Ye Olde Rock Inn in Staffordshire Moorlands

A return to the Ye Olde Rock Inn after many years of not going, I ordered the steak on the menu which was cooked well but wasn’t to my taste. Probably a fault of my own as I had no sauce with it, my pint of Madri tasted off though so was disappointed with this. Service was good and staff were attentive, atmosphere was let down by loud children but this can’t be helped. Would come here again!

Beautiful old pub with superb food. Unfortunately it's just off the main A53 so people do not know it's there but if you see the sign please turn off and try it, great beer too. Well worth a drive out to. I'd absolutely love it as my local

No passing trade at this beautifully gem of a place, but always worth a trip out. Not for the first time, we had the sirloin steak. Cooked to perfection, and as good as any i have had. Lovely inside and i would highly recommend

We have visited Ye Olde Rock Inn a few times and always enjoyed our time there. The place is charming with lovely Christmas decorations and a beautiful tree in the corner. Just the place to kickstart my festive season and sample the menu. We decided to go for the Christmas dinner , absolutely excellent 👍. Over the years I have sampled quite a few festive meals but this one really did stand out. Wonderfully presented and tasted superb, a really home cooked experience. Well done to all at Ye Olde Rock Inn , a fabulous place.

Again excellent meals this time, fish, steak and vegetarian. A lovely setting, comfortable with charming welcoming hosts and privately owned. What more could you want. Looking forward to nother visit.

Absolutely made our trip. We were staying nearby just for one night and wanted a nice meal. Well what can I say. Absolutely perfect, from the friendly warm greeting we received when we arrived to the delicious food which was amazing. We had the burger which was the best one I've ever had. My husband had the baby ribs which he will be talking about forever. We also shared sticky toffee pudding which was also delicious. Even though we were stuffed after our mains we just had to try one of their puddings. It didn't disappoint. It's hard to find a pub in this day and age that obviously cares so much that the customer has a fantastic experience. Ye Olde Rock Inn have everything spot on. Fantastic welcoming staff, varied menu choice with amazing delicious food. Great value for money and the whole place is spotlessly clean. Great music choice playing (not to loud). An area for doggie lovers and area for non doggie lovers and what looked like a fab pool table in the bar end. Outside area looks lovely too and can't wait to visit again with our doggies when we are in the area. We are actually planning to come that way again just for the meal and experience at this pub as it was that perfect. Thank you.

Great place to eat nice atmosphere

Over the last 12 months a friend and I have been visiting pubs and hotels to review one dish only on the menu. FISH AND CHIPS! The fish and chips today were the best we have had in 8 plus establishments! 10 out of 10 ✓ An excellent lunch!

Booked a evening table for 9 service excellent and lovely friendly Waitress All the food apart from the 4 of us who had the Fish and Chips was excellent all 4 commented on how small the fish were and my plate full of chip bits but otherwise lovely evening

Haven’t visited for quite a few years and was really impressed with the decor and welcoming atmosphere. The service was quick and all the staff were lovely. The food was delicious and nothing was too much trouble, highly recommended.

Parked in the large Car Park opposite the pub for a walk around the Roaches..Signs in the Car Park allowing parking for walkers and also stated on website so a nice find for after walk food. Excellent welcoming pub and staff and very nice inside,good selection of beers and food. Food was excellent and service very good would highly recommend if in the area and will be using again..

Lovely place - great ambience, excellent customer service by a server who took time to listen, advise on choices and preferences, our first visit but will not be our last. The food was fantastic, my steak was cooked to perfection. Other members of the party were as pleased with their choices. Generous portions of good quality produce, good menu - was recommended by 3 separate friend groups - did not disappoint - highly recommend 😁

Dropped in as passing on our way back to our caravan site. Planned to have just a drink but ended up stopping for Sunday lunch as the inn had a fabulous atmosphere. Food was amazing. Service fantastic. Small portion was more than enough for my husband and I.We will definitely return.

Visited last night and from calling and booking everything went well. We had dogs and they have separate rooms to accommodate. Food was excellent.Staff friendly . Can highly recommend.

We were walk in customers for dinner. They managed to accommodate us. Food was excellent and service very good.

A group of 8 of us called in, midweek for lunch and a couple of pints. All the meals we had were first class and the real ales were well kept. Highly recommended. We'll be back

A gem of a place, located in a beautiful location & has been recently refurbished. It provided excellent service & freshly cooked food . We were allowed to stay overnight in our camper, which meant we could fully enjoy what this place has to offer. Thank you , we'll be back !!

Fantastic place to grab something to eat after a hike. Me and a few friends came here after hiking for a few hours. Met with a very friendly and upbeat barman who was very attentive throughout the whole visit. Food was served fresh and very quickly. Dessert was amazing too. Will definitely return if I'm ever back up this way.

Visited on Saturday evening and was not disappointed! We received a warm welcome by the front of house team and attentive, friendly service from all staff throughout the evening. There was a great choice of drinks behind the bar (the red wine was really good!) and the food menu sounded so appetising that it was hard to choose what to order! (We chose the flat iron steak from the main menu and Chilli Parmesan chicken from the specials board and they were delicious) The food was served in a timely fashion, even though everything is cooked freshly to order and it really was cooked to perfection - by far the best meal that we have eaten out in a long time, and overall good value for money. The lovely decor and relaxed atmosphere added to a great evening and we will definitely be returning….. (We did pop back the next day for a drink after walking on the Roaches as this pub is in a perfect location, and the Sunday lunches looked fantastic. Unfortunately we had already eaten our picnic, but we will know for next time!!! ……….)

We called in without booking and was told we could choose any empty table except one that was set out. The young male waiter brought the menus and asked what drinks we would like. The starters arrived very quick and was delicious. The young waitress brought the main course. Both were very nice and friendly. A credit possibley to good training. The food was amazing. The staff were very nice and helpful. It's just a pitty that we don't live closer as this pub/restaurant would be one of our favourites.

Went here as our 1st restaurant let us down massively (wont go into that) , however we are so glad they did as we came here as a spur of the moment with the family/kids and everything was spot on from the moment we walked through the door.. the decor, the service and the food. We had a lovely waitress who couldn't be more helpful . I'd highly recommend and will be back again :) thank you all for a lovely birthday 🥰

Once again, another country pub serving ‘bog standard’ food with Gastropub prices. I wanted just something light after a walk over the Roaches, so I was going to order a sandwich, until I saw the prices. They were titled ‘Our finest Baguettes!’ then the grubby, laminated menu continues to say- “All served on a white ciabatta!” …… Lol!! 😂 In the end I ordered a chicken wing starter for £8.95… and some chips for £4.75….For this I got five chicken wings which I suspect were microwaved, drowned in barbecue sauce and served in a small tapas bowl on a bed of wilted, undressed salad leaves. The tiny handful of frozen ‘skin on fries’ was also served in a tiny tapas bowl. Not only does Ye Olde Rock Inn not know the difference between a baguette and a ciabatta, it certainly doesn’t know the difference between good food and rubbish! They are very good at overpricing though! Absolute rip off Best Avoided!

After reading reviews and information on Ye Olde Rock Inn we decided to eat there. Can't praise this pub enough!! From the lovely dog friendly room we ate in to the stunning gastro quality food. Very clean smart inviting pub with a nice atmosphere. The owners Amy and Ed and our waitress Lauren were such nice friendly people. The food was perfectly cooked, presented beautifully, and tasted absolutely gorgeous it was alll perfect with good portion sizes. Visited today due to an antique valuation that was being held here. We were so impressed by the place; its menu, the staff and the look of the pub that we decided have lunch. We were not disappointed. The food is excellent, all home cooked by a chef who clearly knows his stuff. The manager/ owner is a delight and is obviously passionate about his business and couldn’t have been more welcoming. It was a chance find for us but we will certainly be back again before too long

Family meal for 7 of us. All had good food well cooked and served hot on hot plates. Will be going again.

Didn't have everything on the menu, no fish and chips! But what we had was OK. We had a choice of seating because we had our dog with us, but not in main area. We chose the dog room which we had to ourselves.

The bar staff were frosty and unwelcoming, when I asked for a serviette to place under the coffee cup, after the waitress had sloshed it in the saucer the barwoman looked across at our table and clearly gave me the impression that I should use the one set out for the meal. . . When the meal arrived the lasagna was dry and inedible and so was burger …. Frozen chips ? .....although I can concede that the meat in the burger was plentiful....sadly rubbery. An over priced pretentious menu in my opinion with unmet aspirations of fine dining, In my opinion The Rock Inn should do much better. I informed the waiting staff when they enquired if we had enjoyed our food that we clearly did not as three quarters of it was going back ...they made no comment. `my final impression ?....I will never return .

What a lovely premises! However The prices - ridiculous. £2.25 for a blackcurrant cordial with water. The pie was not worth £18 The food - ok. Absolutely fuming that they sell a ‘pie’ that contains no sides or base, only a bowl with a huge monstrosity of puff pastry on top. The Stilton and beef wasn’t great. The salted caramel roulade desert was fantastic The service - very slow. We had to start clearing our own table, as previous plates and many empty glasses were not removed.

First visit...lovely place, nice landlord & staff. Food was great & we didn't have to wait long. Was getting busy when we left but we've already agreed we'll go back 👍

We had an amazing meal this evening! The service is friendly and at just the right pace and the food is incredibly tasty. The Greek flatbread with the lamb is the best flatbread I have ever had, the ice cream and sorbet were the best ever too. Can’t say we bough good things about this place - only criticism is it’s so far from where I live!!

Thanks to a random overnight camping trip in the Peaks I ended up at The Olde Rock Inn for dinner on Saturday. I'm very particular with food and I have to say I had one of the best meals in the last few years and 100% the best blue cheese burger I've ever had!! Oh my goodness it was delicious 🤤 so much blue cheese and the black pudding fritter just made it!! For dessert I had banoffee pie, so rich and indulgent. Absolutely delicious!! We were also able to take my dog, were in the games room and had a few games of snooker. I didn't expect much but had a fantastic evening. The staff were super helpful and friendly and ill definitely be having another camping trip purely to go and enjoy another evening with beautiful food at The Olde Rock Inn!!

Amazing place for Sunday lunch after a long walk around the Roaches.

Great place for Sunday lunch or bar snack. They allow dogs but not in the main dining area. Food quality is very good, service is prompt and it has a pleasant atmosphere. The place is very clean and a beer garden at the back catches the sun very well. Prices of food and drink are what to be expected in the main but not extortionate by any means. Overall, I would recommend it as a fab countryside type of pub. 👍

Excellent pub lunch after a walk on The Roaches and round Hen Cloud. Spotlessly clean pub, we were welcomed by the landlord and guided to the dog friendly dining room, noce artwork of dogs on the walls. Lovely choices for food and it didn't disappoint when our selections arrived soon after. Very well kept beer, I chose the very local vrew named after Hen Cloud which was actually in view as I enjoyed it. Also enjoyed the music playing throughout the pub, a pleasing playlist. Fully recommend to anyone in the area

I've been driving past here since it was a grotty, but charming pub decades ago. We went again last Saturday and what a find. Tastefully renovated, wonderful, delicious food, friendly staff, efficient service, great beer, and pleasant customers. And not at all expensive. We'll be back soon.

Very hospitable pub, and all the people serving us were friendly and helpful. The food was delicious, and just what we needed after a long day hiking. It helps that there is a big car park as well, and I'm told they're happy for hikers to use this.

We have been here many times whilst rock climbing or hiking at the roaches, we have been for lunch and evening meals. The food is always fantastic, it's a great mix of pub classics and new tasty ideas. Blue Moon on tap is super rare in the UK and always a favourite. Staff have been known to be rude but generally all good.

Only called in for an afternoon drink, glad to see it has a separate area just for drinking. Cosy little pub. Would go again

My friends and I visited this afternoon, we’re not local so stumbled across this pub and it did not disappoint. Fantastic food & service. We had a wonderful woman who served us today and a kind gentleman (sorry didn’t catch their names) but they were so attentive, service was quick as well. Thank you again!

Fantastic place. Separate area for us doggy people. Food was fantastic. Service was very personalised. Will be back again for sure. Would recommend a visit when your in the area. 2 of us starter mains and a drink each £64 well worth the money. Pork belly bite are worth the trip!

Great location if you're walking the Roaches or bouldering nearby, buuut Drinks are quite pricey, even their flagship Landlord cask ale is about £5 a pint. This pricing isn't too out of the ordinary I suppose. They recently added Plum Porter to their cask roster, but it didn't taste as it should unfortunately. I work for Titanic, so perhaps I'm a tough judge on that. I haven't had enough food to properly comment, but I always hear good things.

Good ales, good company and a welcome from the hosts for our new puppy: Ruby too. We checked out the menu for a return visit to try out the food. We enjoyed a few games of Pool & will return with our darts for a chance to hit the board with more than one arrow! We hope we will be making this a place we frequent in the future, as this is a positive gem of a pub. Try it for yourselves the next time you want a pub with character, charm and yet away from the madding crowd.

Disappointed to be turned away at 18:00 on a Saturday night, was told they were short staffed. I appreciate this happens but a simple chalk board informing customers turning up adhoc would of been a nice touch and made it less awkward at the bar

Spotted the sign as we drove North from Leek and took a chance - so glad we did. This is a gem of a place. Plenty of parking {recently resurfaced!) and a welcoming, fresh exterior is even better on the inside. A dedicated dog-friendly area for hikers is a great idea plus a traditional bar and separate lounge for diners. The menu is extensive and they offer a range of options for those with dietary restrictions such as gluten-free. We loved our visit to Ye Old Rock Inn and hope to visit again soon.

We called for lunch and it not disappoint, starters & mains were delicious, also the Rock has a wide choice of alcohol free beer’s for the drivers.

This was our first visit,from pulling onto the car park,and entering the venue,it was warming and welcoming from the staff all through our dining experience,the food and ambience was first class,we shall definitely be returning.

Clean, spacious, friendly, plenty of rooms offering different environment for dogs and hikers alike. Beer garden out the back with a nice view. And also the Guinness was spot on! A pool table in a little bar at the rear if your not looking for food. Recommend after doing the roaches walk 🚶👍
