Royal Oak in Staffordshire Moorlands

We visited the Royal Oak today ! When we arrived we realised it was very busy and wondered if we would have a wait !! We were a group of 4 and we all commented on how lovely the meals were ! The service from the lovely waitresses was efficient, professional and attentive. A good experience was had by all !! Would not hesitate to recommend!!

We had a fabulous evening last night. Even though we were a table of 12 with a two year old who was on the run for most of the time the staff handled us with the highest care and patience. The Christmas fayre was very well cooked and presented and the atmosphere was great! Well done and many thanks to you all!

Had a fantastic Christmas meal here. They do really good vegan options. Great service and the food was lovely.

Never had a bad meal here! Book a table as it gets busy cos it's so good, especially at the weekend. The fillet steak melted in my mouth and the chips are to die for!

I love the atmosphere in this pub. It has a few rooms and some corners. The rear room is pretty, but it's 1 room with tables all around which makes it not as nice as the front room/rooms. The steak and mushroom pie is great. I also love how they serve vegetables (in a separate dish).

Great restaurant/pub for lunch or dinner - we had a group of 11 and the staff were excellent and very accommodating of all the different food selections. One lady very kindly took a photo of our group for us. Food was excellent quality and the desserts were very tasty. Good choice of beer and wine overall.

Have visited regularly and always been impressed with the quality of food and service,visited today for the Christmas Fayre menu for the first time certainly not disappointed excellent service top quality food would certainly recommend a visit

Great food and good value for money

I went there to see if it was worth booking a family meal at Christmas. The to was warm and welcoming, the food was tasty, plentiful and hot. The staff were really helpful and friendly.. I have booked there for the family Christmas meal

We came to the royal oak for an evening meal. The restaurant wasn't too busy but we arrived around 6:45. The restaurant was really welcoming and the service was polite and fast. We were shown to our table and it wasn't long to wait for our order. I had the pear and Stilton salad as a main, you can have it as a starter if you wanted. I had the bread and butter pudding for desert. The food tasted amazing. I would have liked the pudding to be slightly bigger to match the price that was my only niggle really. Totally recommend if your looking for a delicious meal and value for money overall.

Just got back home, we went with friends we had 2course lunch menu 3 of urs had homemade leek and potato soup to start 2 had steak pie one had scampi one had chicken dinner it came with fresh veg new potatoes and chips really generous portions one had proffit rolls brilliant service food excellent staff brilliant definitely will return well worth visiting but book cus it gets busy but we had no waiting food bought all together highly recommended 😋 xx

Food fabulous as aways and staff very attentive as awayways. Can get a little noisy when larger parties are in but you have to expect that.

Lovely meal at the Royal Oak , we got there despite the flooded roads ,restaurant and car park full , a warm welcome and the 2 course meal excellent value , pate and then Steak pie , with chips , veg and requested mash , was lovely, plenty and the Hobgoblin Stout was enjoyed . Definately be returning, choices were good and varied and service excellent . A place I've driven past , but never been in , had heard good things about the food and decor , and only 10 mins from home , a good pub restaurant, clearly well known, it was full , so ring and book before you go . 😊👍

Really nice pub very comfortable feel to it, noticed a couple of times in the dining area it was difficult to get any response to wanting another drink so had to venture into the main bar to get a response to wanting another drink, thought the food was nice but could offer alternatives when it comes to the roasts or maybe new potatoes and the mash has an extra I feel should be something of a choice instead of the extra cost, everyone’s got there own idea of what a roast dinner should come with

I visited for Sunday lunch with my partner. We both found the menu extremely well priced - £12.50 for a Sunday lunch and £4 for starter and desert. The Sunday roast (chicken) was cooked perfectly with plenty of gravy and vegetables. The meat was skinless and boneless and tasted great! I had the fruit salad to start and the British pancake with cherries and ice cream for desert - which I would recommend highly. With two drinks, we paid £47.50 for two three course exceptionally well tasting meals.. superb value! Staff were friendly and prompt with their service. I would highly recommend this eatery and I would rate it as the best Sunday lunch I have had.

We go to the Royal Oak for most of our family occasions and always find staff very accommodating and friendy, great food with plenty even for the biggest appetite, all set in a lovely pub atmosphere.

Had booked for a family meal and yet again we were not disappointed.The service was great,the food was outstanding...again...my wife and I go to the Royal Oak on a regular basis and we are always very happy with everything.

We chose the Royal Oak for a birthday meal and were delighted with our experience. The menu was varied, the portions were substantial and the staff were polite, friendly and efficient. I had the baked brie starter followed by gammon, my husband had back pudding followed by a burger. Great value for money. The atmosphere was lovely, lots of families and couples, very relaxed feel. Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely fantastic food, nothing to fault atall, we had 2 courses at lunch time for £11.95 and it was spot in, the service was brilliant even though very busy, we didn't book amd they managed to squeeze us in, will definitely be back again.

We took our son as we've been before and enjoyed it. Great meal, super friendly service and not over expensive.

Had a lovely meal at the Royal Oak tonight. It was busy but the service was spot on. The two waitresses were very attentive and came around several times between courses to check we if we needed any more drinks and were very patient with my elderly parents. Food was lovely and good size portions. Lovely country pub.

Staff are welcoming and friendly, the menu caters for allergies and there is a wide variety of dishes on offer. The pub itself has a lot of seating both indoors and out and dogs are welcome. Food is of a traditional English nature with some world over favourites such as Kofteh. Portion sizes are generous and the price is reasonable for the area. Parking is to the rear as the front is a busy street and somewhat narrow in places.

Delicious food and great value for money

Best sunday roast around! Had a few disappointing sunday dinners else where and whenever were done we always say 'we could of had better at home', that was until here ! Better than I could ever cook at home, nice generous portion! Definitely will return again!

We met friends for lunch at the Royal Oak and the lunch we had was superb! We had the Cod Goujons Scampi and the Steak and Mushroom pie, all were beautiful and the homemade chips were amazing. We had Bread and Butter pudding and Waffle for dessert and again beautiful. The value for money is excellent and the staff were very friendly and gave excellent service. We shall definitely return!

Family birthday celebration Sunday lunch whilst holidaying locally and it was also mother's day so very busy. However the service was wonderful, we had children with us and had a table with plenty of space, thankyou. The food was of the highest standard, we were recommended to book here. Finally the exceptional value. We would eat here on a regular basis if we lived closer. First class and thanks again to your lovely staff.

Highly recommend the cod goujons with chips and mushy peas on the lunchtime menu, Excellent. The chocolate orange cheesecake was also amazing 😊

We’ve been visiting The Royal Oak for a couple of years now and love it. The food is AMAZING and great quality. The staff are friendly and it’s just a lovely place to eat.

Wonderful 3 course Christmas meal. I am coeliac and had no problem with my gluten free choices.

The food was seriously delicious. Good two starters, I had pate, wife had mushrooms, both nice. We both had the steak & mushroom pie, chips & veg. It was seriously tasty & absolutely delicious.The gravy was out of this world. The best ever! 😋 The service was quick & friendly. And the two pints of Pedigree were the very best I've had for years. 10/10. Good fair prices too. Will definitely go again. Thank you Royal Oak. 👍🤟🍺

Had the 2 course evening menu for £12.50. Portions were generous and the chips were delicious. This deal is excellent value for money. Service could have been quicker - but as this was a friend's catch up it did not inconvenience us too much.

Visited with family and was significantly surprised how tastefully decorated and a warm welcoming reception by very pleasant young lady. Drink order duly taken and was delivered quickly. Food orders taken and at a very reasonable price either individual or a two course priced option was offered. The food was delivered by very polite young staff who were very proficient in there task. A pleasure to see they were all smiling throughout and when it came to clearing tables and resetting they acted as a team. Very good. The food itself was freshly cooked and piping hot. By the taste of the food quality products are used as all meals were extremely tasty. I would have no hesitation in returning in fact will make a point of doing so.

We organised with the manager for a table of 18 for our family on our wedding day. Fantastic service and care. Looked after us and the food was as brilliant as it always is even with a big group. Cannot thank you enough for looking after us and making our evening very special.

Puddings 9/10, again, custard seemed to be microwaved and had some lumps inside and a jelly texture, but only few places are doing dessert in the house nowadays so its totally understandable. Lovely meal had the soup and roast beef

This pub has no toilet facilities for any one needing assistance for example just a handle on the wall to enable older or slightly disabled persons to use the toilet. On enquiring the pub are most unhelpful and dismissive.

Not in the main room that we would have chosen but the alternative room was acceptable. Food was very good and service was satisfactory. Not too bad a wait. Would definitely return in the future.

Been going here for Sunday Lunch for a very long time, food is always piping hot, beautifully presented, never had a bad meal, portions are on the large side and lovely home cooked chips, it's a pleasure to dine here, quality is top class

We are frequent and satisfied customers at the Royal Oak and have been for many years. We introduced some friends to the Royal Oak a few years ago and they often book parties of twelve into the restaurant. Very pleasant staff serve you quite quickly and are keen to help with the choices of food. The food is always served fresh and piping hot. My wife and l both chose a starter of soup and a warm roll. My main was blue cheese and pear salad with walnuts, together with a choice of lettuce and peppers amongst other things. My wife chose beef with mushroom with a pastry lid. Fresh vegetables were included ,which consisted of new potatoes, carrots and fresh peas. Also included is a large dish of the tastiest chips which l doubt that you will find anywhere else. We were undecided about whether or not to have the chips,which are always in large portions. The person waiting on us got impatient and snapped'Do you want chips or not?' We were the first in the restaurant so it was not busy. Maybe just someone having a bad day. Please visit the Royal Oak. They have an extensive choice on the menu and l am certain that you will enjoy it.

Suerb value and fabulous food need i say more .

We visited for a birthday meal on the recommendation of a friend and we were not disappointed. The first welcome from the staff was very friendly and same with service. There was a great buzz in the place. The smoked bacon and black pudding starter was a huge hit. The black pudding was moist and went really well with the peppercorn sauce. The black Cajun sea bass was equally as impressive, as was the mixed grill and bacon cheeseburger. Everything tasted so fresh. We are fussy about our steak but everything about it was great, cooked perfectly, tasty and so tender. The drinks were good quality and the Aperol spritz was perfectly balanced. We will be back and would highly recommend this place.

If you don’t mind being barked at and sniffed when you walk into a restaurant or pub, you might well love it here. Though I like dogs, I’m not keen on the trend for “Dog Friendly” dining. The Royal Oak was really busy for a weekday lunchtime – a good sign, perhaps. My son and I were quickly seated and given a menu and drinks, but it was ages before someone could find time to come and take our order. The two waitresses were rushed off their feet – they could definitely have done with an extra pair of hands. I was amazed at how pleasant and cheerful they were, considering. Full marks to them. The food arrived soon enough when we did eventually order, and it didn’t disappoint. Plenty of it, and good value for money. We might even try it again…

I have been dining at The Royal Oak regularly for the past 4 years. I have never had a bad or even 'average' meal here. The two course offer is around £14 per person and is fantastic value for money. I highly recommend the steak and mushroom pie and the lasagne. I can't comment on any of the desserts except the homemade cheesecake because I have it EVERY time I visit. Staff are friendly, food is always piping hot and served with fresh vegetables and homecooked chips served family style. We will be back soon!
