Visited for a late lunch while on holiday in the area. We had Gammon steak, eggs and chips which was well cooked and presented. Also a Steak and ale pie with mash and peas. The pie was delicious, probably the best pie I have had in a long time. The waitress said that it's made by their chef and is very popular. We will definitely be returning again just so my husband can try it as well.

Just came for food for my birthday with friends..the place is an amazing find..the alleyway gives a Camden boho feel to it and the beer garden at the back is stunning..we all ordered the same steak onion and mushroom baguettes..the plated at first glance looked amazing ..well the salad was hacked and piled on the plates with no real care.. coleslaw was chunky cut but ok no seasoning the chips are awful cold and scrappy obviously refried..then the baguette. The bread is lovely the mushrooms and onion could be cooked better cut smaller to fit..the beef was chewy and cold..we did tell the waitress if our issues and after 30 mins are still waiting for fresh chips..utterly disappointed and now no one will clear our table..we have left so much food..

Belly buster sandwiches, and burgers that are huge.haggis bonbons are amazing. Multiple tables in a beautiful beer garden. Limited room inside which is a shame, most tables reserved so need to book. Can't complain about the food and love the querky old fashion decor. Nove traditional pub. Lovely friendly staff. Wouldn't hesitate to return.

Booked for a late mid week lunch with friends. Cosy bar and lovely cheerful staff. A varied menu. Sensible prices. All our meals were delicious. The home-made steak and ale pie was fantastic. Fantastic venue. Fantastic food. Great atmosphere! Quaint little pub, oldest in louth. I'd say oldest for a few miles I think! Log fires and wood burners ablaze! Cosy front bar nice big room at back but managed to nestle ourselves in a little corner despite them being very busy where we partook in homemade steak pie for me and lasagne for my guest. Portions are sizable and was feeling very full ready for the afternoon upon completion of our meal! Staff are always warm and welcoming too! The craft beer selection is something else as well! Always something new on almost every time I go in! I'm pretty sure the reviewer below mine must have been in a different pub because her experience just does not sound right and I've been here many times! Still each to their own! You cant please all of the people all of fhe time! Anyway ... Great place, highly recommended! 👌

This is a great little local pub in the heart of Louth we visited most days while we spent a week in Louth, the service was fantastic, especially from Sara the landlady, we had a couple of chats with her about my family who live close and she remembered and asked about them the next few days - very impressed - great atmosphere - we had breakfast on our last day before we headed off, that was amazing, I had smashed avocado on toast with a fried egg on top and my husband had a small full English which was quite large, the large one would have been too much - we will definitely return when we are back in Louth - five stars all round!

Ive had 2 crap meals in here in the past 3-4 weeks. The first was a steak pie, plenty of overcooked meat and the crust was literally as hard as concrete - shocking but to be fair the staff were very apologetic and gave me a full refund. The 2nd, last Sat eve, Cheesburger and chips, the burger was the worst tasting/texture, ever and the chips, whilst looked great, were undercooked/hard in the middle. Didnt complain as I couldnt be a****d! Also I thought they’d had their chance with my hard earned and maybe they’d respond better to some bad press! Shame really as upto recently the food in there was exceptional! New faces working there maybe has something to do with this!

When you walk into a pub at lunchtime looking for somewhere to have your lunch you don’t expect to be asked to leave within minutes of entering the premises. Especially when you’re a group of 11 including two mid 80 year olds and a 8 year old who have found seats and taken coats off to settle. Either they can’t function as a pub and the prospect of 11 people ordering food and drink is a far too scary concept for inept staff at an incapable establishment, or the staff are just so rude and unwelcoming that they turn people away at the sight of them. We didn’t get a chance to even look at the menu so cannot comment on this. We were all left with a sense of confusion and embarrassment and the younger members of our group were upset that they had done something to upset the proprietors. It must be a shock to find out that being pleasant in the hospitality sector is a must!

Visited at lunch time, no problem with the food which was very good. However - although I am quite happy to use a pub that is dog friendly, I do think it is very unhygienic for dogs to be allowed to sit on the seating used by others and even sit in the windowsill. They should be on the floor and on a lead, not at the same height as my lunch! (The pub does have a separate room that you can eat in which I was told after we ate that does not allow dogs) I think there should be notices showing visitors that this is the case. But I still maintain that owners should not allow dogs to sit on seats that others have to use when they come in from the street, who knows what they have walked in??

We decided to eat in the main bar, My mum and I had wanted the same, which was the mince beef pie on the specials (only one left), so my mums choice was the beef and ale pie. These where lovely and seemed very home cooked. My friends choice was just egg and chips and at first her chips were unfortunately not cooked through!. On just saying about this, the staff took back her meal an made sure everything was cooked and perfect for us. I have been to this Public House before, but just for a drink, and liked the friendliness and the atmosphere, so when friends arrived from Oxfordshire, we took them there for lunch. Excellent in every way, I had the fish and chips, and the fish was really lovely and in a nice light batter, but the chips were hand cut and everyone in the party commented on it. Interestingly when I went to the bar with my friend to order a round of drinks, he said to me as the barmaid was taking the order, "Do you want the same glass or a fresh one"? And before I could answer the barmaid said " It will be a fresh glass" This may only be a small point, but shows the care and attention to detail that this establishment offers. The whole experience was very good, and I will certainly come back again,

It was after 2pm but lunches are served until 3. The meal was served very quickly and the staff were friendly. The beef was well cooked and the veg plentiful. My only complaint would be that the plate was a little too small for the very generous portions. The toilets were clean and presentable.

My last review expressed my disappointment at the lack of customer service at this establishment. Despite this I have revisited several times since and things have been ok. I called again this evening and I fully appreciate they were busy but on arrival three members of the team were behind the bar. One member of the team ( I assume it may have been the landlady) was in discussion with two customers at the bar. I stood behind these customers for some time with no acknowledgement from any of the three for what seemed ages. I walked out in the end and thankfully received better service elsewhere. All it needed was for one of the three to acknowledge me and say I won't be a moment!

Visited recently and it is so sad that not for the first time the lady behind the bar was very surly to the extent that I felt I was an inconvenience! It was obviously more important to chat with the regulars. I fully understand how important regulars are but a smile and a thankyou would be nice. I may not be classed as a regular as such but I do visit often particularly in the summer to enjoy the delightful beer garden. I find it naive to not realise all customers are important. Such a shame as it's a lovely pub otherwise. Thankfully there are plenty of other establishments in Louth that obviously do understand customer service !!

The beer I had (Bass) was very good and we were served well both at the bar and by the waitress. My partner and I both chose fish and chips. They couldn't have been more diferent in appearance. My partner's had a lovely crispy golden coloured batter on the fish. My batter was a pasty in colour and soggie. I should have sent it back but the fish underneath the batter was actually very good so I stuck with it but leaving much of the batter. My partner thoroughly enjoyed hers and unusually managed to eat the lot. Another customer served at the same time as us was also muttering about her soggie batter. I don't understand how the same kitchen can serve two same dishes so diferent at the same time. Two cooks? Who knows 50% success is not good enough,

We were seated quickly enough in a compact dining area. Our order was taken and we weren't waiting overly long for our meal. It was average fare, not badly priced but it was so so.

My wife and I went here for lunch. The atmosphere in the lounge was good with a welcoming open fire. The food was well priced, very tasty and good value for money. The staff were welcoming, helpful and efficient. A thoroughly pleasant experience

Bought a large traditional pasty, was warm and delicious, price was a little on the steep side at £5.70 but overall could not fault it, would recommend.

The Barge is located right in the centre of Grimsby, if you are here drinking then it's a must visit place. The barge itself was being painted when we got there which will end up looking good and giving it a nice refresh. Inside is nice, good jukebox and nice service. Beer is on thr pricey side but worth it - there are a lot if dives in this town so you get what you pay for. Ample outdoor seating which was nice in the sun. Would recommend.

Charged £19.90 for two burgers. Menu says comes with chips and got only the burgers. My sister who I was with also had no chips and got told she only paid a £5 each for the burgers but her bill was £39.60. They don’t give you a receipt. Probably over charge all the holiday makers
