Ye Olde Salutation Inn in Nottingham

I enjoyed the food, except I received extremely rude and slow service. The atmosphere was very boring and filled with people considered ‘chavs’. I will never return and I hope others will do the same.

Bit of a metal bar, though that's ok by me. Got to try Iron Maidens own beer!

Great rock and metal bar/pub experience. Gets busy at weekends, please help keep the place going. It holds memories for many, many years for tours, gigs and night's out. Great food, too. Good Luck!!! \m/

My friends have been going here for a few years and I currently started going myself because I’m local to Notts and I won’t lie when I say I think this is one of the best bars in notts the people are friendly and approachable and just easy to talk to theres a really nice guy who works there with an American accent who never forgets to say hello, and on week days great food defiantly a place for everyone to go to. Also an amazing venue for bands with a great sound system I would recommend the ska night for ska fans and hex night for any fan of a biker style night out

A recently refurbished town pub.Not yet a large choice of beers which will be added to in the coming weeks. On the verge of town centre,not much footfall yet.

Kate, Karen and Keighley really looked after us. The place is so friendly. We felt so welcome and the food was amazing. Don't miss out on this treat!

Coming here for the karaoke night. Was impressed with the interior since it was the oldest club in Notts. However, once I ordered the raspberry beer, it taste so watery, no taste at all!! Went up for the karaoke, the atmosphere was intense, didn’t know that this karaoke was only for rock/metal songs only. They didnt say that. I picked some songs from the list, and waited for hours for my songs to come out. But the DJ didn’t play it and once I asked, he said, I didn’t like this song, so I don’t play this. The DJ also only prioritised his acquaintances and regular singer there. Unfortunately I had a bad experience here

Been using this pub all my life...one of the only alt/rock pubs left and had a special place in my heart. Landlord used to be my brothers best mate at school...come so far Jason. Put the benches back in...seats are so limited now.

Just popped in for a quick drink had burger and chips for only £5 absolutely delicious can’t get that from McDonald’s highly recommended food war 10/10 for a quick snack don’t think this can be beaten

Generally considered a rock or alternative bar, set in a very ancient, centuries old building. Good selection of beers, quick service, and well worth a visit to pop the juke box on!

Oh dear. No handpumps on but one. Asked for a half. Came out cloudy. Asked if it was alright. Bar lady looked pee'd off for asking. She said 'it looks ok'. Asked if it was supposed to be cloudy. 'I think so'. Asked if it was fresh on. 'Yes'. Would have been nice to have received customer service tbh. Beer tasted weird. Went into the small side rooms to find staff sitting around, and a man lying on one of the seat. Not very welcoming. Let a bit intimidated if I am honest. Not really a very good experience tbh. What is going on!!

I always love the sal, typical rock bar that hosts gigs and club nights. Good selection of drinks. I've never done it but they offer ghost tours as the place is haunted!

Staff & punters are all welcoming & friendly, drinks, food & music are fantastic & everyone is lovely to my dog. All this is why I've been going on The Sal for over 30 years

My go to as an alternative venue,opens late, zero attitude,plenty and I mean plenty of choice for the discerning drinker.

I mean, I love the Sal, but have heard some less positive stories from some friends, unfortunately, which edged me down from a 5 star review. I'm aware nostalgia may well be influencing my opinion, as we had weekly socials here when I went to uni, but for me, it's always felt welcoming to the alternative crowd; good music, occasionally live, and I've had friendly chats with staff the last couple of times I've visited. Also, decent food at very reasonable prices, I recently discovered!

Interesting bar. Great rock and biker style bar with some big heritage. Ask about the haunted caves. If you like it a bit rock and metal it's the place to be. Live bands upstairs with great sound

Very dark and dingy inside, but historical pub, and seems to focus on biker or metal music types. OK if you like that vibe. Outdoor seating good and decent beer.

Very cool Pub said to be the oldest in England. Reasonable prices considering location and what they probably could charge being attached to a major tourist attraction. Great selection of beer and very cool to see it carved into the side of the mountain that Nottingham castle sits on.

Great place full of atmosphere, huge selection of drinks and great food and very affordable and fantastic staff and service. Been twice this week, it's my new favourite 😊

Lacks atmosphere for such an amazing building. We went on a Saturday night and it felt like the end of a night when they switch the lights on.

Good music, great drink choice. Was recommended by a work colleague to check it out before heading to a gig. Will be back next time in Nottingham.

Stopped by this pub on our way home to Yorkshire as I had heard that it was one of the oldest pubs in the country, I enjoyed how it looked as you could tell it was an old one. It seems like it is kind of a punk/mosher pub so I felt a bit out of place in my under armour tracksuit LOL! And there did seem to be a few glances from other customers there and I did hear a muttered comment or two so I think maybe I was out of place. But the bar staff were professional and served me promptly and I left happy. I saw there was food but didn't have the time before I had to leave. Would have liked to see the caves too but didn't really have an opportunity. Maybe next time I am in Nottingham I will wear an appropriate costume and come back!

Very old pub, friendly staff, great atmosphere

Fantastic pub, great staff, very much a rock and metal venue. Had a lovely, reasonably priced Sunday lunch followed by a great gig upstairs. Stairs only access to the gig room unfortunately. Brilliant free jukebox, superb range of drinks, highly recommended.

Good rock/metal theme pub with a decent selection of beers on. Usually some decent stuff on the jukebox. Toilets aren't the best though. It's nice to sit outside when the weather is good too!

The Attic at Ye Olde Salutation is the best place in Nottingham if you want a good night out listening to all types of rock music

Visited with a large stag-do group on a Saturday lunchtime for food and drinks in between activities. The staff were super helpful in arranging the booking and the pre-ordered food. On the day the service was quick and friendly, and the value for money was excellent (the portions are large!). Looks like there's a great metal music scene there for people who are into it :)

One of the oldest pubs in the world 🌎 with some good beers.

A great metal pub in the center of Nottingham that serves a great pint of trooper. Popped in here with a friend after coming out of ye olde trip and I was delighted to find one of my beloved ales served here on tap. Friendly bar staff, spacious main saloon and tables outside the front. They also have a touchscreen wall mounted jukebox meaning the tunes are on all day. Will be returning on my next trip!

Wanted to see this particular pub as it claims to be of the same era as ‘The Trip’. Disappointingly, the staff were as sullen as the obviously local patrons. Felt so unwelcome so left after one beer. Avoid going here if you are after an ‘Olde English’ pub - go to the Trip or The Bell instead.

It was quite an experience to be there. Tasty beer and a good old hardcore show. Venue got some character to it. Hope to come back soon.

I never eat whenever I go to the Salutation so I cannot give it a Food Star rating. Beer is usually well kept, though, and compared to most city centre pubs/bars their prices are quite reasonable. A traditional olde worlde pub, with the main attraction for us ageing rockers, being the music 👍🤘

They sell absinthe. It's great, put your music on the machine and enjoy your night. Everybody is friendly.

Unfortunately as foreigner I have experienced signs of discrimination and prejudice from the members of staff and regulars at that pub.

Great place to visit this pub has been here a very long time. Recently visited and for once I wanted a change in a drink. The bar staff recommended a drink and I'm glad he did, it was fantastic

Awful behaviour by one of the staff. Instead she could have been so helpful in making the space available and accessible as it’s the Christmas cheer season. Just so rude to us and others that locals said their not coming back and ruined our experience of Looe. Didn’t need that type of negativity from her as we were just wanting a quiet festive drink to end our vacation. It’s so Christmassy in there so I recommend it ! But just stay clear of a tall lady with blonde hair, locals are telling me she can like you and be pudding and pie or just plain rude.
