Ye Olde Punch Bowl Inn Restaurant in Shropshire

We booked to visit ye olde punch bowl for my 70th Birthday. I have however got mobility issues and have to use an electric scooter. I know from previous visits, (before my mobility problems) that due to the nature of the age of the building, with pillars etc, that space is a little tight for manoeuvring a scooter around. We rang beforehand to see if there would be enough room, only to be told "certainly, if you ring us when you arrive, we will come and open the function room doors and you can come through that way". This we did, as the food is second to none at ye olde Punch Bowel. My wife especialy likes thier carvery meals. I had a sirloin steak, which was cooked to perfection. Other members of our group had a carvery and the last one had something off the menu. The food was piping hot and the portions were very generous in size. I cannot pick out any particular member of staff, as they all were very pleasant and friendly. And looked after us very well. Now I know that access is not a problem, we will be visiting again. Thank you to all the staff and Ye Olde Punch Bowel Inn for making my 70th meal so enjoyable. I would highly recommend a visit to enjoy excellent food.

Really gutted to have to write this because we’ve always had such good meals here which is why we chose to gift a voucher for £50 to my husbands elderly aunt and uncle. They came for lunch one afternoon. The total came to less than £30 but they were told they couldn’t use the remainder of the voucher for another visit and had to spend it that day or lose it. Nowhere on the site does it mention this when purchasing and when they asked if they could take dessert home they said they don’t do that but they could give them some bottles…..handy when they don’t drink.

A cute English country pub & rooms. Sadly that’s it. Staying in room 203 on the ground level. NO sound proofing from the road or from anyone above you. Traffic goes all day and night. If someone is staying above, you hear their conversations, if they are going to the loo, having a shower or stomping on the floor. The pipes from their shower are in the closet beside the bed. Gets better, when the lights are turned off, the green light near be your door is on 24/7 and illuminates the room 😡 My first 1 Star review. Don’t do it!!! Breakfast was ok, can’t wait to get back to Australia for some real Orange Juice! Pub inside looks great, only positive.

Absolutley amazing Carvery and the Staff are superb. We love coming here as its the best carvery in the UK. Abbie served us and she was brilliant. Her customer service is exceptional and we love being served by her as she is so friendly and attentive.

Would recommend this restaurant most especially the carvery.Lots of choice of meats and veg.My husband is Coeliac and was able to enjoy his meal.They even had Yorkshire puddings and stuffing and gravy which was gluten free and served separately. I had one of the vegetarian options which was lovely along with the carvery veg. A word of warning, the desserts are quite large. The cheesecake was so so nice.Choice of gf desserts,my husband enjoyed the frangipane tart. Staff were lovely. We will be returning.

Amazing 2 night stay. Stayed here with my mum for a family wedding. The service was impeccable, warm welcome. All staff we encountered were so friendly and couldn’t do enough for you. The room we stayed in was the Cromwell room, it was beautiful. Very comfy and had everything we needed. The breakfast was incredible and so tasty, especially the sausages! Could have easily stayed another night… or three!

Came for a large family meal in June, we have always loved the punch bowl and recommend to our friends many times. What a disappointment! We were in the back room which lacked any atmosphere. The food was mediocre at the best. Some of the dishes were cold. There wasn’t enough staff, tables left not cleared. I emailed feedback and never received a response which was disappointing Sadly after the punchbowl being our go to carvery for many years. We won’t be returning. Very sad as we have had fantastic meals in the past.

Used to come here quite often when I lived in Shropshire many years ago, whilst visiting an old friend locally we popped in for lunch and weren't disappointed! Nice welcome, great service and good food. Couldn't fault it and would highly recommend!

My first time here following recommendations and I was not disappointed. A lovely welcome for my wife who has been before and was recognised by the staff member. The setting is beautiful, the carvery had an excellent choice with lovely meat and veg cooked to perfection. Great value for money and an excellent experience all round.

The carvery was bostin👍 So much choice of meat & vegetables, that were cooked perfectly, I loved the garlic potatoes. The staff were great & very helpful,& the bill was very reasonable for what you got, Will definitely be returning.

The Punchbowl’s carvery is outstanding. The service is to a very high standard. The dining area is lovely - very spacious & modern.

Although this place is mainly a carvery (which looked amazing), we went for the menu. Angie our waitress was lovely and highly recommended the cantonese beef sizzler and she wasn’t wrong. We really enjoyed the food and friendly service here, we will definitely be back as there was a lot more to try, including the carvery. Definitely worth a visit and the drive out there is very pretty and scenic.

So sorry to write this have been going to the punch bowel for a long time this evening was the worse meal the turkey was dry the veg was terrible the gravy was like water all round not a good experience.

WOW. it's been a while since I've eaten at "The Punchbowl" this time I attended with my family at 12pm on Sunday. We were greeted by a friendly, Smiley member of staff who immediately took us to our table, he then offered table service for our drinks which you don't really get anywhere anymore! This was a great touch as it meant we could spend more time at our table catching up! The carvery was fantastic, well presented and delicious! After our meals were finished we were asked if we would like to order puddings at first we said no but then we changed our mind after seeing the table next to us order. We were told the desserts were made in house by the chief and wow you can really tell that they're not mass produced rubbish! I would attend this venue just for a pudding if I was allowed too! Staff 5/5 Food 5/5 Looking forward to returning soon to try the "menu" during the week!

We've been booking for Sunday lunch at the Punchbowl for many, many years. Up until recently it's been our favourite carvery. Today, we took family and I have to say it was disappointing. Meat could not be cut thinner, it was almost see through and the cheesecake topping was over set jelly, absolutely gross. At £17.95 for a carvery as opposed to the Downs £14.95 where the meat is thicker, maybe it's time to think. What a shame.

This is the first time we have visited on a Sunday and we’ll definitely stick to weekdays. The number of people queueing for the carvery and at the bar wasn’t a comfortable thing to see. Food was good although the pork wasn’t up to your usual standard. Perhaps too many people hadn’t booked but they were told they could wait. We’ll certainly return but on a weekday when there’s less hassle and noise and you can enjoy your meal.

Staff are not interested if you have not booked. Lots of tables and lots left on the carvery yet we were turned away !! Over an hour left before the carvery officially finished.

It was my birthday, so we came to Shropshire after finding ye olde punchbowl on booking.com. As soon as you step inside the hotel, you’re surrounded by the atmosphere and history and memories of the past with its low ceiling oak beams, You’re welcomed into snug warmth by a big open fire, we were led to our room which was a wonderful converted attic with its own patio again with a wonderful oak beam, ceilings, extremely romantic and atmospheric, a wonderful place for couples we felt immediately at home. The room has all the things that you needed wide screen telly, USB ports on the electrical plugs, modern yet classic. Our room had a lovely bathroom with a walk-in shower or a big bowl bath, and here n there If you listen out for them the resident ghosts, they didn’t disturb our sleep but they were there all the same. Our room had a little enclosed patio, and yes there was sounds from nearby but it was no bother and our stay was relaxing. The room was clean and well presented and the staff were always smiley, always happy to help always positive and helpful. we had an evening meal in the bar from the carvery we are served with cut of beef, turkey or ham and a choice of vegetables sauces, and gravy, everything that you could possibly need. There was also a well laid out menu of starters, mains and desserts. This is a lovely hotel if you’re on a romantic stay or you’re moving through Shopshire on business or simply you want want a nice holiday coming to historic railway we thoroughly recommended and we’re very grateful to the staff of the punchbowl for making us so welcome.

if you want overcooked veg undercooked meat dishes that don’t arrive some of the staff who are rude. management that will not face the paying guests then visit the punchbowl This was in my opinion the worst carvery I have ever endured. I can say eaten as Most of us didn’t (9) in total and it is my birthday. Thank you the management the chefs if that’s what there title is. and some of the staff. will we revisit. somehow h i doubt it.

Our party of 11 visited on 14/01/24 for an 80th Birthday celebration. We were greeted at the entrance by a friendly & helpful lady who took us to our table & explained how the carvery worked All the staff were welcoming & willing to help Carvery was delicious, 5 choices of meat which were all cooked to perfection, including lamb which you very rarely get at a carvery. Great choice of vegetables including unusual ones which you wouldn't normally get. Food was hot, tasty & really enjoyable. Great choice of desserts, the lemon & raspberry creme brulee was amazing. A great visit for our celebration

We are regular visitors the the Punchbowl for Sunday lunch. Always brilliant with freshly prepared local produce and abundance of choice.

Retired Members Christmas dinner. Ambulance of the pub Was good and staff friendly and helpful. Starter and pudding served at the table main was a. Prawn cocktail started was o. K carvery good selection of meat and veg. Had the Turkey portion size average roast potatoes were good all the other vegetables were over cooked to the point of beening mush. Pudding was Christmas pudding was very sweet but at least it was o.k Enjoyed the reunion but the food had better for the price.

Ten of Us went for Sunday carvery on arrival the table was not ready ,.online states there is a childrens menu ,on enquiring we were told no kids menu on Sunday . The waitress asked the chef and we were told spaghetti Bol was available , which we ordered for the two children ,it Was absolutely awful the kids left every bit,and my wife being Italian knows when spag Bol is acceptable , and to rub salt in. It was £9 each for a small bowl the adults had the carvery whilst the food was well presented ,at £16.99 a head definitely over priced . Friend & I enjoyed a very tasty sunday lunch with trifle dessert. Meat was so tender & great to see Pork available. Would certainly recommend fhe carvery. Only down side was feeling rushed at the beginning, "if you dont go now you'll miss your slot" as im on crutches rushing isnt possible,and again at the end when the waiter advised we had 5 mins to finish. Visited with a few fellow friends customer service 3/5. Your staff spend more time chatting than they do table service. Meat was absolutely amazing and so were the garlic potatoes . Unfortunately the Yorkshire puddings tasted like Asda’s own frozen Yorkshire puddings. Quite disappointed as usually the Yorkshire puddings are lovely.

Thank you to all at the Punch Bowl for one of the best pub lunches I’ve had. The food was so fresh and high in quality, and the staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The venue is operating very safely given COVID restrictions and we both felt very relaxed and welcome. I would certainly recommend, and I’m looking forward to a return visit very soon!

After visiting for Sunday lunch on the 30th may I have to say excellent service, fantastic food and just got it spot with hygiene and cov’d safety. We felt completely safe. And such a good atmosphere. I will be recommending this venue.

Had lunch here today with friends. This a lovely old country pub with magnificent views. Despite Covid restrictions we were made very welcome by attentive staff. This venue has a carvery (cooked on an AGA) very highly thought of so we all ordered a carvery. We were not disappointed. There was a wide range of roasts including magnificent ham which was my choice. Lovely vegetables and sauces completed the experience. We ate desserts ( which we really did'nt need) to complete the meal. Very competitive prices added to our pleasure. Highly recommended.

Booked a table for lunch having driven by the week before and saw the sign for the aga cooked food. Not disappointed as the beef was indeed the best I’ve ever tasted, melted in the mouth. Veggies were plentiful and gravy beautiful. The desserts we chose were trifle and white chocolate and berry creme brûlée. Both were excellent and very generous portions. We opted for the 2 courses for £11.95 which was excellent value for such superb food. Upon arrival we were shown to our table and the server Charlotte explained everything in detail and was very attentive. Service was perfect and the safety measures in place for self service at the carvery were excellent. Sanitiser and gloves provided so you could serve yourself , felt very safe . The wipes and bag on the table were great and a good way to dispose of everything after the meal. I would adopt this even post COVID as it must be better for the servers to have all the rubbish in one place to throw away. Will be back again for certain.

My wife and myself visited for an evening meal while staying in the area. We opted for the 2 courses option, but I ended up wishing I'd only had the carvery, the food was so good I just had to finish the dessert even though it was a struggle! Quality of everything was excellent and portion sizes generous, we are returning soon for our 20th wedding anniversary celebration.

As a family we have visited the pub several times and it has always been a firm favourite however, after today’s visit I will not be returning. Although I appreciate the effort made with covid measures the attitude of the waiter was disgraceful, my 90 year old gran had used the bag provided to take some of her left over meat back for her dog, she had asked the young waitress if this was ok. However the man that came to take payment abruptly told my gran to put her napkins in the bag. I explained that we needed another bag as that one was being used, he told her “doggy bags” were not allowed in a patronising manner and another bag would not be provided. Then left saying we were not welcome back for failing to adhere to the guidelines. My elderly gran has been upset by this ever since. With the current pandemic eating out for my gran is a rare treat so to have her be made to feel upset like this is appalling!!
