Really busy place, fantastic service! I had the Ham, egg and chips and it was perfect and plenty of it. chips were proper homemade chips! My friend had a panini and said it was lovely. The cafe was really busy which is lovely to see, even so the staff were working really hard to keep everyone tended to and accommodated, especially Taz who was very helpful and friendly. The food was fantastic and the products used of very good quality. Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area and will definitely be visiting again soon.

I visited here for afternoon tea with my husband. I have heard many glowing reviews so was keen to go and try the cakes! Afternoon tea consisted of: One pot of tea for 2. 4 slices of bread made into, tuna, ham, cheese and pickle and egg mayo sandwiches. 2 mini sausage rolls 2 mini quiches 2 scones 2 small slices of Victoria sponge 2 small pieces of tiffin Salad garnish (mixed lettuce, half a tomato and a splash of dressing). Although the food was nice (not fantastic) I really don't thinks it was worth £33! The sandwiches were basic, tuna lacked flavour, I'm no Gordon Ramsay but even I know when something requires more seasoning. The quiche was very soft and tasteless, the sausage rolls were good, maybe a little bigger (especially for the price). The tiffin was poor, digestive biscuits and raisins set in chocolate ganache with sprinkles, more of a kids party cake than afternoon tea. The Victoria sponge was ok, very small slices compared to the wedges on the counter. Scones were nice with jam and clotted cream. Overall very underwhelmed, I wouldn't go back, I think there is better out there for the same price. For £33 I expected something a bit different, like a more unusual sandwich filling or unique cake. Can't knock the staff, very friendly and the cafe was clean.

A lovely setting and, on the surface at least, the Yew Tree has lots going for it. Many tables already booked at 1045. However we stopped here for a coffee which we found rather disappointing. We have been really surprised at how good cafes have become at presenting their coffees, showing expertise at making the full repertoire, at various locations on the East Coast. But here, the coffees were like something from the bad old days. We suggest proper training for the baristas.

What a lovely little place! We had breakfast here after staying the night before at The Plough over the road. The cafe is so pretty with the flowers in the window and was already busy as soon as it opened at 10am. We chose to sit outside and watch the world go by. We both had a sausage sandwich in a fluffy white bap with a hash brown and a pot of tea. The food was lovely and the service nice and friendly. Our bill came to just under £17 which I thought was great value . Would highly recommend.

Business partner and I ordered ham and cheese quiche salad. When it arrived it was basically an egg pie. Round deep pie with little or no filling other than gooey egg. Salad consisted of rocket with a dressing. Slaw was red cabbage with mayo. Ate here before and was nice. Very disappointing. Won’t be back.

A beautiful sunny ☀️ day and I was meeting my friend on a spur of the moment get together. I had been to the beautician’s opposite this cafe and was ready for a pot of tea! On entering it was busy and I was greeted by a lovely smiley lady who asked me if I had booked then showed me to a table by the window. I hadn’t booked as it had been a spontaneous decision but I would definitely recommend to for new customers like me! I ordered a pot of tea and perused the menu, while waiting for my friend. The atmosphere was lovely with many tables busy. Being disabled I felt a bit conspicuous but all the lovely friendly Staff helped my anxiety and I relaxed. When my friend arrived I wanted to see how much time she had and we ordered lunch of tuna sandwiches. I LOVE tuna and this was the BEST tuna sandwich I have EVER had!! I took a photo of it as I could not believe how good it was! The tea, which I can’t take with milk anymore, was as beautiful as a clear amber pool and so refreshing with NO sediment in it, which again I’d never experienced before. My friend and I had a lovely relaxing time and I was tempted by the beautiful array of freshly made cakes on display. I since found out that they actually do food to order and will put up a photo of it. Again it was the best lightest fruitiest cake ever… it tasted like it was so full of vitamins and good things that I thought it had been made by Angels… I later found out the chef that day was JENNY and whom I thanked later on. The bathroom was also a lovely experience… it is suitable for everyone including DISABLED and has supportive aids if needed, which I did. In addition to that the decor was awesome and consisted of lists of famous cast members from concerts around the area… so unique and interesting! I think I have taken a couple of photos to include with this review. On leaving I thanked the staff and paid the bill and left a tip as all of them had been so kind that I wanted the Management to know what incredible staff they have in MILLIE, JESS and in mega chef JENNY!!! Thank YOU ALL for a wonderful experience one that I hope to repeat very soon :) Many blessings to you ALL xxxx

We have stayed locally on several occasions previously but this time we found that our normal ‘go to’ breakfast establishment was closed until early January so we looked for an alternative. We found the Yew Tree Cafe on TA and so thought we’d give it a try - i, my Fiancée and our teenage daughter have been everyday for breakfast since which says all you need to know. Lovely little establishment, very friendly and attentive staff and lovely food. So far it has been full at every visit with some customers having to be turned away (so best to pre-book as we did) but it seems like many of the regular customers are locals, which perhaps underlines the quality of service. Their classic English breakfast is superb and very ample! Don’t hesitate, give them a visit !

We came across this place by chance, during a long walk. We’re glad we did – it’s a real find. The welcome was warm and friendly – even though it was nearly lunchtime and we just wanted drinks. We were given a sun-kissed table by the window and we felt right at home among all the lucky people there who were enjoying the lovely-looking food. Next time, we’ll make sure we’re there when we’re hungry!

Wow, last time we visited this cafe was, would you believe it, in the 1980s when I lived in Scarborough and went to school at Scalby not far from here. We visited as a family in August 2022 to have a nice lunch and we were not disappointed. Friendly service combined with a really tasty lunch - I particularly enjoyed my steak sandwich with blue cheese dressing - really yummy, and my teenagers rated the all day breakfast 10/10. Cakes followed and were excellent - the chocolate brownie in particular got the thumbs up from the family. So all in all, a lovely cafe in a charming village, friendly staff and excellent food - 5/5 !!

Popped in for late breakfast with a friend. After being seated for a while the waiting staff pulled themselves away from their conversation to serve us. The menu looked very pricey but if it’s high quality it’s worth it. I ordered a black coffee and a bakewell slice, my friend ordered poached eggs on toast and specified white toast. We had to repeat our order a couple of times as the waitress was obviously distracted. After a while my coffee arrived, it was very poor quality and Luke warm. The cake had been forgotten. The poached eggs arrived on possibly the cheapest thinnest ‘brown’ toast you could buy! Still no cake. We finally got the waitresses attention and pointed out the mistake with the toast, a tut followed and the plate was taken away to rectify. No apology and still no cake! Finally the poached eggs arrived on the white toast that was ordered but equally as cheap and nasty, I had to ask for my cake. The waitresses carried on polishing cutlery with their backs to customers, catching up on the gossip. My cake was fairly nice. Very disappointed in the quality of food, given the inflated prices. The service was appalling. I won’t be returning and will be supporting other cafes that value their customers. This is such a shame as I have wanted to visit here for a long time.

Having read some really glowing reviews we decided to call in for breakfast. The place itself it lovely and the menu had plenty of choice.I went for the veggie breakfast and my hubby the breakfast plate. The service was good and the filter coffee was lovely. Hubby said his tea could have been hotter. The breakfasts were nice enough. I couldn’t eat the hash brown. It was very thin and as a result incredibly greasy. Reminded me of fried bread.Hubby’s bacon was really well done. His fault since he should have asked for it lightly cooked. He also wasn’t impressed with the sausages. Said they had no texture but this will be a matter of taste. At just short of £20 we didn’t feel it was particularly good value for money. Certainly not the best breakfast we’ve had. But then it was no where near the worst. With so many other options I doubt we’ll return.

We have been to The Yew Tree each time we visit Scalby making a special visit to this cafe but this will be the last visit. We visited on the 11th september 2019 and ordered from the special board cheesecake with berries. This was served with jus no berries when I asked about the berries the assistant was not forthcoming about the fact that eventually she admitted they had no berries. She was matter of fact and made no attempt to rectify this. I asked for a reduction from the bill and the assistant had to go in the back to ask which left me stood minutes listening to a conversation which should not have happened, 30 pence was taken of the bill!. The coconut and berry sponge cake was not up to standard, dry and poor quality nothing like what we have eaten in this cafe in the past. Visited this cafe yesterday for afternoon tea. The staff were very pleasant but after ordering our selection of sandwiches and cakes we had to wait a ridiculous 40 minutes before our food arrived. During this time a few other people entered the cafe and ordered food. We were very surprised to see that their cooked meals all arrived before any sight of our food! We had been given coffee while we waited but only half a cup as the 'pot had run out'. The waitress said she would put another pot on but only came to top up our cups once the food arrived and that was it. One small cup of coffee was not really enough to last the 40 minute wait, and to last through our meal! The sandwiches, when they finally arrived, we're tasty and fresh and the cakes were nice (apart from the pistachio cake which was basically vanilla with a few crushed nuts on top) Just a shame we had to wait so long, especially when others were receiving their meals before us.

Really popular local cafe which welcomes dogs. We chose to sit outside as there was a little more room for us with our border Collie but no issue taking them inside. Good choice on the menu. I settled for the soup which was a generous helping and very nice. Well worth a visit if you are in the area although it looks like it could get busy at the usual peak times. Don't let this put you off though.

We stopped off for breakfast on a trip to Scarborough. Staff very welcoming and the cafe is in a lovely location on a corner in Scalby. Service with a smile, eggs cooked properly and presented with some nice toasted bread. This made an excellent start to our day.

We visited Yew Tree cafe on the way back from our holiday in Scarborough and we were definitely not disappointed. As it was around 10am we all decided to order from the breakfast menu. The avocado and poached eggs on toast was delicious and the eggs were perfectly cooked and wonderfully runny. The vegetarian breakfast was great, the main highlight being the veggie sausages which tasted amazing. The bacon and sausage are all locally sourced and the granary and white bread are made locally and is the perfect addition to any of the breakfast options. Our dogs were made very welcome and the staff were all very friendly.

Called here after a walk for a nice cuppa and some cake. Unfortunately Sunday afternoon is not the time to visit as they literally have just a couple of slices of cake left. Two more couples came in after us and looked disappointed too. The photo on this page looks lovely but sadly not for us, This is the second time this has been the case and we won't bother going again.

Staying in the Northstead area of Scarborough we walked to Scalby village for a look around. We decided to have a coffee which was fine. Having had a hotel breakfast we didn't need food but watched enviously as some good looking, and varied, breakfast were served to our fellow visitors. Will not hesitate to call again if in the area.

Menu limited but cakes seem home baked. As the cafe had had a busy day we decided to have sticky toffee pudding which i am sorry to say did not come up to scratch just seemed on ordinary sponge. Been in the past and enjoyed the food. The afternoon teas looked scrumptious

We we’re staying at a caravan and camping site nearby and wanted a breakfast before driving home. We thought we’d give this place a try. Lovely breakfast, my wife wanted crispy bacon and that came out well and I got black pudding as an extra.

We'd been overnight in Scarborough for a concert and wanted more than a generic hotel breakfast. A quick google & drive later we arrived here. Lovely setting, pleasant staff but most importantly- delicious food. I had waffles & the others had avo/eggs/ bacon or sausage butties. Eclectic mix but all thoroughly enjoyed with good coffee.

Stayed at the Plough Inn opposite for a wedding and was recommended the Yew Tree for some breakfast. We had a delicious meal - poached eggs on toast and full English. Lovely tasting coffee. The cakes look delicious too, all homemade. Would definitely recommend.

We had read the reviews and we looked forward to a special brunch. However we didn't enjoy our meal. Also the coffee which was a basic filter coffee was horrid. Costs £1.60 with separate hot or cold milk.

upon arrival you are asked to choose the sandwich of your choice and to pick the cake you would like from the cakes on the counter. It comes in a three tiered cake stand with proper Yorkshire sized sandwiches and scones. You could have a refill of coffee or tea if you needed it. The cups and plates were all different which made it even more quaint. The staff were very pleasant as we were too full to eat all the cake they offered to put the remaining cake in a bag to enable us to take it home,

We have been to Scarborough many times and missed this small cafe. Wonderful cakes etc. The poached eggs on toast needs a special mention, the yolks were dark gold and the taste was as I remember eggs tasting years ago.

We arrived on holiday, late, hungry and tired. Decided to pop in for a meal. It was a busy night, but staff were so helpful, friendly and accommodating. Everywhere was lovely and clean and the food was tasty, hot, good value and good portions. Would recommend!

What a find! This has been the loveliest meal we have had this year. The food is beautiful, my husband had haddock and loved it. I had rib of beef and it was just delightful some of the best food I have had. The landlord was super lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The staff were lovely and attentive but not over bearing. The menu gives lots of choice and there is a brilliant gin menu. They are dog friendly too so we all had a wonderful time- thank you. We have booked up for Sunday lunch when we are next on holiday over here. I couldn’t recommend this place enough

We came here last night for a meal and was one of the best home cooked meals I ever had. The staff were so lovely and we even got to play some darts before our food came!
