This place! Loved it. Beckoned in by the lads drinking in the bar who turned out to be serving / hosting! If you want frills don’t come but if you want an experience make sure you don’t pass. Cheers for the service, will linger long in the memory 👍🤓

A great pub which is nestled away on the moors, it's lovely and remote. A welcoming landlord and a nice selection of drink. Definitely recommended!

What a find. Unfortunately chef was not available, however the welcome, atmosphere and ambience more than made up for the lack of food. A great host, characterful locals and a wide range of drinks made for a long night of longer tales and even longer philosophising. Certainly worth the detour. A jewel in the Peaks!

Can't really comment as we didn't go in primarily because it looked abandoned from the out side. It really does nothing to encourage custom. It tends to look like a "local pub for local people'. Never saw more than one vehicle parked out side and it was always the same one over the week. Have to say I was nervous about going in! Silly but it looked like it was a dwelling more than a pub. Update. Appreciate the comments of writing a review having not been in there, but I may have lost the point of the review. I have been there but didn't go in by choice because of the appearance. Hoped to suggest to others to go in and don't be put off if you see it the way we did. Perhaps a sign out side saying open might help?

Following a recommendation from a friend we decided to have our local ‘pub family’ Christmas meal here. 18 of us arrived on mass and were greated with smiles from the bar team, the food came out all together and was delicious.... everything from Scampi to rib eye steak. We laughed from the minute we arrived to the moment we left. We’ll defo be visiting again. Well worth a visit.

Just had brilliant food in excellent surroundings. If you are a lover of traditional country pubs then this venue is a must. Open fires, welcoming owners, great food, friendly atmosphere and excellent beer. What more could you want. If you are staying anywhere near Buxton we highly recommend trying it. I had the steak pie which was to die for. My girlfriend had the Scampi which was equally good. Be warned, the portions are large. Make sure you are hungry. We will certainly be returning next time we visit Buxton.

The owners were nice and friendly and always chatty :) which is nice. My husband and I went for lunch at this pub yesterday, firstly it's a beautiful, well kept, traditional country pub, i was truly amazed by the very warm welcome we had from Carl, although busy he found the time several times to come and sit with us and chat like old friends, the service was impeccable, we ordered sirloin steak, didn't have to wait too long, the portion was huge, piping hot, everything cooked to perfection, we thoroughly enjoyed it and as it's far superior to any other place we've eaten, we'll never have a meal out anywhere else, a big thumbs up from us, thank you for a perfect meal in such a beautiful friendly pub

On our previous visit I lamented the fact that muscles were not on the menu. The matre'd said next time ask for them when you reserve - so I did and they were superb. The prawn cocktail for starters was a good bowl full so as good as the deserts looked we didn't have room. The ale is always well kept and long standing favourites are alongside others. All in all you will find it hard to discover a better eating experience at very reasonable prices.

Had a drive up to this place for a meal and have to say the only negative I can say is that it was difficult to find (But that could just be down to me) The food was absolutely beautiful and plentiful. Karl (The landlord) was super friendly. The whole experience was an absolutely great experience. We will be visiting again with friends because I believe everyone should get to see this Gem. Would strongly recommend that if you want a good old country pub and a hearty meal this is most definitely the place.

I used to come to this pub around 20 years ago, when we used to camp on the field behind the pub. In those days, the landlord and landlady were the salts of the earth, offering good beer and excellent food.20 years later, the same people run the pub (how rare is that ?), and they still serve great beer and even better food. For those that do not know, this pub is in the middle of nowhere, but is well worth finding. The welcome is fantastic. It is a real country pub with proper wholesome food that can not be faulted. Carl, Donna and the kids made us feel very welcome and provided an excellent experience for all those visiting.Going to make the 90 minute journey again this weekend just for the mixed grill.

Staying at Longnor Wood caravan site, had seen reviews of this pub and drove out to Reapsmoor. Lovely welcome to strangers, not all cliquey like some out of the way places. Carl put his dogs out so we could bring ours in. Great beer, and good honest home-cooked food. Meat and pot pie could have fed two easily. Not expensive. Def not gastronomy pub, and maybe could do with a little clean, but welcoming with fire lit. Great local, would like to have it near our house. Well done to you all.

On walking in to this busy pub we were greeted by friendly staff and felt welcomed .... The Pub is set in an idealic area of moorland and out of the way yet seems to be filled with customers appreciating the quality of the food and ales served here ..... There are no mod cons here it is as you would say a 'Farmers Pub' where great food and beers take priority..Our group ordered a range of steaks and chops such as T bone, sirloin, rump and Barnsley Lamb chops.... all of us had a different preference on how we like the steaks cooked and much to our delight when they arrived the were all cooked perfectly !!!! .... Credit must go to the chef as this standard of cooking is rarely seen. The size of the meals was massive which I would class as 'farmers size' and our plates were either completely cleared or half empty which was not a judgement on the quality of the food but more a difference in size of appetites .... the quality was so good that the food that was left on the plates was too good to throw away and so the staff readily gave us some bags to take it home to enjoy the next day .....I think when I return to this pub which I most surely will, I shall have to miss my previous meal to do the Steak justice !!Everyone in our party was very impressed with the meals we had received and will all be returning... I would recommend this pub to anyone wanting to enjoy a steak in a relaxing atmosphere with great beer to help it down

I loved this pub the minute I set foot in it, it was warm and inviting and loved the gorgeous alsatians. The landlord and landlady are very friendly and it really is a family run pub with the children helping out extremely competently, the little waitress makes excellent cups of tea in a real mug, I had the breakfast which was beautifully cooked and there was loads of it, and it was only a fiver. Will definately be coming here again, thank you.

The Butchers Arms is one of a dying breed of pubs; run by the same family for many years, popular with locals, unspoilt (no musak, slot machines) and with a friendly landlord and lady. Food is cheap, home-cooked and locally sourced and the beer is good. Don't expect a gastro-pub, or a plastic chain pub and you may have to wait for food if a large group orders before you. But make the most of a place like this, unfortunately there aren't many left.

The steaks were cooked to our exact liking they got it spot on!Chips were delicious, we got salad and peas (little strange...) onion rings and deep fried mushrooms. Nothing was left on the plates even with a meal that huge!!They have 2 big gorgeous dogs that were let into the pub around 10:30pm and wandered about the customers and regulars very friendly German shepards!I can not wait to go back, the biggest steak they do is a 24oz!!!!! Been to this roral pub many times if we fancy a drive out in the beautiful countryside stafforsdshire/derbyshire has to offer. It's extremely quirky and very olde worldee, the pub is run by a lovely family and its not unusual to see the children helping out. Donna & Carl are very welcoming and pride themselves on saucing local produce from reputable butchers, bakers and fresh produce suppliers. I would recommend this pub to anyone wanting a warm and relaxing welcome served with good locally supplied food. The portions are absolutely huge, and value for money.

Very very hard to put into words the total lack of professionalism and attitude we encountered at the butchers arms. Upon entering our party might as well have been invisible, the landlord(Karl) stood sampling home brew with his friends at the bar to leave us to be served by a girl of maybe eight years old( with alcohol) ? When we did finally get a meal it could only be described as of apalling quality, preparation and presentation !! Never to return again !!

The wheatsheaf was really nice we found it extremely cosy and clean. The service was great and very prompt the staff were also extremely polite and helpful. The menu was obviously the usual Wetherspoons food but the setting and staff made our visit better than other Wetherspoons we visited in the past. I also like how they have plenty of local history on display explaining famous local places or people.

A charming and cozy little pub that feels refreshingly different from the typical Greene King franchise. The bar staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, engaging in delightful conversation that added a personal touch to our visit. The food was excellent – we tried the sharing platters and were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions and great value. The pub’s Christmas decorations were beautifully done, creating a warm and festive atmosphere that made our experience even more enjoyable. This is easily one of the best Greene King locations we’ve visited locally, and we’ll definitely be returning!
