The food here is average but not value for money, small portions of meat on Sunday roast, I don’t mind expensive meals if i enjoy and are value for money. service was also quite chaotic, having to ask for things twice. Have since been advised there are much much better places to eat in Ludlow. My advice would be to look around and not go to the first place you come across like we did.

We ate here on a quiet evening. The decor is tired, the staff were nice and we liked the music. I had the homemade lasagne and it was very poor - dry and lacking in taste and really anything except rather gloopy lasagne sheets. Fortunately it was a small portion. It was served with loads of chips, enough garlic bread to share and a salad garnish. The wine was below average pub quality but drinkable. My partner had sausages which he said were excellent with a cheesey mash. Hence the three stars. If you go, drink the ale and avoid the lasagne

Went here for Sunday lunch with friends. The pub was very full and although we booked we ate in the bar on very small tables. We waited ages for the food and eventually the vegetables arrived followed some time after by the plates with the meat, potatoes and rock hard inedible yorkshire it was served cold and served on cold plates. We told a member of staff but the just grunted and walked off ! The plate of veg was now cold and barely enough for one little known 4 and the plates were so big the food looked lost and the table was so small it was hard for everything to fit on it. The only redeeming item was the roast beef, which was a really tasty thick slice. Certainly not worth the money, and I hate cold food!

This had to be the WORST dining experience we have ever had - 'FAWLTY TOWERS ESQ' . We booked a table for five very early in the week for Friday afternoon , when we arrived we were told the table we had specifically selected had accidentally been given to someone else ! After a 30 minute wait outside (wish we hadn't bothered) the table was finally ready. We ordered the meals , and waited at least 45 minutes for them , when they arrived the had forgotten one of the children's meals. My ludlow sausage and mash was just a bowl of slop ! and the sausages were 100% NOT ludlow sausage , the mash was just like packet SMASH ! Nearly all the diners were complaining about length of time waiting for meals , missing meals and other problems. The young servers were totally out of their depth and the chef obviously not up to the job and the prices were ridiculous (£ 75 in total for utter rubbish) we could have eaten in the Queens or other good pubs for the same price ! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!

My partner and I visited Ludlow on a chilly Saturday lunchtime in November, we trekked through the Market and side streets perusing the menus outside the various eateries, most looked more like evening fayre, expensive, fine-dining type offerings, as you would expect from the culinary capital of Shropshire. But, at the very end of our walk we stumbled upon Ye Olde Bull ring Tavern, a beautiful Black and White building, befitting of the Town. It was only 11:40am but we had both skipped breakfast and were very hungry, we were given menus and found a table in an area to the left of the main bar. The area was completely empty when we arrived but was completely full when we left just over an hour later. The Menu consisted of several Classic Pub staples, with an extended Burger section, the prices seemed very reasonable. I chose the Bacon Cheese Burger and upgraded my thick Cut Chips to Fries for £1, my partner chose the Ham, egg and Chips. Both meals filled the gap perfectly, they were tasty, well-sized and good value. I had a good Pint of Cruzcampo Lager and my partner had a Coffee, and the total bill was less than £35, absolutely no complaints here.

Clearly a locals pub. One of the few places in town serving evening food on a Tuesday, which didn't also have and event on. Good choices of food, well cooked, and large portions. We were all happy with our choices of food and drinks. Only disappointed that there was a shortage of dessert options, and nothing left which we wanted. Would be very happy to return. Very impressed standing outside wondering about an evening meal. Especially seeing ‘Try Shropshire Faggots’. So we went away, to specially return for an evening meal. Yep, I ordered a pint of local ale, very acceptable. Then the faggots, while my wife ordered a Red Thai curry. Full marks for presentation. Less so for the actual meals. It was OK. Acceptable. Though my wife’s comment was that she had a somewhat basic curry, but certainly was not Red Thai. The staff were helpful. The prices reasonably. Probably a place for locals to use for a quick meal. Rather than a place to use for a celebration.

I ordered belly pork and my wife scamp. After ordering the table behind me complained about their belly pork so I was dubious, however when it arrived it was delicious. Pity I could not say the same about my wife's meal. She had to send it back as her chips were still frozen. When the meal returned they were still hard and some of the peas were still frozen. Not good value at £16.95, at that price you expect proper prepared chips not frozen.

Disappointed with our visit. Food took a long time to arrive and when it did the battered fish and battered onion rings were soggy, chewy and rubbery. The mushy peas resembled that of dried out plasticine. Fish cost £15 and was really disappointed. It basically resembled a slightly larger fish finger. I was offered a replacement to be fair by the guy who was serving tables, however as I'd waited over half an hour for the food and was starving I'd already eaten it hence why I didn't ask for a refund.

Attracted by the Friday Fish Special of 2 dishes for £14 we thought we would give this pub a tryout. Very friendly staff, but our table felt a bit sticky and dirty. We enjoyed our glass of wine but were a little disappointed in the batter on our fish. Although the fish itself was cooked perfectly the batter could definitely have been much crispier. The portion of chips could also have been a little larger. However, we both commented on how tasty the tartare sauce was and also the dressing on the little serving of salad.

Went in before they started serving food to look at menu. Fancied the steak and kidney pie. I asked if the pies were homemade or bought in. “Homemade” was the reply. We returned later when food was being served. I said to the waitress “I’m told your pies are homemade.” “Yes they are” she answered. When the pies came they looked very “chip shoppish.” Indeed the pastry was soggy and there was more gravy than meat. When the bill came I asked if the pies were made on the premises. “No we get them from the local butchers.” Non plussed with the whole meal. No evidence is culinary skills except the use of a microwave. I won’t go there again.

We sat in the small ack yard which was nice and although actually backing onto the small street behind the Inn, we only saw one vehicle which was dleivering supplies to the Inn. We took advantage of the two course deal with the Roast dinners we had, we all had the Roast beef which was of a good size and very nice. Thre was also a side dish of cauliflower cheese which was freshly grilled as it was very hot!.The deserts on the page that were part of the two course deal were not available but we were able to choose from the main desert page instead which gae us more choice, The only small issue we had was the time it took for the desserts to come although we had rdered them when we ordered the main courses, Had to go and ask to speed them up. Other than that all was great. We visited Ludlow for the first time and called in to Ye Olde Bull Ring Tavern for lunch. The building looks fantastic from the outside although slightly disappointing inside, it was perfectly clean and laid out well but didn't really do the outside of the historical pub justice with the rather plain decoration. The service was really good, very friendly staff and accommodating when we wanted something not on the menu. I can thoroughly recommend the Shropshire faggots and the chips were lovely, our only very slight issue with the food was that the fried eggs were a tad undercooked and had some runny white around the yoke (which may just be a personal preference). Local ale was very nice too.Overall we were very happy with our visit, and perfectly safe with the service and cleanliness during Covid. I feel for them having to close for 4 weeks now with the new lockdown in England but would go back again of we visit Ludlow again.

We arrived at five to twelve and we suspected lunch might be good as every table in the downstairs restaurant was occupied by quarter past. We were not disappointed.Friendly, attentive staff served great food. My wife’s lasagne was very nice, and my Inferno burger was great. All hot and freshly cooked with a homemade look.Recommended.

Staying in Ludlow for the weekend, so made a beeline for this pub as they do two fish and chip meals for £12 on a Friday. The food was delicious, the only drawback was the "chips" were actually fries but lovely fish cooked in beer batter.Good selection of ales as well and very nice staff and surroundings.

We came for Sunday lunch, we had to que at the door then we were shown how to do the track and trace however this didn't work so we was given a peice of paper to write our details down. We were shown to our table with menus and the waiter told us 2minutes and she'd be back to take our order. After 25 minutes she came and took the order off another table and continued to ignore us. After 30 minutes with no drinks or even an order taken we decided to leave. The waiter saw us leaving and said sorry and rushed off. She didn't even try to make us stay. Very gutting as menu was very good and it was our first time in ludlow. This would stop us making a return to this pub. More staff needed

I called in for a nite cap whilst staying in Ludlow. I was surprised to see how busy it still was at nearing closing time. The pub gave the impression of being very clean, considering it was nearly the end of service. The bartender was friendly and knew what they were doing when it came to serving drinks in the correct manner.Overall a pleasant visit, and yes I would return.

Clean pub toilets clean. Plenty of room and atmospheric pub too. I had a cheese and ham panini which was hot as were the chips. Wife had a starter of king prawns with a side order of chips. The prawns were were very tasty with a crispy coating chips and plates were hot. Nicely presented quickly by friendly staff.

Had walked past this place a few times over the preceding days and was looking forward to seeing inside but was disappointed when we stopped off for a beer on the way back to the hotel. We decided to give it a try for food and I must say, it was lovely. Couldn’t fault it at all. Just a shame they haven’t made to most of the interior but don’t let that put you off!

The Bull has a great classic pub grub menu to choose from. We went for homemade lasagne a whopping portion that came with chips (golden and crisp) garlic bread (half a baguette bit underdone/soft but not really necessary anyway as the portion was so big!) and a fresh salad. The lasagne itself was delicious, a cheesy top and rich tomato sauce obviously homemade which is good, it was very enjoyable. My husband ordered the chicken burger and the batter on the chicken was amazing, like something from the chip shop crunchy and tasty. We were both very full and satisfied with our meal and the staff on the bar were chatty and friendly. I would recommend visiting for a cheap cheerful and delicious lunch.

Lunch with friends. Service was ok. Food hit the spot. Nothing special but cooked well and all hot. Only complaint was that we were all very cold. There did not seem to be any heating on.

Stayed up in beautiful Ludlow on Boxing Day and had lunch in the Tavern of Beef Stew with plenty of veg and it was really tasty and great value for money. Good decent NZ Sav Blanc too. Our table was a little messy when we sat down but was immediately cleaned and reset for us and overall the service was excellent. I can heartily recommend this pub for good value pub grub and a friendly atmosphere. Top Marks!

We came for Sunday lunch with our baby and two friends, it's such a bargain for the food you get! I had pork and my partner had beef. Both the meats were moist and super tasty. I've often had roasts that are dry but this topped many I've had at other pubs and for a better price! Massive yorkshire puddings and a great selection of veg which they bring out separately to your main plate which personally i appriciate as I don't eat much veg. I was absolutely stuffed afterwards and chef Lou is a gem. 100% recommend, great atmosphere and service as well. Thank you all at the tav. Will be making it a regular stop when in Ludlow.

Stopped her for a quick drink and to shelter from the rain and cold. Ended up staying for food as well. Service was friendly and attentive. Portions were huge and food really tasty - ribs fell apart. Beer was good too! High chairs for babies and lots of space for prams etc.

I went to this restaurant for the first time following a recommendation. The lady who served us was very friendly and welcoming. There's plenty of choice on the menu and we didn't wait long for our meal. It was freshly cooked, nice and hot and very tasty. I will definitely return.

Visited this place with friends today. Soon as we walked in we were met with quite an abrupt member of staff. We sat down to eat at 2pm order was taken within 15 minutes, however after an hour we asked how much longer our food would be as others were coming in and getting their food. A few members of other staff were looking over to us probably trying to work out why we were there. Anyway, 5 mins later another staff member came and said our food will be only a few mins (no explanation or apology).. these few minutes turned to half an hour when another staff member came over and said there been a mix up in kitchen. We did have a half hearted apology this time oh and took our 3 glasses of coke off our bill so far... it's now 3.30 still no food. By 3.40pm we were not sitting there watching others eating so left to find another place.

Called in at lunch time for a drink and a snack, the menu offers mainly main meals , but we shared a Ludlow sausage ciabatta with chips and it was very good. The staff were very friendly and were able to recommend food that was dairy free as m6 wife has a dairy intolerance. The tavern is very old and has a nice atmosphere, we would certainly recommend it.

Had breakfast yesterday morning, food cold, scrambled eggs had been microwaved, mushrooms where disgusting, the price £7.00, definitely not worth going back again. 1 x male staff member running around like a headless chicken, he didn't know which way to turn.

What a find we were staying at Ludlow Touring site and booked Sunday lunch at The Wheatsheaf . The pub was really welcoming warm and comfortable. We were two couples who went for Sunday lunch and we all agreed it was the best Sunday lunch we had had at a pub and really good value . The beef and lamb were really tender and there was a good selection of vegetables all cooked perfectly. The service was good and nothing too much trouble. Thank you for making our first visit a success

Been for lunch today and ordered the soup carrot and butternut squash which was OK, I asked for a brown roll but instead I got boring sliced brown so i asked for a roll and was told they didn't have any but could get me seedy one, that came straight from the freezer I think and was the so dry it would of made good bread crumbs .not worth £7.45 for the tiny bowl of soup 😡
