I ordered fish chips and mushy peas, great the food was delivered on time. Unfortunately the food had a nasty smell to it, I phoned the shop and said it was un edible and was told to ring back later as they were busy. Cannot believe the response the fact there was no apology. I Would definitely give this place a miss.

First time visit to this chip shop last Friday (8/3/24). Absolutely spot on. Good polite staff. Good sized portions, more importantly the chips were delicious. My wife said the fish was very good. The pies aren't pukka pies but it was a very nice pie. Will definitely be back. 10 out of 10. 👍

Arrived pretty fast and was still hot, the chips and cod were very nice with a crispy batter and not greasy at all. Only criticism was the curry sauce.. it had the consistency of water and didn’t taste of anything at all.. so didn’t eat that but would still definitely order from here again

They were busy so it took a while for them to assign a driver. However, the food was nice and hot when it got here. So well worth the wait.

Burger cold hardy any salad or mayonnaise that was requested the onion rings were awful this is my first order from here but I doubt I’ll order again it’s a shame considering the good reviews I checked first the burger was the veggie option

Over cooked to a crisp couldn’t eat , manager not returning calls even visited shop no help

Chips were good,nice colour to them rather than looking pale. Cheese burger was good but could of done with more cheese in it. Was not enough for 1/2 Lb. Salad could of been a little less chunky. But it all tasted good.

Just eat said they delivered order . I didn’t recieve item. Emailed them , I got blank response . Whidden valley fryer washed their hands. I ordered seeing a review of someone helping them . Abysmal . Lost my £20 to a rogue delivery driver. Never ever order with just eat or whoddon valley fryer

It's the first time I went here for 2 large chips. But I was disappointed by the small portion of the large chips and the high price of £4.25 each. I understand that prices go up but the size was like the small chips I get at our local chip shop and for a large I pay 50p less. I should say that the chips were nice, and the service was good, good atmosphere and clean looking.

I waited for my delivery so when the app said that the driver had arrived, I got up and made my way to my flats intercom system. I did this because I am disabled and know how long it takes me to answer. As I got to the intercom in the passageway, the driver buzzed so I answered and let him in. I then made my way to my front door to meet him. And there I waited for about 4 minutes but couldn't wait a second longer because of pain. (Terminal cancer) I then noticed that the app said that my order had been delivered, so I went back to my bedroom. I contacted the restaurant, and the lady I spoke to explained that once the driver had collected the food, the 'order' was no longer in their hands. I told her I understood. She said she would contact JUST EAT and try and figure out what had happened. I was really grateful. She suggested that I also contact JUST EAT. I rang a number, wasting minutes on that phone call, just for them to tell you to contact them online! Not the restaurant's fault, just bad customer service from Just Eat. The lady I spoke to, phoned me back and told me that Just Eat more or less hung up on her. She asked me for my address and told me that she was going to come to my flat to see if the driver had left my food anywhere. Within about 5 minutes, she rang my flat. In her hands was my missing Fish and Chips. (The driver had left my food outside the front of the block of flats.) Now this is TRUE customer service. I have never had a restaurant go this far to help out, bar once. Thank you The Whiddon Valley Fryer! I can truly recommend this restaurant.

As a fairly frequent user of the Just eat Whiddon Valley Frier delivery I have been disappointed for the first time this evening. The chips were cold and undercooked. The fish batter was undercooked and thick and soggy. Maybe the earlier time I ordered for delivery was unfortunate. I will still use this company as the Whiddon Valley Fryer is normally excellent. very disappointed.

We used Whiddon valley for our meal the night before our wedding. The fish was cooked perfectly. And we are still getting compliments saying it was the best fist & chips people have ever had. Highly, highly, recommend.

Food great but service is absolutely shocking! On two previous visits to Barnstaple I’ve ordered from here. The first time online and I turned up on time to find my food hadn’t been prepared. Last week I ordered over the phone for collection an hour later and once again I turned up exactly on time to find my order hadn’t been prepared. I politely asked why should I bother to order if the food is never ready? I got the lame excuse of “she wrote it down but never told us” whilst pointing to a handwritten list on the counter along with what I presume were the online printed orders so the excuse didn’t add up. The shop seems to be staffed by youngsters with no one actually in charge and no system in place as to who does what. In short, the food was really really good but I see no point whatsoever in ordering in advance as it won’t be ready so you may as well just walk in and wait

Sadly not the best service. Food excellent but item missing again. Phoned to speak to restaurant who would benefit from a “mute” button when talking to their colleagues.

3rd week now absolutely amazing food and friendly staff

Ordered two cod, chips and mushy peas. The worst fish and chips, we've ever eaten!!! Unsure what oil was used but made the chips chewy, dry and hard to eat. We could literally only taste the ketchup we added to our food, no flavour at all. The actual fish was of a good quality but the batter was greasy. Will never order from the whiddon fryer again!!!

The food was cold by the time it got to us. It was in bags that hadn't been folded down then in a carrier bag so no heat kept in it at all. Won't be going back here again, total waste of money.

Chips were overcooked and nearly cold so we were unable to eat them. I tracked the driver and he went around the town past the end of our road twice before delivering.

Watched driver on map go 10 mile dtour with 2 long stops befor food arrived would probably be 5*quality if the driver came straight here

Absolutely best fish and chips in the area. Today I had them delivered but I visit the shop too and you can tell they take pride in it. Always clean and everything looks fresh. Absolutely fantastic!

The chips were poor quality and the gravy was very watery. Ordered a 1/2 pound cheeseburger and no salad and just small amount of cheese sprinkled on the burger. In the plus side the fish was excellent. Very disappointed considering what the cost was

So disappointed with our order today. Have been a walk in customer here many times and always have a large haddock and chips which is usually spot on. Today we thought we would get our food delivered via just eat and of course ordered our favourite, large haddock and chips, the haddock was tiny, definitely not worth the £13.50, although the fish was very tasty, and we can't fault the delivery. We won't be ordering from here again. Too expensive for such a small portion.

Usually a great service, and super fast. Today however, we had chips missing from the chicken burger meal and driver went to the wrong side of Barnstaple before phoning for directions so food was cold when it got here. Microwaved fish and chips just isn’t right! 😞
