We would just like to say a massive thank you to Joe and his team! The pizzas were amazing! We had so many complements on how nice they were. Joe catered for all our guest with special dietary needs such as vegan, vegetarian and gluten free. We would 100% recommend you in the future to all our friends who plan to get married they really did go down a treat. Thanks again Joe.

Came here during Restaurant Week for the coffee and cannoli deal however seeing the authentic pizza oven we decided to get a vegetarian artichoke pizza, too. Big enough to share for a snack. We watched him make it fresh in front of us. It was a freezing, snowy day and the pizza just hit that spot to warm us up. The coffee and cannoli's were also amazing! The pizza was so overloaded of vegetables they were falling off with every bite but I'll tell ya - that's a good thing.

All key ingrediants are sourced direct from Italy, amazingly the chef even made the trip to Alba in person to buy truffles (whete else can say that!). The attention to detail and dedication in obtaining the finest and most authentic ingrediants shows in the end product which has to be the most delicious pizza you'll find in York... and then theres the cannoli, and I forgot to mention the confit garlic - absolutely fantastic, but dont just take my word for it.

This guy knows his stuff! The pizza tastes amazing. I asked if it was sourdough and although it’s not, he told me about how he sources all the best quality ingredients: and it shows. A real gem.

Tried the Pizza whilst showing a friend visiting from Naples (yes that's where Pizza was invented; Margherita..in honour on Queen Margherita of Italy); He was and we were amazed how good this gentleman's Pizzas are...They seemed to have come out of an italian oven in Italy...Genuine ingredients like, capers, tomatoes, buffala mozzarella, caponata and fresh basil...all cooked in an extremely hot wood burning oven...Exceptional...will certainly stop again...Thank you.!!!

My normal lunchtime pizza haunt (Pizzoli) was closed, so I strolled down to Coppergate and had a great pizza at YO31. Freshly made, great dough and loved the tomato sauce, all finished off perfectly and quickly, in the very efficient wood fired oven.

Shocked by the bad reviews here (especially the sad act with a tape measure next to his pizza), perhaps people are too used to undercooked late-night takeaway pizzas and don't appreciate the authentic neapolitan wood fired style. We visited York today and had a pepperoni pizza and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. It had a great char and me and the missus finished it in minutes and even had to go back for seconds. You can tell it's decent when the guys in the adjacent van are ordering their lunch from there.

Can’t understand the bad reviews. Authentic Italian pizza, it’s the proper stuff. 10/10 we will be back very soon without a doubt.

Great find after arriving in York- perfect spot for lunch, lovely menu choice and variety of different pizzas to suit all tastes. Had the mushroom pizza which was really nice, fresh and cooked well. The dough balls are to die for too with a delicious cheese sauce! Quick, no fuss service and fresh, tasty food!

Had a disappointing coffee at one of Coppegate / Fenwick's open air locations. Perhaps should have gone here. Great selection of cakes. Very sweet white chocolate millionaires shortbread hit the spot.

The pizza edge was well done making the whole pizza look done. It most certainly was not, the mushrooms were cold and raw. They were inedible and still had that raw crunch to them! Dough in the centre not cooked and cold. Pizza wet through and soggy. No wonder people's toppings are sliding off on other reviews. Base of pizza black. Chips not cooked enough and soft, to say they ate usually £4.50 is shocking. Thank god I didn't pay full price otherwise I'd be heartbroken. I'm not even a fussy eater and I respect people are struggling in these times but I honestly don't want people to waste their money on poor food either.

False/misleading advertising/promotion. I was told it was a buy-1-get-1 order I was making. I got a single smaller-than-standard size pizza that had clearly fallen to the side of the oven or something because the cheese and toppings were covering it unevenly. the sauce smelled so good but it was sooo inedible because completely cold and soggy. watery, actually. made me almost puke. even my preschooler wasn't happy with it. i am normally don't care about takeout quality but really feel like i have been robbed and scammed this time. complaining to uber eats resulted in a measly £1.79 deposit. what was that even for?? Eventually, Ubereats reimbursed me for £4 more. But ugh what a waste of time/money and effort. I still don't feel okay about this experience.

Tasted OK but really greasy (box starting to melt) and way undersized. It’s not a 10 inch pizza if it’s oval and less than 10 inch along the long axis.

Ordered two pizzas from the stall an Al fungi and white pizza. Both were very tasty could’ve done with them being put in boxes but no big deal. Both came really quickly and they were generous with the toppings, maybe on the small size if looking for a full meal.

Reading other reviews looks like it's more deliveroos fault for all the pizza arriving in a mess. Pizza purchased direct from the van is so so tasty, can really taste the fresh basil in the tomato base. Ordered just a margarita, sat down and waited...

I ordered a vegetarian hot - jalapeños, pepadew peppers, mushrooms and chilli flakes - and paid for additional olives. What arrived was a soggy pizza, dough uncooked in the middle, cheese barely melted, topped with raw sweet corn, chopped peppers, mushrooms and jalapeños. All raw....

Really lovely pizza, I’m not normally one for eating from street vans but this is worth an exception. They also have vegan cheese if you prefer.

Ordered for my first and last time from this place. This is how my pizza arrived £11.50 for this. The slice I was able to salvage also caused me to throw up a short while after eating it.

I’m really sorry I never never complain at all. I’m horrified that I have just paid 12 odd for this pizza. It is mangled beyond belief! It’s also less than 11 inches. Really really bad! I expected so much more!

We ordered a pizza through just eat. Pizza looked like was made by 3 years old. It's very small and burned and it's not worth £9 that we had to pay for it. Come on guys you can do better.

My wife and myself went to our local restaurant on 13th March 2022 after many years of visits and found it as always beyond excellent! We started with a garlic bread pizza style; My wife had the chicken Cacciatoria which was brim full of the most tender chicken in a sauce that was to die for and with beautifully cooked vegetables. She was unable to finish her meal and at the Staff suggestion we had the remaining part of the dish boxed to take home. I ordered the 'normal' Chicken Kiev Calzone Pizza, it was huge!! the biggest I have ever had, and we have travelled a bit; the pastry casing was beautifully made and the filling heaven. I tried my best but could not eat it all...so again brought back home to eat tomorrow. The service was attentive and professional, and we noticed that they made special fuss of the children on the next table. The only sad, nay disastrous news, is that they are closing as the owner is subject to advancing years; they close after Easter this year...great sadness! we will miss it.

We went today for a saturday afternoon lunch - party of 5 (my parents, myself, my teenager and my 8yo) to quietly celebrate my Mum’s birthday. Starting with the positives: the restaurant is clean and well maintained, nicely decorated and not over crowded. There are 2 floors, although only the ground floor level was being used when we ate today. There’s a good selection for children, and the staff were pleasant and engaging with my 8yo, making him feel valued and included. On to the negatives - service was, on the whole, sub par. Whilst polite, we were regularly “abandoned” for want of a better phrase. Had great difficulty attracting the attention of any staff (not just the server who’s section we were in). We ordered olives & pasta crisps, then mains - we waited 45 minutes from the olives being cleared to the first of the main meal doshes being set down. During that wait, we were table checked twice for drinks, only some of which actually arrived. The kids meal & the only pizza ordered finally hit the table - kids bolognaise was lukewarm but the pizza was stone cold. Then we had a wait of 10 minutes before the vegan lasagne was deivered, and another 5 minutes before the remaining 2 carbonara dishes were delivered. I’m all for not being rushed when eating, but taking 45 minutes to begin to deliver the main meals (and 15 minutes to actually get all the mains on the table) is beyond a joke. Pizza - inedible (unless you’re a veteran who’s lived off rations on active service … good job my Dad got the pizza!). Kids meal - lukewarm but enthusiastically consumed. Carbonara - the chef needs to learn the difference between “crispy” pancetta and “burned to a cinder”. Staff were allerted to the issue and appologised - the pizza and non delivered drinks were removed from the bill. They offered to recook the pizza, but at this point we’d waited that long and just wanted to eat as a family so the cold pizza was eaten. The absolute failure of the team was compounded by the fact that our server then came over mid meal (when we’d already discretely expressed our concerns to a member of staff who’d comp’d the pizza immediately) then asked “is everything ok with your meal?” … Disbelief is an understatement - do the staff not communicate with each other? And the same question again when the bill was paid - was everything ok? My Dad simply replied “we don’t want to make a fuss or a big thing about it, we’ve already discussed our concerns with your colleague, but no. Everything was about as far from ok as it could have been.” The staff did what they could - my Mum commented “they know they’ve mucked up” (polite phrasing) to rectify the situation, but suffice to say, next time we’re in York we’ll be eating elsewhere!

Came to Bella Italia for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. The service from Reece was 100% attentive making sure everything was ok with both us and our baby and he was a natural at customer service. The food was lovely and full of flavour having had the lasagne and spaghetti bolognese. Now we've been we will definitely be back.

Disappointing experience. My partner and I visited for Valentine’s Day and chose the set menu. I asked if the burrata & pancetta carbonara could be made without the meat (so just the pasta, sauce, tomatoes, and burrata) and was told yes. It arrived still with the meat and no burrata which was a shame after waiting 30 + minutes for our mains to arrive. Our waiter made a rude comment about us only leaving a couple of pounds as a tip but we literally didn’t have the same server throughout our meal. The bill was also incorrect because the set menu discount wasn’t added. This meant that we were overcharged by almost £15. Luckily, I realised this before leaving, asked for a receipt, and got a refund of this money. The entire experience was just a shame since we usually love coming here.
