The fact that the miso and tea took so long felt very intentional, why let people fill up on that first. Those items should be quick. Had 7 dishes and waited a while before receiving either, it's busy ish, not that busy that they can't bring out pre made soup and tea In comparison with out the conversion it's quite over priced compared to Canada like massively so

Took 40 minutes for 2 children's meals to arrive, not even an apology for the slow service. We had to ask for the children's drinks as well. Interestingly, the kitchen had time to serve other customers' dishes who arrived later than us. Also, the kitchen staff had enough time to use their personal phone in the food area and then hide their phone to go back to preparing food. The cleanliness of the customers' toilets was questionable at best. With the ladies missing light bulbs and the broken baby changing table. When we mentioned the toliets we were informed that the duty manager had not even been to check all day. The door to the staff area was wide open for anyone to gain access too.

rice was almost translucent and mushy, it looked like it had been left out for quite a while on the conveyor belt. small pieces of food were scattered on the belt itself too, the bowls that the sushi came in had condensation gathering at the top and looked to be poorly cleaned. i ordered a prawn curry rice bowl and instead of the server giving it to me the chef himself reached over the conveyor belt to give it and his bare hands were touching the food too. the chefs did not wash their hands after preparing raw fish before moving onto veggie meals, he even stopped to use his phone which most likely was not sanitised and continued to prepare food without washing his hands. the sushi itself was of poor quality, the salmon was slimey and lukewarm. usually salmon used for sushi must be kept cold to prevent the growth of bacteria, this salmon was not. the chefs did not wear any gloves at all either. this place has no regards towards hygiene whatsoever. the curry wasn't even spicy, it left a horrid aftertaste in my mouth that still lingers even as im typing this review.

we eat here relatively often however we recently did the sushi school evening for my boyfriends birthday, where you are taught to make a range of sushi. this was a really good experience, being taught about the history of sushi and making 4 different types for a relatively reasonable price (considering you're also being fed and provided with a drink). would totally recommend booking onto this!

Food is nice. Understaffed though. The belt was dirty. Don’t think it had been properly cleaned in a while. . The whole place needs a good scrub. It’s a bit like going to student house where they’ve made an effort with the food but the house hasn’t had a proper clean for a while. The toilets were not clean. The tiles and mirrors all smeared. The staff room door was open…it was grim. Left feeling a bit like I wanted a shower. Shame because the food is ok.

Friendly, central slightly back street cafe restaurant with 3 dishes for £9.95 on a Monday along with the kimchi, wasabi and soy sauce on the table. I enjoyed the kaiso seaweed and the veggie inari taco was interesting if slightly difficult to eat and the firecracker veggie rice was a generous portion, piping hot and spicy though tasted quite salty. Washed down with a ginger & turmeric kombucha. Friendly staff with made to order dishes

There wasn’t a lot available on the conveyor belt and the place seemed quite understaffed. We were sat in front of the kitchen and not a lot was being made to put onto the conveyor belt. Also just a note about the menu’s for YO! UK wide, it seems a bit silly to have Irn Bru on the menu then in small print to say “Scotland only”. The food adds up quick too - I’m still wondering why I chose the prawn crackers as there were maybe about 10 and it cost £3.50 😭 Probably wouldn’t come back - better off going to a more authentic sushi restaurant.

Visited here twice in the past 2 weeks and vastly different experiences each time. The first time, we were well catered for, I am Coeliac and they understood allergens and gave good advice, I spoke to one of the chefs and was able to have a salmon poke bowl, it was a lovely experience, very much enjoyed it. Then I brought my partner back literally 15 days later, which Friday, the service was severely lacking, nobody seemed to want to be there, which is fine if you feel that way but don't voice it in earshot of your customers, all we heard was the chefs talking about how they couldn't wait to leave, made it feel like they wanted everyone to hurry up. I was advised that although the allergens specified on the QR code said the poke bowl was safe, this was no longer the case, I was no limited to about 5 items. Ordered 2 dishes, it them took 40 minutes to receive these, there was only 4 tables with occupants during this time, my partner received his order within 15-20 minutes, the table that was seated about the same time my partner received his dish also received their order 10 minutes later. The waiter did say he had checked up on where my order was and said it should be with me soon but think this was more because we were grumbling at this point. Felt really disappointed and ended up going elsewhere afterwards. I would say if you have any allergens do not visit Yo Sushi, and would also avoid visiting in general anytime from 7pm onwards.

Bottomless belt was good. We ate plenty, but the belt was pretty empty for at least half an hour and left some of our party rushing to eat some things they wanted in the last 10 minutes when some more finally came out. Also had to request puddings as they weren't on the belt by the time we wanted some. Overall was worth while, but I thought the belt could have been better stocked throughout the whole 90 minutes

Came here with the family for an early Saturday evening dinner. Everyone was so nice and kind and patient and welcoming and friendly. The kids had lots of questions about the things on the belt, and the guys cooking overheard us talking and helped us figure out what was what. Service was prompt and there was a good variety of things on the belt, so we didn't end up ordering much off the menu apart from miso soup, drinks, and the frozen desserts. Lots of fun and we really enjoyed the evening.

Staff were absolutely lovely. We were taking ours away, and when we got it, staff were really nice, lots of smiles, good to see. When we left, we were halfway down the road when a staff member caught up to us and told us we'd forgotten our drinks, but we hadn't actually ordered those drinks. She was very nice about it and very kind to run out to us. Definitely will come back 😁

Update: Tried again to see if it has gotten better and it’s even worse. Been eating here fairly regularly for the past 4 years. Quality has gone massively downhill after covid. Hardly any filling in the maki rolls, rolls are poorly made and half the size. I keep trying to see if the quality improves again but each time I go it's a major, major disappointment. Really hope things change.

I came here as I visit every Yo! Sushi wherever I go. The waiter was very friendly, and was very informative and helpful in explaining how things work. Food was nice, and the chef who dealt with my bill was very nice and friendly too. If I am ever in York again, I shall be seeing Yo! again (sorry I couldn’t resist the pun)

I visit here two or three times a year. It gets a little bit worse each time. Food quality and taste has taken a nosedive but the prices have skyrocketed. The venue is dirty, dated, and devoid of any soul. They appear to be running on skeleton staffing just two front of house and two in the kitchen. Queuing for a table but only because staff don't have the time to clear, clean, and re-lay tables. The self-ordering system needs reintroducing because you can't get hold of staff to order! Probably won't return again. Far better places to eat in York.

As a frequent visitor or Yo Sushi, was quite surprised at this branch. Dirty tables. Slow service, clearly short staffed and looks like it’s run by students. Food arrived with no cutlery or plates to dispose of edamame shells, had to help ourselves. Waiting staff forgetful had to be reminded for simple things and toilets leave a lot to be desired. Needs a good scrub clean.

Opening hours are until 9pm, yet we got there before 8.30 only to be told the kitchen was closing and we wouldn’t be able to order anything, only option was what was left on the belt. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and allowed us to order but we had to do it very quickly. Other than the most expensive tuna plate, There was no fish left on the belt at all, which is really not what you expect from a sushi place. The dishes are good but not spectacular, and it really is not very good value at all. We paid around £90 for two, did not order a large amount of food and only had one drink (a bottle of beer) so this really is very poor value - the night before we’d had an excellent Indian meal with drinks for 2/3 of that price round the corner. Saving grace was the waitress who was absolutely delightful but I doubt I’ll bother with Yo Sushi any more.

We booked a table on VDay at 6.30pm as my child wanted a conveyor belt sushi experience. the waiter say us down and the first thing my child noticed was where is the sushi? the conveyor only had handful of prawn crackers going round for the past 20 mins. We were told they are trying to put more food on but from past experience as a department manager and looking after a busy Yo sushi concesssion, i can tell they were struggling with just with 2 chefs and 2 waiters. Due to the lack of management and staffing you can see this place becoming a disaster. They didn't have drinks - Coke and Kids juice. even my green tea took 15 mins to arrive and that was after me having to ask for it. We were told to order of the Menu. The food was on the verge of getting food poisoning as both the Salmon maki and salmon and avocado were not fresh. The rice was so warm it melted the mayonnaise and heated the lifeless salmon. After waiting for over 30 mins, the conveyor belt finally had some salmon nigiri. My daughter was so happy she took a plate and appeared happy but once she bit into it, she spat it right out and I can clearly see why. The rice was warm and the rice vinegar was overpowering which made the sushi horrible. The salmon was not defrosted properly and dripping in water. We sat by the door and all we could hear were customers constantly being turned away. The place was dirty and lack of management /staff. I felt sorry for the staff as this was peak hour and having 2 waiters and 2 chefs cannot run a restaurant like this. They apologized so many times to everyone.

SO VERY COLD We asked to move table after we ordered and was told the temperature isn't any better anywhere else. We would of cancelled the order but we were starving and needed to eat. The hot food was probably hot when made but was freezing cold within a short time of getting it. We were upset about the whole experience, we told our server but she did nothing to help apart from apologise. Would like to of spoken with the manager but they were nowhere to be seen. In future if your heating is broken you should be telling people straight away at the door. This was our first stop after travelling a while to get to York, it was a very bad start to our day.

Seats were dirty when we were brought to our table. Only one member of staff present for some reason but it was almost empty so there’s no excuse really. Ordered tap water and it arrived in a murky plastic container with two scratched up dirty plastic cups, the water was warm so we didn’t drink it. Despite being almost empty, it still took 20-30 minutes for some sashimi starter to arrive. Ordered the spicy seafood ramen and it arrived late with half the ingredients missing? It looked nothing like the picture on the menu. The broth was a different colour, too much broth like a giant bowl of soup with nothing inside it, 2 prawns were chopped up and thrown in and sunk to the bottom to look like there’s more. They ran out of eggs so no boiled egg on top (my favourite part) no bokchoy, no seaweed. Barely any noodles either. It was extremely disappointing and if they didn’t have the ingredients or time to make it properly and not randomly improvise then they should have came up and told us or offered a discount? They still had all the intention of charging us full price for that disaster. I shouldn’t have to ask why my ramen is missing all its ingredients it’s highly embarrassing! The soy sauce pot was black stained and dirty, if this was washed regular it wouldn’t be stained that much, I had to pre clean it with a tissue in my bag. The prawn crackers we ordered came on the tiniest plate I’ve ever seen, there were around 4-5 crackers on this plate? Why so little? And the pot of sweet chilli sauce it arrived in was not like the image either, it arrived in a tiny plastic shot glass, too small to actually dip the cracker in. Between me and my partner we had two small crackers each! Waste of money. Toilet seat was broken and hanging off its hinges, toilet dirty. Untrained staff dealt with the situation badly and had the nerve to appear angry and stressed when I said no to the tipping request whilst I was paying? Very upset with this restaurant and I will not be returning again. I advise you to go somewhere more professional if you want good food with your partner for the evening, I recommend Ipfu sushi in York, always a nice experience there :)

Service was incredibly slow, the staff walked around like they had no clue how to waiter a restaurant. Had to ask 3 times to get the drinks we ordered/miso, and waited about 25 minutes before we were even given our drinks, or told that the one I ordered was not available. We booked a table and it took them 10 minutes to even clear one that was available. When we left 1 hour 20 minutes later all of the other people in the restaurant were gone, and not a single table had been cleared or cleaned up (approx 20 tables) even though people had left over 45 minutes prior. At one point a waiter was aimlessly walking about the kitchen, with no hair net or PPE on, and kept disappearing every ten minutes. When we told them that service was incredibly slow they said that they were very busy - they were not - and the restaurant was only half full during the time we were there. The people who sat behind us left because service was so slow that they had not received anything - not even their drinks within 30 minutes of being seated. Food was ok but the head chef should not be telling the wait staff what to do every ten minutes. Restaurant was dirty and tables were sticky.

Disappointing experience. Only a single bowl of very old edamame traveling around the conveyor belt which was the first disappointment having waited 10 mins for someone to simply clean a table for us to sit. Very expensive and rather underwhelming, the yakitori was actually black. Toilets were also black and in dire need of bleach. Felt unloved, a bit shabby and very overpriced. My 8 year old even admitted we should have gone to wagamamas!

We’re visiting from Canada and i was shocked at the price we paid for our meal. We got one small bowl of katsu chicken curry, one small bowl of fire cracker rice, a small bowl of ramen and perhaps 4 plates of sushi, 1 pancake, 2 plates of prawn crackers (the ones you get free at the Chinese takeaway), 1 coke and 3 tap waters. And the food took ages (about 10 minutes for my katsu curry add maybe 20 for the ramen & rice) to reach us and it wasn’t even that busy. The total came to £65!!! (About $110 Canadian). Last week we ate out at a really nice restaurant, for 3 adults, 1 could for £10 more!! I was still hungry when i left. I don’t think I’ll ever eat at Yo sushi again. Definitely not worth it.

Worst Yo Sushi I've been to and I've been to a few. Walked through the door, not overly busy, tables directly infront full of dishes and rubbish on the floor. Waited ages to be seated. Two member of staff talking and laughing with the two behind the counter. A man with glasses, a bit podgy seated us, asked us if we were OK with chopsticks, assuming he'd bring some over, didn't see him again! Put drink order in through app, 15mins later managed to ask someone for our drinks. Had to get my own chopsticks and cutlery. Food wasn't the best either. If I hadn't been there with my son and there because it was his choice I would have walked out. I'd avoid.

Great food as always at Yo. Friendly staff, and a good atmosphere. The only drawback was quite slow service at this branch, despite it being a very quiet weekday evening. Lots of staff stood around chatting about a prior drama that had happened earlier in the day, while people were waiting to be seated for quite some time. Still, overall a good experience and I would definitely return.

We are big Yo Sushi fans so stopped for a brief midweek lunch. Seated straight away by friendly staff and it was not busy throughout our stay. The food was good, probably not quite up to scratch of other branches I would say but enjoyed it nonetheless. The overall cleanliness of the restaurant could be improved. There was food on the belt, tables often left uncleared and a large amount of the back corner used as office/storage. Staplers/office supplies on the belt tables and boxes/drink bottles along the back wall. The baby change/disabled loo could have done with a good scrub too. We would go back given our love for the brand but would like to see the cleanliness/tidiness of this branch improving to that seen in other branches. Staff were lovely though!

Hard to fathom people queuing for this place when there's an authentic, value for money independent sushi spot five minutes walk away. Hellish, I'll let the disgusting photos speak for themselves. (I include the picture of the running tap as that was running when we went in and was still running an hour later when we left... the unnecessary environmental damage from wasting water like this is just offensive).

Very dirty glasses which were changed for clean ones at least. Very overpriced. The place was pretty dirty and unclean. It's also worth noting that the floors are extremely slippery and multiple people and other tables had mentioned that during our meal. It appears that the nonslip tiles had worn down a lot and the staff were aware.

Food was okay but not the best sushi by any stretch. The restaurant itself is a bit dark and tatty. And the service was abysmal, took 30 minutes to get a drink and it wasn't even busy. Am certain there are better options for lunch in York.

Really fantastic restaurant and atmosphere. This Yo! Sushi still operates a bit like pre-covid Yo! where you can pick and choose dishes from the belt or additionally order other dishes from the menu online. The waitress was super friendly and polite. Overall, a fab experience and delicious food!

Think of it as a tapas variant for Japanese food. Ease of use when ordering since you can use the QR code on the table. Plenty of options to suit all pallets and dietary requirements. Just be mindful of the amount of food you will end up ordering and that food bill raking up 😅

Came to visit today after booking a table for my birthday lunch as my kids love the experience we got there to be told the conveyer belt had no food on and infact was turned off which the kids were upset by as that's part of the experience we weren't told this on booking that this style was not going to be served the service was awful staff unhelpful and all stood about in the kitchen no one on the floor no plates were cleared when we revived food it rained when we were there and there was water coming through the ceiling in the kitchen and in the restaurant behind our table no wet floor signs put out was the worst experience for us the only good thing was the food was the usual tasty offering I hate writing bad reviews but it really was not good customer service needs a huge improvement it the kids hadn't been excited to go we would have left

This was our first time we went to Yo!. We don't have much expectation to chain restaurants. I seldom write a review, but I think it is worth to share my visit. The sushi size was 1/3 smaller/thinner than regular. One sushi dish on the menu said it is for two persons, but it actually barely could feed one adult. We also ordered fried rice, it was super super salty. We complained to the manager and they made another one for us, unfortunately, it was still too salty and didn't know why it was spicy this time. However, we were in a hurry and "finished" it and left.

The portion sizes are a little small for the price for some dishes, notably the noodles and the pumpkin koroke, however, the overall food quality was good. Lots of menu opens were unavailable and delivery / food prep time was slow also.

The reason for this low rating is because. My 8 year old daughter was looking forward to going to Yo. After we went to the hospital. We got there at 12.05pm and it was completely locked up. Not open at all.

I’m a massive fan of vegetarian sushi, so as our first pit stop in our trip to York today we had to go to Yo! (which coincidentally was also my first ever time experiencing the restaurant.) Gotta say the staff here are so friendly and informative, told us how to order by scanning the QR code on the table which made ordering and purchasing food an absolute dream. We decided on the veggie sharer platter which was all fresh and beautifully presented aswell as the street food style fries which were fantastic. Always love complimentary ginger/ soy / wasabi (if needed) which was a nice touch. Really lovely and different dining experience. I’ve never had food be delivered to the table on a conveyer belt before. Fantastic fun, we will definitely return here.

Taken to this Sushi bar by my two grandsons who were visiting York. It was great! They ordered and I sampled the various dishes. The staff were very attentive and helpful. Will be visiting this place again.

Nothing special, overrated and overhyped. Would have been reasonably priced but the portions were too small. The staff were a bit unkempt looking, slow, not paying attention. The kitchen staff were missing orders from several tables. Our food came separately as one had been forgotten, and so one was cold. One came round the conveyor belt with the lid half off and dragging. The place looked shabby and dirty. I asked for a glass and was given a plastic cup that looked like it had been kicked around for a few years. Food itself was okay, but not the best I've had by a long way. Probably won't go back, just didn't think much of it.

Food was well prepared, and tasted lovely. You can tell that the chefs enjoy what they do. One little problem to point out, is that primarily, you place your order online via your phone. And the the food gets brought to you. Now, I don’t mind the concept, but the network signal within the place is dire. So, it may take some time before you can place your order. They can do it manually if you ask though.

The Exhibition is a grand old pub dating from 1702 that is situated on a very busy junction opposite Bootham Bar in York. As you enter up the steep couple of steps you are greeted by dark and atmospheric front room which is split by the central bar, it's a mish mash of Victorian and Art Deco with every single bit of wall space occupied with old photos, paintings, brasses and other Breweriana. There are wood panels, glowing yellow lighting and rich dark red ceiling which envelops you into the cosy space. There's so much to take in, especially the Art Deco stained glass panels and large fireplace, you'd almost be distracted from the offerings behind the bar. Which are not the most exciting but there's at least usually a couple of beers from Brew York, Black Sheep and Timothy Taylors, all priced at the usual City centre prices. Where The Exhibition really excels is it's outside space, if you follow your way around to the back of the bar and down a fairy light lit corridor it opens out first into a large conservator which is used for group bookings and then out into what is clearly the biggest and best Beer Garden in York! A beautifully secluded long yard with mature plants and great vintage wall art throughout. The only slight let down is the rather Victorian toilets which could probably do with a bit of an update but otherwise this is a very much overlooked pub that is superb in Summer and would be nice and welcoming inside any time of the year.

Long wait for deserts, Biscof cheesecake was awful, very dry and didn't taste like cheesecake, well past its use by date i think, the adults brownie was not much bigger than the kids size, with a big price difference, total waste of money on deserts!
