Great 16th century pub. The room was excellent, the shower was nice and powerful. Large choice of cereal as well as a nice cooked breakfast.

A traditional, English Inn. The food was delicious, and exceptionally good value for money. I had a 10 oz steak with all the trimmings and it was less than £20. The steak was really good quality, and very locally sourced. The local ale, in my case a half of mild, was also really great. The only thing I didn't like was that the smell from the air freshener or pot pourri was a bit overpowering.

Super quaint little country pub style hotel. The staff are lovely, from check in until we left the staff can't do enough and are super smiley. The building is historic and the rooms are really bright and clean. Nice little touches like little toiletries in the room. Evening meal and breakfast were good and the prices are really competitive. Shout out to the manager and staff who had to deal with quite possibly the rudest person who was aggressive and abusive because he couldn't get his own way. Really lovely little place and we will definitely stay again. Thanks for a great stay

The pub is very old,so it was a creaky building. Also, the extractor fan in the toilet was really noisy and didn't stop for 25 minutes. The food was fine and the service was good. I would recommend "The Talbot Hall, maybe not room 4. Daughters had a good night sleep in their room.

The room wasn’t attractive, it didn’t look fresh and welcoming, it had been given a basic clean. Part of the ceiling had plaster work where I assume there had been a leak. There were several dirty, dusty old cobwebs hanging down from the ceiling. There was mold in the shower and on the windows. The lampshade had a big stain on it. However we found the beds comfortable. We knew we had to pay extra for breakfast, which wasn't a problem. On arrival the woman who checked us in asked if we wanted breakfast but informed us we had to pay £6.95 upfront. There was no menu available to know what breakfast consisted of, we had to ask to find out. We found the cooked breakfast fine, nothing special and in our experience, not 'very good' as a lot of reviews state. The continental breakfast was buffet style and pathetic. Each cereal packet had barely enough to make one serving and as the cereal was the last of the packets, they were far from appetising. In the fruit bowl all the tangerines had soft, wet patches where they were starting to become moldy. Coffee and tea were sachets with a flask of hot water. The information in the room gave the impression the chefs and cuisine were of a high standard, sadly our breakfast experience did not live up to that. Car parking was difficult, parking spaces in front of the hotel and in the public car park behind were invariably full. We had to wait until a space became available, on both evenings. Information in the room read that they were a small team working hard, they prided themselves on their reputation, they'd appreciate it if we spoke to them if there was anything not to our satisfaction. I did not speak to anyone as I found it very difficult to believe this statement, I saw absolutely no evidence of pride or hard work when everything was of such a low standard, which the staff appeared to be content to proffer. I notice a review from September 2023 written by someone who also stayed in Room 6, and sadly there has been absolutely no attempt to rectify the horrors this reviewer had found. Sadly for us, unlike this reviewer who got a full refund we were not so lucky. On my return I emailed the head office of South Coast Inns, the group the Talbot belongs to, but received no reply. I think that says it all!

Don’t bother staying on a Saturday night if you need any sleep, staying due to work and had Karaoke all night so loud you can’t hear Tv, really need some sound deadening if your going to call yourself a hotel and tell people upfront before they book. Front of building lit up lovely which lights up the rooms great, probably some black out blinds would be nice. lead to believe breakfast was included in the price, only to be told it’s extra for cooked breakfast, continentals included, was not mentioned when booking. I’ll stick with premier inn, at least you get a peaceful nights sleep.

The hotel and rooms are just fantastic and everything was really nicely put together and really clean. Felt very safe with the COVID-19 restrictions and the safety measures put in place. If you are ever up this part of the country, the Talbot Hotel is a place to stay and visit!

Recently my parents booked to stay at this hotel to celebrate my Dad's 80th Birthday. I contacted the hotel to see if they would be able to put a cake in their room. Not only did they bake the cake themselves , they also added balloons and banners and a bottle of Prosecco. We live in the US and so we were able to What's App with my Dad and sing happy birthday and "share" the cake with them. Katie and Rosie went out of their way to make this occasion so special when we could not be together. I would not hesitate to recommend this special place.

Yes found it a place where people are made welcome from the moment you walk through the door! Under New management great couple work their socks off to make you welcome even if you just want a Pint. Open fire, No TV!...but Music from every era playing in the background. So looked at menu and found food ideal for us all...even had a takeaway pie as a souvenir! Gosh, it was fun and enjoyable. Now on our Radar for many more visits Big free car back at rear of Hotel. Limited Menu but very good food value for money. I Likey!

Eight of us dined here for lunch - our first visit since the new owners took over recently. Seven of us opted for the Golden Years menu which, at £6.95 for a main meal and dessert, was excellent value. All the meals were thoroughly enjoyed. I had a granary banquette with Tuna & Mayonnaise with a salad garnish and crisps which was very tasty. The bread was lovely and soft. All seven desserts (mainly Apple Pies) were delicious. The interior of the hotel is very cosy and welcoming. All in all, a very enjoyable lunch - food excellent, reasonably priced menu and the owners made us feel very welcome. As we dine out as a group regularly on a Wednesday, this venue will certainly be on our “to visit again list”.

Popped in for lunch on the off chance. Wow, what a great surprise! New management and a real breath of fresh air. Great atmosphere, good food and a really warm welcome. Only had a sandwich and chips this time but will definitely be back soon. Little touches, fresh hand sliced bread and real butter on well filled sandwiches. Spotlessly clean and a roaring fire. What more can you ask for. If you haven't been recently, go and try it. You won't be disappointed.

Although The Talbot is easy to find, situated right on the High Street, parking immediately outside the front is limited. Reception informed us of free parking to the rear of the Inn. Staff are friendly and helpful. Bed was really comfy with allergy-free duvets and pillows. Could have done with a bedside lamp. The second twin bed did not have either a bedside table nor a lamp. No wardrobe but a few hangers on pegs on the wall. Ensuite bathroom modern and adequately equipped, however there was no hot water for the second person to shower ! Full English breakfast was well cooked with the best bacon ever ! At £79 per twin room per night its not a bargain. The ancient inn is cosy and seemingly well frequented by charming and friendly locals. Dinner menu wasn't great - we went to one of the Indian restaurants instead (having listened to a local's recommendation).

We attended my grand daughters first birthday as they live in the village, my wife and I decided to stay here, The Talbot was a perfect choice, Our room number 1 was very clean and presentable, The craft beer Twisted spire is a great beer to relax with, The morning after, Breakfast was cooked beautifully, we found all staff and regulars to be very friendly, we had to go out for dinner as they did not serve food late on, butthere were plenty of eateries in the area, the bed was so comfy we didn't want to get up, we will be staying more often when we visted our grand children

I was working locally, from Ludlow had no idea where to pop in for a quick drink after work. I was served by a lovely young lady called Rachel, her bar skills were brilliant and she was very attentive to my order, I can be an awkward customer to serve but I felt obligated to leave a positive review as after a hard labouring day a cheerful pint and good custom is very well needed.

Called in on a Monday 20% off main meals which weren’t expensive to start with. Nice clean pub with separate dining area. Had fish n chips, fish nicely cooked, a shame the chips weren’t homemade but for the price wasn’t unexpected. Other half had the mini burgers, a trio of different toppings which he enjoyed.

We arrived for our 12:30 booking to be shown our table that was in a draughty corridor, near the toilets. We had booked a table for 5 and they had laid two small round tables squashed together. Couldn't believe they really expected us to sit there. We had our elderly mother with us and the table ( if you could even call it that) was wholly unsuitable. We asked to change/see the manger and were told by him that nothing else was available as they were fully booked. Frankly they shouldn't have taken so many bookings and expect their guests to have what is supposed to be a family Christmas occasion in a corridor. We left. I called to Wynstay in Oswestry, secured a table and we had the most wonderful and beautiful roast dinner at a lovely table at the Wynstay. In the end this cloud had a very big silver lining. The Wynstay is now the place we will go for family dinners in the area when visiting family and the Old Boot has got the boot!

I stayed at this hotel with a colleague from my company. My company paid for everything. This colleague acted like he was wealthy because he paid for unlimited drinks and meals with the company’s money, but he’s nothing more than an arrogant, single old man. He was always drunk and made stupid jokes with the hotel staff, who remained polite and tried to humor him, making him feel funny with his ridiculous behavior. I apologize to the hotel staff for his behavior.
