platters and the loukoumades to finish 😍❤️. The meat just fell apart and was beautifully seasoned - no one from our party touched the salt! My dad admitted this was the best Greek food he'd tried in the UK and he's Greek. A really good Greek restaurant, quaint, with a limited number of covers, but don't be put off as the service is friendly, professional and attentive. The menu was excellent and our food was delicious. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

We’ve been on Wednesday evening, so it wasn’t busy at all. Firstly, amazing food (decent, freshly cooked portions with tasty meat), very nice service and superb atmosphere. We’ve chosen souvlaki, gyros eggplant salad, cider and house white wine. I will come back again, Very pleasant place.

The food was amazing in this place, we had a large table of 9 on a busy Saturday night. The waiter got one of the dishes wrong initially but swiftly corrected this.

We visit Greece twice a year so we thought we'd give El Greco a go. Absolutely love it, the food, service and atmosphere is spot on. My husband loves a moussaka and El Greco's is the best he's had. Chicken Souvlaki is to die for. Really can't fault the place.

We went here just before Christmas with family and as we had lived in Greece for a few years wanted to try it. The food was amazing and had all the taste of real Greece, not surprising as it is run and owned by Greeks. The staff were all very polite and we were served very well. The restaurant deserves all the excellent ratings it gets. We all thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would recommend the restaurant .

I live in Toronto and have eaten at many Greek restaurants there, but il greco was impressive to say the least. The flavours were perfectly put together (chicken souvlaki, lamb, Greek salad even the pita bread was delicious) recommended wine to have there is Makedonakis sooooo delicious. Service was excellent no complaints at all. Atmosphere was perfect too. This experience was so good I went back the next day and still wasn’t disappointed. There is something to be said about family owned and operated restaurants.

Fantastic restaurant and thoroughly recommend a visit. You feel like you are actually in Greece enjoying the sunshine and the great food. All the team are really friendly and you certainly get that ‘family restaurant’ atmosphere that you’ll remember from sun soaked relaxing holidays in the Greek islands. The food is superb and our party of five had different mains which we all thoroughly enjoyed. We couldn’t decide on started so Kristo made some recommendations and they were varied and also enjoyed by all. Fab was a great waitress and was very attentive. Can’t wait to go back again very soon. You won’t regret going and enjoying some real Greek sunshine at this family run restaurant.

Been wanting to try this for a while. Think I may have gone in with very high expectations due to hearing all the hype about El Greco. The food was very tasty yes, but it wasn't one of those "omg I need to visit again" tastes. The service was very slow, but that was because only 1 person was serving tables when I went. Also abit more pricey than the usual. Would I visit again if I'm craving Greek food? I don't think I would. But it was a nice experience.

An authentic family run Greek restaurant , a lovely cosy atmosphere , attentive staff and very good food. Definitely somewhere we will be returning too and bringing friends and family along. Highly recommended

An authentic and well balanced moussaka (the meat, potato, aubergine and creamy and airy bechamel in complimentary proportions): fifteen quid! Bargain. One of the best I've had in the UK, or anywhere for that matter. A large glass of dry greek red, £9. Walnut sponge and ice-cream, £7. And a greek coffee made from the silt at the bottom of a mountain pond. Just the way it should be. All book ended by a host as home made and authentic as his dishes.

A GENUINE TOP CLASS FAMILY RUN GREEK RESTAURANT A wonderful restaurant in every respect. We arrived at 7pm on a Friday and the restaurant was already busy but, within an hour, it was full to overflowing. The food, service, staff and atmosphere were impeccable. I suggest you book a table. We had a wonderful evening.

Staying in the nearby Holiday Inn we were looking for a restaurant nearby. Not only was El Greco conveniently located for us, it turned out to be an absolute gem! Delicious food, friendly staff, spotlessly clean inside and out, wonderful ambience. Highly recommended!

Really rude, unhelpful, unprofessional staff. Asked for help with dishes and was told 'they are all good' ordered and didn't like my dish at all. Had I of had a description I wouldn't have ordered that dish. Waste of £37

Superb gem of a restaurant found whilst walking towards Portsmouth town centre one evening! In fact we were seated at a restaurant in the Quays when suddenly on our last day walked out and headed for El Greco! We were not disappointed, great atmosphere, beautiful food and wonderful service, which made for such a lovely ending to our short visit to Portsmouth!!!? We will all three of us be Back!!!!!
