An amazing pub! Fantastic atmosphere, amazing service and incredible Joule's Ales...Coby and his staff go the extra mile to make you feel welcome! The music nights and the quiz night are brilliant! The Dolphin is an amazing local pub! Fantastic tasty food is provided by Feast by Liam Tinsley. The Dolphin is truly a gem of a pub! Highly recommended!

We really enjoy our evenings in The Dolphin - wether that be for the fortnightly quiz (we won once which was nothing short of a minor miracle!) or Jam nights (I don’t sing or play an instrument in public but you can’t help joining in as it’s such a relaxed atmosphere) or just for a drink and now recently amazing food prepared by Liam Tinsley aka “Feast” Coby the landlord (with Ed) is superb and Joules are lucky to have him representing their brand. We’ve met some lovely friendly people here too who have become friends. Take a bow Coby you star! 🙇🙇‍♂️🙇‍♂️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What a wonderful pub and location! This is a little gem of a place. Steve who was waiting on in the evening could not do more for the customers and was really attentive and amiable. I ate a starter portion of mussels and chips and Steve brought extra bread for the sauce without asking! This was ample for me as a main course and so tasty. Extremely attractive interior and everyone super friendly. To top it off there is a beautiful canal walk to the rear of the car park and Dawn is happy for you to stay in a camper in the car park for free if you pop in for a drink/food. Highly recommend. Will definitely be back

Oh joyous day! Laus Deo! Exultate omnes! Hail thee festival day! We managed to get a table at this wonderful institution on the first day of reopening! Sitting out in the sun with some lovely Joules pints (our first since Xmas!) served by the ever welcoming and elegantly glamorous waistcoated Coby! Oh joy, oh rapture unforseen! The world is now at peace..

Great landlord friendly and inviting

Really nice proper pub, we were just passing through Shrewsbury and planned to stop for food but got caught up in some horrible Friday evening traffic and stumbled across the pub. The chap behind the bar kindly found some space for us and our 2 ravenous children, we had some really delicious American style deli sandwiches, filled with meats so they were good value! I could have quite happily stayed for a few pints here but unfortunately the road called.

Looks a little rough and ready from the front, but lovely old interiors inside. Food was really good!

Lovely pub, friendly helpful staff, and the live in, Press De Cuba restaurant food was banging I know they aren't the same business but can't say enough good about it.

Very nice local pub, good drinks and staff and atmosphere are always great. The food is also brilliant. Little pricey but great quality. They've recently started doing takeaway on Just Eat. Order was ready on time, very good, and virtually all recyclable packaging which is a nice touch.

Lovely food, lovely drink, lovely atmosphere

Quite pleasant, The Dolphin, like other Joules pubs. Not far to walk from the town centre but a bit tricky to park. Excellent beers and Green Monkey lager. The annual Carol Service with the Shrewsbury Brass Band is great fun but very crowded. Food offerings seem to have improved over recent years.

Fantastic Cuban food. Group of 6, we all enjoyed it. Good beer, definitely worth a short walk from town centre.

Cracking proper local. One of the last of the breed. Called in on a visit to Shrewsbury on quiz night. Excellent Cuban food. Great beer. Friendly people. Log fire. Dog friendly. Outside deck for a smoke. Brilliant craic. A true find. NOTE - they only do food Thursday to Saturday.

We initially came here because we looked online and saw that it was dog friendly. So we visited when camping nearby and spent a lovely evening at the dolphin. The drinks are v reasonably priced, the bar staff so attentive, the atmosphere was lovely and our dog was made very welcome! We ordered some food and though the kitchen was busy, when the food came it was absolutely gorgeous. I would highly recommend this pub, the staff really made us feel welcome and we will definitely be back!

Fantastic little pub with Cuban inspired menu. Dog friendly and popular with locals.

We searched online and found this gem. Warm welcome from Coby the Manager and a nice pint of Green Monkey lager. Press de Cuba cook the food which is ordered via a QR code on the table and payment made on their secure web page. We ordered La Tampa and El Jefe. The food arrived piping hot and tasted incredible. Well worth a visit and we will certainly return when we are next in the area.

Enjoyed our experience at The Dolphin on Saturday afternoon. Friendly and efficient service with a "proper pub" feel. The Cuban food was amazing! Spicy, fresh and hot and interesting options. Well worth the walk out of town. Will be visiting again.

Excellent Cuban sandwiches, full of flavour and very affordable. There is also a good selection on offer. Only negative would be the location as some of the tables were not fit for purpose (shaky) and the decor is dated. I do not feel that it would be fair to reflect that within the stars applied to this review as I believe the pub is a separate establishment.

I kid you not, ran out of bread. Rookie error, its freezable. (Some excuse about freshness incoming) Rocked up with the family, 5 adults, 2 kids. To hear the disappointing news, we'd already ordered a round of drink so decided to order what we could, mostly fries. I get to the bar only to be told to use the app. We couldn't be bothered If the staff couldn't either. We sat and watched couples and family also walk out. In the highly competitive hospitality watching £££ walk out the door will lead to closure. We decided to order pizza for delivery and walked home. And another thing, its Cuban themed, so why are they playing soul music? Get some rumba pumping.. I'll try again in 6 months.

Came in for food and drinks with friends. Had a lovely time and food was good. However, when I got up to leave I noticed my trousers were covered in white and brown dog hairs. (I do not own a dog). Also, my friend suffers with allergies, she started to get itchy eyes and blocked nose. We was on table 20. After I got up I could also see hairs all stuck on the cushions which we sitting on. The circumstance could’ve been a lot worst if her allergies were more severe. I think dogs shouldn’t be on the sofas where people eat and drink. Overall, we had a lovely time just that one downfall.

Great place, had an excellent pint of Joules ale and an exceptional hot Cuban sandwich loaded with meat, accompanied by very good fries, nice friendly bar service, cosy traditional setting, I’m coming back, I totally recommend this pub.

Food was fantastic. Small menu, but they have a signature and they do it really well. We arrived at a really busy time but the guy from the kitchen let us know that he was getting to our order and was apologetic when it arrived...it wasn't very long anyway but seeing and smelling the other food definitely made us hungry! Really friendly staff, both behind the bar and at the table. Lively and busy pub with our dog welcome. Good selection of beers too. Great system for ordering food from the table - simple and quick. Would definitely recommend.

The Joules beer was poor. Was expecting a wider Cuban menu but the hot pork sandwich was very good. Decent fries as well.

I used The Dolphin Inn for the first time on Saturday when visiting Shrewsbury. The Friendly bar staff made me feel welcome and at home as soon as I walked through the door. Great selection of draught beer. I will definitely return.

Amazing food amazing staff always smiles and warm welcomes

Despite living only 5 minutes from this little gem myself and my wife only started visting about 6 months ago. This is a proper old pub fantastic food, lovely log fire and very friendly staff a perfect little pub to spend ur evenings or weekends. Highly recommended

Went to the Dolphin with some friends for a few beers and some food. I have coeliac disease and prior to going I checked the menu but there wasn’t anything specific about gluten free food. The menu was Cuban, centred mostly around Cuban style subs and fries, so I was fully prepared to just be watching my friends eat and be getting something back home at the end of the night! On arrival I spoke to the manager who immediately went through the menu with me and then grabbed a chef who sat me down and said that whilst they weren’t a completely gluten free kitchen (nowhere is...) they would do everything they could to accommodate me, even going into detail about how they would clean down the surfaces and equipment between doing my food and the others. Next, the head chef came out and did exactly the same - tons of detail about what they would cook for me and how they would do it, going way way over and above anything I’ve ever experienced. And I didn’t even ask for it!!! I ordered one of the sandwiches which came on an incredible gluten free panini with a tub of fries (which are all cooked away from other products). I was blown away, the food was incredible. It sounds ridiculous to people who can eat what they like, but having a toasted sandwich in a pub over a (gf) beer is something I haven’t been able to do for a very long time! Absolute heaven... Highly recommend this place; the staff are absolutely fantastic, the food and drink is really tasty and the pub itself is a cracking example of a traditional style pub done well. Will 100% be going back there regularly. Thanks to all at the Dolphin!!

Fab food by Press De Cuba and friendly atmosphere

We’ve been coming to The Dolphin for years and it gets better year on year. The manager Coby is always so welcoming and gives five star service. We were slightly dubious when the menu changed as we loved the previous food but the Cuban street food by Press De Cuba is incredible! My partner loves the ales on tab, particularly the Joules Pale which he consistently praises. Great atmosphere all round and for such a cosy little place they have nailed the social distancing without damaging the atmosphere.

It's a pub selling over priced subs , no apology from manager for making us walking all the way out to a dimmly lite pub in the back of Shrewsbury . When we phoned we were under the impression that things had not changed and the food was excellent and all the reviews on TripAdvisor were true things have changed big time don't waste your time coming all the way out here for nothing Feeling very disappointed and annoyed.

A different experience of trying Cuban food , which was outstanding. The guys who run it were very friendly. Would recommend.

First visit post lockdown! Thankyou for making it a very welcome and comfortable return. Through the side entrance, round the back and out through the front....simple but effective. Table booking was easy as per, and the choices of drinks were second to none as always. Coby & the team have done a great job of safely getting Our Dolphin back open for business. Was lovely to be back, keep up the great work all! We can’t wait to see Press de Cuba with you too.

Had read reviews and been recommended and so tried out one night in the week. Limited menu but exciting and different. Was excellent quality and tasty. I hope things going ok for this traditional pub with a quirk now lockdown easing. I will try out again soon

Ended up here by default and so pleased we did. Lovely pub with friendly welcoming staff. Warm welcome and open fire with great selection of beers. Menu is limited to fried chicken (in 5ish various styles)or fried vegetarian alternative with selection of sides. But when done this well I don’t care there is not as much choice as other places. We had two types of chicken and two kinds of loaded fries and all was fantastic. Chilled relaxed evening. Reminded me of a ruin bar in Budapest. Definitely going back ( choice of music also excellent).

Updated menu with a first come first serve walk in re tables. Love it! The fried vegan chicken or chicken with the various flavours is immense and the fries & sides are just perfect. Really great meal with my other half and Mum, aswell as the usual great drinks. Brilliant menu change and policy re table reservation, welcomed by a regular local!

A cool modern pub with good drink choices and seating out the back. Worth looking out for when their next "take over" is, as their street food has been great. Quiz night is always a good turnout too.

Foods amazing, good vegan food too,lovely friendly pub

Went in for one and ended up staying for another 6. Great atmosphere and amazing food. But the best thing about the place is the staff. That chap in the waistcoat always has a chat with you and makes you feel welcome. Definitely going to be coming here more often.

Been here a few times now and am still impressed with the food, we love the KFC and their take on fries, all very delicious and creative, have yet to explore all the menu items as they all sound very delicious, my only gripe is the 45 minute wait for our food to come last time we were there, otherwise top marks guys.

Well what can I say, this place is literally unique!! We stayed at a hotel near by where we were very unimpressed by the food. So we came to trip advisor and found this little gem! Bar staff so warm and welcoming, food what we didn't expect yet so lovely and tasty and to put the cherry on top, we had cocktails made to order!! If we are ever in the area we will most definitely be back. Keep doing what you are doing, BRILL!!

Lovely atmosphere and great food.

Visited the Dolphin for Burger Sunday and the place delivered top qaulity, friendly staff, amazing food and an excellent atmosphere. Will definitely visit again!
