The Admiral Collingwood in North Devon

It was the Easter holidays when we visited so it was a very busy lunchtime with lots of families but the service and food was to the usual Wetherspoons standard.

Great up to seating with a lovely view, smoking allowed up top with tables you can order food and drink to. Lovely modern take on a spoons.

Today's we had breakfast at this Witherspoon. We change seats after receiving our food. I could see in the kitchen area where they prepared customers' meals. It noticed both male cooks or staff, placing the food on the plates with their hands, after running their fingers through their hair. There was no hygiene, in my opinion. I watched them for several minutes. I left my details for the manager to contact me. No one did. There I am leaving this review to make people aware and to be careful when you purchase a meal from this location. Overall, very disappointed. We alway use Witherspoon for meals throughout the UK. I will not be visiting this particular one in Ilfracombe. Sorry, I had to be honest.

Usual high standards you expect from Wetherspoon's. Had lunch on 11/04/24. Used the app to order. Quick service. Friendly staff. Good quality food and drink

Well impressed with the food and the prompt service. The pub was clean and the staff couldn't do enough for u. Nicely priced meals, served hot and very quickly and the drinks. Came here twice on my wknd away I enjoyed both meals even had two puddings Would come again

We went in expecting a fine dining experience, we are all 17 years of age, and so we did not order any alcohol. However shortly after sitting down, we were asked for our IDs to prove we were over 16, but some of us did not have an ID, and so we were kicked out of wetherspoons, I feel this was very uncalled for, and there was no reason we could not sit down and enjoy our meal. We do not all carry around passports because we were not expecting to be asked for our ID, we have never been asked to leave a wetherspoons before in various areas over the South West, and there was no apparent reason for us to asked to leave from a ginger average height man. We were not causing any fuss, and only one of us had ordered food because the rest of us were choosing. I do not think I will be coming back to this wetherspoons, and I highly doubt not recommend this wetherspoons because of the horrible service we received.

Best spoons I been in, modern & lovely rooftop terrace. Plenty of spaces to sit & foot and drink came quickly.

Always busy like all spoons pubs, cheap beef and food for the area, toilets located downstairs (1st ever spoons I have visited with the loos on ground floor, not 60 flights of stairs)

ordered a pitcher and left a beer cap at the bottom, could have been drinking god knows what. unacceptable

I always enjoy a coffee and breakfast here. The staff are always polite and helpful. The food is spot on and the building is lovely.

Went for the biggest breakfast. It cost a lot more than on there website. Servered quickly, wasn't as big as i thought it would be, but tasted good. Paid extra for unlimited refills on the coffee which we leaned into. Nice friendly place and realy the cost was less than some places but £19.60 for 2 breakfasts

Excellent spoons. Food is nice, service was super quick and easy to order via the app. We've had 2 meals in this over the half term week. Both times the food was hot, fresh and the drinks selection was excellent. Big fan of the choice of low alcohol/soft drinks that spoons now serve. Family of 4 adults and 1 child had drinks and main meals for £55 - great value.

Excellent food, value for money. Must praise all staff, including kitchen staff, bar staff, down to the staff who were busy collecting glasses and clearing table. You are all doing an amazing job and you are a credit to yourselves. I did speak to the management to pass on my feedback, who also praised you all and said what an excellent team you are at The Admiral Collingwood. Keep up the good work.

Cheap and cheerful, food was good and no complaints from the six in our party.

We have eaten here a couple of times during our holiday as it is reasonably priced and the food has always been good. We had two evening meals and a breakfast during our stay. We would recommend it as a good place to eat even when it’s very busy.

Been in here for the last year now and our experience seems to always be made better by a certain member of staff. Scott, seems to really care about the service and quality of it, he seems to go above and beyond to make sure we have what we need and that it's of the best quality. Not something I'd usually expect from a weathspoons, but low and behold this guy does it. Very happy and it's because of him we keep coming back. Thank you to all the staff and a massive thank you to Scott our superman server....

Staff are friendly, professional and hard working. I had an American burger with a crispy gherkin, chips and wine for under £10 excellent value and great for a smaller appetite.

Chloe was the best bartender ever she’s was so lovely and met all our needs, she’s so kind and was so helpful with everything we needed!

A nice place to eat. Attentive friendly staff, free hot drinks refill. Very nice and clean toilets. Good quick service, all OK. Thank you

I only had a small breakfast, the girl was holding the plate with a cloth, so the breakfast was hot, no it was stone cold, won't be eating there again..

Went for a meal tonight in Wetherspoons ilfacombe I didn’t have my glasses so couldn’t see the menu very well. The girl serving was not really that helpful and was somewhat rude when I asked for help choosing a burger. Food came quickly and was brought out by waitress who was charming. However a drunk man on table across from me was bieng quite threatening to another man in the pub shouting out ‘obscenities and don’t mess with me mate ‘I should be barred, I only came here for a fight’ This was quite intimidating and didn’t seem to be any door staff on hand only the two girls. There were not many people in as a Monday night mostly families, but I wouldn’t be taking my kids there . It really spoilt my enjoyment of my food wherever you get cheap booz unfortunately you get a-holes .

What you'd expect to from a witherspoon, though this time with a good location and view. Cheap beers with a large selection of taps to choose from. Good pizza and basic burgers. Interesting carpet.

We visited just after Christmas and my husband and father in law ordered the fish and chips, I had the bean chilli and honestly even for a cheap meal the food wasn't great, I understand you get what you pay for but I still expect a certain quality, the fish batter although looked crispy was undercooked (probably due to the batter being too thick) and very greasy, the chilli wasn't bad but didn't taste of much, I would deffinately think twice about coming back again.

We’re having dessert with my partner when I was told to get my Legg off of a chair twice. I understand the first time, however on the second time I told him how I broke my leg a couple months ago and needed to raise it when In pain. He moved the chair to get my foot off it and made my experience uncomfortable, got rid of my food and left.

This has to be the best wether spoons in the country awesome staff, very clean environment , food was amazing and well presented. Stunning glass dome and amazing roof bar and seated terrace overlooking the sea and even has a real log fire...... This is the flagship of spoons

Awful management by David. I was enjoying the first round of drinks with a party of 9 until 1 member of our group had a drag from a vape inside. A friendly member of staff then asked for it not to happen again and that should have been the end of it. We then headed to the bar to find we were ALL BANNED from getting anymore drinks. Punishing 1 person I can understand but punishing 8 people is unnecessary. Sod it, I headed to the bar and was served one loverly pint of Stella. Just 2 sips later, David the manger marched over and demanded he takes it from me. I’m sure you can fill in the gaps of what happened next. (A very unhappy customer) To David please communicate better and have a better approach to handling a large party of guests.

Good service by staff. Food was quick and was hot. All staff were very pleasant.

It was about mid day, the sun stood tall towering over the seaside town, paired crisp winter winds, I was having a splendid day in ilfracombe where I fancied a cheap meal and drink and to warm myself up. I entered and the atmospheric warm gust trickled through my clothes to warm me up. “Oo that’s better” I muttered, I ordered a chicken wrap and a pint of guiness where all of a sudden, an employee passing by squeezed out a small fart, the noise startled me as I jumped.. the smell lingered for a while, I glanced down and upon closer inspection a small turd pellet was beside me, it was as if a rabbit done the deed! It certainly put a downer on my day.. perhaps I shall return, but not so soon…..

Food was very nice. Dad liked lager. Just steps away from Ilfracombe beach. You will rarely imagine finding a such big and cozy place in Ilfracombe.

Tuesday midday so very quiet. Excellent service and friendly helpfull staff. Food quickly served and of good quality. Steak and kidney pudding very nice, if a little short on filling, and the chips were perfectly cooked. Mushy peas were excellent and the accompaning jug of gravy set the meal of well. Sirloin steak decent size and well flavoured but more medium than the medium rare ordered. Overall very good value for money with a pleasant ambience in a nice location.

Eaten here a couple of times this week. Reasonably-priced food with good portions and cheap beer. Wanted the gammon, which was shown online but the in-house menu had several ommissions, which I asked about. It seems that although the winter menu is showing online, this is yet to trickle down to at least some of the branches unfortunately. The place wasn't brimming with people but there were several for a mid-week early evening. Service was fast and efficient. Let's be honest, it's a 'Spoons and you pretty much know what you're going to get before you walk in the door, which is the attraction, I guess.

Typical Wetherspoon pub for a recent build. More expensive than most but still good value. Roof terrace has a view of the seafront. Interior is bright and airy. Popular with locals and visitors.

Small car park. We went for breakfast. Nice fire burning lovely and warm. Breakfast was excellent, we had the freeman with black pudding. Very nice. Staff friendly except we saw one turn up for work and park in one of the two disabled parking spaces and the other had a car not displaying a blue badge so they were both full.

A truly exquisite Ilfracombe dining experience today, had some freshly caught fish, which was still quivering as I tucked in. Fantastic service given by a tall chap, who had the generous, yet subtle demeanour of a spearmint rhino concierge, yet the looks of Billy idol. Strongly recommend to all if you plan to visit the half naked statued town of Ilfracombe.

No dogs allowed not even outside and left feeling like a lepper by the staff.Stuff witherspoon go local instead

Absolutely the best Wetherspoons ever visited. Food is always very prompt, fresh and hot. Staff very friendly, and the surroundings very well maintained and clean.

As staying on outskirts of town and had walked in surprisingly found very few restaurants available and thus had two evening meals here. Friday night had to be the Fish and Chips and although the pub was quite large and relatively busy the food was served within 8 minutes of ordering. It was of the usual good standard, nice and hot and quite a big portion. However surprised at the price charged as it was dearer than in London when we visited a few days later. On the Saturday had Chicken buttermilk burgers with a side of onion rings. Again served within 7 mins of ordering, all hot and tasty. Had the cookie crunch and ice cream for a dessert which was OK. Later told by our hotel owner that this is the dearest Wetherspoons in the country - not sure why as nearby Bideford was much cheaper.

Awful experience, rude staff, chicken was served undercooked and raw in the middle!! Hair in the eggs. Food wasn’t even warm. No staff wear hair nets. Bartender was clearly not fit for work and was sneezing and coughing over all drinks and glasses. Smashed glass outside the premesis makes it extremely unsafe for animals and children. Menus were sticky and dirty. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Pay the extra for a decent meal at another pub because this place is horrid.

There are not many places to eat and drink in Ilfracombe, so this public house is a welcome choice. For these reasons it can be busy, there is a roof top outside seating area, which we are told is very popular during the summer months. We had food and drink while there, selection of few real ales, all the other normal selection are available.

Best withspoons I have ever been. Fastest service I have ever received. Only came in for drinks a few times . Used the app for the first time and found. I was receiving my drink. In about ninety seconds. Managers From other witherspoons should visit this pub to see how it should be done. . Especially my local one.

Nice really modern and friendly

I only went for a drink. I was greeted immediately by a very helpful member of staff. I was very impressed by the way the staff went round, collecting plates and glasses and keeping the tables clean. The only downside was that the gents toilet was a bit smelly.

Really good for a quick reasonable meal. We had just come back from Lundy Island so a perfect finish to our day.

Modern, clean, fabulous views, typical Wetherspoons for food (cheap eats, hot and fresh at the Collingwood though which is a plus) but the staff are amazing. So friendly, so eager to help. Definitely worth a visit.

A purpose built spoons in a beautiful location. The decor and design inside is very good..lots of exposed granite and timber. Hard wood flooring and lots of glass. There is also an upstairs open area with good views. Typical spoons food..always prompt and hot. Tim definitely knows how to do it.
