On Holiday in Berrynarbour. Lovely place. I had looked online at the Ye Olde Goble and was interested to see such a pub with a history. I was impressed with how the interior had been kept to its original style and not upgraded to a chain pub. The food looked good so we decided to have a drink before ordering food. I stood at the bar for 5 minutes before being acknowledged and my order taken. I was the only customer at the bar but the staff were busy with I assumed other things. Now I am up for rustic charm but the charm of the dog hair in my beer and some other unidentifiable flotsam in my beer put me off 1: Finishing my beer. 2: Ordering meals. Now I really at the time should spoken to the staff and made them aware but I couldn’t be bothered as after the wait to get served had already marked the Ye Olde Golbe down. When returning to the area we will return as is a nice pub and this may have been a One off.

Was in the area so thought I’d give the Local pub a go And I’m so glad we did walked in and was greeted by the lovely bar staff, very smiley and very welcoming. It happened to be a Mexican themed night on our arrival and the food was spot-on. Would definitely recommend the globe if you’re in the area

I have been on holiday in the area for the past week and dined at Ye Olde Globe three times. it’s a beautiful pub with the most amazing pub dog called Gizmo! The food was exceptional, we had the T Bone sharer twice and the mexican menu. I would definitely recommend visiting Ye Olde Globe, the bar staff are friendly and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there.

Berrynarbor Village is absolutely beautiful and well worth a visit. As we were exploring while holidaying locally we thought we would visit Ye Olde Globe for lunch. However the person at the bar said no daytime food was available. We thought we would still buy a drink as we were there - is £12.60 for 3 small glasses of coke the going rate? That's what we paid - didn't bother getting a second round in!!

We have been visiting Berrynarbour since 2016 staying at a nearby touring site and a visit to Ye Old Globe was always a must . This visit was such a disappointment. Upon arrival no warm welcome and the man serving couldn’t have been more unwelcoming if he tried. We bought our drinks and we were joined by the landlady’s young daughter who proceeded to climb over my husband and myself ( her mother called out for her but didn’t bother to check where she was) I had to go to the bar and ask if someone could take her, to which a young lady took her away. We wanted to order food but we were told it was chef’s night off. Come on guys please welcome your guests and don’t let your children climb over your customers.

We booked this place on a recommendation, unfortunately we were very disappointed when we got there, the selection of food was very limited and really didn’t cater for everyone’s taste, the only thing my son could eat was the curry and that was reluctantly, the remainder of the party had the steak which we were disappointed i, it was full of gristle, the mushrooms were cold, i think it was rude of bar staff to be vaping behind the bar especially as people were eating. Would i recommend no I wouldn’t, would i go back no.

Family visit for a meal. My wife booked the table & I have to say I was sceptical, all the reviews I read are extremely negative, but she informed me they had new management & she wanted to try it. With us was our son who is a chef and has worked in everything from professional grill restaurants to fine Michelin dining establishments. I have to say all three of us were more than satisfied with the service & food we experienced. We were running late (sorry) so we phoned to say we would be half an hour late. The person we spoke to on the phone was polite, understanding & said this would not be a problem. On arrival we were greeted in a friendly, welcoming manner & we’re shown to a table reserved with our name on it. We ordered Steak (rare), garlic bread, scallops, & fish & chips. The steak came with fries, onion rings, garlic mushrooms & peas. It was cooked to perfection, rare & rested, and was so tender it could have been cut with a butter knife. Onion rings & fries were crispy and didn’t leave me with a plate of oil. The scallops were nicely seasoned & caramelised on the outside, whilst retaining their bouncy fleshy interior, my wife said they are some of the best she has had in a long time. As for the fish & chips, the batter was crispy, not oily & the fish was soft and flakey. It came with minted crushed peas which had a great balance between the pea & mint flavours, all too often the mint flavour masks the taste of the peas but not here it didn’t. All of us agreed you couldn’t fault the food. Our only criticism is a very minor one, & that is condiments come in sachets & you have to specifically ask for what you would like. If sachets are to be used it would have been better if a small dish was pre-placed on the table to enable diners to help themselves. Despite living in Barnstaple, this is the first time we have visited this lovely village inn, but it won’t be our last. We’re just glad its rural hidden location makes it unlikely to be discovered by hoards of tourists in the summer. If you do find it we highly recommend a visit.

We went for a birthday dinner. There were 9 of us and we put on a table that really was not comfortable or practical. Having then moved into another room we had our meal. There was a wait between food coming out the steaks were cooked wrong. The quality of the food does not reflect the price. 17 pound for frozen fried fishcakes is just not acceptable. Having ordered deserts it took 40 minutes. They did not have what was on the menu the chocolate brownie was so dry and again 8 pound for ready made puddings is a joke. The behaviour of staff was really unprofessional messing around by the kitchen door whilst we were trying to eat. And you can not shut the toilet doors. Very very disappointed for the price I would have expected much better quality.

Really overpriced for low quality meals. £16 for 3 burnt sliders and oven chips. £14 for supermarket ham, 2 eggs and the same over chips. £16 for fish cakes far less tasty than those at Aldi. Odd vibe with different staff drinking and going in and out of kitchen. Same with some kids who seemed to be staff children. Really disappointing and left almost £200 lighter.

Ok, having bought a place nearby, I have been in the Globe a few times (very often with my dog) and also for dinner with my wife. Last time we eat their food was good. My wife commented on how good the fish and chips were: a large fish with a light batter and hand cut chips. I went in for a couple of pints with my dog and as usual the staff were superb, even giving my dog some treats! On a Monday evening, many places for takeaway food, locally, are closed and my wife had a whim for fish and chips, so not to disappoint her, and because she had praised them so highly last time she had them, I asked the bar staff if they did takeaway. They could not have been more accommodating. I paid for my pint along with the 2 takeaway fish, chips and peas. What a disappointment! Frozen chips, over microwaved frozen peas, but, to be fair the fish was lovely (if very small). What wasn’t lovely was the price! I was charged £38.70 for a pint of Fox ale (superb) and the 2 takeaway meals. That makes the meals £17 each!!!!!! To be fair, I hadn’t quite heard what I was being charged as I didn’t hear him and just tapped my card. It wasn’t until I checked my bank account that I realised how much I had been charged. If the fish had been larger, the chips hand cut from fresh potatoes, and the peas not over cooked I wouldn’t have minded so much but really? £34 for 2 fish and chips? My wife left the chips and peas. She went from looking forward to a treat, to being very disappointed when she opened the box and wouldn’t believe that I’d had them from the Globe until I showed her my bank account. The price left her incredulous. And damned annoyed with me for paying so much for something that fell well short of mediocre. I love the Globe: the beer is good, the atmosphere is good and the staff are great. Meals in are great. BUT I couldn’t recommend it based on this experience, which was a very expensive lesson learned.

We are on holiday in Devon and before going out for lunch in an area we haven’t been before I always research on trip advisor first. The reviews were really good and thought we were going to have a really good lunch. Berrynarbor is a beautiful village and the pub was great. We were the only ones in there that was not a good sign for a lunch time. We were told they were not doing a traditional Sunday lunch so we ordered off the blackboard which was limited for choice. We ordered 2steak stir fries and 1 cheese burger. The stir fries were tasty but they were the size of a children's portion. The burger came with chips 4 limp lettuce leaves that looked as though they were left over from the night before 2 slices of tomato full marks to be able to cut them so thin and some tiny bits of onion. Worst of all the burger had the cheapest slice of cheese that you get in the value packet of 10 cheese slices at the supermarket. Then put under the grill and burnt black. I was offered to order something else but by that time the 2 small stir fries had been eaten. I was given a refund of my meal. But what a huge disappointment!! All 3 of us left hungry. No wonder they are advertising for a chef.

Despite COVID an excellent evening out. Great food, exceptionally good service. Only thing that could be mention in menu was on the small side (number of dishes). Reasonable value for money as well

A lovely country pub serving very good food at affordable prices - what else could you ask for? We went there from nearby Combe Martin and enjoyed a great night with our dog (she loved their doggie ice cream!). In addition to the usual range of pub meals there was a good selection of vegetarian food (for my wife). In addition, on the evening we went, there was a Thai red curry special on the menu. That was my choice and it was the best Thai red curry I have tasted - EVER! A very memorable visit and such a pity that we couldn’t have gone there for another meal (we had pre-booked all our evening meals for our short 4 day break). However, the Olde Globe will remain in my memory for its outstanding Thai curry.

Booked for dinner on holiday. Lovely pub with a lot of history in the building. Nice choice of food and drink and friendly staff. Highly recommend the trio of steaks if you're hungry. Was very nice and lots of food on the plate. My wife had fish and chips which was also very nice. Will call back again.

This pub is well worth visiting for a meal although we only got chance to go once during our short stay in Combe Martin. It’s only a 5 minute drive from CM..possibly walking distance in the Summer. There were about 6 very interesting specials as well as a lengthy more standard pub meal menu. Very nicely presented fish dishes which were gorgeous. It’s a busy place so you do need to book. The village of Berrynarbour is very pretty and there must be some lovely local walks if you have time. Would definitely recommend.

From ordering our food we waited over an hour for it to come out, service was shocking and staff seemed more interested in talking to locals. Food was really disappointing and overpriced. This could be such a lovely pub but we won’t visit again next time we are in the area, there are much better places close by.

Extremely welcoming and engaging staff who were able to offer us a table even though we hadn’t booked. Food was really good and served quickly, while both it and the drinks were reasonably priced.Would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area to pay the Ye Olde Globe a visit!!

Much needed watering hole after walking from Woolton Barnscott over hill over dale, (advice stick to roads). Lovely olde worlde pub in heart of Berrynarbour. Had a couple of drinks then decided to have some food, although fully booked for evening meals the landlord fit us in. Starters and mains and a couple of drinks £55. You won’t need to eat for a while portion sizes are generous. T’other half had falafel and then the rump steak with the cheese sauce (to die for), I had the garlic mushrooms and then homemade lasagne. Really lovely home cooked food and very amenable and pleasant staff. Then we walked back

We ate here three times during our stay in Berrynarbor and the food was excellent on every occasion, well cooked, delicious, good portions and good value. The landlord and staff were all very friendly and helpful (thanks especially to Kelsey who really looked after us and helped keep my plate salad free). The pub is very dog friendly too and has a lovely quiet beer garden.

We visited Ye Olde Globe several times during our recent stay in Berrynarbor and ate here twice to enjoy traditional cooked pub meals. We enjoyed drinks outside in the sunshine in the garden and a friendly welcome from all the staff. We would love to have this pub as our local and hope this old pubs stays for many more years to come.

Fell across this pub, it is an old county pub full of charm and character. Coping well with COVID-19 restrictions. Staff very friendly and eager to help. Food was very tasty and filling. Would go there again. Have to pre-book at the moment to ensure a table, tried to ring but could not get through, had to pop in and book.

Our first meal out of our stay locally in Berrynarbor. Booked in advance which was necessary and glad we did. Service with a smile. Ordered the linguine and lasagne. Both were great and plentiful. A bit OTT on the cheese on the lasagne but that was just cast aside. Puddings of fudge cake and spotted dick were very yummy too. All round good value. The pub itself is also very old with a brief history at the door. Covid protocols well followed despite the fact it's an old building so not spacious like modern pubs. Highly recommend!

Very helpful and a lovely pub - it would be even more so if these restrictions were not in place. Despite a heavy booking for the evening, the staff were very helpful and served some thirsty customers with beers (and chips) to keep us going!

What a gem of a find. Lovely quirky little pub. My wife is a coeliac, and most of the main courses on the menu were gluten free. Delicious food, very friendly staff. We had the added bonus that the local folk band were practicing, so great food, nice chilled music & lovely surroundings. Definitely a 10/10.

Bad first (not that bad ..😆) A bit old and dated, dispite the newish tile panelling Batter was nice but a little oily on the fish (soaked into the batter) The good.. HUGE battered fish - (suggest you just get the small one) cooked perfectly Sirloin steak was tender and cooked perfectly (ordered medium) I was pleasantly surprised on the quality, as it's a basic takeaway with a restaurant attached and it was under £20, so no top steak restaurant - but kudos to the chef, best £20 steak I've had, and better than some classier $$$$ places I've been, For that £20 I also got onion rings (perfect), salad - quality greens, few cut up bits of capsicum a couple of mushrooms, tomato, fried tomato too and plenty of chips cooked perfectly and very nice. (but best chips in UK I've had is at Lochgilphead - Scotland) Constructive criticism only - I was VERY happy given the price, Way better than a lot of places I've been to so far in the UK, and would definitely eat the same dishes again. Staff were friendly... This is at the end of the tourist season too. (Oct'24)

Me & my partner came here on 5/9/24 on a very rainy day. We both grabbed a little drink and a treat here and relaxed in the lovely cafe after a long wet walk from Croyde bay. The staff here were wonderful and all really lovely! The millionaires shortbread was the best I’ve ever had and the cheesy chips were delicious! There is a wide variety of drinks to choose from, both hot and cold. Really lovely vibes and will definitely come here again!

Location wise excellent. Unfortunately, this tired old looking pub has definitely seen better days! Need of major investment, but it would definitely be worth it. Years ago, this pub was full of customers all of the time.

One of the best Sunday carveries that we have experienced, with a wide range of vegetables & meat; welcoming staff, especially Kim & Wendy, nothing was too much bother
