Went for breakfast. 3 full english breakfasts ordered. Food was overcooked and meagre. Beans in a thimble, black pudding like hard tack buscuits. We couldnt eat it. Took staff ages to clear away. They were lots of staff but non attentive. Wont be back.

Fantastic stay at The Mytton & Mermaid. When we arrived the person checking us in noticed my partner had difficulty walking so he moved us from the second floor to the first, he also offered to help with the luggage. The rooms are excellent, we had a superior, which had a wall in shower. The food and bar service was excellent. We ate both evenings and had a drinks. The drink selection is extensive and the staff are good at making suggestions. Overall, cannot fault the staff or the hotel

Went for a special meal with friends, to celebrate Jane’s 65 birthday. The meal was booked for 8.00am and we all arrived slightly early. Everything was fine until we came to order our desserts. All the staff disappeared and when we did see a member of staff, they ignored our request for help. They were too busy setting up the empty tables for tomorrow. I have to stress that we were not slow eating our main course. After we had ordered our desserts with two coffees, they forgot about the coffees. When we eventually got their attention and asked what had happened to the coffees. We were asked if we still wanted them. This spoiled the whole evening for all, especially for our dear friend and her special birthday . Nice place but would never recommend it.

Fantastic place..........but the service 🥺 Visit here often, 3 times last week, but sadly, the standard of service is deteriorating. Key points are:- A welcome smile, and a simple can I help you, is preferable to a frown and an abrupt what do you want attitude. Reserved tables. No indication of the time they are reserved from. When my wife asked a waitress what time a table was reserved from, my wife was greeted with a loud "now" which embarrassed her in front of other guests. A simple "this table is booked, let me see if I can find you another table" would have been much appreciated. Even at quiet times, the bar is often not staffed, with the usual bar staff being used to take meals from the kitchen to tables. Paying your bill or getting another drink is challenging. We visit many Brunning and Price places, and we have not experienced poor customer service elsewhere. It's such a shame that the significant investment in a fantastic venue fails to provide satisfaction. Please take this review constructively and make our favourite B&P place a pleasure to visit again.

Visited The Mytton and Mermaid for the third time for a meal since it had been taken over and updated by Brunning Price on Sunday 04 March 2025. On our previous two visits we had found The Mytton and Mermaid a refreshingly comfortable place to eat but on this occasion , possibly because it was a Sunday we were very disappointed. PARKING - Do be aware that at peak times it has become very difficult to park at The Mytton and Mermaid , The car park at the front can be quickly filled and is patrolled by an attendant. A second car park is behind the Mytton and Mermaid accessed by a lane to the right of the building . However it also can be full at peak times and Brunning Price have made an application to Shropshire County Council to build a third car park on the other side of the River Severn and use the old stone bridge for pedestrian access back to the building . FOOD - We are regular visitors to other Brunning Price locations in the area and usually find the food good although it can be dearer than other locations . This time it was a Sunday late afternoon and my wife had ordered a Loin Pork with Roast Potatoes , stuffing and vegetables. Sadly , this meal was ' more about style than substance' with very fatty slices of Pork topped with a 'disc of non descript stuffing ' , a dollop of strange apple sauce and overcooked , dried out roast potatoes and the only decent thing on the plate was a huge piece of crackling . A poor meal for a high Price of £20.95 . My Steak and Ale pie was very 'bland' and it's contents were not up the high standard of previously sampled pies . DRINK We each had a lovely half of Holdens Mild but again 'shocked' at the excessively high price of £2.50 for a half of mild which retails at between £3.50 and £3.80 a pint locally not £5.00 for a pint ! A comfortable dining experience but sadly the quality of the food and cost the real ale does not match our expectations. Can do much better ! NOT RECOMMENDED.

Food 5/5 Service 2/5 Overall 3.5/5 Unfortunately, since half-star ratings aren't an option, I chose to round down to a 3/5. A group of 6 of us visited midweek for a meal & while the food was absolutely fantastic, the service left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, the service was painfully slow & not very attentive. Drinks took too long to arrive, plates sat uncleared for far too long. After finishing our meal, we were left with dirty plates for 40 minutes or so right up until we left. Had the front-of-house been more attentive, we would have ordered more drinks, spent more money & left as much more satisfied customers. The poor service left no desire to pay the service charge. Whilst I appreciate the excellent food, the front-of-house team plays such a huge role in the overall experience & unfortunately, they really let the rest of the team down. I would consider visiting again, but not in a hurry. If the service improves, this place could EASILY be a 5 star experience.

We went for a meal on Sunday evening, not an overly busy evening, waitress service was fairly good, but the time from ordering food to delivery was very slow and unapologetic. Slow to receive a second glass of wine, thought I might finish eating before it arrived. Fish and chips was fantastic except for cold vegetables. My Partners burger and chips was perfectly fine, but very beige, no salad or veg, amount on plate for price was not good at all, veg would have added colour and value. This restaurant needs to be careful that it is not just surviving on initial reputation. We all value our money now and won't be taken for granted!

Went for Sunday lunch with family. My husband and son ordered the duck salad which was £17 for undressed salad, mostly white cabbage and a tiny amount of duck. Roast pork was small and cold. I ordered pate on toast to have as a main, no butter for the freezing cold toast. Asked for butter and was told ‘we don’t serve it with butter’. On the whole, a really unpleasant and expensive experience. If you’re going to continue selling at that price point and are cashing in on location then the quality, warmth of good and service need rapidly improving. Will not recommend and would not return. Has put me off going to any in the same chain.

Went for an evening meal, which was excellent. Unfortunately, even though we happened on a quiet time,(between lunch diners leaving and the evening esters arriving), we were placed on a table near the kitchen. Not a problem initially but half way through the meal I noticed that as staff came through the kitchen door carrying food, they bought a cold draught with them each time. Food range on menu was not as good as it has been, but still a fair choice. What we had was excellent, but prices have gone up a little. Not by much, but enough to notice.

We were staying overnight and had expected that we’d be able to easily get a table. “I might be able to fit you in at 7”. We watched other people being served while we patiently waited for our table while enjoying a drink. Eventually we’re seated, eventually our order was taken. 45 minutes later it arrived, which was very tasty. I felt like giving up when it came to ordering a dessert. Other establishments I’ve visited only accept the people that they can cope with. EG only seat people when they have enough staff to cope. I’ve been to several Brunning and Price over the years and this is the first time I’ve been disappointed. PS. The waiting on staff were run off their feet but still managed to be friendly.

This was the second time I had visited the Mytton and Mermaid having previously been for my farther birthday, and found it all very acceptable, so when we were looking for places to go for lunch for another birthday treat we chose here. We arrived, went in and were shown to our table for four, we sat down and given a few minutes to choose our drinks and food. Drinks order was taken and then we waited and waited and waited some more, it was only when the, what I think was the floor managed caught my annoyed eye that he scurried off and the drink suddenly appears, I can only assume they were left sat on the bar waiting. We ordered our food which seemed to arrive in a normal length of time and was very nice. We finished that, the plates were taken away and desert menus brought over which we looked at and then waited and waited again, to the point we gave up and I went to pay the bill. I saw the same person that finally brought our drinks, who sorted and showed me the bill, “cash or card” I was asked to I replied “card”. He looked to push a load of buttons on the card machine and then held it for me to tap the card, but in such a way to cover the screen which at the time I didn’t question which was poor on my part, nor did I look at the card receipt until days later when I looked at my bank statement, at which point I went back to check, I found that over £10 of gratuity had been added without comment and certainly wouldn’t have paid with the poor service we’d had that day. I hope that this wasn’t why he was covering the screen of the card machine to hide that this charge had been put on, but it does make me think whether I’d go again, which is a shame as the venue is lovely and the food is nice. Always check the receipt is the moral to this one I think.

I have a disabled wife so we parked on the car park in a space that inconvenienced no one yet the parking attendant demanded we move as he deemed it unsafe even after I pointed out that 4 other cars were not in parking bays , but he deemed them safe, absolutely disgusted and he certainly didn’t need to hunt down my wife and say disabled or not he can’t park there. Before calling in at Attingham, we decided to have Sunday lunch here. The dining room areas are beautiful and very elegant with a beautiful library and orangery. The food was equally as nice. I opted for a cheese, onion and potato pie which came with numerous fresh vegetables and gravy. The others in the group had a crispy beef salad which they thoroughly enjoyed. For pudding I had the bread and butter pudding with a twist of fruit and I must admit I prefer traditional b and b pudding. My daughter had a brownie and my husband had the cheesecake. I recently celebrated my 9th wedding anniversary at The Mytton & Mermaid, and it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted by a gentleman and his charming dog, who kindly assisted us with parking close to the entrance, considering my husband's disability. This thoughtful gesture set the tone for the evening. As first-time visitors, we were warmly escorted to the restaurant, where we were promptly seated at a table in a picturesque setting. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable dining experience. The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the delicious steak and steak burger, which were cooked to perfection. And let's not forget the heavenly chocolate brownie dessert—it was simply divine. What truly made our anniversary unforgettable was the impeccable service tailored to accommodate my husband's needs as a wheelchair user with cognitive challenges. Every detail was carefully considered, making us feel truly valued and welcomed. I wholeheartedly recommend The Mytton & Mermaid to anyone seeking a top-notch dining experience. We are already looking forward to returning.

We went here for a late Easter lunch and though it was very busy we got our table exactly as per our booked time at 4pm. I had seen the menu beforehand and was very excited to see a variety of #Gluten Free options. I had decided to go for the braised shoulder of lamb. Me and my friend were apprehensive about how Tender the lamb would be but decided to go for it, as she and her hubby had eaten a few good meals there. Even though the menu said the dish was GF, the server got me an allergy menu to make sure. When the lamb was served, it was beautifully cooked and falling off the bone. It had a lot of tender fat which I loved. We thought we would need a side of Vegies but didn't eat them as the plate had enough vegies! We asked for a Mint sauce which was given to us in the bottle and so we could see the ingredients and was happy to see Tackleman's was a Gluten Free mint sauce which went really well with the lamb and ideally should have just been served with the lamb by default. The service was excellent as was the extensive drinks menu. They had an entire booklet with various types of Gin! Definitely highly recommend Myton and Mermaid and the best part is it is Dog friendly so bring your pooch along to the bar🐕

So disappointed with our evening meal last night. Having had a couple of good business breakfasts here our evening experience was vastly underwhelming. I was served possibly the worst rib eye steak I’ve ever had. On complaining to the waitress we were not charged for my main meal. I had the crab starter which was served on a barely toasted full sized crumpet, this certainly did nothing to enhance the crab. Sweet was a run of the mill chocolate brownie. It was such a shame as every effort has been made to return the Mytton to an environment you’d like to dine in, and I would recommend the breakfast menu especially if you have clients to meet with early morning. Sadly I doubt we’d return for another evening dining experience, and would agree with another of the google reviews that perhaps too many choices on the menu may have led to a quality sacrifice, sometimes less is more.

This is our first time attending since the refurb. It was our 9th Wedding anniversary so wanted a nice meal in a lovely setting. The setting and ambience were lovely, it felt a nice place to come for a meal and a special occasion. My wife had the lamb and it was stunning, she loved it and I was envious. I had the ribeye steak, it was nice 7/10, for 29.99 I expected more, it was cooked well (medium rare) and it was tender, but it lacked flavour. The service is where you fell down, it was worse than what I have received at a harvester or wetherspoons. My wife had to ask for someone to come and take our order, then the food and drink came in reasonable time. We were then asked if we wanted the dessert menu, which we did, they were received promptly. Then the wait happened, in total we waited c25 mins with out ordering or with out a drink. In the end my wife again had to get someone to come to our table for which we requested the bill. 10 mins later we had to ask someone to pay. We then left and drove into Shrewsbury town centre, we parked up, walked to the armoury and ordered our dessert and coffee in under 25 mins. It took less time to do all that than the time we had waited at your establishment to order desserts. Overall your dining service is a mess, staff do not seem how to multi task or you need more staff and a better strategy. For the price point you set, improvement is needed to justify it.

Sad to say, this place did not live up to expectations. It very much feels they have gone for quantity over quality, which is such a waste of a very beautiful building and location. Positives were booking was very easy using the online system. It was easy to find, and we didn't struggle with parking like so many others have. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweighed the positives. To start, there is no front of house, you have to just hang around the bar and hope to catch a member of staff to seat you. The staff were friendly, but far too over worked to provide a good level of service. We were largely ignored during the whole service, with empty glasses on our table for 20-30 mins at a time. Starters came quickly, but the wait for mains was over an hour from being seated, with no one checking in with us or seeing if we needed any drinks. The crispy squid was mostly just crispy bits of batter from the bottom of the fryer, although the spicy mango sauce was nice. The food was average at best. The smoked haddock was disappointing due to a poorly seasoned sauce and serious lack of mussels, there was literally only 2 tiny mussels on the plate despite it being listed as the second ingredient on the menu - please look at my pictures to see what I mean, they were approx 1cm each. Food lacked flavour and felt thrown together. The lamb was a good portion size, but the potato side was odd and lumpy. I feel this place is too large to provide the service you would expect in such a grand building. The dining rooms are huge, but it feels more like a canteen than a quality restaurant with how close the tables are squeezed together. Desert was disappointing with an unclear menu. They advertise a mini pudding with a choice of listed hot drinks for a set price, but when we tried to order Irish coffees (which were on the list), we were told their would be an additional charge, even though this was not highlighted or stated on the menu. I usually find the positives in most places - feel free to check my other reviews to confirm this - but I have struggled here, and won't be in any rush to return any time soon.

I thought food a service was fantastic, I changed the guest numbers from 6 to 8 just half an hour before I got there. Everyone in the party was very happy.

At short notice we called in at the Mytton om 25/02/24 at17:00 and managed to get a table. Enjoyed a couple of drinks and ordered our meal, Roast Belly Pork. Meal arrived , good service the belly pork was excellent along with the accompanying vegetables, the one thing that disappointed us that there was no crackling with the pork only to our surprise some pork scratchings out of a packet, very disappointing. If there is no real, hot crackling do not serve cold pork scratchings. As for dessert they gave us the menus buy never came back to take the order. Just paid and left.

Popped in for breakfast. Such a beautiful building. Staff were warm and friendly. The only jibe on our table was that there could have been more baked beans.

Lovely wedding venue. Can't comment on rooms as we've not used the hotel only the restaurant. Location is right opposite Attingham park NT property. Not much else locally so a car would be useful.

Room was stunning. Had a huge shower. Shame it wasn't over a bath. Service in the restaurant was efficient even with a full restaurant of customers. Great location on the outskirts of Shrewsbury. Limited parking spaces available.

Good hotel to stay for locality and town centre, only one minor hiccup and that was there was a bit of a wait for breakfast, but as stated, it was only minor

Normally service at the Wynnstay hotel restaurant is pretty good. It can hardly be judged satisfactory, however, if one orders Soup and Omelette and they are served at the same time!
