awesome place, fabulous food, dog friendly, kid friendly and a hugely warm welcome from the staff. cannot fault the food or service, our family had a brilliant night. we would highly recommend

Absolute joke of a restaurant! I booked for a party of 4 for New years day and double checked they did a Vegan roast which they said they did. On arrival we were placed on a table that hadn't been laid and that wasn't in the main part of the restaurant so we already felt dissatisfied. They seemed very short staffed and from what I heard the staff discussing it sounded like they'd over booked and were trying to deal with the mess up. We ordered 4 vegan roasts and about 20 minutes later they bought out our food. We questioned the roasts being vegan as they had yorkshire puddings. The waiter checked and came back to say they weren't vegan. 2 of our party carried on and ate their meals as they were vegetarian so they were fine to eat. An older grey haired women, who i think is the manager, came out from the kitchen and said 'the tickets said vegetarian and that's why we have given you vegetarian meals' . She said it like it was my fault. We had clearly asked for vegan when we ordered. I found her tone rude and abrupt! Myself and my husband then waited another 20 minutes for them to bring out another 2 meals that yet again they had messed up as they weren't vegan. By this point our another 2 party members had finished their meals and we still were waiting. I complained to the waitress and said we would not be paying for the 2 meals that our guests had had and that we would be leaving. The older grey haired women sent out a young man from the kitchen to apologise and we didn't see her again! Never again will we set foot in this pub/restaurant! They totaĺly ruined our new years day!

We went here for our Christmas dinner, we arrived and were greeted with drinks at the bar and then shown our table. We went and sat down and our starters came out, 2 were missing so we made them aware and then 30 minutes later they both came out. Then after plates were cleared it was around an hour for our main food to come out. We were then waiting for plates to be cleared for 15 minutes and then another hour for our deserts to come which we had to ask for. The sticky toffee puddings came with no cream, icecream or custard so were dry. We then had to ask for our cheese board and coffee, which their response was the coffee machine had been turned off and they’re sorry. Overall, we paid £75 per person for the full experience. I understand it’s Christmas Day but if you don’t have enough staff or want to work, then don’t open. It was not worth the money whatsoever and we shall definitely not be returning here.

Notice boards outside need to reflect winter options. Crab advertised on the menu board as were Ale's No crab, one pale ale a total of four taps closed off very disappointed I settled for a cider after all in the county for Cider Fish finger sandwich and halloumi burger were very good as was the service. Dogs are welcome

A cold Tuesday night and seven of us enjoyed a really convivial meal in a delightful, warm, welcoming place.

I have just spent a week with my family in Ilfracombe celebrating my 60th. Six of us went in after making a reservation in the morning and had a lovely evening. Great service and lovely food at very reasonable prices. One lovely touch was the re- lighting of the log fire as they had let in burn down for the evening but we were chilly. My wife on I went back on the 13th, my birthday looking forward to a cozy meal for two but alas, the chef had gone home earlier as he was out on one of the fishing boats early next morning and on a cold November night they were quiet. The manager, Jen, was so apologetic as it was my birthday treat she offered us a couple of free drinks. Very kind. My wife and I went back in the next night and Jen personally cooked our delicious meal. We had an amazing Italian mezze sharing plater followed by two fresh scampi. Really tasty All in all a great place to eat and relax with very good service especially from Jen who we were taken to immediately. Very well done. Guess what ? We are going back to ilfracombe in February and we will certainly be returning. Thank you all. John and Karen.

A mixed experience. When we walked past they had a notice in the window for 20% off food for Blue Light Card Holders on a Monday. This tempted us to go in and have a spit of lunch. Which were were not going to do. First we had to ask of they accepted dogs as we had our puppy with us, and the bar lady was so lovely and said they were dog friendly. When we arrived at the bar to place our order, the manager/owner came out to apply the discount, to which she was only going to apply to one meal. Not the whole order. She said that this happens everywhere you go. Which being a bluelight card holder for some years i know is not the case. And if there was conditions to the discount, this should have been wrote on the poster. We were about to walk out and the manager then agreed to take the discount off of the whole bill for our family of 3. Which in total was about £10. I feel that sometimes smaller businesses don't look at the bigger picture some times, that they may look at the loss of £10 and not the gain of £35 from custom they wouldn't have had, if they didn't use the Blue Light name to intice us in. After this confusion, the food came out quickly, was fresh and delicious! We are glad we stayed. The bar itself looks like it needs a good tidy and clean. My coke was served in a branded beer glass. This maybe a personal thing, but feels very "social club" not having the right glass wear. The bar lady on at the time was very friendly, and was running around doing so many things.

First time for a Sunday roast here. I must say it is the best roast we have had for a very long time, the food was fantastic. Bar and waiting staff where friendly and helpful and very reasonably priced. Lovely atmosphere, good music, child and dog friendly. Well worth a visit

It looked lovely from the outside but it wasn’t welcoming at all. The older bar lady was really very rude with poor customer service , service was slow when it wasn’t even that busy I won’t be rushing back

Ordered steak pie.came with strange tasting mash.although i asked for chips.had 2 gammon steaks pineapple was embeded in the over cooked bacon.asked for 2 lattes got 2 white coffees.gnt with ice no ice.wouldnt reccommend my dog to eat there.avoid at all costs

Very good food, polite friendly stuff. We had a burger, meat pate, hummus, Mediterranean plate - everything was delicious.

Considering the opening hours are fairly late I would think that stopping food orders at 19:30 with about 4 occupied tables is a bit absurd, and the lady behind the bar informed me they don’t take walk ins at this time either. She then promptly took drinks orders while brushing us off. Not exactly impressed considering this is still August and part of your high season. There is no signage to support the barladys opening/food arrangement

We were away on business and tried here for an evening meal. Very friendly staff, good service and food.

Cheapest place we found around the area to eat. The food was good, tasted fresh and home cooked. The best value for money around. The staff were really friendly. My only complaint would be that one of our meals came quite a bit after the rest.

Absolute gem of a find. Visited with 4 adults 2 kids and dog. Range of drinks is great but the food really surprised us great quality, portions and presented really well. Highly recommended.

The name is misleading. There were no beers/ales on tap here. Your bog standard Guinness and lagers. Pictures looked great on here. Reviews sounded good. Honestly, you walk in and you question it’s the same place. Was absolutely deserted. Quiet every time we walked past. We walked past once and people were outside drinking alcohol but eating pasties they had bought from somewhere else. Menu does not reflect the pictures on trip advisor. Honestly, can’t believe it’s the same place!

A great pub with friendly staff and good prices. We didn't eat on this occasion but will definitely be back to eat. Large outdoor area complete with 5 friendly cats.

What an awful place! Can't serve starters today (lack of staff apparently) a greasy fish finger sandwich and a processed burger. Flat beer and wine described as "dry" which was as rubbish as the rest. Don't go!!!!

It’s not often a place that claims to be family friendly really and genuinely is. I really appreciated not only the toys they had out, but also the robust baby changing facilities as I have rather a big heavy toddler. Added to this, the food was delicious and the staff were fantastic. We arrived ten minutes before a big booking without a booking ourselves and the staff took time to discuss the menu with us and get us seated and fed, even though we’d come at a busy time. Did I mention kids under 5 eat free? I highly recommend this pub, would happily visit again.

Extremely poor food, long wait times and incredibly rude staff. There are truly some lovely places to eat in Ilfracombe and this is not one of them. DO NOT waste your time or money going here.

Went to the Pier pub 2 nights ago. Had the most amazing lightly battered cod, chips, curry sauce and peas. My partner had the swordfish steak, which was served with the most delicious red onion mash & sweet chilli sauce. Washed down with a nice glass of wine from a good few choices of wine & a visit up to the “poop deck” to watch the sun-set. Staff were lovely & very accommodating. The chef even came out to ask how the food was and she was lovely herself. Very good food and would highly recommend to all.

Worst Restaurant in Ilfracombe. On arrival we were informed that they were awaiting a table of 10 to arrive and could we could have a table in 40 minutes. We accepted. When the party of 10 didn't turn up (lucky escape for them) we were informed that we could place our order on condition it was within the next five minutes or other people would be put ahead of us. We ordered 4 meals and waited. The first two meals arrived after 40 minutes. An attempt to serve us an incorrect meal was made about 10 minutes after the first two. The very young members of staff serving were completely untrained and unable to offer any help. When I chased the remaining two meals at the bar I was told that they were very busy I explained that if that was the case I would have preferred the first two meals to have been held back as we wanted to eat together. Eventually the third meal arrived at least 20 minutes after the first two. When I returned to the bar to chase again for the 4th meal I was told by bar manager: 1. They had made no other mistakes that day - irrelevant 2. They were very busy - irrelevant 3. That she had done me a favour by giving us a table - irrelevant 4. That she was a Social Worker! - completely irrelevant. For some bizarre reason this fact was offered up to us several times. She also claimed that I had been very rude to her waiting staff and that they were only 16 and it was their first day. I am concerned as 16 year olds cannot legallywork past 7pm and they were certainly working long past that time. I will point out that I was never rude to the serving staff I simply questioned where my meal was. Had they received adequate training and been of a legal age to work they would have been able to have done more than just stare at me! She also told me that she would pay for the meal herself and chuck me out. I explained that all I wanted was an apology rather than continuous excuses. I never did receive one. My meal did eventually turn up about 30 minutes after the first two. At this point we had had enough. My husband asked to speak to the Restaurant Manager but was informed that she was in the kitchen and could not come out. A really vile experience. .

We had a lovely meal here, they even replaced the salad as I could not have balsamic ginger with not trouble. Nice clean place and staff very friendly.

Much more affordable than many other restaurants locally and very child friendly. Kids under 5 eat free and there’s an inside play area full of toys to occupy young children while they wait for food which was an unexpected treat

I think I’m rating this as average because there’s no “Good” and there was nothing special enough to warrant “Very Good”. Food was ok, my Posh Fish Finger sandwich came in thick white bread, just as I like them. Only 1 cask ale available, not what I expect at a Brewery Tap?

Only stopped for a drink. But found that many beer/lager and cider pumps were out due to waiting for brewery delivery. Barman didn’t know what slim line or light tonic was and I think instead served fevertree medetarian tonic!! No atmosphere in bar area

Spent a week in Ilfracombe and visited daily. On the Sunday they had a great DJ and band on and despite the weather the atmosphere was great. Food was very good and the specials amazing Staff were amazing, and service was just as good. Dog friendly pub and a lovely experience.

Came as a group and my friend got served a chicken burger when he clearly stated he was veggie. Staff reacted poorly and unprofessionally, and even shortchanged him on the refund

They gave my veggie mate chicken and were then difficult and rude about it. Plus the swordfish was a bit small. Rest of the food was average.

Got served meat when we asked for vegetarian. Waiter was rude and the manager didn’t t even come speak to us. Gave us a refund in cash and didn’t even cover the food. Awful place do not visit

This was an AWFUL experience. We got served MEAT when we got told and the menu said it was a vegan dish. There was a wrong order and also food was missing and wrong. This was a truly awful experience. The manager didn’t even come out to apologise or speak to us because she was ‘too busy’ so left it to the poor waiters to sort out.

Fish and chips were made from smelling and used oil. I got that dirty taste while eating and even after couple of hours and my digestion got disturbed. Tourist eat and they suffer after leaving. Beer was good. This is my experience.

Best fish, chips and mushy peas iv had. Such a lovely place, will 100% be back, staff made me my partner and children all feel welcome and comfortable. Atmosphere was great and staff were amazing and couldn't do enough to make my autistic 3 year old feel at ease.

Wow so me my husband and two kids visit here every year the staff amazing as always the fish fresh and beautiful as always we had different staff this year which made the experience more beautiful they were smiling serving and what ever we needed helped with I think I took the correct names Beth and Jack what an amazing team effort also the kitchen staff we will be back next year amazing all of u

Great dog friendly place, both in and outside. They filled our dog bowl with water for us on asking. Lovely surroundings inside, and a pleasant little seating area outside the front with views of the harbour. It can get very busy with people walking past, but that is to be expected in this area. We don't have small children but can really appreciate the extra touches they have put in place here for babies and children, from the full size changing table in the ladies toilets, to the large play pen with loads of toys for youngsters.

What a fantastic find. Luckily we visited when it was fairly quiet (end of March) as the Easter holiday hadn't kicked in yet. We were two families of 5 so 4 adults and 6 children. The hosts were nothing but accommodating, understanding the needs of our children. The little play area and the range of board games meant that the kids were kept busy so that the adults could eat in peace! The fish and chips were absolutely freshly made and delicious. Childrens meals were also not from frozen and you could tell that care and effort had been made to make the meals. The food was also very fairly priced and we were happy with the overall cost of dinner. The chef (and owner, I think) came out a couple of times to ask if we were ok and if we enjoyed the food. It made the experience a lot more personable. If we are ever in the area again, we will be sure to dine here again!

Lovely setting howeve, burgers were hard, items missed off order. Batter was soggy. We did receive money off for uneaten meals.

Food was beautiful! We went here impulsively and on initial reaction I didn’t know what to expect, though it did not disappoint.

Lovely place for the sun and good beer and with a cliff side seating spot overlooking the sea. Food? nice chips. cod not so much. Could have done with a tad longer in fryer, on top was flavourless and greasy. Had to go and ask for our side order of bread & butter. only ended up with one when I asked for two. Butter was rock hard so just ripped bread apart. Salt was all clumped together and damp in the shaker. Wouldn’t deter anyone from going for a pint here. Lovely spot. Just bit of a grumble when you spend £30 on two cod and chips in a coastal pub and and this is what you get 😢

Wow what a find!! Perfect place for a sunset, plenty on the menu for everyone and the staff were extremely accommodating!!! Recommend booking the terrace area especially if the weather is nice!!! Food was tasty and reasonably priced. Parking pretty much next door and plenty of it.

At first this placed look ideal for a party of 6. Restaurant was empty. The order was taken and we was advised of a 20 minute delay. However each dish arrived 20 minutes after the previous one so non of the party had there food at the same time. The biggest joke was the burger arrived after 59 minutes and the cheese for the cheese burger arrived 20 minutes after that. However we did make a comment regarding the service only to have a very rude staff member telling us its our fault for ordering separately at the same time. The next day we had discovered we had been charged twice so we contacted the Restaurant over this to be handed to the manager. It would seam myself ringing to make a complaint made me high and mighty. That as holiday makers we get the service we deserve and don't go back into his Restaurant if we are only going to complain. So I guess the staff get trained by him. As a customer based business you need customers to provide an income. If you can't serve 6 customers correctly in an empty restaurant you have a problem

Visited today for food and could not fault a single thing. The fish and chips were amazing as was the cod father burger. Also our 2 year old had sausage and chips and peas(certain dishes under 5s eat for free) and you get butchers sausage and proper chips which is great. The food arrived quickly and piping hot too. Friendly service. Would definitely recommend going here if in Ilfracombe we would return

Popped in yesterday for the first time while on holiday from Wales as my partner couldn't pass up the possibility of trying out the Steak and Ale Pie! The staff were lovely - very friendly helpful accommodating and honest. Highly recommend! Pie was fab too!

Overwhelmed by the customer service here. We both had the swordfish which was absolutely delicious and so fresh! Chef came out of the kitchen (who I imagine is also the owner) and was very welcoming and made us feel so at home. We will definitely come back if we are in the area. Staff can't do enough for you :)

Was made to feel welcome from when I walked in to when I left. Great staff. I had fish cakes.. and they was just what I was hoping for crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Recommended to anyone and everyone. There’s an outside area to look over Bristol Channel and on good days you can also eat up there. A little play pen and games for the kids. And even dogs welcome

Tap+brew We had the ultimate bfast stories Not made fresh pulled from a hot cupboard. Bun hard sausage lookes like it never touched a grill to so called cook it, bacon, I think it was ?? And the omelette was ok and the cheese was gloop and could not get paper off. No taste. Tea fantastic and the lady who served me (Petra) was lovely. DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM. Go elsewhere.

I've eaten here a few times, and never been disappointed. Cod and Chips is the best in town. Came here Sunday for a roast for the first time. It was amazing. Vegetable selection was really good. I had the vege Leek and Cheese option, and I honestly have never had anything so good. Great value for money, service is great and the food is phenomenal.

Great location by the harbour and dog friendly which is always a plus for us. We went out of season on a Monday night and it was very quiet. As such the menu was limited however what they did have was enjoyable and well cooked. The wine selection was limited (one white, one red by the bottle) however we did enjoy the red. Staff very friendly and the meal was very good value.

Lovely, friendly bar staff. Food was worth the wait. We had the swordfish, squid and the Lundy cod and chips. Would certainly go again.

We have been to Ifracombe a few times now but we have never been here before and now we wish we had ! The decor is quirky and reflects the harbour area it’s situated in. We shared the bread and olives as a starter and it was a decent size portion for 2. The Lundy Fish and Chips were amazing ( a cod fillet with the lightest of batter - perfect!) and the crab cakes on special were also yummy! Everyone was super friendly and the fire was welcoming on a wet n windy February evening. Thoroughly recommend a visit !

The locally caught cod, served in beer batter is the best I have ever tasted in 50 years of eating fish and chips! Absolutely superb!! The lady chef / manager really knows what she is doing.

£12.95 for a roast beef lunch which had 6 veg and nicely cooked, charming service to boot.

Went to Devon to visit the family, popped in for a beer as you do. Lovely place. But quiet, but then again, it was late afternoon and the holiday seasons over. In the words of Arnie, I'll be back 👍👌

Very quiet when we arrived with one guy in the bar and one couple eating so easy to get a table. The young lady doing front of house was both friendly and efficient. Heineken was 4.20 a pint which I thought quite reasonable. I had Gammon Steak and the wife went for Chicken Goujons, both of which were good portions, my gammon being just a little overdone for me, but certainly a personal preference and perhaps I should have asked for how I like it. By the time we had finished our meals several more people had congregated in the bar. This eatery looks like a family concern to me and all credit to them as they were continuously finding jobs to do. Thanks for a lovely evening which cost just on 40 quid, so not bad at all!

Exceptional fish and chips. Cod freshly caught same day - chunky, flaky fish with the lightest batter - perfect.

We both had the fish and chips and it was lovely. The staff are very friendly and helpful. It was wheelchair accessible but best to go in the second door.

In a word, Fantastic. We spent a few days in Ilfracombe, each night trying somewhere different to eat, all of which were ok. But wow, the food in The Brewery Tap was absolutely top notch and so was the landlady who couldn't have been more helpful!!🥰 A huge thank you from both of us. I just wish we tried your pub first!!

You get a warm Wellcome to a chilled and homely atmosphere.The a roast dinner is to die for, enough food for two meals,delicious and served with a smile. to top it all, sometimes there is astonishingly good livevmusic.

5th October 2023. 17:30. Walking past The Pier Brewery, I see, on the board outside, Swordfish, I haven't eaten swordfish for a long time. We get a warm welcome, and find a table, order taken, we wait in anticipation. Two plates with large swordfish steaks on mashed potato and a salad garnish. Absolutely lovely, and would return there again, maybe to try something else from the menu, or just for the swordfish. Excellent value, great people and atmosphere. Many thanks.

It was a it of a wait but the crab salad and the swordfish steak were lovely. As was the Thatcher's Gold, and in a dog-friendly setting.

We have eaten twice here this week and honestly the food is fab. We had the Cod best cod ever. The Butterfly Chicken was very nice and the Gammon really good. Nice portion sizes and good prices. Can't fault it. The staff fab esp Kelly the Landlady she went above and beyond to make sure my Grandson was accommodated to making him a lovely hot chocolate with a straw 😆 and cucumber on his child sausage meal which was just right size for him. Nothing seemed to much trouble and we really enjoyed our evenings here. I like the fact you can take dogs in and little kids play area. Been coming Ilfracombe for 50 years for holidays and this would be my go to place to eat without a shadow of a doubt. Thank you all xx

Weather was very weathery so we ducked in to get a spot of lunch. Staff seemed a little under pressure. Nice vibe to the place, definitely child friendly. Two pints of Thatchers Gold (sadly Old Rosie was not on pump). Chicken Liver Pate and Fish Finger sandwich. £22. Reasonable price. Nice pate, really nice real fish fingers. Obligatory salad garnish. Really wish places would be brave enough to ditch the salad. No one really wants it. Also ditch the handful of broken tortilla chips, please. All in all, would happily return for both food and drink. One word of advice. Seasoning please. Add a good amount of salt to the fish dredging flour before battering. It will make all the difference !!!

Very well catered for gluten free which included beautiful fresh fish and chips! The kids chicken nuggets were excellent quality, much better than the usual pub frozen standard. Nice staff and atmosphere.

We walked in about noon and managed to book a table for four only because we couldn't book anywhere else. I'm so glad we ended up here. The roast dinner, which we all had, was honestly the best we have had in years, and so much of it, too. The meat, lamb & beef, was tender and delicious, spuds were yummy, and so much veg, all of it cooked beautifully. We went to Ilfracombe for a weekend break. Personally, I would happily go back just for the roast dinner at The Pier.

We had an amazing meal here last night. The cod was divine, in a very light fresh batter and we chose the onion mash and garden peas to go with it. My sister had the crab salad and wonderful chips and loved it. We had the squid and mozzarella sticks to start. Totally delicious. The 15 year old waitress couldn't have been more helpful. Would recommend.

The Lundy cod, chips and mushy peas was good. The crab salad was fine but spoilt by the hard, stale baguette that came with it. The baguette was exchanged and although it was slightly better it was still disappointing. The rating is based on 5 stars for the fish and chips and 1 for the salad.

Enjoyed a nice evening meal here with the family. We'd come in the previous and not been able to get a table they were that busy, which is great to see after the pandemic. So we booked there and then for the following night. They're training up new, young staff and so you make allowances for people learning the ropes but the food was good (I had the tomato & basil soup and a hunters BBQ chicken) and we had a great view of the harbour (and people watching) as we ate. Didn't have time for a return visit but would happily have done.

So unfortunately this was a disappointment from start to finish. The lady behind bar was rude and had no customer service skills. Beer was warm Food was s**t, reminded me of dog food. Looks nice of the inside but everything else was awful. Loads of young kids working there, they were very polite. But would benefit from some more senior support.

Jenny, Kerry, Lisa and whole team from Friday August 4th - thank you so much. From booking a month earlier through to closing time that night, everyone was awesome. Food was good across the board. We had about 80 friends who all loved their food and all the bar staff were unbelievably efficient and friendly. What a great team, what a great set up.

Expensive, overpriced dish of food - it may have been a lovely place a year or so ago when you look at the history of the pictures here on trip advisor, but it’s terrible now. Popped in for a quick light bite and saw that they did loaded nachos with chilli con carne £9 for small, £14.95 for large. We thought we’d share a large bowl. See pic of what they brought out. And then see what they use to serve a couple of years ago - and I bet that was the small portion. Now I get it that covid and food price increases has hit the industry and so food places have to try and save where they can, but this was just a joke. When we spoke to the manager their response was this is the portion size you get anywhere around here for that price. The attitude was just appalling. No check back to come and see us and by time we got around to speaking to the manager the kids had finished theirs and wanted to leave. Other food coming out looked ok but I would avoid the nachos.

We ordered two meals, it had been over an hour so we calmly went to the bar to check if our food was coming soon. Only to be told aggressively by one of the bar staff that I had only ordered 22 minutes ago. I asked him to check our order to make sure they had the right food to which he replied “it’s whatever you ordered” …. helpful. Then 5 mins later the chef very angrily shouted at another table saying that “it was only 22 mins ago that you ordered , why have you been at the bar saying it’s been over an hour?” and I had to interrupt to say that it was us, even though it had been an hour. Even after all that, when the food did arrive it was average at best. They did offer an apology once they realised they’d made a mistake but it seemed disingenuous.
